Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert emerge as elite Fantasy plays

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/13/2015) At the Fantasy Basketball Today blog, I wrote about the development of Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors since the team decided to build around them at the trade deadline:

"In 11 games since the All-Star break, both Favors and Gobert have looked like elite Fantasy options while anchoring the league's stingiest defense. Gobert rates out as the No. 2 center in Rotisserie leagues over the last three weeks thanks to his gaudy rebounding and defensive stats, and Favors comes in at No. 4, ahead of names like Andre Drummond and Marc Gasol. Could the Jazz have two early-round Fantasy picks in their frontcourt next season?

Favors is the more known quantity of the two, and his development has followed a relatively smooth progression. He has increased his scoring in each season in the NBA, while also seeing his True Shooting percentage, usage and per-minute scoring numbers all increase on a nearly yearly basis.

....

Since the Jazz decided to move Kanter at the deadline, Gobert has been playing like a first-round Fantasy pick. He is averaging 10.5 points, 14.1 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 3.1 blocks per game, numbers that are basically unheard of in the modern NBA. No player has averaged 10-plus points, 14-plus rebounds, one-plus steals and three-plus blocks per game since 1989-90, and the four players who did so for an entire season are all in the Hall-of-Fame: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bob McAdoo, Hakeem Olajuwon and Bill Walton. Gobert probably isn't a hall-of-famer in the making, but he's hanging out in some rarified air right now."

Both players look like must-start Fantasy options for the rest of the season, and might have top-three round value in keeper leagues at the pace they are on.

Jazz forward Gordon Hayward questionable for Thursday

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(3/12/2015) Forward Gordon Hayward, who missed his first game of the season Tuesday with a sore back, remains questionable for the Jazz's contest Thursday against the Rockets, per The Salt Lake Tribune.

Hayward is averaging 19.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Jazz, who received big nights from Derrick Favors and Rodney Hood in beating the Knicks on Tuesday.

"I think a lot of our group," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "It's not to diminish Gordon at all, but then Gordon would be the first one to say we've got enough guys in that locker room that can play well."

Hayward: Jazz PF Favors has 'been excellent for us'

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/11/2015) Jazz shooting guard Gordon Hayward praised power forward Derrick Favors, who has averaged 17.7 points and 8.8 rebounds since the All-Star break, Wednesday, the Deseret News reports.

"He's been excellent for us," Hayward said. "Especially since he's been able to move to the four (power forward position), he's been great defensively, provides another shot-blocker at the rim, a rim protector. And then the way he's been (playing) in the fourth quarter, making shots, hitting that mid-range jump shot has really opened up the floor for all of us. When he's hitting that shot, we're really tough to guard because they have to respect that shot and it opens up the 3s, it opens up the drives, and he's been playing really well for us — really well."

The Jazz have also stepped things up defensively, but the play of Favors has been a key factor in winning seven of their last nine games.

"I think I've took on more of a scoring role since the All-Star break," Favors said. "Obviously we traded Enes and teams are scouting us a little differently. So I just took it upon myself to just be another offensive threat out there on the court. Basically I just want to continue to get better on the offensive end and continue to improve my game and my range."

Favors has averaged 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds in 59 games.
