Evan Turner to sign mid-level exception deal with Boston

(7/21/2014) Former Pacers and Sixers guard Evan Turner is expected to sign a mid-level exception deal with the Celtics, according to the Boston Herald on Monday. Turner was acquired by the Pacers during the trade deadline last season and finished with averages of 7.1 points, 3.2 rebounds off the bench. He also shot 41.1 percent from the field over 27 games (two starts).

(5/21/2014) Though he overcame an illness and was active, Pacers guard Evan Turner did not see the floor in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Heat Tuesday.

Turner missed the team's previous game due to the injury, but made it through practice before being cleared. He received a DNP Coach's Decision, and might have trouble finding playing time for the rest of the playoffs.

The Pacers' deadline-day acquisition this season is averaging just 3.5 points and 1.7 assists in 11 postseason appearances.

(5/19/2014) Pacers guard Evan Turner was unable to play Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Miami on Sunday because of a strep throat. Head coach Frank Vogel told reporters that Turner will be available to play Game 2 on Tuesday, ESPN 1070 AM in Indiana reports.

(3/15/2014) Pacers guard Evan Turner played a bigger than usual role in the team's 112-104 overtime win over the Pistons Saturday, as he snapped a four-game single-digit scoring streak.

Turner played 30 minutes in the overtime win, and put together one of his best games as a member of the Pacers. He scored 20 points on 10 of 15 shooting, just his second 20-point game in 11 chances since being traded. He added five rebounds and a pair of assists  while turning the ball over twice as well.

Turner's production has taken a hit since the trade that sent him to a reserve role in Indianapolis. He is averaging 9.4 points per game in 11 appearances for the Pacers.

(3/4/2014) Pacers guard Evan Turner put together his worst game of the season Tuesday, as he was held scoreless in a 98-96 loss to the Warriors.

Turner played 18 minutes off the bench, and simply couldn't find his shot. He missed all five of his field-goal attempts, and didn't do much else to make up for his struggles, finishing with three rebounds and an assist in the loss.

Turner has appeared in five games since being acquired at the trade deadline, and has scored in double figures just twice. He is averaging 9.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

(2/25/2014) Pacers forward Evan Turner scored 13 points on 6 of 12 shooting while playig 26 minutes in his Indiana debut as the Pacers beat the Lakers Tuesday, 119-98.

Turner saw perhaps a little more playing time than expected in the debut but shot well while kicking in six rebounds, two assists and one steal. He has averaged 17.3 points and 6.0 rebounds over 55 games played.

Turner will likely play 20 to 25 minutes per game as he fills the role vacated by the team's trade that sent Danny Granger to Philadelphia. Turner averaged 17.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists with the Sixers while playing nearly 35 minutes per game.

(2/23/2014) Pacers head coach Frank Vogel told reporters Sunday he plans to play forward Evan Turner in "the same minutes as Danny Granger," according to the team's social media account.

Granger averaged 22.5 minutes per game with the Pacers, while Turner averaged 17.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 34.9 minutes per game with the 76ers this season, which could mean he'll be playing a much more limited role with his new team.

Both players are expected to be in Indiana on Sunday after being traded just before Thursday's deadline. They should be good to go by the time the Pacers play the Lakers at home Tuesday.

(2/21/2014) Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird confirmed that newly acquired forwards Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen will come off the bench for their new team, ESPN.com reports.

"We felt we needed to make this trade to strengthen the core unit and our bench,'' Bird said in a statement. "In Evan and Lavoy, we think we got two really good players that can help us and we look forward to what they can bring.''

Turner averaged 17.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists through 54 games -- all starts -- for Philadelphia, playing 34.9 minutes per game with his former team.

(2/20/2014) Yahoo! Sports reports the Pacers traded forward Danny Granger to the 76ers for forwards Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen just before Thursday's trade deadline.

Granger is off to a slow start in his first season back from knee surgery, averaging only 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists through 29 games. There is also a possibility that his contract is bought out before he even suits up for Philadelphia.

According to a previous report from CBSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger, the 76ers lowered their asking price for Turner on Thursday. He averaged 17.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists through 54 games for Philadelphia this season. Allen averaged only 5.2 points and 5.4 rebounds with the Sixers this season.

The 76ers have expressed interest in dealing Turner, as they have no plans to extend him a qualifying offer this offseason. Turner would become an unrestricted free agent if no qualifying offer is made, so it makes sense for a team interested in having him for more than just a few months to make a deal before the deadline. Turner is making $6.68 million this season while averaging 17.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 53 games played.

Turner, who had scored just 19 points in his previous two games, put up 21 this time around. He shot 9 of 18 from the field in 34 minutes of action, and added five rebounds, one assist and one steal, while turning the ball over three times in a 105-100 loss.

Turner is putting up the best numbers of his career in his fourth season, though he slid considerable since the first month. He is averaging just 13.0 points and 2.3 assists per game in seven February games.

(2/3/2014) The 76ers have increased their efforts to trade away forward Evan Turner before the June 30 deadline, according to the Sporting News. Turner is not surprised, especially since Philadelphia will not extend his $8.71-million qualifying offer before the deadline.

"I never expected to get a contract extension, especially when we switched GMs, you know?" Turner said. "I always said, Mr. Hinkie is going to do what he wants to do, and he has his own vision and everything like that. So when you trade an All-Star like Jrue, I mean, what occurs next isn't going to surprise me. I was just trying my best to keep focused, keep helping the team win and getting better."

In 47 appearances, Turner has averaged 18.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 35.4 minutes per game this season.

Turner scored his 21 points on 7 of 18 shooting, as he shot 3 of 4 from three-point range. He added 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season, and tossed in four assists and a pair of steals in 39 minutes.

Turner continues to enjoy a career-best season, as he ranks in the top-20 in the league in scoring at 20.4 points per game. He is also adding 3.9 assists and 6.8 rebounds per game through the first 24 contests of the season.
