Lakers announce lineup; Ronnie Price upgraded to probable

(10/28/2014) The Lakers announced their starting lineup for Tuesday's season opener against the Rockets. It will be Jeremy Lin, Kobe Bryant, Wesley Johnson, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill. The team also announced Ronnie Price (knee) has been upgraded to probable.

Byron Scott getting close to finalizing starting five

(9/10/2014) Lakers coach Byron Scott told the Los Angeles Daily News Wednesday he has penciled in four of the five spots for the team's starting lineup, with only the small forward spot left the fill.

Scott plans to start Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill together this season, with Wesley Johnson or Nick Young being considered for the small forward spot. That means rookie Julius Randle and newly acquired guard Jeremy Lin will come off the bench, and he is leaning toward bring Nick Young off the bench as well.


Wesley Johnson re-signs with Lakers for one year

(7/29/2014) The Lakers announced the re-signing of forward Wesley Johnson Monday, though terms of the deal have not yet been announced.

Johnson appeared in 79 games for the injury-bitten Lakers last season, and put together the most productive season of his career as a result. He averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

(3/24/2014) Lakers forward Wesley Johnson (illness) practiced Saturday and returned to action on Sunday against the Magic, scoring just seven points in a 103-94 win.

Johnson shot 2 of 7 from the floor, including 1 of 3 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with two rebounds, two assists and one block while logging 21 minutes of game action. He is averaging 8.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists over his last five games.

(3/22/2014)  Lakers forward Wesley Johnson missed Friday's game due to an illness, but that should be all the time he misses. The team's official twitter account reports he was able to practice Saturday, and is expected to be back in the starting lineup Sunday against the Magic.

Johnson is averaging 8.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in eight games during the month of March.

Johnsonis averaging 9.2 points and 4.1 rebounds over 66 games this season. His next chance to play will come Sunday against the Magic.

(2/25/2014) Lakers forward Wesley Johnson managed to remain productive despite getting into quick foul trouble Tuesday, in a 118-98 loss to the Pacers.

Johnson was limited to 25 minutes of action due to his five fouls, but put up solid numbers when he played. He scored 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting and added five rebounds, one steal and one block in the loss.

It isn't saying much, but Johnson is enjoying the best season of his career under Mike D'Antoni in Los Angeles. The former No. 4 overall pick is averaging a career-high 9.2 points per game. 


Lakers shake up starting five

(2/11/2014) Flexibility is key when dealing with injuries, so the Lakers have decided to go with the flow as far as their limited rotation is concerned. Los Angeles will send out Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Wesley Johnson, Shawne Williams and Chris Kaman against the Jazz Tuesday night, according to the team website. 

Kaman earned the starting spot by scoring 27 points against Chicago, and Nash confirmed that he'll play despite injuring his knee last time out.

(2/4/2014) Lakers forward Wesley Johnson came one rebound shy of a double-double Tuesday, scoring 15 points on 7 of 16 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds in his team's 109-99 loss to the Timberwolves.

Johnson played 38 minutes after Jodie Meeks was injured early on, and he delivered two blocks and one assist in addition to his near double-double. He has averaged 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds over 47 games played.

Johnson missed all four of his field goal attempts, three of them which came from downtown. He made 1 of his 2 free throw attempts and finished with one point and one rebound while logging 14 minutes of game action in a 102-100 overtime loss.

Johnson has combined for only nine points in his past two games. He has averaged 11.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists over his last five games.

Johnson went 3 of 7 shooting from the field, including 3 of 5 from downtown, and 2 of 4 from the free throw line. He finished the game with 11 points and 11 assists in a 107-104 victory. He also chipped in with three assists, two blocks and one steal while logging 38 minutes of game action.

Johnson has averaged 14.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists over his last five games played.

(1/9/2014) Lakers forward Wesley Johnson is getting plenty of playing time recently as a result of injuries, as he scored in double figures for the third time in four games Wednesday against the Rockets.

Johnson didn't shoot the ball en route to 10 points Wednesday, as he finished 4 of 13 from the field. He did make a pair of 3-pointers on five attempts, while adding four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 113-99 loss.

Johnson has appeared in each of the team's last four games, averaging 28.5 minutes per game. He is putting up 10.0 points on 45.9 percent shooting in that span, with 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

Johnson missed just one game with the illness and came back with a strong performance to lead the bench in scoring. He also tallied two steals, one rebound, one assist and one block in 21 minutes of action. Johnson has averaged 7.8 points and 3.4 rebounds over 32 games played.

Johnson sat out Tuesday's game because of a case of gastroenteritis. In 31 games, the 26-year-old has averaged 7.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 26.4 minutes.

(12/31/2013) Lakers forward Wesley Johnson missed morning shootaround and was ruled out for Tuesday's contest against the Bucks due to a case of gastroenteritis, the team announced. Nick Young will start in his place.

Johnson will miss his first game of the season on Tuesday. In 31 games, the 26-year-old has averaged 7.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 26.4 minutes. He'll try to get back on the court Friday at home against the Jazz.

Johnson matched a career-high with his three-point barrage, as he connected on 6 of 7 from long range. He shot 9 of 11 from the field overall and 3 of 4 at the free-throw line to finish with a season-high 27 points, while adding six rebound, two assists and three blocks.

Johnson has been inconsistent this season, but is averaging 8.5 points per game, his highest total since his rookie season. He is shooting 43.0 percent from the field and 44.6. percent on three-point attempts, while adding 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

Johnson went 6 of 15 shooting from the field, including 3 of 8 from downtown, and 1 of 2 from the free throw line. He finished the game with a season-high 16 points and four rebounds. He also chipped in with two blocks and a steal while logging 28 minutes of game action in a 99-98 victory.

Johnson has averaged 11.0 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 41.2 percent from the field through his first five games played.

(10/23/2013) Lakers forward Wesley Johnson got a tryout at power forward Tuesday against the Jazz, as coach Mike D'Antoni brought him in early in the first quarter to play with the starters. Johnson thrived in the role, scoring 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting, while providing some floor spacing with his two 3-pointers in 22 minutes of action.

Johnson has struggled on the wings since being a lottery pick for the Timberwolves in 2010. D'Antoni has a history of squeezing production out of stretch power forwards, so Johnson could be a fit in this offense. However, Johnson probably only played power forward extensively due to Chris Kaman's absence, so he may not have a set role when the season begins. 


Johnson heads into free agency

(4/24/2013) Suns guard Wesley Johnson started to come into his own down the stretch this season, averaging 13.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 21 games as a starter. The Suns would like to bring Johnson back after that nice run, but since the team did not pick up his 2013-14 option, he is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The team's television analyst Tim Kempton told a local radio station that the is unlikely offer Johnson a big contract this summer. Detailing what he thinks the team will tell Johnson during negotiations, Kempton said, ”'Hey Wes, you had a great second half of the season, we'd love to have you back as a free agent, we can't offer you the farm, you're here, you understand the situation; we need to add some more pieces so we can't go overboard with you.'"
