Jazz's Snyder hopes for improved offense from Rudy Gobert

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(6/7/2015) Jazz coach Quin Snyder is happy with the progress Rudy Gobert made this year, but he hopes to see him take his offense to another level.

"The thing you get excited about with Rudy, in addition to his intelligence and his physical gifts, is his competitiveness," Snyder said, per the Salt Lake Tribune. "He'll improve. It's a little bit like our team. … Rudy's got time. It's a matter of getting a foundation and taking one step at a time. You saw what he did with his free throws last year. You saw what he did with his passing. His body's going to get better. Rudy's got so many areas where he's capable of improving that it's exciting. But it's hard to do them all at once. I don't want him to get ahead of himself."

Gobert feels certain he can step up his game.

"I'm more confident," he said. "Really in the first season and early last season, I wasn't really trying anything offensively. Now I can really work on my game and try to show it on the floor."

"You see those things every game and tonight there were more of them," coach Quin Snyder said after the game, per the Associated Press. "He's working at it. ... Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert emerge as elite Fantasy plays

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/13/2015) At the Fantasy Basketball Today blog, I wrote about the development of Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors since the team decided to build around them at the trade deadline:

"In 11 games since the All-Star break, both Favors and Gobert have looked like elite Fantasy options while anchoring the league's stingiest defense. Gobert rates out as the No. 2 center in Rotisserie leagues over the last three weeks thanks to his gaudy rebounding and defensive stats, and Favors comes in at No. 4, ahead of names like Andre Drummond and Marc Gasol. Could the Jazz have two early-round Fantasy picks in their frontcourt next season?

Favors is the more known quantity of the two, and his development has followed a relatively smooth progression. He has increased his scoring in each season in the NBA, while also seeing his True Shooting percentage, usage and per-minute scoring numbers all increase on a nearly yearly basis.

....

Since the Jazz decided to move Kanter at the deadline, Gobert has been playing like a first-round Fantasy pick. He is averaging 10.5 points, 14.1 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 3.1 blocks per game, numbers that are basically unheard of in the modern NBA. No player has averaged 10-plus points, 14-plus rebounds, one-plus steals and three-plus blocks per game since 1989-90, and the four players who did so for an entire season are all in the Hall-of-Fame: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bob McAdoo, Hakeem Olajuwon and Bill Walton. Gobert probably isn't a hall-of-famer in the making, but he's hanging out in some rarified air right now."

Both players look like must-start Fantasy options for the rest of the season, and might have top-three round value in keeper leagues at the pace they are on.

Jazz C Rudy Gobert doubles up in first quarter of Thursday's win

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/13/2015) Jazz center Rudy Gobert scored a career-high 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting while hauling in 22 rebounds in his team's 109-91 win over the Rockets Thursday.

Gobert started the game in rare form, delivering 10 points and 10 rebounds by the end of the first quarter. The center slowed down in the second half but still finished with his second game with at least 15 points and 20 rebounds this month. He also chipped in four blocks.

"He was really good tonight," coach Quin Snyder said after the game, per the Associated Press. "I've been as hard on Rudy lately as anybody. He's great. He's tough-minded. He knows I want him to be better."

Gobert also played with a limp for part of the game after suffering an ankle injury.

"I just sprained it," Gobert said after the game, per the Salt Lake Tribune. "I tried to play through it. I am just going to ice it and I think I will be good in a few days."

The Jazz take a four-game winning streak into Saturday's matchup with the Pistons.

Jazz to keep center Enes Kanter in starting role

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1/21/2015) Jazz coach Quin Snyder was emphatic starting center Enes Kanter will remain in his role, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

With Rudy Gobert playing well while Kanter was sidelined, Snyder has repeatedly been asked about the starting role and he said nothing will change.

"We have a starting lineup. Enes has been the starter. Rudy comes off the bench," Snyder said. "That's not something I believe in toying with."

Snyder added that he's been pleased with Kanter's play and his role will not be diminished

"Enes has been terrific," he said. "He's a big part of what we do and we need him to play well."

Enes Kanter replacing Rudy Gobert in Jazz starting lineup

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/13/2015) Jazz coach Quinn Synder said center Enes Kanter is returning to the starting lineup Tuesday against the Warriors and center Rudy Gobert will return to a reserve role. Synder said the reason for the change is because players don't lose starting jobs because of injury, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Kanter missed four games due to an ankle injury before returning to action Saturday against the Rockets. He had 16 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes. While he was able to make his return, Kanter said his ankle won't be 100 percent for a long time, reports the Deseret News.

"I can't just wait for it to be 100 percent," Kanter said. "I'm just going to go out there and play."

Utah is an 11 1/2-point underdog at Houston.
