Report: Mavericks hoping to keep F Al-Farouq Aminu

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/7/2015) Despite the declared intention of small forward Al-Farouq Aminu to test free agency, the Mavericks plan to make a play for him, per NBA.com.

Aminu came on strong in the second half and finished the season averaging 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in about 18 minutes per game. He shot 47.4 percent from the field.

"I had a lot of growth this year," he said. "...I think I was able to show a wide range, even to myself, with my versatility. I even played (center) a little this year, and that was kind of fun. And I steadily worked on my shot and different things like that."

Mavericks' Aminu to decline option, test free agency

(4/29/2015) Al-Farouq Aminu will decline his player option for 2015-16 with the Mavericks and will instead test free agency.

“I think it makes the most sense to me,” he said, per The Dallas Morning News. “You just look for a great fit. This year, I think I found one. Hopefully, I can do the same.”

Aminu averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, and shot 41.2 percent from the field this season.

Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson is hoping to bring Aminu back to Dallas next season.

“We were lucky Al chose us,” Nelson said. “With an eye on the history that we’ve had here with Rick and our development program, he certainly should opt out, and he will, as noted. We hope to be in a position to reacquire his services.”

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle: 'I did not bench Parsons'

(3/19/2015) Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle denied benching forward Chandler Parsons late in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's win, explaining he wanted to go with a quicker lineup, according to ESPN Dallas.

With under six minutes remaining in a tight game, Magic forward Maurice Harkless beat Parsons for a baseline dunk. Carlisle then put forward Al-Farouq Aminu into the game and Parsons sat for virtually the final 5:26.

"I just wanted a quicker guy in there," Carlisle said. "With Aminu, you get some more options. Parsons didn't have a great night, but it happens. You're not going to get 30 points every night and sometimes your teammates got to pick you up. We had other guys step up."

"A little surprised [by Carlisle's decision], but not really," Parsons said. "We have a lot of players that can do different things. Any given night it can be someone different. The best thing is we won the game."

Parsons entered the game red hot, averaging 23.7 points over his previous three contests.
