NBA announces AS skills competition participants

(2/5/2015) On Thursday, the NBA announced the competitors for the Skills Challenge to be held Feb. 14 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as part of the festivities of All-Star Weekend.

Jazz guard and defending champion Trey Burke will be joined by Wizards guard John Wall, Bulls guard Jimmy Butler, Hawks guard Jeff Teague, Raptors guard Kyle Lowry, 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams, Bucks guard Brandon Knight and Suns guard Isaiah Thomas in the skills competition.


Jazz PG Trey Burke scores team-high 21 vs. Grizzlies

(2/4/2015) Jazz point guard Trey Burke scored a team-high 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting, including 3 of 8 shooting from behind the arc, in his team's 100-90 loss to the Grizzlies Wednesday.

Burke turned in his highest point total since Jan. 3 while playing 31 minutes off the bench, but the Jazz still took their fourth loss in the last five games. He also tallied four assists, three rebounds and one steal in 31 minutes. The Jazz will move ahead to face the Suns in Phoenix Friday.


Quin Snyder wants Trey Burke to improve on defense

(2/3/2015) Moved to a reserve role a couple of weeks ago, Jazz guard Trey Burke was told exactly what he needs to do by coach Quin Snyder to compete for the starting role again.

“He told me he needs to see me improve more on defense,” Burke said, via Deseret News.

Snyder said he's been impressed with Burke's willingness to take constructive criticism during some of his struggles this season. Burke was replaced by guard Dante Exum in the starting lineup.

“There’s been a number of times this year where there’s been something that’s happened where I’ve pointed it out, and there’s been consequences,” Snyder said. “Every time that’s happened, he’s thanked me for holding him accountable.”


Rising Stars Challenge participants for All-Star Weekend named

(1/28/2015) The 20 first- and second-year participants for the Rising Stars Challenge held on Feb. 13 during All-Star Weekend have been announced.

The U.S. team will be represented by 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams and forward Nerlens Noel; Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine and forward Shabazz Muhammad; Magic guards Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo; Jazz guard Trey Burke; Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwelll-Pope; Nets center Mason Plumlee; and Hornets center Cody Zeller.

The world team will be represented by Jazz guard Dante Exum and center Rudy Gobert; Bucks guard Giannis Antetokounmpo; Nets guard Bojan Bogdanovic; Hawks guard Dennis Schroder; Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic; Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins and center Gorgui Dieng; Thunder center Steven Adams; and Celtics center Kelly Olynyk.


Jazz guard Trey Burke impresses coach coming off the bench

(1/25/2015) Jazz point guard Trey Burke may be coming off the bench for Utah, but it's not keeping him from being productive. In 26 minutes, Burke scored 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range, in Utah's 108-73 win over the Nets Saturday.

"I was locked in from the start and I was looking at ways to attack the defense before I even got out there," Burke said.

Coach Quin Snyder said he was able to anchor the defense well Saturday.

"He is one of the guys that's finding a good balance between scoring and playmaking," Snyder said. "The other thing I thought he did is he guarded. When your point guard is at the point of the attack, is tough-minded defensively and willing to talk, that anchors your whole defense."

In two straight games coming off the bench, Burke is averaging 14.5 points 2.5 assists and two rebounds.


Jazz guard Dante Exum getting the start on Thursday

(1/22/2015) Jazz guard Dante Exum will get the start on Thursday against the Bucks, the team announced. 

The move is somewhat surprising, as starter Trey Burke is healthy. In 42 games this season, Exum has averaged 4.7 points and 2.0 assists. Coach Quin Snyder said he made the move in order to give the team a jolt, according to the Salt Lake Tribune


Jazz G Trey Burke will play Wednesday; Enes Kanter ruled out

(1/7/2015) The Jazz announced guard Trey Burke (illness) will be available to play Wednesday at Chicago, while center Enes Kanter (ankle) has been ruled out.

Burke missed Monday’s loss to the Pacers while dealing with strep throat. It will be the third straight game Kanter has missed while dealing with an ankle sprain. Center Rudy Gobert has been starting in Kanter’s place.

The Jazz are 10 1/2-point underdogs.


Jazz unveil injury report for Chicago game

(1/6/2015) The Jazz will be without guards Rodney Hood (foot) and Patrick Christopher (kneecap) for Wednesday's game against the Bulls, according to the Deseret News. Hood and Christopher did not travel with the team and will miss Utah's three-game road trip. Trey Burke (illness) was upgraded to probable, while Enes Kanter (ankle) was labeled doubtful.

Utah is a 9 1/2-point underdog at Chicago.


Favors, Hayward shoulder scoring load in loss to Indiana

(1/6/2015) With guard Trey Burke (strep throat) and center Enes Kanter (sprained ankle) sidelined, Jazz forwards Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward shouldered the scoring load in Monday's loss to Indiana.

Favors led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 10 of 16 from the floor, and 7 of 10 from the charity stripe. He also added one assist, two blocks and one steal while logging 43 minutes of game action. He has doubled up 10 times this season.

Hayward scored 24 points and grabbed seven boards while shooting 6 of 17 from the floor. He missed all five of his attempts from downtown, but knocked down 12 of 13 free throw attempts. He added three assists and one block while logging 42 minutes of game action in a 105-101 defeat.

Burke topped the 26-point effort he posted on Tuesday thanks to an excellent and efficient shooting performance. He also racked up six rebounds, six assists and one steal in 39 minutes of action in the win. The Jazz will move on to face the Pacers Monday.

(1/2/2015) Jazz point guard Trey Burke scored eight points on just 2 of 19 shooting, including 0 of 11 shooting from behind the arc, in his team's 98-92 loss to the Hawks Friday.

It's the second time this season a player has taken at least 19 shots from the field while making no more than two of them, with 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams going 2 for 20 last weekend. It's just the second time in the last 30 seasons that a player has taken at least 11 three-pointers without making one, per Basketball Reference.

Burke did manage to kick in five assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block in 39 minutes. He'll be looking for a rebound performance Saturday against the Timberwolves.

It was Burke's highest point total of the season. He has performed well against Minnesota in his two years in the league, averaging 18.4 points per game.

He also had six assists and four rebounds for Utah.

Burke scored a team-high 23 points on 9 of 15 shooting, including 5 of 8 from 3-point land. He did all of his damage in 38 minutes of game action, also adding four assists and two rebounds. He is averaging 11.0 points, 4.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds over his last five games.

Burke managed to score 13 points on 5 of 11 from the floor, including 3 of 8 from downtown. Two of his three treys came in the third quarter. He also contributed with three assists and one rebound while logging 27 minutes of game action.

Burke has averaged 8.8 points, 4.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds over his last five games played. His status remains uncertain for Utah's next game on Tuesday against the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Burke added six assists and three rebounds before fouling out. He has averaged 13.1 points and 5.7 assists over 34 games played.
