Wroten, Carter-Williams both starting for 76ers on Friday

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/21/2014) Though the 76ers have moved high-scoring guard Tony Wroten to the sixth man role to accommodate 2013-14 Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams in their starting lineup, Brett Brown is seeking ways to get both on the court simultaneously, but he wants at least one of them on the court throughout games. Both are set to start Friday night against Phoenix.

"I think for balance purposes, that's how it needs to be," Brown told NBA.com in regard to bringing Wroten off the bench. "Because they are two of our best players, they need to be on the court. ... Inevitably it's the direction we're going to have to grow it."

Wroten and Carter-Williams have improved their outside shooting this season. They combined to hit a meager 24 percent from three-point range last season but are up to a more respectable 31.4 percent this year.

Tony Wroten a sell-high candidate

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/4/2014) You'd be forgiven if you didn't, but anyone who paid attention to the 76ers last season knew Tony Wroten could put up numbers if given the chances. He averaged 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists, so nobody should be surprised by his success with Michael Carter-Williams out.

Carter-Williams' recovery from a shoulder injury carried into the start of the season, giving Wroten the chance to run the team, and he has responded ably. Fantasy owners have to be thrilled with his 19.3 points, 6.8 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game, numbers that put him in pretty elite air for the season's first week. However, be aware that there is an expiration date for his current level of play: Nov. 13.

Carter-Williams should be back then, so now is the time to sell high on Wroten, if you can. Wroten averaged just 11.7 points and 4.4 assists per game over the final 10 games of the season last year while coming off the bench for Carter-Williams. Wroten won't be useless with Carter-Williams around, but there's only one ball, and both players need it.

If you can get a long-term starter at center or forward for Wroten, it makes a lot of sense to consider moving him right now.

Promising trio have options picked up by 76ers

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/31/2014) The 76ers have picked up the options on standouts Michael Carter-Williams, Nerlens Noel and Tony Wroten, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. All three will remain in the fold through next season.

The threesome have shown potential either at the college or NBA levels. Carter-Williams last year became only the second NBA rookie to lead all first-year players in scoring, assists and rebounds. Noel, still a prized rookie after sitting out last year while nursing a knee injury, debuted Wednesday with six points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Wroten averaged 17.8 points and 5.1 assists in 17 games for Philadelphia a season ago.

76ers G Tony Wroten scores team-high 22 in opening loss

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10/29/2014) 76ers guard Tony Wroten scored a team-high 22 points on 9 of 21 shooting while adding eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals in 35 minutes in his team's 103-91 loss to the Pacers in the team's regular-season opener Wednesday.

Wroten figures to get plenty of opportunities to score night in and night out with the 76ers lacking top-level scorers on the roster. He scored 22 points or more just six times in 72 games last season. The 76ers will square off with the Bucks Friday.

76ers G Tony Wroten working on limiting turnovers

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/4/2014) 76ers guard Tony Wroten worked on making better decisions with the ball and preventing turnovers during the offseason, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

In 72 appearances last season, Wroten averaged 13.0 points, 3.2 boards and 3.0 assists while shooting 42.7 percent from the floor and 21.3 percent from downtown. He also averaged 2.8 turnovers per outing.

"I do see an excited, more-committed, sure thinker, because he's gifted physically," head coach Brett Brown said. "The intellect of a point guard and what he has to do to run a young team himself is a tough package. But I think he's been really good."

Michael Carter-Williams itching to be on the court

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/29/2014) 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams told reporters on media day that he could be on the court playing now, despite nursing a shoulder injury, per the Philadelphia inquirer.

"If it was truly up to me I will be on the court right now," Carter-Williams said.

In May, Carter-Williams had surgery to repair the labrum in his right shoulder, a procedure that normally requires two to four months or recovery. Head coach Brett Brown told reporters he expects to give Tony Wroten the starting nod in preseason, leaving Carter-Williams' status for the season opener in jeopardy.

Tony Wroten plays well in return

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/30/2014) 76ers guard Tony Wroten was eased back into action following a three-game absence due to an ankle injury, but he stilled played a big part in ending the team's 26-game losing streak in a 123-98 win over the Pistons Saturday.

Wroten played 21 minutes in his return to action, and played well, all things considered. He scored just six points on 2 of 6 shooting, but added six rebounds and a team-high nine assists, with just one turnover in the blowout win.

Wroten has turned into a very solid option off the bench for the 76ers this season, especially considering the low price they paid to acquire him. He is averaging 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in just 24.9 minutes.
