Allen Crabbe could get start for Trail Blazers in Game 1

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4/17/2015) Shooting guard Allen Crabbe could get the call to start the first game of the Trail Blazers' playoff series against Memphis, per Oregon Live.

Assuming Arron Afflalo remains out with a shoulder injury, coach Terry Stotts likes Crabbe's fit in the lineup better than C.J. McCollum, who started the last three games of the season.

"I think Allen complements Damian (Lillard) and (LaMarcus Aldridge)," Stotts said, "as far as being defensive minded, not needing shots, not needing the ball."

"We need to be good at both ends of the court and it needs to mesh at both ends of the court," Stotts added. "And Allen brings a defensive mindset. And I think you've seen he's shooting the ball with confidence. It's not like he can't play offense. There are players in the league who come in and they're strictly defenders. But he was a scorer in college and he can help us at the offensive end. I think he plays off the ball a little bit more, whereas CJ plays with the ball. I think it's all about trying to maximize what each guy can bring."

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com

Allen Crabbe fighting for a role

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/13/2013) Trail Blazers rookie Allen Crabbe, a rookie selected with the first pick of the second round in this year's draft, has a chance to earn a rotation spot this season. Thanks to an injury suffered by fellow rookie CJ McCollum, Crabbe could come off the bench this season and provide some shooting and defense for a unit that really struggled a year ago.

"Allen's had a very good camp, particularly at the defensive end," coach Terry Stotts told The Oregonian. "He makes a lot of good defensive reads. He understands what we want to get done within our defensive concepts. Obviously when we drafted him, he was known as a shooter and a scorer. But I think what he’s done defensively has probably been the most impressive part so far."

Crabbe is battling with Will Barton for a spot in the rotation. Barton got the start in Friday's preseason game against the Jazz, and Crabbe struggled coming off the bench. He scored just two points on 1 of 6 shooting. Crabbe is shooting 39.1 percent from the field in three preseason games, while averaging 7.3 points per game.
