Tony Wroten plays well in return

(3/30/2014) 76ers guard Tony Wroten was eased back into action following a three-game absence due to an ankle injury, but he stilled played a big part in ending the team's 26-game losing streak in a 123-98 win over the Pistons Saturday.

Wroten played 21 minutes in his return to action, and played well, all things considered. He scored just six points on 2 of 6 shooting, but added six rebounds and a team-high nine assists, with just one turnover in the blowout win.

Wroten has turned into a very solid option off the bench for the 76ers this season, especially considering the low price they paid to acquire him. He is averaging 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in just 24.9 minutes.

(3/22/2014) 76ers guard Tony Wroten suffered a sprained left ankle Friday against the Knicks, and the injury is expected to keep him out at least a week, the team announced Saturday. Wroten will not travel on an upcoming three-game road trip, so he is out until at least March 29 against the Pistons, when the Sixers return home.

This injury comes at a bad time for Wroten, who is enjoying his best stretch of the season. He is averaging 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 11 March games.

(3/21/2014) 76ers guard Tony Wroten suffered a right ankle sprain in Friday's loss to the Knicks. He was seen in the locker room after the game with crutches, and was unable to put any weight on his injured ankle, The News Journal reports.

He will not travel with the team on their three-game road trip starting Saturday in Chicago. He came in averaging 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 61 games.

(3/19/2014) With James Anderson sidelined by a quad contusion, 76ers guard Tony Wroten received his second start in a row Wednesday against the Bulls.

Anderson played a team-high 43 minutes in his start and recorded his second double-digit scoring game in a row. He scored 17 points on 6 of 16 from the field and could have finished with even more points, but finished a brutal 1 for 6 from the free-throw line. He added six rebounds, seven assists and two steals in the 102-94 loss.

Wroten has played well as the 76ers' sixth man this season, but has really thrived as a starter. In 15 starts, he is averaging 18.2 points and 5.2 assists per game.

Wroten shot 12 of 15 from the floor, missing all two of his 3-point attempts, but converting 6 of 8 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with one rebound, one assist and four steals while logging 31 minutes of game action. He is averaging 16.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists over his last five games.

After a brief three-game scoring slump, Wroten has managed to collect 40 points over the last two games to stay in line with his performace over the first five games of February, when he scored at least 16 points in each. He also tallied five assists, two rebounds and one steal in 30 minutes Monday. Wroten has averaged 13.0 points and 3.2 rebounds over 50 games played.

Wroten played just 18 minutes off the bench despite putting up the high score of the night for the 76ers. He also chipped in four rebounds in the loss. Wroten has averaged 12.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists over 44 games played.

(2/1/2014) 76ers guard Tony Wroten stepped into the starting lineup Saturday against the Pistons, with regular starter Michael Carter-Williams sidelined by a shoulder injury.

Wroten played 35 minutes in his start and led the team in scoring with 18 points. Unfortunately, he wasn't particularly efficient on his way there, shooting just 8 of 19 and missing all three of his 3-pointers. He added three rebounds and five assists, but also turned the ball over six times in the 113-96 loss.

Wroten has been terrific in his starting opportunities this season, but pretty pedestrian otherwise. He is averaging 18.4 points in his 12 starts, compared to just 10.2 in his 29 games off the bench.

Wroten went 3 of 8 shooting from the field, missing all three of his attempts from 3-point land, but converting 3 of 4 free throw attempts. He finished the game with nine points, two assists and one rebound while logging 17 minutes of game action. He has averaged 9.9 points in 11 January appearances.

"I don't want to rush any injury," Wroten said. "It's a long season. A sprained ankle, if you don't take care of it, it can go on long in your career. So I'm just taking my time and waiting until I'm back 100 percent."
