Wizards officially sign PG Gary Neal

(7/9/2015) The Wizards added a veteran presence to their backcourt, officially signing guard Gary Neal to a contract Thursday, reportedly worth $1.2 million for one year. 

"Gary is a proven veteran who will bring us perimeter shooting and experience," Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld said in a statement. "Adding him to our rotation makes our backcourt rotation deeper and more versatile."

In 54 games with the Hornets and Timberwolves last season, he averaged 10.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting .305 from 3-point range. 


Report: SG Gary Neal, Wizards agree on one-year deal

(7/3/2015) The Wizards and free-agent shooting guard Gary Neal have agreed on a one-year, $2.1 million deal, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Neal will serve as a shooter on the Wizards after they lost veteran Paul Pierce to the Clippers earlier this week. He averaged 10.1 points per game in 51 games for the Hornets and Timberwolves.

It's up to the team doctors and coach Flip Saunders whether Neal is in the lineup or not, but it sounds like he has a chance to be back in action before the end of the season. He's played just one game since March 13 while recovering from an ankle injury.

Neal had missed the prior four games before attempting to return, though the injury limited him to just 21 minutes.

(3/22/2015) Timberwolves guard Gary Neal appeared to hurt his ankle during Sunday's game, which forced him to leave the game, according to the Wolves radio play-by-play announcer Alan Horton. The team later announced Neal would not return to the game.

Neal had missed the last four games with an ankle injury. Neal played 21 minutes before suffering the injury.
