Celtics' Evan Turner posts first career triple-double Wednesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/25/2015) Celtics shooting guard Evan Turner delivered his first career triple-double Wednesday, scoring 10 points on 5 of 9 shooting while racking up 12 rebounds and 10 assists in his team's 115-94 win over the Knicks Wednesday.

The Celtics found themselves down six points midway through the third quarter but managed to hit their stride, outscoring the Knicks in the second half 67-45.

"We just kept rocking," Turner said after the game, per the Associated Press. "We made a lot of great plays to start that fourth quarter as a team. We got the energy going."

It was just the third time this season Turner delivered double-digit assists and also the third time he racked up double-digit rebounds. He led the team with 34 minutes, and the trio of Turner, Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart all saw at least 30 minutes of action even though Isaiah Thomas also played 27 minutes off the bench.

"We're just throwing darts," coach Brad Stevens said after the game. "Like today - we found a lineup that nobody would ever thought would play together right in an NBA game."

The Celtics will look for a third straight win Friday against the Hornets.

Celtics considering Evan Turner at point guard

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/3/2014) With point guard Rajon Rondo likely to miss at least a few weeks at the start of the season while recovering from a broken hand, the Celtics are going to be looking for a starter in training camp. And coach Brad Stevens may end up settling on a surprising name: Evan Turner.

Turner, the newly signed wing, has spent his entire NBA career playing shooting guard or small forward, but Stevsn told CSNNE.com he likes Turner's ability to play the position, even if he hasn't done so since college.

"Not withstanding Rondo, (Turner is) as good a pick-and-roll player as we have," Stevens said.

Turner noted that he is not focused on just winning the point guard job, as he sees himself playing all three perimeter spots for the Celtics.

"I'm re-learning it for the most part and also just learning the system and different positions here," Turner said. "I'm going to learn three perimeter spots; just being prepared."

Turner averaged a career high in assists two season ago with the 76ers, when he put up 4.3 per game. Last season, he averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in 81 games between the Pacers and Sixers.

Bobcats have interest in Evan Turner

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/17/2014) The Bobcats have legitimate interest in acquiring 76ers forward Evan Turner before the trade deadline, CBSSports.com NBA insider Ken Berger reports.

The 76ers have expressed interest in dealing Turner, as they have no plans to extend him a qualifying offer this offseason. Turner would become an unrestricted free agent if no qualifying offer is made, so it makes sense for a team interested in having him for more than just a few months to make a deal before the deadline. Turner is making $6.68 million this season while averaging 17.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 53 games played.

Sixers increasing efforts to trade Evan Turner

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2/3/2014) The 76ers have increased their efforts to trade away forward Evan Turner before the June 30 deadline, according to the Sporting News. Turner is not surprised, especially since Philadelphia will not extend his $8.71-million qualifying offer before the deadline.

"I never expected to get a contract extension, especially when we switched GMs, you know?" Turner said. "I always said, Mr. Hinkie is going to do what he wants to do, and he has his own vision and everything like that. So when you trade an All-Star like Jrue, I mean, what occurs next isn't going to surprise me. I was just trying my best to keep focused, keep helping the team win and getting better."

In 47 appearances, Turner has averaged 18.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 35.4 minutes per game this season.
