Jazz match Hornets' offer sheet for Gordon Hayward

(7/12/2014) The Jazz officially matched the offer sheet Charlotte signed forward Gordon Hayward to Saturday, according to Yahoo.com.

Hayward, a restricted free agent, signed a four-year deal worth $63 million with the Hornets, but the Jazz exercised their right to match the deal. He is coming off a career-best season, and returns to the site of his first four NBA seasons.

Hayward averaged 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game with the Jazz last season, while started all 77 of the games he appeared in.  


Report: Gordon Hayward to sign max deal with Hornets

(7/9/2014) The Hornets have agreed to a max contract for restricted free-agent Gordon Hayward, according to numerous media reports Tuesday.

The deal is expected to pay Hayward $63 million over four years, though it cannot be finalized until free agency officially begins Thursday. Hayward's former team, the Jazz, will have three days to match the deal once he signs it, and the team has given every indication they will do so, according to USA Today.

Hayward is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 16.2 points, 5.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 77 games.

(7/2/2014) Restricted free agent Gordon Hayward was in Cleveland on Wednesday meeting with the Cavaliers to discuss a possible offer, according to Yahoo Sports.

Because the Jazz said it will match 'any offer' for Hayward, it could take a max contract for Cleveland to sign him, and ESPN reports that they could be gearing up to offer him one. The plan would be to use Hayward at small forward while sliding No. 1 overall pick to the two guard spot. Hayward had a poor shooting year with Utah while handling the majority of play-making duties.

(7/1/2014) The Celtics reportedly have a strong interest in signing forward Gordon Hayward in restricted free agency, but CSN New England reports that it's highly unlikely Boston or any team pries him away from Utah.

A source said the Jazz still plan to match "any offer" for Hayward. This makes sense considering they spent their lottery pick on a ball handler to take some of the play-making pressure off of Hayward, who shot a career-worst 41 percent from the field and 30 percent from the three-point line.

(6/26/2014) The Jazz officially made forward Gordon Hayward a restricted free agent Wednesday, as they extended the qualifying offer to him.

Hayward becomes a free agent for the first time after four NBA seasons, but the Jazz have matching rights for any contract he might sign come July. He is coming off his best NBA season, averaging 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists while starting each of his 77 games for the first time in his career.

(3/25/2014) Jazz guard Gordon Hayward went off on Monday, scoring a game-high 32 points in a 114-94 loss to the Pistons. It was his highest total since he scored 37 against Oklahoma City on Jan. 7.

Hayward shot 10 of 19 from the floor, including 3 of 6 from downtown, and 9 of 10 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with six assists, two rebounds, one block and one steal while logging 40 minutes of game action. He is averaging 18.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.8 rebounds over his last five games.

(3/19/2014) Jazz forward Gordon Hayward struggled wit his shot a bit, but was nonetheless able to fill up the box score well Wednesday against the Grizzlies.

Hayward finished the game with 16 points on 7 of 16 shooting, while missing all three of his three-point attempts and going just 2 for 5 at the free-throw line. He did fill up the box score well otherwise, however, recording five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals, while turning the ball over three times in the 96-86 loss.

Hayward has struggled at times this season to handle the heavy offensive load he has been asked to carry. Still, he is averaging 15.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game on the season. 


Gordon Hayward just misses triple-double Wednesday

(2/26/2014) Jazz guard Gordon Hayward fell just shy of a triple-double Wednesday, scoring 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out nine assists in his team's 109-86 win over the Suns.

The double-double was the first since Jan. 7 for Hayward, who has missed triple-doubles this season by one assist, one rebound and one point and rebound on three separate occasions. He has averaged 15.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists over 52 games played.

(2/23/2014) Jazz forward Gordon Hayward struggled through yet another subpar performance Saturday, finishing with just five points in a 121-104 loss to the Timberwolves.

Hayward shot just 2 of 10 from the field and 1 of 2 from the free-throw line, topping his awful shooting by missing both of his three-point attempts. He made little impact in the game otherwise, finishing without a rebound or assist, though he did add two blocks and two steals in 24 minutes.

Hayward has been ice cold through the month of February, averaging just 11.4 points per game on just 29.7 percent shooting. 


Report: Celtics express interest in Gordon Hayward

(2/19/2014) The Celtics have expressed interest in trading for Jazz forward Gordon Hayward, CSNNE.com reports.

Hayward was a key player for Celtics head coach Brad Stevens when both were at Butler, and he's scheduled to be a restricted free agent this offseason. However, the Jazz aren't all that interested in any of Boston's players, while the Celtics have remained reluctant to part with any first-round picks.

Hayward has averaged 16.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists over 47 games played while shooting 40.2 percent from the field.

Hayward made 11 of his 12 free throws to salvage his scoring performance in the win while tallying seven rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and two steals in 38 minutes Wednesday. It's his third straight game recording at least seven rebounds and seven assists. Hayward has averaged 16.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists over 47 games played.

He finished the game with nine points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, with only two of them coming from the offensive end of the glass.
