Pacers will be without G C.J. Watson (elbow) for season finale

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(4/15/2015) As they try to hold on to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Pacers will be without guard C.J. Watson (elbow) for tonight's critical road game against the Grizzlies, per the team.

Watson has missed the last five games for the Pacers, and his status for the postseason remains unclear. In addition to Watson, forward Chris Copeland (abdomen/elbow) remains sidelined after his stabbing incident on April 8.

Pacers unsure if Sloan (toe) will play Tuesday; Watson, Copeland out

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/14/2015) Pacers guard Donald Sloan is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Wizards, the team announced.

Sloan is dealing with a sore right big toe. In 51 games, Sloan is averaging 7.7 points and 3.7 assists.

Guard C.J. Watson (sore right elbow) and forward Chris Copeland (abdomen/elbow) remain sidelined.

The Pacers are 7-point favorites.

NBA looking into arrest of Hawks' Thabo Sefolosha

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4/11/2015) The NBA is working with the Hawks to gather information on the arrest of forward Thabo Sefolosha, a league spokesman confirmed on Saturday, per ESPN

The league wouldn't say that it was an official investigation of Sefolosha. "We are working with the Hawks organization and local law enforcement to obtain more information about the circumstances surrounding Thabo's arrest," the NBA's Michael Bass said.

Sefolosha was arrested following the Wednesday morning stabbing of Chris Copeland and charged with resisting arrest and interfering with the establishment of a crime scene. He suffered a fractured right fibula and ligament damage in the arrest, and video tape showed him being wrestled to the ground by several officers and struck with a baton.

Report: Pacers F Chris Copeland discharged from hospital

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/10/2015) Pacers forward Chris Copeland was released from a New York City hospital Friday, a source told Bleacher Report.

Copeland is reportedly doing well after being admitted to the hospital Wednesday to recover from stab wounds to his elbow and abdomen.

Copeland and his wife were involved in an altercation Wednesday morning at a New York City nightclub.

Report: Pacers F Chris Copeland also suffered rib injury during incident

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/9/2015) In addition to recovering from stab wounds in his elbow and abdomen, Pacers forward Chris Copeland also reportedly suffered a fracture rib during Wednesday morning's altercation at a New York City nightclub, a source told ESPN.

Copeland is currently in a New York intensive care unit with a punctured diaphragm and he is expected to be released from the hospital Saturday.

Pacers F Chris Copeland says he'll come back stronger

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/9/2015) As Pacers forward Chris Copeland continues to recover from stab wounds in his elbow and abdomen, Copeland issued a statement Thursday vowing to come back a better player, reports ESPN New York.

"I just want to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers," Copeland said. "I'm overwhelmed with the outpouring of support. I look forward to coming back stronger than ever. Thank you."

Copeland is currently in a New York intensive care unit with a punctured diaphragm as a result of the stabbing incident Wednesday morning.

Copeland also issued a statement through the Pacers apologizing for being out at a late hour.

"I want to thank all the fans, friends, teammates, coaches and the Pacers organization for their support and prayers during this time," Copeland said. "I also want to apologize to everyone, particularly the NBA and the Pacers for my bad choice at being out at that time. I am doing as well as can be expected and I will work hard to make a full recovery."

Report: Pacers' Chris Copeland suffered punctured diaphragm

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4/9/2015) Pacers forward Chris Copeland is still in a New York intensive care unit with a punctured diaphragm following his stabbing outside of a nightclub early Wednesday morning, according to the Indianapolis Star

Copeland has been stabilized at Bellevue Hospital.

Copeland underwent surgeries to his abdomen and left elbow after being stabbed in both areas. Shezoy Bleary-Murdock was arrested and charged in the stabbing. Bleary-Murdock is also accused of stabbing Copeland's ex-fiancée Katrine Saltara in the elbow, as well as stabbing his own girlfriend.

There is some worry, the report states, that Copeland's elbow wound could become infected. It was heavily bandaged following surgery.

The Pacers were in town to play the Knicks Wednesday. Indiana won the game 102-86.

Pacers rule Chris Copeland (abdomen) out of Wednesday's game

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(4/8/2015) As expected, Pacers forward Chris Copeland will not be available to play in Wednesday's game at Brooklyn, the team announced.

Copeland is in stable condition at a New York hospital after he was stabbed in the abdomen early Wednesday morning.

The Pacers are 12 1/2-point favorites.

Pacers' Chris Copeland stabbed in abdomen, elbow at NY nightclub

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/8/2015) Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed in the abdomen during an argument at a New York nightclub early Wednesday, police sources told the New York Daily News. Copeland's wife, Katrine Saltara, was also slashed during the incident, which happened shortly before 4 a.m at 1 OAK club.

Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird acknowledged Copeland suffered an injury Wednesday morning before the team confirmed Copeland suffered a knife wound to his left elbow and abdomen. The team said Copeland is in stable condition at a New York hospital.

“We are aware that Chris Copeland was injured early this morning in New York City," Bird said in a statement on the team's website. "We are still gathering information and will update when we know more. Our thoughts are with Chris and those injured.”

An argument erupted as Copeland and the suspect were leaving, sources said. Copeland's attacker -- 22-year-old Shezoy Bleary -- was arrested. Sources said Bleary pulled out a knife and stabbed Copeland, 31, and slashed Saltara, 28, in the arm and leg. A second woman -- 53-year-old Catherine Comani -- that was with Bleary was also slashed in the abdomen, sources added.

Copeland and Saltara were rushed to Bellevue Hospital and were in stable condition. Comani was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital and was also listed as stable.

Also arrested at the scene, according to sources, were Hawks players Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha, who were booked for trying to prevent police from setting up a crime scene. Sefolosha, 30, and Antic, 32, refused to move when police tried to set up a crime scene. They were charged with obstructing governmental administration.

"We are aware of the situation involving Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha this morning," Hawks spokesperson Garin Narain said in a statement to ESPN. "We are in the process of gathering more information and will have further comment at the appropriate time."

Copeland was in New York as the Pacers will play the Knicks on Wednesday. Sefolosha and Antic are also in New York as the Hawks play the Nets on Wednesday.

Pacers' Chris Copeland scores team-high 17 in loss to Bulls

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12/29/2014) Pacers forward Chris Copeland came off the bench to score a team-high 17 points in a 92-90 loss to the Bulls Monday.

Copeland led the Pacers in scoring despite playing only 18 minutes. He made the most of his opportunities, shooting 7 of 10 from the field including 2 of 2 from the 3-point line. The 17 points were the most points Copeland scored since recording 17 against the Heat Nov. 12. He also added five rebounds, one assist and one block.

The Pacers next play Wednesday against the Heat.

Struggling Pacers could be on verge of lineup changes

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/12/2014) Nothing is working these days for the Pacers, losers of six straight and owners of a 7-15 record. So Frank Vogel is considering lineup changes that could result in small forward Chris Copeland and point guard Rodney Stuckey assuming bench roles, according to the Indianapolis Star.

"Our chemistry is not very good with that group," said stalwart starter David West, who scored just two points in a Wednesday night loss to the Clippers. "We've got to work on it. Thank God for those other guys, the second unit guys keeping some of these games close, because we just haven't been able to start the games well. We get down and really put the team in a bad way."

Copeland has started the last four games and hit just 8 of 29 from the field. Stuckey has been far steadier, but is averaging a mere 2.8 assists per game.

Pacers put Chris Copeland back in starting lineup

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(12/4/2014) Pacers small forward Chris Copeland is back in the starting lineup for Thursday's game at Portland. Copeland has scored in double digits in four of his past five games.

Chris Copeland's value will never be higher

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/12/2014) Chris Copeland has been a big part of the Pacers' offense early this season, as they try desperately to stay afloat in the wake of a ton of injuries. He is now 83 percent owned in CBSSports.com leagues, and he might be a sell-high candidate, as I discussed at the Fantasy Basketball Today Blog Wednesday:

"Copeland could barely get off the bench for the Pacers when they were contending for a title, which should tell you all you need to know about what the coaching staff thinks. … [His] role has an expiration date, and Copeland is shooting like he knows it, averaging 16.2 field-goal attempts per-36 minutes.

He has some skills as a scorer, but he doesn't really move the need for the Pacers, and they know it. As soon as David West is back, Copeland's minutes will be halved, at least."

If you could get something of value for Copeland, now is the time to do.

Report: Knicks, Pacers discussing J.R. Smith-Chris Copeland swap

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/3/2014) The Knicks and Pacers have discussed a potential deal that would send forward Chris Copeland to New York in exchange for guard J.R. Smith, per the New York Post on Monday.

Copeland had a stint with the Knicks earlier in his career before signing with the Pacers in the offseason. Copeland has an expiring deal, while Smith can opt out of the $6.4 million he has coming in 2015-16.

According to the paper, the Knicks won't make any moves until Dec. 15, when 2014 free-agent signees and 2014 draft picks are eligible to be traded.

Chris Copeland earns rare playing time

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/5/2014) Pacers forward Chris Copeland appeared in his first game in more than a week Wednesday against the Bobcats, after four straight DNP's.

Copeland played just 12 minutes late in a 109-87 loss, and wasted little time filling it up in his rare bit of playing time. He scored 11 points on 3 of 5 shooting, with all of his attempts coming from three-point range. Copeland also added two rebounds, while turning the ball over twice in the 109-87 loss.

Copeland was supposed to help buoy a weak bench, but he has been almost entirely a nonfactor for the Pacers this season. Copeland has scored in double figures just twice while averaging just 3.3 points in 26 games.

Pacers reserves see some late run

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/16/2014) The Pacers cleared the bench Thursday, in a blowout win over the Knicks.

With the game clearly in hand, little-used reserves Chris Copeland, Donald Sloan, Orlando Johnson and Rasual Butler all saw playing time. Copeland was the most productive of the four, finishing with four points and four rebounds in five minutes of action, while Sloan and Johnson added two points apiece. Butler was scoreless on three field-goal attempts in five minutes.

The Pacers have a pretty set rotation, so these four rarely see the floor. Though all four have appeared in each of the last three games, none have played double-digit minutes in that span.

Chris Copeland still looking for a role

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/25/2013) Pacers forward Chris Copeland continues to see just limited playing time, as he earned a DNP Coach's Decision in Monday's win over the Timberwolves. Copeland has played in just eight of the Pacers' 14 games, averaging 3.9 points and 0.3 rebounds per game.

Chris Copeland stays limited in preseason opener

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/5/2013) Pacers forward Chris Copeland, who had his knee scoped last month and dealt with knee issues all last year, logged only three minutes in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bulls. He finished with four points and a steal on 1 of 4 shooting from the field, including 0 of 3 from downtown.

Chris Copeland dealing with knee issue

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10/1/2013) Pacers forward Chris Copeland has said his knee is not where it needs to be at the moment, the team's official site reports. Copeland is still dealing with pain in the knee.

That said, Copeland said he expects to be ready to play when the season opens. Copeland had his knee scoped last month and dealt with knee issues all last year.

Copeland is expected to run with the second unit for the Pacers after playing with New York last season.

Copeland joining the Pacers

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/9/2013) Free agent forward Chris Copeland will reportedly sign a two-year offer sheet worth $6 million with the Pacers when the free-agency period begins, and the Knicks are not expected to match it, according to Yahoo.com. Copeland is a restricted free agent after playing one season with the Knicks as a 28-year-old rookie.

Copeland gets qualifying offer

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/27/2013) The Knicks extended a qualifying offer to Chris Copeland, worthy $988,000, in order to make him a restricted free agent. Copeland is expected to decline that offer to test free agency, looking for a longer-term deal, after making his NBA debut at 28.

Copeland solid in first start

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/12/2013) With all of their other options injured, the Knicks turned to rookie forward Chris Copeland to start at center Thursday against the Bulls. Copeland played 29 minutes in the game and held his won offensively, scoring 14 points on 4 of 14 shooting. He made three 3-pointers, while adding five rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks, in a 118-111 overtime loss.
