Celtics backcourt thrives in Rajon Rondo's absence

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/6/2014) With Rajon Rondo taking the night off to rest, the Celtics got some big contributions from the backcourt in a 115-111 loss to the Pistons Saturday.

Guard Jerryd Bayless led the team in scoring with 25 points on 10 of 19 shooting, with five 3-pointers made. He added four rebounds and three assists, as much of the playmaking was done by Phil Pressey. Pressey recorded the first double-double of his career, scoring 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting and dishing out 11 assists with just one turnover in 36 minutes.

Both players have been sporadically productive, though Bayless has been the more reliable of the two. He is averaging 10.5 points since joining the Celtics, while Pressey is averaging 2.6 points and 2.9 assists per game in his rookie season.

Phil Pressey still receiving spot starts

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3/12/2014) Celtics guard Phil Pressey will start Wednesday against the Knicks, with starter Rajon Rondo still being held out of back-to-back games. Pressey will make his seventh start of the season, and is expected to continue receiving spot start opportunities on the second half of back to backs until Rondo is cleared.

Pressey has played a solid role for an undrafted free agent, but has not done much to stand out as a rookie. He is averaging just 2.3 points and 2.6 assists per game, while shooting an abysmal 28.2 percent from the field.

Phil Pressey steps up in start

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/22/2014) Celtics guard Phil Pressey impressed in a rare start Wednesday against the Wizards, with Rajon Rondo taking the night off to rest as part of his recovery from knee surgery.

Pressey, who entered the game just 6 of 38 on 3-pointers, nearly matched his season total in the course of his second career start. He scored 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting, including a 5-for-6 mark from three-point range. He also added one rebound and four assists, though he also turned the ball over five times in 35 minutes before fouling out.

Pressey has looked solid since seeing an increase in playing time recently. He is averaging 6.0 points and 6.2 assists per game over the last five.

Celtics giving Phil Pressey more run

(1/21/2014) With the trade of Jordan Crawford and Rajon Rondo still on a minute limitation, Celtics backup point guard Phil Pressey has been seeing more playing time recently. Despite playing 22 minutes against the Heat Tuesday, he had his least productive game of the last four, finishing with just two points and three assists in the 93-86 loss.

Pressey is averaging 2.5 points and 6.8 assists per game over the last four since Crawford's trade.

Phil Pressey dishes it out

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/25/2013) Celtics reserve guard Phil Pressey played a big role in Monday's 96-86 win over the Bobcats, as he dished out a career-high eight assists in 20 minutes of action. Pressey did not turn the ball over once amid his flurry of playmaking, though he also scored just two points on 1 of 2 shooting.

Pressey hasn't played much as the team's backup point guard, topping double figures in minutes just twice in the last five games.
