by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/21/2014) 76ers forward Nerlens Noel, who has been sidelined since last week with an upper respiratory infection, was able to practice Tuesday. Coach Brett Brown said Noel should be available to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Pistons.

Upper respiratory infection keeps Nerlens Noel out Saturday

(10/18/2014) The 76ers will be without the services of center Nerlens Noel on Saturday against the Magic because of an upper respiratory infection, according to the team's official website.

Noel has missed back-to-back preseason games due to the ailment. He's appeared in three preseason games, scoring in double figures in two of them. He should be over the illness in time for the season opener on Oct. 29 at Indiana.

(10/10/2014) Philadelphia center Nerlens Noel will not play Friday against Minnesota.

Noel is dealing with a right thigh injury. The team described his absence as a precautionary measure.

Nerlens Noel encourages 76ers with Wednesday effort

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/9/2014) Rookie center Nerlens Noel bounced back from a poor performance Monday to excel Wednesday night for the 76ers against Charlotte. He recorded game-highs of nine rebounds and three blocks while scoring 10 points and adding three assists.

"I felt more comfortable tonight," Noel told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I'm still not where I want to be. I have to continue working and get a feel for the offense more, actually playing against other NBA players."

Brett Brown agreed with that assessment.

"I think the game slowed down for him tonight - that let him play well. "You could see signs of how I could use him better, and how he could slowly inch along and continue to progress."

Noel is coming off a torn ACL that had his readiness for this season in doubt.

Nerlens Noel ready to be a game changer on defense

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/29/2014) The 76ers are not going to have a lot of options this season. Their roster is made up mostly of castoffs, D-League players and guys working on unguaranteed contracts. One exception is Nerlens Noel, the organizations' crown jewel, who missed all of his rookie season while recovering from a knee injury.

Coach Brett Brown told reporters last weekend that the team is not expected to give Noel any minute or game restrictions as he gets set to make his NBA debut. Of course, that might happen naturally, as young big men tend to be foul-prone in general -- Noel averaged 3.4 fouls per game in just 25.8 minutes per game in five Summer League contests.

So, Noel probably won't average 30 minutes per night as a rookie, even if the team doesn't put a hard limit on his playing time. That might not matter all that much, as he will get the chance to put up big numbers anyways. Noel might not be much of a scorer out of the gate, but he seems likely to rack up big steal, block and rebound numbers on a team that maintained by far the fastest pace in the league a year ago.

Earlier in the offseason, I ranked Noel 33rd in my keeper league rankings, and he would be even higher if not for his injury concerns. Noel should be a game changer on defense, and is worth targeting in all formats as a No. 2 center.

Nerlens Noel not expected to have any restrictions this season

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/27/2014) The 76ers are not expected to have any restrictions for center Nerlens Noel, who is entering his rookie season, head coach Brett Brown told the Philadelphia Inquirer Saturday. Noel missed the 2013-14 season after tearing his ACL in his freshman year at Kentucky.

"We're going into it very open," Brown said, "and then just being smart with him as the season unfolds in regards to playing time."

Nerlens Noel gets through first summer-league game

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/5/2014) 76ers center Nerlens Noel shined in his Orlando Summer League debut Saturday, his first game action since tearing his ACL as a freshman in college.

Noel played 26 minutes in the exhibition game against the Magic, and looked dominant at times against rookies and other fringe NBA players. He scored 19 points on 6 of 11 shooting, with two rebounds, three assists and four steals. Noel also went 7 for 7 from the free-throw line, a promising sign after he shot just 52.9 percent from the free-throw line at Kentucky.

Nerlens Noel has been '100 percent for months'

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/31/2014) 76ers center Nerlens Noel told the Boston Globe he has been "100 percent for months" and is expected to make his debut in the NBA's Orlando Summer League, which starts July 5. It will be his first action in the league and his first action since having ACL surgery.

"I've been 100 percent for months now," Noel said. "I feel great and continue to get stronger in all parts of my body, just continuing my growth really. I will be playing in summer games and summer league."

Sixers coach sets "realistic" goal for Nerlens Noel

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/11/2014) 76ers coach Brett Brown told the Delaware County Daily Times Tuesday he has "purposefully ignored" Nerlens Noel's recent tweet indicating that he has a target date set for his return from a torn ACL, and suggested some other more realistic games for Noel's future. He said he thinks Noel can participate in 5-on-5 full-court work by the end of the season, but did not indicate that he expects Noel to play this season.

Noel has progressed to 4-on-4 halfcourt work and one-on-one drills as part of his recovery, but there remains no timetable for him to possible return.

Nerlens Noel targeting April 4 debut

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/10/2014) 76ers center Nerlens Noel is hoping to make his 76ers debut on April 4 against Boston, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. However, he had not disclosed that target debut date with the team as of Sunday afternoon and may be held out of action altogether this season.

Noel has been out since February 2013 after tearing his ACL with the University of Kentucky. He has yet to participate in 5-on-5 activities at practice but has been gradually increasing his activity on the court.

Nerlens Noel posts cryptic tweet possibly hinting debut

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/9/2014) 76ers center Nerlens Noel hinted a debut on April 4 against the Celtics in Boston by tweeting "4-4-14" on his social media account Sunday.

Noel is recovering from a torn ACL, which he suffered in his lone season at the University of Kentucky. Noel wasn't really expected to play this season, but was never officially ruled out for the remainder of the season. The 76ers are 15-47 on the year and will likely not rush him back into action unless he's absolutely healthy and physically ready to return.

Nerlens Noel goes above the rim after practice

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2/6/2014) 76ers center Nerlens Noel was spotted taking jumpers and dunking at the end of Thursday's practice session, according to the Delaware County Daily Times. Although the rookie still has a long way to go in his recovery from ACL surgery, head coach Brett Brown has yet to rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Nerlens Noel cleared for basketball-related activities

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1/15/2014) 76ers center Nerlens Noel has been cleared by Dr. James Andrews to resume basketball-related activities, ESPN.com reports.

If Noel doesn't suffer a setback, he could be cleared for game action in the next four-to-six weeks, though the team itself hasn't publicly set a timetable on his return. Noel wasn't expected to play at all this year after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Nerlens Noel needs 'total rebuild' of shot

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(11/6/2013) Philadelphia 76ers center Nerlens Noel, who still does not expect to play this season after ACL surgery, apparently has a lot to work on for his game, the Delco Daily Times reports. Coach Brett Brown said Noel needs a "total rebuild" of his shot mechanics.

"We're really trying to go back to a lot of one-handed shooting," said Brown. "I can sense [Noel] is shooting with two hands behind my back. What happens is the off-hand comes in and the elbows start coming out. When he goes one-handed, he gets the elbow under it and he gets a good-looking shot. He can't get his guide hand on the ball. It just sends it all over the place."

Nerlens Noel not expected to play this year

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10/21/2013) Philadelphia coach Brett Brown reiterated Monday that he does not believe center Nerlens Noel will play this season following knee surgery, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

The 76ers want to take it easy on Noel and he will likely not have an established timetable to return for some time. Noel may not debut until the 2014-15 season at this point.

Noel unlikely to make debut until '14

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/25/2013) When the 76ers acquired center Nerlens Noel out of the University of Kentucky in a Draft Day trade with the Pelicans, they knew he would miss a significant chunk of his rookie season recovering from knee surgery. Now that he has met with the organization's key members, a timeline for his return from a torn ACL is starting to become clear. According to The News Journal, Noel is likely to be out until the end of the 2013 calendar year at the earlier, and general manager Sam Hinkie stressed that he will not be rushed at the possible expense of his long-term health. “Nothing else matters as much as that matters,” Hinkie said. “So as this plays out, we will give him all the resources necessary and all the best medical people we can put in front of him, both here and in Birmingham [Ala.], where he’s been doing his rehab, to try to get him back on the floor, to be the best player he can be for himself and for the Sixers.”
