by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Vasquez played 18 minutes off the bench despite the game going into overtime, and didn't really make a compelling argument for more playing time. He scored 10 points on 5 of 14 shooting, and added just two rebounds and two turnovers in the 118-113 loss.

Vasquez is shooting just 35.5 percent from the field in the month of March, while averaging 8.5 points and 3.4 assists per game.

Greivis Vasquez just misses double-double Monday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1/20/2014) Raptors guard Greivis Vasquez came just short of what would have been his second double-double of the season Monday, scoring 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting and dishing out nine assists in his team's 100-95 loss to the Bobcats.

Vasquez also hauled in a season-high seven rebounds in 24 minutes while posting his highest scoring total since being acquired by the Raptors in December. He has averaged 8.1 points and 4.4 assists in 38 games played.

New Raptors look rusty Friday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/13/2013) Playing their first games in a new system, the three Raptors players acquired in last week's trade from Sacramento did not look great Friday against the 76ers.

Guard Greivis Vasquez was the best of the three, but he struggled to make plays in the new system. Vasquez scored 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, but had just two assists and four turnovers in 17 minutes.

Vasquez looked more comfortable than forwards Patrick Patterson or John Salmons, however, who combined to shoot just 2 of 8 from the field. Patterson scored five points with five rebounds in 19 minutes, while Salmons scored three points with two rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes, in the 108-100 win.

Greivis Vasquez says he's trying too hard

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(11/7/2013) Kings point guard Greivis Vasquez believes his struggles thus far this season are stemming from the fact that he's trying too hard to play better basketball, ESPN reports.

After averaging nine assists per game last season with the Pelicans, Vasquez has started very slowly with Sacramento. He also believes the team needs to run more.

The 26-year-old Vasquez is averaging just 9.0 points and 3.8 assists per game over 25 minutes in his first four contests.

Greivis Vasquez still shaking off rust

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/24/2013) Kings guard Greivis Vasquez is still shaking off his rust as he failed to make much of an impact during Wednesday's preseason game against the Warriors.

Vasquez, who earned the start, logged 22 minutes of game action and went 3 of 5 from the field, including 1 of 1 from downtown. He finished with seven points and six turnovers. He also chipped in with three assists and two rebounds.

Vasquez is averaging 5.7 points on 38.0 percent shooting from the field through his first four preseason games back from ankle surgery.

Kings still deciding between Greivis Vasquez and Isaiah Thomas

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/19/2013) The Kings' starting point guard job remains wide open, after Greivis Vasquez's return from ankle surgery. Vasquez has started two preseason games, the same number as Isaiah Thomas, and head coach Mike Malone does not see either player as having a lead at this point.

"It's toe-to-toe. Those guys are both doing a great job," Malone told SactownRoyalty.com Thursday.

Thomas is averaging 11.2 points and 5.2 assists per game in four preseason appearances, while Vasquez is averaging just 6.0 points and 1.5 assists in 13.0 minutes in his two games

"You can see [Vasquez's] passion, his leadership, his playmaking ability, and then you have a guy like Isaiah who can also make plays, but is more of a natural scorer," Malone said. "And they compliment each other because one guy is a tall - how can I say it politely - not the quickest guy in the world. And then you have a guy like Isaiah who comes in, whose a water bug, who can get to wherever he wants to go on the floor and can put a lot of pressure on the defense."

The Kings have played both together in small lineups during the preseason, but they may not have many chances to do that given their depth at guard. The Kings have three preseason games left to determine their starter.

Greivis Vasquez nearly ready to return

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/12/2013) Kings guard Greivis Vasquez is expected to make his debut with the team in Monday's preseason game against the Clippers, according to the Sacramento Bee. Vasquez has been recovering from ankle surgery, and is battling for the starting point guard spot.

Greivis Vasquez ready to compete for starting job

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(9/30/2013) Kings new point guard Greivis Vasquez, who had surgery to clean up some loose particles in his right ankle this offseason, says he's just about ready to go, the Sacramento Bee reports.

"I'm 85-90 percent ready," Vasquez said. "I'm going to go through camp for sure, I'm going to do everything we have to do but I'm probably going to play limited minutes through the first coupile of games because I want to be playing in April. I don't want to overload my ankle right now and not be able to play later on. Coach Malone is very aware of that."

Vasquez is attempting to win the starting point guard position over returning starter Isaiah Thomas.

Kings prepping for battle at point guard

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/28/2013) The Kings acquired point guard Greivis Vasquez this offseason, which could force them into a difficult decision with incumbent Isaiah Thomas. As Thomas told Hoopsworld.com Friday, he is looking forward to the possibility of competing for the position, after starting 62 of 79 games last season.

"Hopefully the position will be up for competition," Thomas said. "If it is, I'm going to be battling each and every practice, each and every workout, whatever."

The Kings are blessed with depth at both guard spots this season, but it may be difficult to get both players enough time to keep them happy. Both have improbably become starting-caliber guards, as each averaged 13.9 points per game a year ago, with Vasquez averaging 9.0 assists while Thomas had just 4.0 in 26.9 minutes per game.

It is not yet clear when the team expects to make a decision on the starting lineup.

Greivis Vasquez expects to be ready for training camp

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/7/2013) Kings guard Greivis Vasquez is not yet healthy enough from offseason ankle surgery to play for Venezuela in the FIBA Americas Championship, but he is making progress in his recovery. He hopes to be ready by the start of the regular season.

"I find myself to be much better," Vasquez told ESPN.com Monday. "The progress has been really good and really productive but I need a month and half to get my physical condition at 100 percent again."

Vasquez is walking without a noticeable limp, but it is not clear what kind of activities he has been cleared for. Still, the report indicates Vasquez hopes to be ready for the start of preseason play, which begins Oct. 7 for the Kings.

Coming off a season in which he averaged 13.9 points, 9.0 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game, Vasquez was traded by the Pelicans to the Kings. He will battle for the starting point guard role with Isaiah Thomas in training camp.

Vasquez heads to Sacramento

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/18/2013) The Kings acquired guard Greivis Vasquez from the Pelicans early in the free-agency period, as part of a sign-and-trade involving Tyreke Evans heading to New Orleans. Vasquez, who is recovering from surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle, is coming off a breakout season, in which he averaged 13.9 points and 9.0 assists per game. Vasquez is eight weeks from being cleared to resume basketball activities due to his recovery from the surgery, but should be ready in time for training camp.

Vasquez goes under the knife

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/29/2013) Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez had surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle last week, and tweeted from his personal account that he will likely need 12 to 16 weeks to recover fully from the procedure. That will likely put his return to the court between August and September, giving him plenty of time to be fully healed for training camp.

Vasquez shows growth in third year

by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com
(4/23/2013) Despite finishing second in voting behind Paul George for the NBA's Most Improved Player Award, Pelicans guard Greivis Vasquez was happy with the improvement he showed in his game this year. Vasquez averaged a career-best 13.9 points, 9.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds on 43.3 percent shooting from the field. His 25 double-doubles led the team and he also notched the first triple-double of his career. "It was a good step forward for myself,'' Vasquez told the Times Picayune. "As a player, you want to gain respect knowing that you’re a winner. Next year, my biggest thing is to lead this team to win. When I do that, I’ll be very proud. It was a good accomplishment. (But) second is always the best loser. I’m not really happy or proud of that.''

Vasquez out Wednesday

(4/17/2013) The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that a sore right ankle will keep Hornets starting point guard Greivis Vasquez out of the lineup for Wednesday night's season finale at the Mavericks, coach Monty Williams said. In Vasquez's absence, Brian Roberts will get the start against the Mavs. It will be the fifth start this season for Roberts. Vasquez missed last Wednesday night's home game against the Clippers with the ankle injury. He missed two games previously this year with a left ankle sprain.

(4/14/2013) New Orleans guard Greivis Vasquez was able to get back on the court for Sunday's contest against the Hornets. Vasquez, who was forced to sit out the Hornets' loss to the Clippers last Friday night due to an ankle injury, finished with 11 points in the 107-89 defeat. He went 1 of 4 from downtown and also added four assists and three rebounds to his stat line, while logging 36 minutes of game action.
