Rockets sign Ish Smith to one-year deal

(7/17/2014) Just a few days after being being waived by Phoenix, the Rockets have signed guard Ish Smith to a one-year deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports on Thursday. Terms of the deal were not made public. Smith played 70 games in his one season in Phoenix, average 3.7 points, 2.6 assists and 14.4 minutes per game.

Ish Smith inefficient in first start

(2/27/2014) Suns guard Ish Smith started his first game of the season Wednesday against the Jazz, with Goran Dragic sidelined by an ankle injury.

Smith scored 13 points, but needed 15 field-goal attempts, as he made just five of them. He added eight rebounds and five assists without a turnover, and also chipped in two steals in 36 minutes in the 109-86 loss.

Smith has mostly filled in as the team's backup point guard, and had been playing well in that role. He is averaging 6.5 points and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field in the month of February.

(1/29/2014) Suns guard Ish Smith continues to fill in as the team's backup point guard, as he played 21 minutes Wednesday in a 126-117 win over the Bucks.

Smith played 21 minutes in Wednesday's win, with Goran Dragic missing some time with an elbow issue.  He scored six points on 3 of 6 shooting, but matched the team-high with six assists. He turned the ball over just once, and added two rebounds and two steals in his effort.

Smith has been the primary backup point guard for the Suns over the last month or so, but his production remains pedestrian. He is averaging 3.7 points and 2.7 assists in the month of January.

(1/7/2014) Suns guard Ish Smith has seen his role grow in recent games, with the injury to Eric Bledsoe keeping him out of the lineup.

Smith scored in double figures for the first time Tuesday against the Bulls, as he chipped in 10 points in 23 minutes off the bench. He shot 4 of 8 from the field but missed all three of his 3-pointers, while adding one rebound and three assists in a 92-87 loss.

Smith has appeared in 21 games this season, and is averaging 3.5 points and 2.3 assists per game. 


Ish Smith lands in Phoenix

(9/7/2013) The Suns acquired guard Ish Smith and center Viacheslav Kravtsov from the Bucks in late August, in a trade that sent veteran forward Caron Butler to Milwaukee.

Smith, 24, has spent three seasons in the NBA but has never caught on as a rotation regular. He averaged just2 2.4 points per game in 52 games for the Magic and Bucks last season, right in line with his career average.
