Hornets sign contract extension with SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

(8/27/2015) The Hornets have announced that they have signed small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to a contract extension.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kidd-Gilchrist averaged a career-high 10.9 points and 7.6 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game last season.

(6/18/2015) Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has started light dribbling and shooting, reports The Charlotte Observer.

Kidd-Gilchrist is trying to recover from an ankle injury, which ended his season in late March. He is on schedule to be cleared to begin cutting in two weeks.


Five Hornets players ruled out for season finale

(4/15/2015) The Hornets will play their season finale without the services of five key players, all of whom were ruled out by the team Wednesday.

Center Al Jefferson (knee), forwards Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (ankle) and Cody Zeller (shoulder), and guards P.J. Hairston (knee) and Lance Stephenson (toe) will not play against Toronto. 

The Hornets are 10-point underdogs against the Raptors.

Kidd-Gilchrist was originally listed as questionable for the game.

It'll be the ninth straight game that Kidd-Gilchrist will miss. The Hornets are seven and a half point underdogs on the road.

Kidd-Gilchrist has been out since March 28 with swelling in his ankle.

He is averaging 10.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season.

(4/7/2015) Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is still experiencing swelling in his ankle and coach Steve Clifford said the earliest Kidd-Gilchrist would be available to play would be Friday's game at Atlanta, reports The Charlotte Observer.

As a result of the ankle injury, Kidd-Gilchrist will be held out of Tuesday's game at Miami and Wednesday's contest against the Raptors.

Kidd-Gilchrist is unlikely to return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Heat or Wednesday against the Raptors. 

Kidd-Gilchrist has already missed four games with the injury, and Saturday will be the fifth straight.

Jefferson left Friday's game in Indiana with soreness in his right knee and did not return.

Gilchrist went down hard and grabbed at his ankle before needing assistance to head to the locker room. He scored 11 points on 4 of 11 shooting from the field and grabbed eight rebounds before exiting.

(3/11/2015) Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist led his team in scoring with 23 points against the Kings in a 113-106 loss Wednesday night. 

Kidd-Gilchrist scored his 23 on 9-of-12 shooting. He almost came down with a double-double as he notched nine rebounds. Kidd-Gilchrist's point total marks a new season-high for him. 

Hornets point guard Mo Williams contributed 20 points in the loss. 

Regardless of the fact that both Hornets players scored 20 or more, coach Steve Clifford was not pleased following the game. 

''If we're going to play like this, forget the playoffs,'' Clifford said. ''We can't win like this. We can't win like this. You've got to know who you are and play to your game.''


Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has double-double in Hornets loss

(2/27/2015) Michael Kidd-Gilchrist recorded his tenth double-double of the year, after getting just one all last season, in a 106-98 loss to the Celtics on Friday. 

Kidd-Gilchrist had 12 points and 11 boards, giving him back-to-back double-doubles. He had 15 and 12 at the Bulls, Wednesday. 

The Hornets next play at the Magic on Sunday.

(2/25/2015) Hornets small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored a team-high 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting while hauling in 12 rebounds in his team's 98-86 win over the Bulls in Chicago Wednesday.

Kidd-Gilchrist turned in his ninth double-double in Wednesday's win, playing a season-high 42 minutes while adding one assist and one steal. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Hornets, who will square off with the Celtics Friday.

Kidd-Gilchrist has been battling a hamstirng injury and hasn't played since Feb. 7. The team announced on Twitter that he would return to the starting lineup against the Thunder on Saturday.

The Hornets are a 7.5 point underdog at home.

(2/18/2015) Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was able to go through the non-contact portions of Wednesday's practice and is scheduled to participate in all of Thursday's practice, the team announced.

If Kidd-Gilchrist does not suffer any setbacks, he is expected to play in Saturday's game against the Thunder. Kidd-Gilchrist has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. In 36 games, he is averaging 10.2 points and 7.2 rebounds.

Meanwhile, center Bismack Biyombo is still dealing with a knee issue and will have another MRI on his knee Saturday, reports The Charlotte Observer. Biyombo last played Jan. 24 and will miss the next few games, coach Steve Clifford said.

(2/8/2015) The Hornets announced an MRI taken on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist's right hamstring revealed a hamstring strain and he has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Pacers and Tuesday's game against the Pistons. He will be reevaluated after the All-Star break. Guard Jeff Taylor will start in Sunday's game in place of Kidd-Gilchrist.

Meanwhile, an MRI confirmed center Bismack Biyombo is still dealing with a knee bruise. He last played Jan. 24 and is expected to miss at least the next two weeks. Center Cody Zeller should see his role increase while Biyombo is sidelined.

Kidd-Gilchrist entered January with just two double-doubles on the season but has managed five this month alone, along with two other games with at least 14 rebounds but less than 10 points. He also tallied three assists, one steal and one block in 30 minutes of action in the win. The Hornets will square off with the Wizards Monday.
