Raptors ink PG Cory Joseph to four-year deal

(7/6/2015) Point guard Cory Joseph landed a big deal late Sunday, inking a four-year deal with the Toronto Raptors, per ESPN.com. 

Joseph served as the primary backup to Tony Parker with the Spurs for four years. San Antonio pulled a qualifying offer to Joseph in order to sign LaMarcus Aldridge, giving the Raptors the chance to move in on the reported $30 million contract. 

Joseph played in 79 games last season for the Spurs, averaging 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game -- all career-highs.

(4/3/2015) Spurs backup PG Patty Mills has been struggling in recent games, and Cory Joseph has stepped up in his place. 

Joseph replaced Mills after a minute and a half on Tuesday and had four steals in the game. Joseph was the first guard off the bench in Wednesday's game. 

"Cory’s really solid," coach Gregg Popovich said, per the San Antonio Express-News. "He digs out loose balls, 50-50 balls. I was glad to see him start to take his jumper and knock down a few."

(1/3/2015) Spurs point guard Cory Joseph scored a team-high 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting in his team's 101-92 win over the Spurs Saturday.

Joseph helped key a 55.1-percent shooting night from the team, playing 33 minutes and tallying four rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the win. His next matchup comes Tuesday against the Pistons.

(1/2/2015) The Spurs announced forward Kawhi Leonard and guard Tony Parker have been ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Wizards.

It will be the 10th straight game Leonard has missed since tearing a ligament in his hand. A hamstring injury has kept Parker out of the last four games. Guard Cory Joseph has been starting in Parker’s absence, while forward Kyle Anderson has taken over Leonard’s place in the starting lineup.

The Spurs are 3-point favorites.

(12/30/2014) Starting in place of injured Tony Parker, Spurs guard Cory Joseph tied for the team-lead with 18 points in a 95-87 loss to the Grizzlies Tuesday.

Joseph has scored in double-figures each of the last three games Parker has missed and has shot better than 50 percent in each of those games. During Tuesday's game, Joseph shot 9 of 13 from field and added three assists and three steals. His lone blemish was turning the ball over four times.

The Spurs next play Wednesday against the Pelicans.

Parker is dealing with a hamstring injury which coach Greg Popovich said will keep him out 'a while.' Guard Cory Joseph has been starting in Parker’s absence.

Meanwhile, Sunday will be the seventh straight game Leonard has missed since suffering a torn ligament in his hand. Forward Kyle Anderson has been starting in Leonard’s place.

The Spurs are 2 1/2-point favorites.

While Duncan and Ginobili will not play to rest, Leonard is dealing with a torn ligament in his right hand and Parker is nursing a hamstring injury. It will be the third straight game Leonard has missed due to the injury and the fifth straight for Parker.

Guard Cory Joseph is expected to start in Parker’s place. Joseph flirted with a triple-double during Friday’s loss to the Trail Blazers. Forward Kyle Anderson is expected to replace Leonard.

The Spurs are 11-point underdogs.

(12/6/2014) Spurs point guard Cory Joseph drew the start Saturday with Tony Parker (hamstring) sidelined and scored 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting in his team's 123-101 win over the Timberwolves.

Joseph matched a season high in scoring while delivering the efficient shooting perfomance and was the only Spurs player to top 30 minutes of action, playing 33 minutes while racking up five assists, four rebounds and one steal. The Spurs get a few days off before facing the Jazz Tuesday, and Joseph would presumably make another start if Parker has to miss another game.

Joseph played seven minutes in the first half Friday, missing his only shot while collecting three assists and two rebounds. The Spurs face a quick turnaround, with a home game against the Nets set for Saturday.

(2/7/2014) Spurs guard Cory Joseph tried to keep the injury-battered Spurs afloat Thursday, as he put together his best performance of the season in a 103-89 loss to the Nets.

Joseph scored a season-high 18 points on 5 of 12 shooting, as he made himself comfortable at the free-throw line. He sank all seven of his tries at the charity stripe, and did a good job filling up the box score otherwise in his 35 minutes of action. He added four rebounds, four steals and three assists while turning the ball over twice in the losing effort.

Joseph has appeared in 38 of the team's first 50 games, and is playing a much bigger role than in years past. He is averaging a career-high 4.7 points per game, while adding 1.3 assists in just 13.1 minutes per game.

Joseph scored eight points in 23 minutes in the start, while shooting 3 of 5 from the field. He added two rebounds and five assists, and did not turn the ball over once in the game.

Joseph has now started six games this season, for of them coming over the team's last five games. He is averaging 4.2 points per games, and has already appeared in a career-high 33 contests.

The Spurs emptied the bench after leading the entire way, causing Joseph to see action for just the third time this year. He added one rebound in the win.

(10/28/2013) The Spurs announced Monday that they have exercised their fourth-year options for forward Kawhi Leonard and guard Cory Joseph, the team's official site reports. Both players are signed through the 2014-15 season.

In two years with San Antonio, Leonard has played in 122 games. Over that stretch he has averaged 9.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.49 steals in 32.8 minutes. In 35 career playoff games, the California native has averaged 11.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.54 steals in 33.0 minutes.

Joseph has averaged 3.2 points, 1.5 assists and 1.4 rebounds over 11.5 minutes of 57 games during his first two NBA seasons.

Joseph did not make much of an impact as he went 3 of 5 shooting from the field, including 1 of 1 from downtown, and 1 of 1 from the free throw line. He finished with eight points, four assists and two steals while logging 18 minutes of game action in a 114-75 victory.
