Shabazz Muhammad starting to open eyes

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/1/2014) Timberwolves forward Shabazz Muhammad has put up some interesting stat lines this season, and might be someone Fantasy owners in deeper leagues want to begin targeting as a waiver-wire flier.

Muhammad dropped 28 points in Sunday's loss to the Trail Blazers, his second game with double digits in scoring over the last five. Muhammad scored in double figures in five of the team's 13 November games, and averaged 9.9 points in just 15.5 minutes of action, on 51.0 percent shooting.

Muhammad has nearly played as many minutes this season as he did throughout his rookie season, and he appears to be progressing nicely. He lacks outside range from the perimeter, but has made up for that by bullying his way to the rim. 40.9 percent of Muhammad's shots have come within three feet of the rim, and he is also drawing tons of free throws, which helps make up for his lack of outside shooting.

Muhammad has found playing time tough to come by on a consistent basis, but he has been productive enough that the Wolves should give him a further look. If he can emerge as a priority, he seems skilled enough to score in double figures on a consistent basis, so keep an eye on his playing time moving forward, especially given how many injuries the team has suffered.

Muhammad earned some extra work with Andrew Wiggins dealing with an illness Sunday and playing just 18 minutes. The second-year player easily eclipsed his high of 20 points from his rookie season thanks to a fantastic shooting performance while taking a season-high 17 shots from the field. Muhammad also racked up five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 30 minutes off the bench. He could receive another chance at extended minutes if Wiggins is still under the weather Monday against the Clippers.

Shabazz Muhammad exits game with knee injury

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/4/2014) Timberwolves rookie forward Shabazz Muhammad suffered a knee injury during Friday's double-overtime thriller against Miami.

Muhammad was limited to just three minutes before exiting the game and not returning. He finished with one point on 0 of 1 from the floor, and 1 of 2 from the free throw line. He came in averaging just 3.9 points in 36 appearances. His status remains up in the air for Saturday against Orlando.

Shabazz Muhammad comes up big in win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(2/26/2014) Timberwolves rookie forward Shabazz Muhammad has been playing more recently, and finally took advantage with a career-best performance in a 110-101 win over the Suns Tuesday.

Muhammad played just 24 minutes in the win, but that was enough to drop a career-high 20 points. He shot 8 for 13 from the field and 4 for 6 at the free-throw line, while adding six rebounds, one assist and two steals in the win.

Muhammad has been little more than a role player even in the 21 games he has appeared in this season, despite being the No. 14 overall pick in the most recent draft. He is averaging 3.2 points per game.
