Rockets expect PG Isaiah Canaan to play Wednesday

(12/17/2014) The Rockets expected point guard Isaiah Canaan to play against the Nuggets Wednesday, the team announced.

Canaan has missed the last seven games with an ankle injury. He has averaged 9.6 points and 1.7 assists in 14 games.

(12/16/2014) Rockets guard Isaiah Canaan and forward Kostas Papanikolaou have been upgraded to questionable for Wednesday's game against the Nuggets. Francisco Garcia and Terrence Jones will be out.

Canaan, who was able to return to practice Monday, has missed the Rockets last nine games with an ankle injury, while Papanikolaou has missed the last four with a knee injury.

Canaan, who was able to practice Monday,  has missed the Rockets last seven games with an ankle injury. He is averaging 9.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game this year. 


Trevor Ariza among probable Rockets for Denver game

(12/13/2014) Rockets guard Trevor Ariza has been listed as probable for Saturday's game against the Nuggets, despite nursing a bruised right knee, reports the Houston Chronicle. Ariza is averaging 14.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists through 22 games played. His big man, Dwight Howard (knee) was also upgraded to probable.

Meanwhile, Isaiah Canaan (ankle), Francisco Garcia (ankle), Kostas Papanikolaou (knee) and Terrence Jones (knee) will remain sidelined against Denver.

(12/12/2014) The Rockets will be without Isaiah Canaan, Francisco Garcia, Kostas Papanikolaou and Terrence Jones for Saturday's game against the Nuggets.

Canaan was hoping to play Saturday, but has been ruled out with an ankle injury. Garcia is also dealing with an ankle injury. 

Papanikolaou and Jones are still expected to miss a bit more time.

(12/12/2014) Rockets point guard Isaiah Canaan participated in pregame drills Thursday in hopes of being cleared to return from a sprained ankle Saturday, the Houston Chronicle reports.

"We still have to see what J.B. (Jason Biles, the Rockets head athletic trainer) thinks, but it’s a few days before the next game so it (returning to the court) is right around the corner," Canaan said. "I kind of stepped it up. I did a little bit back at home, but not so much moving. These next few days I want to do a lot more to see how it really is."

Canaan won't have an opportunity to practice before Saturday's game, so the team may decide to keep him out this weekend in order to see how his ankle responds to a full practice session. He's been sidelined since suffering the injury Nov. 28.

(12/11/2014) Rockets guards Isaiah Canaan (ankle) and Francisco Garcia (ankle) will not play Thursday against the Kings, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Canaan and Garcia join Dwight Howard (knee), Kostas Papanikolaou (knee) and Terrence Jones (knee) on the sidelines. James Harden and Joey Dorsey also appear on the team's injury report but neither will miss Thursday's game.

(12/6/2014) Rockets point guard Isaiah Canaan was ruled out for Saturday's game against Phoenix with an ankle injury, reports the Houston Chronicle. Canaan will now have missed four consecutive games. He's averaging 9.6 points through 14 appearances.

His next chance to return will come Wednesday at Golden State.

(12/1/2014) The Rockets are not expecting have center Dwight Howard (knee), forward Terrence Jones (knee) and guards Patrick Beverley (hamstring) and Isaiah Cannan (ankle) Wednesday against the Grizzlies. 

Howard is listed as doubtful while Jones, Beverley and Cannan have already been ruled out. Howard has missed the last six games, while Beverley has missed the last four. Jones has been out since Nov. 4 and is not expected back for at least a week.

Beverley is dealing with a hamstring injury. He's missed three games due to the injury, and will not travel with the team for Saturday's game. Canaan left Friday's game with an ankle injury. He was spotted in a walking boot and on crutches after the game.

(11/26/2014) Rockets point guard Isaiah Canaan scored 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting, including 6 of 10 shooting from three-point range, in his team's 102-89 win over the Kings Wednesday.

Canaan played 32 minutes with Patrick Beverley sidelined and took advantage of the opportunity, also racking up six rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win. He hadn't made more than three three-pointers in a game this season before doubling his season high Wednesday. The Rockets are set to face the Clippers Friday.

(11/2/2014) With Patrick Beverly sidelined, the Rockets gave guard Isaiah Canaan the start over Jason Terry Saturday night against the Celtics. Coach Kevin McHale told reporters he had Terry come off the bench because he wanted to keep his minutes limited.

"I try to keep Jet's (Terry's) time down some, so if he starts, time seems to get away from me a lot quicker," McHale said, per the Associated Press. '"We'll bring in Jet as needed for balance."

Canaan finished with nine points on 3 of 11 shooting from the field, adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals while logging 35 minutes of game action. Terry finished with seven points on 2 of 5 shooting and 1 of 1 from the charity stripe while logging 23 minutes off the bench in a 104-90 victory.


Rockets reserves play in garbage time

(1/18/2014) A trio of little-used reserves saw the floor for the Rockets Saturday, in a blowout win over the Bucks.  

Guard Isaiah Canaan and forwards Robert Covington and Ronnie Brewer each appeared for the final minute of a 114-104 win, with Canaan scoring the only two points among the three. Covington was making his first career NBA appearance.

The Rockets' injury woes are getting worse before they get better, with two more players leaving Saturday's game due to injury. Canaan, a rookie out of Murray State, has yet to appear in a game for the Rockets.

(10/16/2013) Rockets rookie guard Isaiah Canaan is still looking for his first NBA points, as he was held scoreless for the fourth preseason game in a row Wednesday. Canaan played six minutes against the Magic, going 0 for 1 with two assists.

Canaan, a second-round pick out of Murray State, is unlikely to earn a big spot in the rotation, given the team's depth at point guard.
