Raptors' Patrick Patterson sits out exhibition opener

(10/6/2014) Raptors forward Patrick Patterson sat out the team's exhibition opener because of a sore hand. The injury is not expected to be serious and should not impact his status for the regular season.

Patterson signed a three-year contract in the offseason with Toronto after averaging 9.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 48 appearances in 2013-14.

(7/4/2014) The Raptors brought back another of their free agents, as forward Patrick Patterson has agreed to a three-year deal worth $18 million Friday, according to ESPN.com.

The Raptors acquired Patterson in a December trade from the Kings, and he shot 41 percent from three-point range while averaging 9.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 48 appearances.

Patterson has been sidelined since March 7 with the injury. He is averaging 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in 56 appearances this season. Head coach Dwane Casey remains hopeful Patterson will be able to play Monday night in Miami.

Though he will not play Friday against the Celtics, the National Post reports Patterson could play in either half of the team's upcoming back-to-back set Sunday and Monday.

Patterson has been out since early March due to an elbow sprain, but should be back for the final few weeks of the season. He is averaging 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in 56 appearances this season.

(3/25/2014) Raptors forward Patrick Patterson has not played in more than two weeks due to an elbow injury, but he continues to make consistent progress toward a return. The team announced Tuesday Patterson has been cleared to participate in contact scrimmages, following another clean MRI.

It is not yet known when Patterson will be cleared to return to game action. He was averaged 9.7 points in 39 games with the Raptors prior to the injury.

He has been cleared to return to basketball activities on a limited basis over the next week while wearing a brace, and will be re-evaluated to determine his expected return date after.

Patterson has missed four games so far as a result of the injury, and is right on track from his initial timetable. He was expected to be re-evaluated after resting for a week, and his last appearance in a game came March 7.

(2/25/2014) Raptors forward Patrick Patterson continues to struggle with his shot, as he connected on just 1 of 5 from the field for the second straight game Tuesday against the Cavaliers.

Patterson played 25 minutes off the bench, but failed to make much of an impact as a scorer. He finished with three points on one 3-pointer made, though he did well in other areas of the game to make up for that a bit. He added eight rebounds, four assists and one block while turning the ball over three times in a 99-93 win.

Patterson has been stuck in a slump recently, averaging just 4.5 points per game on 29.2 percent shooting over the last four games. 


Amir Johnson will give it a go Tuesday

(2/9/2014) Raptors forward Patrick Patterson told reporters Sunday his nose feels better, but he'll need to wear a protective mask for at least the next four weeks, according to the Toronto Sun.

Patterson suffered a broken nose on Jan. 25, and has played six games with a mask, averaging 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 53.7 percent from the field through his first five games with a mask. In 46 appearances, he has averaged 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

DeRozan is returning from a two-game absence caused by ankle issues. Johnson suffered a minor ankle injury Wednesday but will not miss any time. Patterson missed Wednesday's game while dealing with a broken nose.

DeRozan has missed two games due to a foot/ankle injury. Patterson missed the team's previous game while having work on his broken nose. Johnson suffered a minor ankle injury while putting up a double-double Wednesday. With all three active early Friday, it seems likely all will be avalable come game time.

Patterson stole an inbound pass and knocked down a 12-foot jumper with six seconds remaining to give Toronto the edge. He scored 15 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the field, including 1 of 3 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He did all of his damage in 21 minutes of game action, also adding three rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Patterson has scored in double figures in just two of his last three games played. He has averaged 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists over his last five games played.

Patterson took an elbow to the face from Blake Griffin in the third quarter, and was replaced by Chuck Hayes. He went to the locker room and was unable to return for the remainder of the game.

Head coach Dwayne Casey told reporters that he believes Patterson's nose is broken, and could play with protective mask, the National Post reports.

(1/11/2014) Raptors forward Patrick Patterson scored 14 points on 5 of 12 shooting and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds in his team's 98-80 win over the Nets Saturday.

It was Patterson's first double-double since being acquired by Toronto in early December. He also matched a season-high with three steals while recording one assist and one block in 28 minutes off the bench Saturday. Patterson has averaged 7.9 points and 5.3 rebounds over 32 games played.
