News: Mavericks F Brian Cardinal saw his most extended playing time of the season on Friday, playing 20 minutes in a 102-76 blowout over the Bucks. Cardinal finished the game with five points, two rebounds, and three assists.
Analysis: Cardinal is playing just 9.7 minutes per game so far this season, an average that is inflated by two 20-minute games in blowouts. He is a deep reserve for the Mavericks and has no value in any Fantasy format.
News: Free agent F Brian Cardinal will re-sign with the Mavericks on Sunday. Cardinal posted on his Twitter account: "Jumping on a plane tomorrow headed for the Big D! Excited to be back with the Mavs!!! Let's get it!!!''
Analysis: Cardinal averaged 2.6 points in 11 minutes per game last season and will now get another chance to defend Dallas' title in 2011-12. However, he will be the 11th man on the bench most nights, so owners can continue to ignore the veteran at this point in the year.
News: Though he's appeared in just 38 games this season, Mavericks forward Brian Cardinal was called upon in Monday's win over the Timberwolves, his former team. He did not disappoint on his old home-court. Cardinal scored a season-high 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting -- all from beyond the arc -- in 17 minutes of action. "Without Cardinal, I don't think we'd have won the game," coach Rick Carlisle said. "His activity, rebounds, loose balls, deflections, shot-making completely turned the game around." He added three steals, also a season-high, and an assist in the 108-105 win. "It was exciting to be out there playing," said Cardinal, who spent the previous two seasons in Minnesota. "I've got a good relationship with quite a few of those guys over there and people within the organization. It was fun to go out there and play and compete against them."
Analysis: The 11-year veteran saw some increased playing time when Dirk Nowitzki picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter. He had played a grand total of 9:17 in his last five games, including three where he didn't see the floor at all. He continues to play serviceable in spots, which keeps his career going steady year after year. Cardinal played well in a rare role Monday, but Fantasy owners should know better than to go scoop up the former Purdue Boilermaker off of the waiver wire in any format.
News: Mavericks forward Brian Cardinal has not been much of a Fantasy contributor through the unofficial first half of the season. Cardinal made a handful of starts when Sasha Pavlovic was cut last month, but has since moved back to the bench. His most productive game came against the Wizards when he scored a season-high nine points and grabbed four rebounds while playing a season-high 31 minutes.
Analysis: Cardinal has been an invaluable piece to the Mavericks this season. Unfortunately, those sentiments cannot be shared among Fantasy owners, as Cardinal has been a complete non-factor in the Fantasy department. While he is shooting a career-best 47 percent from behind the arc, his season averages of 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds aren't going to help many owners. He he might have a decent outing every now and again, but Cardinal is a player who should remain on the waiver wire heading into the second half of the season.
News: Dallas PF Brian Cardinal got the start at small forward on Monday night against Washington. The Mavericks decided to keep Jason Terry and Shawn Marion coming off the bench with Sasha Pavlovic being cut last week. Pavlovic had been starting at the position. Cardinal got hot early and hit his first two 3-point attempts, scoring six points in the first quarter and leading the Mavericks in minutes in the opening frame with 11. Cardinal played 30 minutes total in the game but shot just 3 of 8 from the field to score nine points as he managed just one more 3-pointer the rest of the way. He added four rebounds and one block.
Analysis: Cardinal entered Monday averaging 12.7 minutes per game this season with 3.0 points, 1.4 rebounds and 23 3-pointers in 27 games. Though he's starting, it doesn't mean he's going to gain any Fantasy value. Marion will still see the bulk of the minutes as he did when Pavlovic was the starter. Cardinal should be left on waivers.
News: Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said Wednesday that PF Brian Cardinal will stick around past Monday's deadline when his contract becomes guaranteed.
Analysis: The 33-year-old Cardinal is averaging 12.4 minutes, 2.7 points and 1.6 rebounds this season for Dallas, his sixth NBA team. As just a little-used reserve forward, Cardinal remains a non-factor in Fantasy play.
News: Mavericks forward Brian Cardinal was back in action on Tuesday after missing Monday's game against the Grizzlies due to an illness. Cardinal had eight points on 2 of 4 shooting in the loss to the Raptors in 21 minutes off the bench.

News: Dallas PF Brian Cardinal was not available on Monday night against the Thunder. He was dealing with an illness and is considered day to day.
Analysis: Cardinal is averaging just over eight minutes per game and has played in just 14 contests this season. He has no Fantasy value, healthy or not, at this time.
News: Dallas PF Brian Cardinal has missed seven games with the flu as of Wednesday against Portland. At this point, it is safe to assume that Cardinal simply has not returned to the rotation and that he's over his illness. He doesn't get minutes normally, anyway.
Analysis: Cardinal has played in 13 games this season and averages 8.5 minutes per night. He has no Fantasy value, even as a healthy player.
News: Dallas PF Brian Cardinal (illness) continues to sit out for the Mavericks as they lost to the Bucks on Monday night. Cardinal has not played in his team's last six games.
Analysis: At this point, it is anybody's best guess when Cardinal sees action again. We doubt he's still really dealing with the illness. They don't usually take this long to get better. Cardinal doesn't have any Fantasy value anyway.
News: Dallas forward Brian Cardinal was inactive on Saturday when the Mavericks hosted the Jazz. He's dealing with a stomach illness.
Analysis: Cardinal last scored on Dec. 1, so his playing time is already limited. Fantasy owners should not be concerned with him, as he doesn't play enough to be considered an option. Leave him on waivers.
News: The Suns added F Brian Cardinal to their training camp roster on Monday. He was among three moves made to bolster the roster.
Analysis: Cardinal appeared in 29 games for Minnesota a season ago. Even if he does make the roster, he is not expected to play a significant role. He should not be owned in Fantasy.
News: The Minnesota Timberwolves have brought back veteran forward Brian Cardinal. Cardinal signed with the Wolves on Tuesday. He was traded to New York last month for center Darko Milicic, but the Knicks waived Cardinal. The 6-foot-8 Cardinal played in 27 games for Minnesota before the trade.
Analysis: Cardinal averaged only 1.7 points and 9.0 minutes per game, but he has been a popular teammate for the rebuilding Timberwolves. They first acquired Cardinal in a draft-day deal with Memphis in 2008 that sent O.J. Mayo to the Grizzlies and brought Kevin Love to Minnesota. He has no Fantasy appeal, however, and should be left on the waiver wire.

News: Timberwolves PF Brian Cardinal contributed just one point and one rebound in six minutes off the bench Monday against the Bucks. Cardinal has one of zero points in six of 12 January games.
Analysis: Cardinal was averaging 9.0 points per game from 2003-05, but his numbers have been on a steep decline ever since. He barely gets into games with the T-Wolves and has no Fantasy value.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that T-Wolves F Brian Cardinal, a former Grizzly, attempted three three-pointers -- and missed them all -- in six minutes in the second quarter and now is 1-for-9 for the season on three-pointers.
Analysis: Cardinal gets almost -- almost -- six minutes per game and isn't even averaging in single digits. Ignore, ignore, ignore.
News: Memphis acquired Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker, Greg Buckner and the draft rights to O.J. Mayo from Minnesota in exchange for Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, Jason Collins and the draft rights to Kevin Love late Thursday night after the NBA draft was over.
Analysis: Buckner saw limited action in Minnesota and won't be in line for many minutes in Memphis either. He was included in the trade to make the salary numbers work and Fantasy owners shouldn't waste a draft pick on him this fall.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Grizzlies PF Brian Cardinal played for the second straight game Tuesday against the Bucks. He had six points and one rebound in 19:24. "I'm excited I'm getting some minutes," Cardinal said. "I've sat over there for a couple of months."
Analysis: The Grizzlies had so many players nursing injuries and yet to arrive in their trade with the Lakers that they had no choice but to use Cardinal. He played for only the 10th time this season and has no Fantasy value.
