Nikola Vucevic, Tobias Harris are part of team's future, Magic GM says

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/30/2014) Magic general manager Rob Hennigan told reporters on media day that he envisions center Nikola Vucevic and forward Tobias Harris as part of their future, according to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders.

"We don't envision a scenario where either of those players aren't with us moving forward," Hennigan said.

Vucevic appeared in 57 games last season, averaging a career-best 14.2 points per outing. He is expected to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2014-15 season. The Magic are hoping to give Harris an extension before the start of this season. He averaged 14.6 points and 7.0 rebounds over 61 games in 2013-14.

Tobias Harris' Fantasy value a mystery at this point

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/17/2014) Perception is a funny thing. Just ask Magic forward Tobias Harris, who enjoyed by far the most productive season of his career in 2013-14 but was somehow viewed as a Fantasy disappointment.

Part of that stemmed from Harris' issues with availability, as he missed 20 games and got off to a slow start to the season as a result. It really took until January for Harris to find his stride, but he averaged 15.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game from Jan. 1 on, without missing a contest.

Harris was probably better than the general perception of him a year ago, but the power of expectations hurt him. And now he enters his fourth season as something of a career crossroads, and it is hard to say just how Fantasy owners should approach him this season.

The Magic added Channing Frye and Aaron Gordon to the roster this season, further confusing what was already one of the most crowded frontcourts in the league. Harris can play both forward spots, but he is probably best used as a small-ball power forward; the presence of Frye, one of the league's elite stretch-fours certainly complicates matters for Harris, then.

At just 22, Harris still has a world of potential ahead of him. However, he probably profiles best as a reserve Fantasy option heading into the season, given concerns about his role.

Tobias Harris continues solid play

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/26/2014) Magic forward Tobias Harris continues to thrive in his role off the bench, as he notched his 11th double-digit scoring effort in 12 March games Tuesday against the Trail Blazers.

Harris scored 25 points Tuesday, and he did it with great efficiency. He shot 10 for 15 from the field and 2 for 3 from three-point range in 33 minutes, while adding 11 rebounds and one block in the 95-85 win.

In 18 games since the All-Star break, Harris has failed to reach double figures in scoring just once. He is averaging 17.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in that span, compared to 14.8 and 7.1 for the season.

Tobias Harris struggles in move to bench

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/29/2014) Magic forward Tobias Harris had been producing well as a starter, but the team opted to move him back to a bench role Wednesday against the Raptors, with Nikola Vucevic making his return from a 12-game absence.

Harris played 27 minutes off the bench, and struggled to get much going on offense. Though he snagged 11 rebounds in his limited role, Harris shot just 2 of 8 for nine points, just his third single-digit scoring effort in the month of January. He added three assists, one block and one steal, while turning the ball over twice in a 98-83 loss.

Harris averaged 16.8 points and 9.5 rebounds in the 12 games Vucevic missed, so it will be interesting to see what happens to his role moving forward.

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

At this point, there remains no timetable for his possible return from the injury that originally kept him off the floor for more than a month.

"High-ankle sprains take time, and everybody’s healing timeline is different," Magic general manager Rob Hennigan told the Orlando Sentinel Saturday. "And, right now, Tobias is working through that and trying to figure [that] out. When he feels his ankle is right, he’ll be ready to play. So, our stance right now is to be precautious and make sure that we don’t rush him back."

Harris appeared in one game last week, his only appearance of the season. He has played just 16 minutes on the season.
