Thunder C Mitch McGary will start against Hawks

(3/20/2015) Thunder rookie center Mitch McGary will get his second start of the season Friday night against the Hawks, according to The Oklahoman

McGary is getting the nod as Enes Kanter won't be available due to an ankle injury. In McGary's lone previous start, the rookie out of Michigan scored 12 points and posted two rebounds.

(3/16/2015) Thunder forward Mitch McGary scored 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field in Oklahoma City's 119-115 loss to the Mavericks Monday. McGary, who logged just 17 minutes off the bench, added 13 rebounds, leading to his third double-double of the season.

McGary also added one block to his totals.

(3/10/2015) Thunder coach Scott Brooks spoke highly of the energy and enthusiasm forward Mitch McGary has been providing the team when he's in the game, reports ESPN.com.

"That's exactly what his role is going to be right now, because he's that type of guy," Brooks said. "Throw him out there and he's going to change it with his enthusiasm for the game and his energy he’s going to display, his ability to run the floor. Sometimes, it's a good thing there's a basket ahead of him because he seems like he's going to continue to run into the stands. But he brings that enthusiasm and I have to find minutes for him, whether it's five minutes here or there, that's my job."

In 14 games, McGary is averaging 6.9 points and 5.2 rebounds.


Thunder's Mitch McGary notches first double-double of career

(2/8/2015) Fresh off a brief stint in the NBA Development League, Thunder forward Mitch McGary took advantage of increased minutes and recorded his first double-double of his career during Sunday's 131-108 victory over the Clippers.

With center Kendrick Perkins suspended for the game and center Steven Adams leaving the game with a hand injury, McGary played the most minutes of his career and scored 19 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the field. He also added one steal and 10 rebounds over 23 minutes.

"When my name's called, I have to step up,” McGary said, per the team.

After the game, coach Scott Brooks told reporters McGary will receive opportunites to prove his worth, reports The Oklahoman

"He's gonna have to be ready," Brooks said.

With center Kendrick Perkins suspended for Sunday's game against the Clippers, McGary provides depth for the Thunder. The Thunder are 4-point favorites.

(2/3/2015) The Oklahoma City Thunder are sending rookie center Mitch McGary to their D-League affiliate, according to a report from The Oklahoman.

This isn't necessarily seen as a demotion as McGary, taken in the first round out of Michigan in the 2014 draft, as he has only logged an average of four minutes per game due to the depth of the Oklahoma City frontcourt. The Thunder's D-League affiliate is the nearby Oklahoma City Blue, where McGary could receive more playing time to hone his skills as an NBA big man. 

McGary declared for the 2014 NBA draft following a sophomore season at Michigan where he was unable to play much due to a back injury. With the possibility of returning for his junior season, McGary was notified he failed an NCAA drug test for marijuana, which would have banned him for the 2014-15 season.

It's just the second time all year that McGary has been active for a game. He had been battling a tibia issue, but that no longer appears to be a problem. McGary played seven minutes in his only game this season. He scored three points.

(1/13/2015) Thunder forward Mitch McGary has been spotted doing rigorous post-practice individual workouts with assistant coaches, according to The Oklahoman.

However, coach Scott Brooks said McGary, who was ruled out 2-3 weeks with inflammation in his left tibia in late December, is not close to returning.

“He’s sometime away,” Brooks said. “He did a few things on the court (Monday). I don’t know exactly the timetable, but he’s sometime away.”

(12/20/2014) Thunder power forward Mitch McGary will miss two-to-three weeks due to inflammation in his left tibia, The Oklahoman reported Wednesday.

McGary will have his court work restricted while recovering from the injury. He's played just one game this season, sinking his only shot and scoring three points in seven minutes.

(11/24/2014) Thunder power forward Mitch McGary returned to practice on Monday and is nearing a return to the lineup, reports the Oklahoman. McGary has been sidelined for six weeks with a fractured foot. Coach Scott Brooks wouldn't reveal if the rookie will be on a minutes restriction once he returns.

"He's just an unknown," Brooks said. "He hasn't played, he hasn't practiced, so I don't know. That's going to work itself out. So I don’t know how many minutes are going to be there. But I love his energy, love his enthusiasm for his teammates."

(7/9/2014) The Thunder signed forward Mitch McGary to a rookie-scale deal prior to the start of Orlando Summer League, the team announced.

McGary was the No. 21 overall pick in this year's draft, despite playing in just eight games at the University of Michigan last season. McGary dealt with back issues in college, but has already been able to play in the team's first two Summer League games.
