Raptors C Greg Stiemsma makes his season debut vs. Thunder

(11/4/2014) Raptors center Greg Stiemsma (ankle) made his season debut in Tuesday's victory over Oklahoma City. Stiemsma made his first appearance of the season in the second quarter and logged only 13 minutes off the bench. He converted all two of his field goal attempts and finished with four points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal in a 100-88 victory.

(11/4/2014) Updating a previous item: The Raptors have officially ruled rookie center Lucas Nogueira and power forward Amir Johnson as inactive for Tuesday's game against the Thunder, per the team's official website. Nogueira has yet to play a game this season because of a groin injury, while has missed the last two games after sustaining an ankle injury Saturday against Orlando. Greg Stiemsma (ankle) is active, but his role off the bench remains uncertain.

(1/28/2014) One game after failing to earn even a single minute, Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma nearly recorded a double-double Tuesday in a 100-89 win over the Cavaliers.

Stiemsma played 31 minutes in the game, with starting center Alexis Ajinca struggling. He scored nine points on 4 of 5 shooting, and added a season-high 11 rebounds and two blocks to his line.

Stiemsma is averaging a career-low 2.8 points per game, though he has made up for that somewhat with 3.9 rebounds per game, the best mark of his career through 22 games.

(1/18/2014) With Jason Smith sidelined by a knee injury, Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma picked up his first start of the season Saturday, in a 97-87 loss to the Warriors.

Stiemsma played just 12 minutes in the game, scoring two points on 1 of 2 shooting. He added two rebounds and one block in the game.

Stiemsma, who has dealt with injury issues of his own, is averaging just 2.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 18 games.

(1/3/2014) Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma scored his first buckets since Nov. 12, as his team defeated the Celtics in Boston, 95-92, Friday night.

Stiemsma scored a season-high 12 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the field. He logged 19 minutes of game action, also adding three rebounds and one block. He has appeared in three consecutive games for the Pelicans.

(12/30/2013) Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma appeared in a game for the first time in nearly two months  Monday against the Trail Blazers, after recovering from a sprained knee. Stiemsma played six minutes off the bench in his return, and did not score while grabbing one rebound in a 110-108 win.

Stiemsma ultimately missed 22 games as a result of the injury, last appearing Nov. 12. He is averaging 1.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in nine appearances.

(12/30/2013) Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma, sidelined since the middle of Novemeber with a sprained left knee, will be available to play Monday against the Trail Blazers, coach Monty Williams told the Times Picayune prior to gametime.

Stiemsma had appeared in eight games prior to the injury, averaging 2.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game. He will likely come off the bench at first.

(11/15/2013) Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 sprain of the MCL in his left knee Friday, after undergoing an MRI. Stiemsma suffered the injury in Tuesday's game, and is expected to miss six to eight weeks while recovering.

(11/13/2013) The Pelicans have ruled power forward Ryan Anderson inactive and center Greg Stiemsma out for Wednesday's contest against the Jazz due to injuries, according to the team's official website.

Anderson is still recovering from foot surgery and has yet to play a game this season, while Stiemsma left Tuesday's contest against the Lakers with a knee injury. Stiemsma is listed as day to day.

The Pelicans will return to action Saturday at home against Philadelphia.

(11/13/2013) Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma was forced out of Tuesday's contest against the Lakers with a knee injury.

Stiemsma sustained the injury in the second quarter and was taken to the locker for further evaluation. Initial X-rays in the locker revealed a sprained left knee, according to FOX Sports. He scored two points and grabbed one rebound in 12 minutes of game action before the injury.

The Pelicans will travel to Utah to play the Jazz on Wednesday. His status remains uncertain for that game.

Stiemsma was held scoreless and saw the floor for less than 15 minutes for the first time this season. His two rebounds also represented a season low.

(10/26/2013) Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma may lose his starting spot to Jason Smith, according to The Times Picayune.

Head coach Monty Williams started Smith ahead of Stiemsma in Friday's preseason finale. Smith also worked with the starters while Stiemsma worked with the backups in Saturday's practice scrimmage. 

Stiemsma appeared in eight preseason games and did not score more than two points in any of the games. He averaged 2.6 rebounds per game over that span. Smith, who had been bothered by a hip injury, appeared in six preseason games and averaged 5.2 points and 3.5 rebounds.

"Preseason is preseason and we'll see how it goes when we get to the real games," Stiemsma said. "Since Jason got back on the floor coming off his rehab, we've been going hard. I think competition brings the best out of guys. So we're going to continue pushing each other during the year and see how it goes."

(10/14/2013) Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma remains the team's starting center for now, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Monday. Coach Monty Williams said that Stiemsma has done nothing to lose the starting role. 

"I think he's a good fit for that group," said Williams. 

Stiemsma played in 76 games last year and averaged 4.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game over more limited minutes.

It was his first career double-double, and he added three blocks in a 117-86 win.
