Mekel was waived by the Mavericks after the first game of the season, in which he didn't play. He averaged 2.4 points and 2.0 assists in 9.4 minutes per game over 31 contests in his rookie season.

(11/6/2014) With guard Gal Mekel reportedly dealing with VISA issues, the Pacers may turn to former draft pick A.J. Price, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein, of ESPN.

Indiana’s backcourt has been decimated by injury, and the Pacers are in need of a point guard. Price was waived by the Cavaliers Monday and is now a free agent.

Price averaged 7.2 points and 1.5 assists in 13.3 minutes per game during the preseason.

(11/5/2014) Hoping to shore up its depleted backcourt, sources have indicated the Pacers are close to signing guard Gal Mekel, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein, of ESPN.

Mekel was waived Oct. 29 by the Mavericks after signing J.J. Barea.

During the 2013-14 season, Mekel averaged 2.4 points and 2.0 assists over 31 games.

(10/29/2014) The Mavericks are signing guard J.J. Barea Wednesday and have waived Gal Mekel in a corresponding move, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The move has been expected since Monday, when Barea was let go by Minnesota. Owner Mark Cuban had a long meeting with Mekel Monday about the situation. Barea spent his first five seasons with the Mavericks before spending the last three years with Minnesota.

(10/29/2014) Point guard J.J. Barea is expected to sign with the Mavericks if he clears waivers as expected Wednesday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Barea and the Mavericks have mutual interest in a reunion. If he does sign with the team, the Mavericks are expected to trade or waive Gal Mekel. Owner Mark Cuban spoke with Mekel for more than an hour Monday about the situation.

"I told him the exact truth," Cuban said. "I told him we’ve been talking to [Barea] and told him this is what might happen and here’s why and there’s the options you have, and what’s the best option for you in your mind. I wanted to be very communicative with him because he earned it. I have a lot of respect for Gal."

Mekel didn't play in the team's season-opening loss Tuesday.

Mekel has been working his way back from surgery on his meniscus in January. He scored two points while logging five minutes off the bench on March 12, his first appearance since the procedure.

(2/9/2014) Mavericks guard Gal Mekel is expected to go on a rehab assignment with the Texas Legends of the D-League before playing again for Dallas, according to the Star-Telegram. Mekel has been sidelined since Jan. 13 while recovering from arthroscopic right knee surgery he underwent on Jan. 17.He has averaged 2.4 points and 2.1 assists over 30 games played.

"He's making steady progress," head coach Rick Carlisle said. "I would say he’s ahead of schedule based on what the expectations were with the scope."
