(2/21/2015) The Timberwolves are reportedly planning on keeping guard Gary Neal throughout the remainder of the season, according to Yahoo Sports NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Neal, who Minnesota just acquired in a trade with the Hornets, wants to play for a team on playoff run and is expected to request a buyout, according to CBSSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger.

Neal is averaging 9.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 44 games this season.

The Hawks are among the teams interested in Neal, though it's possible that those teams will wait until afther the trade deadline to see if the Timberwolves stick to their plan to not buy out the guard's contract. The team has been trying to attach small forward Chase Budinger to any deal involving Neal, ESPN.com reports.

Neal has averaged 9.6 points on a career-low 35.9 percent shooting in 43 games.

(2/13/2015) According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, there is significant interest around the league for Timberwolves point guard Gary Neal -- including from the Hawks. However, Neal has not had substantive talks yet on a buyout agreement with Minnesota.

Neal was shipped from Charlotte to Minnesota on a three-player trade on Tuesday. He sat out Wednesday's game against Golden State. Neal appeared in 43 of Charlotte's 52 games, posting averages of 9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 35.9 percent from the field over that span.

The Wolves will return to the floor Feb. 20 against Phoenix.

(2/11/2015) Recenlty acquired forward Adreian Payne is available to play in Wednesday's game for the Timberwolves, the team announced.

However, coach Flip Saunders said he is unsure if Payne will receive any playing time. Payne has appeared in three games this season and is averaging 1.7 points and 1.3 rebounds.

Meanwhile, guard Gary Neal has been ruled out of the game.

The Wolves are 9 1/2-point underdogs at home to the Warriors.

Neal was sent to Minnesota on Tuesday, and it appears he'll remain with the club. Coach Flip Saunders said the club needed a shooter, and there are currently no plans to buy out Neal's contract.

Timberwolves ship Mo Williams to Hornets for Gary Neal, Troy Daniels

(2/10/2015) The Timberwolves have traded guard Mo Williams to the Hornets, in exchange for guard Gary Neal, guard Troy Daniels and a second-round draft pick, Charlotte announced Tuesday. In order to clear roster space, the Hornets released Elliot Williams from his 10-day contract.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Hornets are determined to make a playoff push, and feel that the addition of Williams would give them a chance to make a run while Kemba Walker remains sideline. The move would also keep Lance Stephenson from running the point while Walker is injured.

Outside of point guard depth, Williams gives Charlotte another threat beyond the arc. Williams is averaging 12.3 points and 6.5 assists in 40 games (19 starts) this season for Minnesota. He has knocked down 40.3 percent of his field goal attempts and 34.7 of his shots from downtown.

Meanwhile, Neal has appeared in 43 of Charlotte's 52 games, posting averages of 9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 35.9 percent from the field over that span. Daniels is averaging 2.8 points and 0.5 assists in 35 games between Minnesota and Houston. Daniels is familiar with the organization. He spent time in Charlotte's training camp in 2013.


Hornets looking to see how Pargo, Neal play before making move

(1/28/2015) With Hornets guard Kemba Walker out for an extended amount of time, Hornets coach Steve Clifford said they would like to see how guards Jannero Pargo and Gary Neal play in expanded roles before a making a move, reports the Charlotte Observer.

Pargo has been out since Dec. 22 with a back injury, but is expected back soon. Neal is expected to receive more minutes at the point guard spot.
