(1/30/2015) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng scored 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting while racking up 10 rebounds in his team's 103-94 loss to the 76ers Friday.

The double-double was the seventh in 16 January games for Dieng. He also blocked three shots for the third consecutive game while kicking in two assists and two steals in 32 minutes. He'll match up with the Cavaliers Saturday.

(1/28/2015) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng posted a double-double on Wednesday against the Celtics.

Dieng shot 6-11 from the field. He sunk four of his five free throws, finishing with 16 points. Dieng was a monster on the boards during the contest, pulling down 14 rebounds. Twelve of those came on the defensive side of the court. Dieng also added three blocks. 


Rising Stars Challenge participants for All-Star Weekend named

(1/28/2015) The 20 first- and second-year participants for the Rising Stars Challenge held on Feb. 13 during All-Star Weekend have been announced.

The U.S. team will be represented by 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams and forward Nerlens Noel; Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine and forward Shabazz Muhammad; Magic guards Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo; Jazz guard Trey Burke; Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwelll-Pope; Nets center Mason Plumlee; and Hornets center Cody Zeller.

The world team will be represented by Jazz guard Dante Exum and center Rudy Gobert; Bucks guard Giannis Antetokounmpo; Nets guard Bojan Bogdanovic; Hawks guard Dennis Schroder; Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic; Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins and center Gorgui Dieng; Thunder center Steven Adams; and Celtics center Kelly Olynyk.

(1/26/2015) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds in Minnesota's 92-84 loss to the Thunder Monday. Dieng added six points on 3 of 8 shooting from the field.

Dieng reached 20-plus rebounds twice last season, but had yet to reach 18 this year. He added three blocks and two assists on the night.

Dieng was one of six Minnesota players to score in double digits Friday, but none managed to collect more than 15 points, leading to the team's third straight loss. Dieng also chipped in three assists and one block in 35 minutes. The Timberwolves are set to face the Hawks Sunday.

(1/5/2015) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng matched a career high with 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough Monday night against the Nuggets.

Dieng knocked down 8 of 12 shots and went a perfect 6 of 6 from the charity stripe. He also contributed with three blocks and two steals while logging 35 minutes of game action in a 110-101 defeat.

Dieng has cracked the 20-point mark twice this season, all of which have come over the past seven games. He is averaging 13.9 points and 9.1 boards over that stretch.

(12/31/2014) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng is dealing with a minor ankle injury, but that has not sidelined or even limited him. He racked up eight points, six rebounds, six assists and two blocks Tuesday night against Utah.

Dieng has been a pleasant surprise. He's averaging 9.3 points and 8.1 rebounds in 28.4 minutes per game.

(12/3/2014) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng scored a season-high 15 points on 6 of 12 shooting while racking up a season-high 16 rebounds in his team's 85-77 loss to the 76ers Wednesday.

The Timberwolves became the first team to drop a game to the 76ers this season, but Dieng performed admirably, playing a season-high 41 minutes with Nikola Pekovic out. He also managed two assists and two steals in the loss, which dropped the Timberwolves to 4-13. They'll look to bounce back Friday against the Rockets.

(11/23/2014) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng scored 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds in his team's 113-101 loss to the Kings Saturday.

It was just the second double-double of the season for Dieng, though he did manage 10 rebounds Friday as well while scoring nine points. His 12 points and 10 rebounds both matched season highs. Dieng also managed two steals, two blocks and one assist in 39 minutes Saturday. He'll look to build on the solid performance Wednesday against Milwaukee.

(11/18/2014) Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said center Nikola Pekovic suffered a sprained wrist in Saturday's game against the Mavs and will be out until at least next week, according to The Star Tribune. Center Gorgui Dieng will start in Pekovic's absence.

Pekovic is expected to miss games Wednesday (vs. New York), Friday (vs. San Antonio) and Saturday (vs. Sacramento).

Dieng played 25 minutes off the bench while setting a season high in both points and rebounds en route to his first double-double. He also chipped in two blocks, two steals and one assist. While he's unlikely to find consistent production in a reserve role, Dieng will look for another nice performance Saturday against the Heat.

Dieng has a right thumb contusion. X-rays came back negative on the injury, and Dieng is expected to return. Dieng hit his only shot in seven minutes before leaving.

(10/28/2014) Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said he expects to see a more confident player in center Gorgui Dieng in 2014-15, especially on the offensive end of the court, per The Star Tribune. Dieng averaged 4.8 points per game as a rookie in 2013-14.

"He’s more confident in what he’s doing," Saunders said. "He’s a little more assertive offensively. He’s just going to look more comfortable when he’s out there. The leap [from the first season to the second season] is astronomical."

Dieng scored 5 of 10 from the floor, and 1 of 2 from the free throw line. He grabbed 17 boards, seven of which came from the offensive end of the glass. He also chipped in with one assists and one steal while logging 37 minutes of game action.

All four of his double-doubles have come over his last five games. He is averaging 12.2 points and 13.8 rebounds over that span.

(3/20/2014) Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng got the starting nod for the third consecutive game on Thursday, posting his third straight double-double with a dominant 22-21 line -- all career highs -- in a 129-106 loss to the Rockets.

Dieng shot 6 of 16 from the floor, and got the the free throw line 11 times, converting 10 of his attempts from the charity stripe. He also chipped in with four assists and one steal while logging 38 minutes of game action.

Dieng is filling in for an injured Nikola Pekovic (ankle), and is expected to return to the bench once Pekovic is healthy. Dieng is averaging 14.7 points and 14.3 rebounds over his last three games.

Deng played eight minutes before exiting with the injury, scoring four points and tallying three rebounds, two steals and one block.

Appearing in his third game in the last four, Dieng played 10 minutes, his highest total in more than a month. He scored four points on 2 of 2 shooting, with four rebounds and one block in the 98-72 win.

Dieng has appeared in just 22 of the team's 40 games this season, averaging 1.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.

Dieng had been a fouling machine through his first three games, committing 10 fouls in 23 minutes of play. However, the rookie didn't commit a single foul Sunday while grabbing two rebounds.
