(3/24/2015) After promoting James Young from the D-League on March 21, the Celtics have shipped back the rookie guard to the Maine Red Claws, the team announced.

The short stint back with the Celtics was to fill in the roster spot left vacant by guard Marcus Smart's one-game suspension.

Young missed Friday's loss to the Bulls while suffering from an illness. His status for Monday's game against the Clippers has not been determined.

Meanwhile, recently acquired forwards Tayshaun Prince and Shavlik Randolph were able to participate in Sunday’s practice. Prince had been in discussions with the Celtics over a potential buyout and said all options are still on the table. Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Prince and Randolph should be active for Monday's game.

The Celtics are 11 1/2-point underdogs to the Clippers.

"(Young)'s got whatever that nasty flu is that's going around. (Sullinger)'s gonna try to play," Stevens said. 

Sullinger is averaging 13.8 points and 8.1 rebounds in 37 games this season while Young is averaging 3.1 points and 0.7 rebounds. 

The Celtics are currently 5-point underdogs against the Bulls Friday.

(1/5/2015) Celtics shooting guard James Young scored 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range in Boston's 104-95 loss to the Hornets Monday. Young played 18 minutes in his first game back from a shoulder injury and trips to the D-League.

Coach Brad Stevens was happy to see Young earn his playing time Monday.

"He waited his turn through some injuries. He did a good job," Stevens said.

It was Young's most minutes played in a game this season and first game action he's played for Boston since Dec. 5.

Young sustained the injury earlier in the week while playing for the Maine Red Claws of the D-League. He is hoping to avoid surgery, and is expected to rehab the next few weeks. The Celtics have not unveiled a timetable for his return.
