Vitor Faverani out 6-8 weeks after undergoing knee surgery

(10/13/2014) Celtics center Vitor Faverani is out six-to-eight weeks after undergoing knee surgery Monday in Spain, CSNNE.com reprots.

Faverani underwent knee surgery in March as well and had been sidelined during camp due to knee issues. Coach Brad Stevens indicated that Monday's procedure was to "clean up some inflammation and also to ... evaluate the meniscus to get another look at the meniscus."

The team could choose to part ways with the big man after the latest development in his ongoing knee issues.

(10/10/2014) Celtics head coach Brad Stevens told reporters he should know more information on center Vitor Faverani injury on Saturday, per the team's official website. Faverani underwent surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee in March. He has essentially missed all of training camp due to knee issues.

(3/7/2014) Celtics center Vitor Faverani underwent season-ending arthroscopy surgery on Friday to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, according to ESPN Boston.

Faverani had been dealing with swelling in his knee since early February. He was averaging 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds over 37 games played for the Celtics this season. He averaged 12.8 points and 9 rebounds over 25 minutes per game in four appearances for the team's D-League affiliate.

(2/26/2014) The Celtics continue to be hit hard by injury, and they will be missing four rotation players for Wednesday against the Hawks. Coach Brad Stevens announced prior to tip that centers Jared Sullinger (concussion), Kelly Olynyk (toe) and Vitor Faverani (knee) and guard Avery Bradley (ankle) are all out for that evening's game as a result of their injury.

The team is off until Saturday when they face the Pacers, given each player two more days to heal before trying to play again.

(1/3/2014) Celtics center Vitor Faverani has been in and out of the rotation this season, and he is currently on a downswing with his minutes. 

He played just nine minutes Thursday against the Bulls, the first time in three games he has appeared. Faverani scored four points on 1 of 5 shooting, and added just one rebound and one steal in the 94-82 loss.

Faverani has appeared in 29 of the team's first 32 games, and has even started eight of them. Despite this, he is averaging just 4.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game.

(11/20/2013) Celtics center Vitor Faverani returned to the starting lineup but failed to make much of a difference in a 109-85 defeat to Houston Tuesday night.

Faverani, who made his first start since Nov. 8, logged 14 minutes -- eight less than Kelly Olynyk -- and went 2 of 6 shooting from the field and 1 of 2 from the charity stripe. He finished the game with five points, five rebounds and a steal.

Faverani has been held under 10 points over his last 10 games played.

(11/16/2013) Celtics center Vitor Faverani drew the start Saturday due to matchup purposes and filled up the stat sheet in 26 minutes of action, scoring nine points on 3 of 7 shooting (including 2 of 4 shooting from three-point range) with 13 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and one assist in his team's 106-88 loss to the Timberwolves.

Faverani posted a season high in steals in the loss. He has averaged 6.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 11 games this season.

(11/9/2013) Celtics rookie Kelly Olynyk earned the start over Vitor Faverani at center during Saturday's win over the Heat.

Olynyk logged 23 minutes of game action while Faverani was limited to only three. Olynyk went 3 of 9 shooting from the field, including 1 of 2 from downtown. He finished the game with seven points, eight rebounds, four assists and one block in a 111-110 victory. Faverani made a dunk in the second quarter for his only points of the game.

Faverani grabbed a career-high 18 boards, six of them coming from the offensive side. He went 4 of 6 shooting from the field and 4 of 6 from the charity stripe. He finished the game with 12 points, six blocks, one assist, one steal while logging 37 minutes of game action.

"Vitor works as hard as anyone on our team. Vitor, along with Rondo, they work at an elite level. It's paying off for Vitor," head coach Brad Stevens said after the game.

(10/24/2013) Just a day after his six-block performance, Celtics center Vitor Faverani sat out Thursday's practice because of a sore back. The move was precautionary, according to head coach Brad Stevens.

Faverani underwent an MRI Thursday, which could determine his status for the team's season opener against Toronto on Oct. 30, ESPN reports. The results are expected to come back Friday.
