Mavericks sign G John Jenkins

(7/24/2015) The Mavericks have announced the signing of free agent guard John Jenkins, the Dallas Morning News has reported.

Jenkins spent the last three seasons with Atlanta. He averaged 5.6 points in 13.8 minutes per game during that time, but played in just 37 games over the last two years combined.

(3/28/2015) With the top seed in the Eastern Conference wrapped up, the Hawks will not play their starting five on Saturday in order to rest them, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitutional

Forwards Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll, guard Kyle Korver and center Al Horford will sit out Saturday's game in Charlotte.

Starting guard Jeff Teague is already out with a left ankle sprain.

It's expected that backups John Jenkins, Mike Muscala and Elton Brand will get the start tonight.

Jenkins has appeared in three games with the Hawks this season, scoring 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting in 27 minutes. He played six games with Idaho of the D-League, averaging 16.8 points on 47.9 percent shooting in 32.1 minutes per game.

(9/17/2014) Hawks guard John Jenkins was able to play a few games during the team's Las Vegas Summer League run, a sign that he has recovered from a lower back issue that derailed his 2013-14 season.

Jenkins appeared in just 13 games a year ago before finally having back surgery in January, but is expected to be at full health for the start of training camp. He appeared in two Summer League games, and is expected to compete for a backup role in the backcourt.

Jenkins has averaged just 5.6 points in 74 games over two seasons since the Hawks selected him 23rd overall in the 2012 draft.

"Jenkins will undergo a period of rest and recovery, followed by treatment and rehabilitation," according to the report.

Jenkins averaged 3.1 points and 12.2 minutes over 13 games in his second season with the Hawks.

(1/25/2014) The Hawks have had miserable luck with injuries this season, and it continues with guard John Jenkins expected to undergo back surgery, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Jenkins, who has appeared in just 13 games and has not played since Dec. 26, is seriously considering surgery on his back, according to the report. Details of the procedure have not been determined, but he has been dealing with nerve pain in his left leg as a result of the injury since the summer.

Jenkins has not progressed with just rest and therapy, prompting the decision to go under the knife. At this point, there remains no timeline for his potential return.

Jenkins, who had missed the past four games while dealing with post-concussion symptoms, finished with a career-best 23 points in the 99-97 defeat.
