Report: Pelicans will not sign Elliot Williams for rest of season

(3/25/2015) After signing two 10-day contracts with the Pelicans, the team has decided not to sign guard Elliot Williams for the remainder of the season, reports The Times-Picayune.

In 13 games, Williams averaged 2.8 points and 0.9 assists.

Williams appeared in three games with the Pelicans, averaging 4.0 points, 1.0 assists and 1.0 rebounds off the bench. New Orleans will have another 10 days to decide whether Williams should be kept for the remainder of the season.

Timberwolves ship Mo Williams to Hornets for Gary Neal, Troy Daniels

(2/10/2015) The Timberwolves have traded guard Mo Williams to the Hornets, in exchange for guard Gary Neal, guard Troy Daniels and a second-round draft pick, Charlotte announced Tuesday. In order to clear roster space, the Hornets released Elliot Williams from his 10-day contract.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Hornets are determined to make a playoff push, and feel that the addition of Williams would give them a chance to make a run while Kemba Walker remains sideline. The move would also keep Lance Stephenson from running the point while Walker is injured.

Outside of point guard depth, Williams gives Charlotte another threat beyond the arc. Williams is averaging 12.3 points and 6.5 assists in 40 games (19 starts) this season for Minnesota. He has knocked down 40.3 percent of his field goal attempts and 34.7 of his shots from downtown.

Meanwhile, Neal has appeared in 43 of Charlotte's 52 games, posting averages of 9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 35.9 percent from the field over that span. Daniels is averaging 2.8 points and 0.5 assists in 35 games between Minnesota and Houston. Daniels is familiar with the organization. He spent time in Charlotte's training camp in 2013.

(2/4/2015) The Hornets have signed guard Elliot Williams to a 10-day contract and waived guard Jannero Pargo, general manager Rich Cho announced, via the team's official website.

Pargo has not played since Dec. 22 because of a back issue. He made nine appearances this season, averaging 4.6 points in 8.1 minutes.

Williams played 19 games for the San Cruz Warriors of the D-League this season, averaging 20.1 points, 7.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 36.3 minutes. He signed a pair of 10-day contracts with the Jazz earlier in January before Utah chose not to keep him for the remainder of the season. Williams averaged 3.6 points, 0.8 assists and 0.6 rebounds in five games for the Jazz.

Williams scored just seven points on 2 of 6 shooting from the field, including 1 of 2 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. His lone 3-pointer came from the right wing late in the final quarter. He also chipped in with three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Williams has averaged 4.9 points over 37 games played but has topped that mark in each of his last six games, including scoring 15 points in back-to-back games a week and a half ago. The 76ers are already without another shooting guard, Hollis Thompson, so Williams' presence could be sorely missed if he can't go.

Williams scored 15 points for the second night in a row, and he needed just as many minutes to do it as he did Friday. He shot 5 of 9 from the field Saturday and 3 of 4 from three-point range, while adding one rebound and two assists in a 113-96 loss.

Williams has been just a role player for the 76ers this season, but he has shown solid skills at times. He is still averaging just 4.5 points per game for the season, while appearing in 33 of the Sixers' first 48 games.

(1/7/2014) The 76ers emptied the bench in a blowout loss to the Cavaliers Tuesday, allowing some little-used bench players to thrive. Forward Brandon Davies and guard Elliot Williams both managed season-highs in scoring in the 111-93 loss.

Williams played 23 points off the bench, his second game in a row with 20-plus minutes played. He scored 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting, while adding four rebounds and an assist. Davies played a season-high 24 minutes himself, and added 11 points on 3 of 4 shooting, including 5 of 7 at the free-throw line. Davies also added four rebounds, one assists and a pair of steals.

Williams went 2 of 5 shooting from the field, including 1 of 1 from behind the arc, and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. His lone 3-pointer game in the second quarter from the top of the key. He also chipped in with three rebounds and three assists while logging 20 minutes of game action in a 126-95 defeat.

Williams has only made 18 of 56 shots since joining the team on Nov. 20. he has averaged 10.8 minutes per game over that span.

Williams' only regular-season action came during the 2011-12 season, when he averaged 3.7 points in 24 games with the Trail Blazers. Brown is a rookie out of North Carolina State who was waived by the Timberwolves during the preseason. The 76ers cleared space for the pair by waiving center Kwame Brown and guard Darius Morris.

The No. 22 overall draft pick of the Blazers back in 2010 has suffered a string of injuries, including a torn Achilles that caused him to miss the entire 2012-13 season.

Williams, who will still be gone for the rest of the season, participated in drills at practice Tuesday. “I’ve been jumping in and out of drills a little bit,” Williams said Tuesday afternoon following the Blazers’ practice. “But this was the first time I really took it serious, where I like, went all out.”
