Hawks G Dennis Schroder plays playoff-low three minutes Sunday

(5/25/2015) Mike Budenholzer has apparently lost confidence in Dennis Schroder, at least if the playoff-low three minutes he gave the Hawks guard Sunday night is any indication.

Schroder played at least 11 minutes in every postseason game. But a need for outside shooting in the absence of Kyle Korver had Budenholzer opting for Shelvin Mack in the taut overtime loss in Cleveland.

Mack performed well, but his two misses on the last possession clinched defeat.

Schroder has hit on just 19 of his last 60 shots in the postseason.

(3/27/2015) Hawks guard Jeff Teague, who hurt his ankle in Wednesday's game against the Magic, will not play Friday against the Heat, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Teague, who turned his left ankle on Wednesday, yet returned to score nine fourth-quarter points, decided he could not go as his ankle remained tender. Dennis Schroder will start in his place. 

"We will just wait and see how it goes and err on the side of caution," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. 

Teague is averaging 16.3 points and 7.0 assists in 65 games this season. 


Hawks G Dennis Schroder gaining confidence

(3/24/2015) Near the end of his second NBA season, Hawks guard Dennis Schroder is gaining confidence in his play with every game, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 

The 21-year-old is averaging 9.7 points and 4.1 assists, but has scored in double figures in 11 of his last 12 contests, including an 18-point, five-assist outing in the Hawks' loss Sunday to the Spurs. 

"He's young and we are still working on it. But at the end of the day, his confidence is something that we love and makes him," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. "The guy has a chance to be special and you don’t want to take that away from him in any way, shape or form."


Hawks' Dennis Schroder scores 21 in loss to Thunder

(3/20/2015) Hawks guard Dennis Schroder scored 21 points during Friday night's 123-115 loss to the Thunder. 

This is the third time Schroder has scored over 20 points in a game and the second time he's done so in the past four games. Schroder made 7 of 14 from the field, which included going 3 of 5 from behind the arc. He made all four of his free-throw attempts. 

Schroder added four assists and three rebounds.

Meanwhile, guard John Jenkins is suffering from a wrist strain, but he is listed as probable for Friday's game.

(2/25/2015) Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder scored a team-high 17 points on 7 of 15 shooting, including 3 of 5 shooting from behind the arc, in his team's 104-87 win over the Mavericks Wednesday.

"People are going to start learning he can shoot the ball and do a lot of things," Hawks center Al Horford said after the game, per the Associated Press.

All five Hawks starters scored in double digits, but it was Schroder who paced the offense while playing 21 minutes off the bench.

"I thought Dennis early, middle and late was a big factor," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. "He hit shots. He guarded. I thought he did a lot of things well. We needed him tonight."

Schroder also dished out four assists in the win, his team's second straight after coming out of the All-Star break with a loss. The Hawks will move ahead to face the Magic Friday.


Hawks' Dennis Schroder to participate in Skills Challenge

(2/12/2015) Hawks guard Dennis Schroder will be a busy man during All-Star Weekend.

Schroder is already participating in Friday's Rising Stars Challenge and was also chosen to participate in Saturday's Skills Competition, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

While the NBA has not officially announced Schroder's participation in the skills contest, he tweeted out that he'll join teammate Jeff Teague in the competition.

"Excited to Compete in the Skills Challenge with My Speed Brother," Schroder tweeted.

(1/19/2015) Hawks guard Dennis Schroder did not play in Saturday's win over the Bulls and coach Mike Budenholzer said Schroder suffered a minor ankle injury in Friday's win over the Raptors, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"Dennis is a little banged up," Budenholzer said. "He tweaked his ankle [Friday]. He was available. It was a tough decision but just thinking big picture and long term we chose to just go with Jeff [Teague] and mix and match a bit in the second half."

Budenholzer added the team expects Schroder to play in Monday's game against the Pistons. In 39 games, Schroder is averaging 8.1 points and 3.2 assists.

The Hawks are 8-point favorites over the Pistons.


Report: Hawks upgrade Jeff Teague to probable vs. Clippers

Schroder, who started in place of injured guard Jeff Teague for the third straight game, shot 9 for 15 from the field and also kicked out six assists.

If Teague is unable to play again Tuesday, Schroder will likely get another chance to start against the Clippers.

The second-year guard from Germany converted 4 of 5 field goal attempts and knocked down 3 of 4 from the charity stripe. He finished the game with 11 points, two assists, one rebound and five steals while logging a season-high 20 minutes of game action.

Schroder combined for only 12 minutes off the bench in his first two appearances. He has logged 34 minutes over his last two games on back-to-back nights.

"My confidence, as I've told you, is through the roof. Coach trusts me now," Schroder said, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "I try to do everything on defense first and help the team get the energy going."

Schroder did not do much in his time Wednesday, and the Hawks were outscored by 14 points in his 17 minutes. He scored just four points on 2 of 3 shooting, and added only one assist and three rebounds.

Schroder has played inconsistent minutes in his rookie season, and hasn't made a good case for much more. He is averaging just 3.6 points and 1.8 assists in 12.8 minutes per game in his 27 appearances.
