Mavs waive Jones

News: The Mavericks waived guard Dominique Jones on Saturday.
Analysis: Jones averaged four points with 2.9 assists in 29 games this season and has never been much of a Fantasy option. Continue to ignore him in all formats.

Jones finally gets some run

News: Dallas guard Dominique Jones had a big game on Monday in a loss at Oklahoma City. Limited to 14 minutes, which is 14 more than he saw in the team's last game, Jones scored 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting. He went 5 of 7 from the line and added two rebounds, two assists and a block in the losing effort.
Analysis: Jones had played just one minute in the team's previous four games and clearly wasn't in the team's rotation. He may have entered it after Monday's performance, but until we see more games like that, he'll have just low-end value in all Fantasy leagues.

Jones out of rotation

News: Mavericks guard Dominique Jones sat for the sixth game in a row Thursday against the Kings, as he has fallen completely out of the rotation. Jones has not played double-digit minutes since Dec. 27, a stretch of eight games.
Analysis: Jones actually started a few games earlier in the season, but has been unable to earn a larger role. He was averaging 4.1 points and 3.3 assists per game before falling out of the rotation. At this point, he has no Fantasy value.

Jones ties career high

News: Dallas guard Dominique Jones tied his career high with 13 points scored on Friday at Memphis. Jones added seven assists and went 4 for 9 from the field over 32 minutes in the game. Jones also chipped in with three rebounds and one steal for the Mavericks.
Analysis: Jones has averaged 4.4 points per game on the season to go with 1.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He doesn't hit 3-pointers and has very low-end Fantasy value at this time.

Jones not seeing much PT

News: Mavericks guard Dominique Jones returned to action Wednesday against the Celtics after missing the previous contest due to an illness. He played two minutes off the bench and recorded one rebound in the 117-115 overtime loss.
Analysis: Jones has seen a combined 14 minutes in the last three games he has played and does not have a huge role in Dallas at this point. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats.

Jones dealing with flu

News: Dallas guard Dominique Jones missed Monday's game against Sacramento due to feeling under the weather. Jones is considered day to day for the Mavericks.
Analysis: Jones is averaging just 11.5 minutes per game this season and plays a small role for the team off the bench. He has little Fantasy value, healthy or not.

Jones starts over Collison

News: Dallas tweaked the team's starting lineup for Tuesday's game at Philadelphia. In a surprising move, coach Rick Carlisle started Dominique Jones at point guard over Darren Collison. Jones had played just 11 minutes in his previous game against the Lakers and scored just two points with three assists. Jones saw 18 minutes Tuesday and scored two points on 0 for 5 shooting with two free throws.
Analysis: Jones has seen just over 10 minutes per game this season so this move to the starting lineup is certainly unexpected. We believe Collison will take back the starting gig possibly as soon as the team's next game. Jones won't gain Fantasy value outside the deepest of leagues until he actually sees over 20 minutes per game.

Mavs want consistency from Jones

News: Fresh off his finest outing of the season when he netted 10 points in a win over the Cavaliers last Saturday, the Mavericks are hoping guard Dominique Jones can continue that production. Jones is currently serving as a backup to point guard Darren Collison, but has topped double-digits in points only once. "He's been capable of having impact nights, but it's all about sustaining," coach Rick Carlisle told The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "He can do a lot of things that are very good things."
Analysis: Prior to his strong outing against Cleveland, Jones had racked up three straight DNPs as the Mavericks used Roddy Beaubois as the primary backup to Collison. But Carlisle appears dedicated to proving him playing time and that started began with a season-high 18 minutes last Saturday. "We need him to step out there and play hard and play with force and rebound and do the things that he did [against Cleveland]," Carlisle said. "His energy was really good." For now, Jones is worth tracking in deeper Fantasy formats, but he's not worth adding.

Jones playing for roster spot

News: Dallas will not exercise Dominique Jones' contract option for next year, reports the Dallas Morning News Friday. Jones will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
Analysis: The 24-year-old Jones still has time to develop but may not be with Dallas next year anyway. He is not on Fantasy radars right now regardless and should be ignored in most formats.

Jones steps up for Dallas

News: Mavericks guard Dominique Jones got a chance to shine on Friday night with several of Dallas' guards missing time for various reasons. Jones came off the bench for 21 minutes and scored 12 points on a 5-for-9 shooting display. He added two rebounds and a steal for the Mavericks, as they beat the 76ers 82-75.
Analysis: Coach Rick Carlisle said Jones had to be ready and step up, and that is what the second-year guard did. "It's an opportunity for him. His versatility is one of the things we like about him," Carlisle said. Despite Jones playing well on Friday, Fantasy owners shouldn't get too excited as Roddy Beaubois and Jason Terry should be returning to the team shortly. If Jones is able to carve out more playing time, however, he could be worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy formats. For now, scout him and leave him on waivers.

Jones earns an opportunity

News: With several of Dallas' guards missing time for various reasons, Mavericks second-year guard Dominique Jones will earn additional playing time, coach Rick Carlisle said. With Jason Terry and Roddy Beaubois both tending to personal issues and Delonte West sidelined by an injury, Jones becomes the only guard off the bench. "He's going to have to be ready and he's going to play minutes," Carlisle told the Dallas Morning News.
Analysis: Jones logged a career-high 31 minutes during Wednesday's game against Denver and finished with four points, four rebounds and six assists. He entered the game with just nine assists total this season. "He's going to have to play some point, which is something he can do," Carlisle said. "It's an opportunity for him. His versatility is one of the things we like about him." Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach with Jones to determine how much playing time he receives before considering him a worthwhile option in most formats.

Jones not seeing much run

News: Mavericks G Dominique Jones was not much of a factor during Monday night's contest against the Suns. Jones finished with just four points in the 122-99 victory, despite missing his lone shot attempt from the field. He scored all his points at the charity stripe and also chipped in with two assists and a block, while logging five minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Jones was recalled from the D-League last week, but hasn't seen much run since then. He has only appeared in three games for Dallas and is averaging just six minutes over that stretch. Leave the 23-year-old on the waiver wire in the majority of formats moving forward.

Mavericks bring back Jones

News: Dallas recalled G Dominique Jones from the NBA Development League on Monday. Jones, who was sent to the Texas Legends on Jan. 15, is expected to join the team against Phoenix on Monday night.
Analysis: Jones appeared in nine games with the Mavericks earlier this season and averaged just 1.8 points a night. He posted 13.3 points per game in three outings with Frisco, but should not be considered a worthwhile Fantasy option for now.

Jones eyes return in May

News: Dallas rookie guard Dominique Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, that he hopes to return to action in May, just in time for the playoffs. Jones had a screw inserted into his right foot to correct a stress fracture at the beginning of the month. “The MRI made it easy to see. A month ago, it started aching. I didn’t know what it was. I just thought it was because I was working out a lot and running a lot. But it was a little crack in my bone," Jones said. "I really wasn’t playing any this year anyway so the best thing was to get the screw in there now and make sure it’s taken care of. I should be out six more weeks, eight more weeks.’’
Analysis: Jones likened his surgery to that of Milwaukee's Brandon Jennings, who missed some time at the beginning of the season. Jones has spent most of the year with the Texas Legends of the D-League. In 18 games for the Mavericks, Jones averaged 2.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists while playing about 7 1/2 minutes per game. Those numbers don't warrant much Fantasy attention for the rookie. He can be ignored in all formats at this time.

Jones has foot surgery

News: Mavericks rookie guard Dominique Jones underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his right foot. The procedure was done on Friday , and the team said there is no timetable for his return. In 18 games for the Mavericks, Jones averaged 2.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists while playing about 7 1/2 minutes per game.
Analysis: Jones had successful foot surgery on Friday, which could end up ending his season. The 22-year-old hasn't seen much playing time in Dallas and can be ignored in all Fantasy leagues, healthy or not.

Jones has stress fracture

News: Dallas guard Dominique Jones, a rookie, suffered a stress fracture in his right foot and is expected to see Dr. T.O. Souryal to determine the course of action for recovery, reports the team's official site Wednesday.
Analysis: Jones has averaged just 2.3 points in 18 appearances for the Mavs this season. There is not much playing time available to him -- healthy or not -- and he is not a player to own in Fantasy leagues as a result.

Jones to miss 'significant time'

News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Mavericks rookie Dominique Jones suffered a foot injury that will sideline him for a significant period of time, citing two sources. The injury occurred recently and Jones stayed behind as the team left for Sacramento on Tuesday. It's not known what the injury is, however.
Analysis: Jones has averaged just 2.3 points in 18 appearances for the Mavs this season. There is not much playing time available to him -- healthy or not -- and he is not a player to own in Fantasy leagues as a result.

Jones has career night for Mavs

News: Dallas G Dominique Jones saw some decent minutes in mopup time on Friday night against San Antonio and posted some impressive numbers. The rookie scored a career-high 13 points and dished out three assists in the 101-89 loss. He went 6 of 11 from the field and converted 1 of 2 free throws while playing 14 minutes off the bench. Jones also had two rebounds and two steals in the defeat. He is averaging 3.8 points with 1.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists over his last five contests.
Analysis: Jones was recalled from the D-League earlier this month but has not see much playing time as one of the last players on the Mavericks bench. He made the most of his opportunity in Friday night's blowout, but Fantasy owners should not expect this type of production often from the 22-year-old. He does not stand to see much playing time unless there is a serious injury to someone ahead of him so continue to leave the former USF Bull on waivers in all but the deepest of Fantasy leagues.

Mavs bring back Jones

News: Dallas guard Dominique Jones was recalled from the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League on Sunday. He scored nine points in his 21 minutes of action. He shot 2 for 10 from the field, but nailed all five of his foul shots. The rookie added five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal for the Mavericks, who will be without Caron Butler's services for a while. Dallas would beat Cleveland, 104-95.
Analysis: Jones averaged about 18 points, five rebounds and five assists with the Legends. The rookie out of the University of South Florida has played in just 10 games this year, so his Fantasy value is very slim. He may continue getting court time with Butler's injury, but Fantasy owners should not bank on Jones producing big numbers in the upcoming weeks. Continue to leave him on the waiver wire.

Jones headed to NBDL

News: After Monday's game against the Rockets, Dallas announced that rookie G Dominique Jones will join their D-League team in nearby Frisco for as many as three games. The expansion Texas Legends have their first home game on Tuesday night, and Jones hadn't played for the Mavs in five straight games before getting in for seven minutes and 55 seconds of the fourth quarter on Monday night.
Analysis: The rookie out of the University of South Florida went 0 for 2 on Monday and scored two points on two free throws. He also turned the ball over three times, lending to the fact that he needs some seasoning in the NBDL. He has no Fantasy value at this time.

Jones still turning ball over

News: Mavericks rookie guard Dominique Jones is still adjusting to the NBA. He committed four turnovers on Wednesday night, but had a better outing scoring. He shot 5 for 9 from the field and 5 for 6 from the foul line, finishing with 15 points. He also handed out seven assists and grabbed two rebounds.
Analysis: Jones finds himself a ways down the depth chart at the guard position, so he'll have to find his niche with the team. Most rookies don't contribute right away or even in their first year, so Jones' Fantasy value is very low. He should not be a target for owners on Draft Day.

Jones has trouble hanging onto ball

News: Dallas rookie guard Dominique Jones played almost 25 minutes in Saturday's preseason loss to Phoenix, but managed just five points. He shot 2 for 7 from the field, dished out two assists, grabbed one rebound, but committed four turnovers.
Analysis: Jones was originally drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 25th overall pick in this year's draft, but Dallas acquired his rights on Draft Day. Jones had a good three-year career at South Florida, but will have to find his niche with the Mavericks. He'll provide them some youth off the bench, but like most rookies, probably won't do enough to be a Fantasy contributor this year.

Jones signs rookie contract

News: The Mavericks signed rookie Dominique Jones. Because of team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 6-foot-4 guard was originally drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 25th overall pick in this year's draft. Dallas, though, acquired his rights from Memphis in a draft day trade.
Analysis: In three years at South Florida, Jones ranked fifth in career scoring (1,797 points), first in free throws attempted (615), and fifth in both field goals made (592) and attempted (1,339). He'll have to earn his time in Dallas, however, and doesn't figure to be a huge part of the team's rotation as long as Jason Kidd and Jason Terry are around.
