Bucks C John Henson could be in line for bigger role in 2015-16

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/16/2015) Bucks center John Henson will likely see a more prominent role with the team in the 2015-16 season. Coach Jason Kidd could choose to play Henson next to recent-acquisition Greg Monroe at certain points next season.

"For me, I can play anybody," Kidd said of Henson's projected role, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He'll find some time throughout the year. Henson and Monroe will be on the floor. Henson can play 5 (center) and 4 (power forward). We can go with two bigs or Henson can be out at the 5 with all smalls."

Last season, Henson averaged 7.0 points and 4.7 total rebounds per game, while shooting 56 percent from the field. He nearly averaged nine points per game in last season's playoffs while playing 25.5 minutes per game from the bench.

"What he did in the playoffs is potentially a statement in his young career," Bucks general manager Hammond said. "To defend the interior against the players Chicago has — (Joakim) Noah and (Pau) Gasol — was impressive.

"We think John is a great complement to Greg with his defensive ability and his ability as a premier shot-blocker in the league."

Bucks C John Henson doubles up vs. Magic Thursday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

John Henson still tough to rely on

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/13/2015) Consistency has been an issue for Bucks big man John Henson throughout his career, and that trend has stayed true this season, as Fantasy owners have found him hard to rely on.

Henson was one of the most-added players in CBSSports.com leagues for a few weeks, after putting up 3.0 blocks per game in his first five after returning from an injury. However, though he is still averaging 2.2 blocks over his last five games, his overall production has fallen off in that span, with just a 3.6 rebounds-per-game average to his credit.

Henson has been dropped in five percent of CBSSports.com leagues over the last week, and is down to 28 percent. At this point, that is probably about right for Henson, who backs up Zaza Pachulia and has never proven himself to be a reliable option. Maybe if he steps into a starting role, Henson would be worth owning in more leagues, but at this point he's easy to pass on. Especially with how many other young centers are getting more opportunities.

"My rookie year was the same way -- I didn't know what I was going to be," Henson said. "I had no idea. I just have to come to play in training camp, and hopefully I'll be in a position to help the team."
