News: Despite drawing interest from several teams during the offseason, veteran F Peja Stojakovic told ESPN on Monday that he is retiring from the NBA. Stojakovic, who was a free agent, helped Dallas to its first NBA title last year after averaging 7.1 points 1.7 rebounds during the playoffs. "When you start competing against your body more than you're preparing for the actual game," Stojakovic said, "it's a wakeup call."
Analysis: Stojakovic, 34, spent 13 seasons in the league and was one of the most accurate shooters in NBA history. He drilled 45 percent of his shots from the field, including a stellar 40.1 percent from 3-point range, to finish with an average of 17 points per game. Stojakovic started his career with Sacramento before also playing with Indiana, New Orleans, Toronto and the Mavericks. He should be ignored in all 2011-12 Fantasy drafts.
News:Peja Stojakovic helped the Mavericks win an NBA title by beating the Heat in the finals, but he heads into the offseason as a free agent. It is unlikely he will return to Dallas. Stojakovic was inconsistent with the Mavericks. During the regular season he averaged 8.6 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 43 percent from the field, 40 percent from the 3-point line and 94 percent from the foul line. But during the playoffs, Stojakovic averaged 7.1 points and 1.7 rebounds, but he disappeared in the finals, appearing in just four games at 6.5 minutes per game.
Analysis: Keep an eye on where Stojakovic lands, and he bounced around between three teams last year in New Orleans, Toronto and Dallas, averaging 8.5 points and 2.3 rebounds for the year. His best days are clearly behind him, and he has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all leagues on Draft Day.
News: Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic put on a nice little shooting clinic during Game 4 of Sunday's Western Conference semifinals against the Lakers. Stojakovic finished with 21 points in the 122-86 victory on a perfect 7 for 7 shooting from the floor. Six of those attempts came from downtown and he also added three assists, three rebounds and pair of assists to his statline while logging 30 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Stojakovic turned in a vintage performance on Sunday, which reminded many owners about his days in Sacramento. While those are ling gone now, the 33-year-old proved on Sunday that he can still be extremely productive in the right situation. Because of his age and spotty injury history, many of his recent coaches have been hesitant to give Stojakovic big minutes during the regular season in an effort to save him for the postseason. Still, that fact that he is a 40.1 percent 3-point shooter for his career makes him too valuable an option not to spend a late-round selection on in most formats on Draft Day next season.
News: Most of Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic's 17 points in Sunday's game against the Suns came late, to help the team expand their lead and turn the game into a 115-90 route. He shot 6 of 13 off of the bench, but buried three 3-pointer to help put the Suns away. Stojakovic added three rebounds and a pair of assists in 21 minutes of playing time.
Analysis: Stojakovic has thrived since joining the Mavs in late January, and Sunday's game was his best scoring effort since March 20. His minutes have fluctuated a bit, but he has played well when given the right amount of opportunity. The sharpshooter has had somewhat of a re-birth this season while playing behind the stars in Dallas, and he looks as good as he has in a while. Fantasy owners should not expect him to play too much, but he still provides a solid amount of 3-pointers for category-based leagues.
News: Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic went to the bench in Thursday's game against the Timberwolves so Shawn Marion could matchup with the more athletic Michael Beasley. The move didn't affect the sharpshooter's offense, as he shot 6 of 10 on the night on the way to 16 points. Stojakovic shot 4 of 8 from beyond the arc, adding four rebounds and an assist in 26 minutes of reserve action.
Analysis: Stojakovic has now played two games since missing six straight because of a stiff neck, and he's been shooting lights out. The 33-year-old is 9 of 18 from long-range in the combined efforts, averaging 16.5 points per night. He shot well as a starter on Sunday and coming off of the bench on Thursday, so the Mavs seem like getting him shot opportunities is a priority no matter his role. Stojakovic should be used as a solid option in category-based formats for his marksmanship, and he carries some low-end value in standard formats as long as his minutes remain somewhat the same.
News: Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic returned from a six-game layoff due to a stiff neck in Sunday's game against the Warriors. He scored 17 points on 6 of 11 shooting, breaking the game open with his 5 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc. "I wanted to come off the bench ready, and was able to hit some shots in transition," Stojakovic said. "I need to spread the floor and be a threat out there." He added a rebound and an assist in 19 minutes of playing time, but coach Rick Carlisle expects him to be able to shoot from 3-point range well despite the layoff. "Obviously, Stojakovic coming back and getting it going was a big factor for us," Carlisle said. "He's been shooting the ball at that level for 20 years."
Analysis: Stojakovic provides the only other deep threat for the Mavs opposite All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, and the team really opened it up with the two on the floor together and ended up blowing the Warriors out. "He really spreads the floor," Nowitzki said. "He was moving well, moving to his spots. He was aggressive and his shot was flowing. It was fun to watch." Stojakovic has re-emerged into relevance as a pro and in the Fantasy ranks this season with Dallas, and we like him to continue making open shots from long-range. Fantasy owners should use him as a low-end option in most formats, with a bit of added value in deeper and category-based leagues for his outside marksmanship.
News: Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic will be available for Sunday's contest against the Warriors. Stojakovic, who has missed the last six games with a neck injury, is averaging 8.1 points and 2.5 rebounds through 21 games this season.
Analysis: Stojakovic is finally ready to get back on the court after sitting out over a week with his injury. However, the veteran's role with Dallas been minimal thus far and unless that changes, he will have very little Fantasy value down the stretch of the season.
News: Dealing with a stiff neck, Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic missed his sixth straight game Friday against the Spurs. The small forward was at shootaround but is not ready to resume game action.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should not rely on Stojakovic in the majority of formats even if he were healthy, as he doesn't have a significant enough role in Dallas to warrant much value. In category-based formats, Stojakovic is a marginal option because of his 3-point shooting ability.
News: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic will miss his sixth straight game with a stiff neck Friday night against San Antonio. The small forward was at shootaround but is not ready to resume game action.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved in all leagues and hope he can return soon. When healthy, he has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Dallas forward Peja Stojakovic (stiff neck) is not expected to play Friday against San Antonio. Stojakovic has missed the past two games against Portland and Golden State.
Analysis: Stojakovic has minimal Fantasy value when healthy. Keep an eye on his status but don't plan on using him even if he's able to return against the Spurs.
News: The Mavericks official team website reports that forward Peja Stojakovic will not travel with the team to Portland on Tuesday or Golden State on Wednesday due to stiffness in his neck. He has already missed three straight games with the injury.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved in all leagues and hope he can return soon. When healthy, he has minimal Fantasy value in the majority of leagues.
News: Mavericks guard Peja Stojakovic did not play in Saturday's game against the Lakers as he continues to deal with a neck injury. He has now missed three straight games with the injury but is still being considered day to day.
Analysis: While Stojakovic remains day to day with his injury, he will now be considered an injury risk heading into Fantasy Week 21 (March 14-20). Owners should continue to monitor his status moving forward to see when the veteran can get back on the court. Consider him a low-end Fantasy option, when healthy.
News: The team's official website reports Dallas forward Peja Stojakovic was not available for Thursday's game against the Knicks as he continues to deal with a stiff neck. He has now missed a pair of games with the issue.
Analysis: Stojakovic was not expected to play for the most part, with the bigger question lies with Shawn Marion, who's starting in his place. Stojakovic will have another shot to play Saturday against the Lakers. He has been somewhat of a resurgent player this season in Dallas, averaging more than eight points per game in 21 appearances for the Mavericks. Still, Stojakovic remains just a marginal Fantasy value when healthy.
News: According to ESPN.com, Dallas forward Peja Stojakovic, who was scratched from Wednesday's game at the Hornets with a stiff neck stemming from Tuesday's light workout in Minneapolis before the team flew to New Orleans. His availability for Thursday's game against the Knicks is uncertain.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what happens with Stojakovic and hope he is OK. Fantasy owners in daily leagues should keep Stojakovic reserved, and he has minimal value in most formats when healthy.
News: Mavericks F Peja Stojakovic was ruled out for Wednesday night's game against New Orleans due to back spasms, according to the team. Stojakovic played 16 minutes on Monday in Minnesota, finishing with nine points and five rebounds. "Medically, I don't know,'' coach Rick Carlilse told the Dallas Morning News about the seriousness of the injury. "I just know he didn't do anything at shootaournd today and was in some discomfort. I believe we're listing him as day to day. But it's spasms in his neck and that's something that's serious. So we got to make sure we take care of it.''
Analysis: Peja has failed to make a real dent in the team's rotation since moving over to Dallas. He has averaged just 19.8 minutes and 4.8 points over his last five games and does not have much appeal in Fantasy leagues at this stage of the season -- healthy or not.
News: Dallas SF Peja Stojakovic came out of the All-Star break rested and firing on all cylinders against the Jazz on Wednesday night. Stojakovic played 23 minutes and shot 7 of 9 from the field, including 4 for 5 from 3-point range, to score 18 points for the Mavericks. He added two rebounds, a block and a steal. "Peja's one of the top five or six shooters all-time," coach Rick Carlisle said. "If we can get him looks, there's going to be a great chance he'll knock them down."
Analysis: Stojakovic won't always have such a good shooting night, but he's been pretty solid over his last four games for Dallas. Over that span, he's gone 12 for 22 from 3-point range and has scored 18-plus points in two of those contests and been in double figures in all four. If he can continue playing in this fashion, Peja will gain Fantasy value in many deeper formats.
News: Dallas forward Peja Stojakovic made just his fourth appearance with the team in Saturday's in over Houston, but he made an impression his teammates won't soon forget. Stojakovic scored a season-high 22 points on the night while breaking a tie with Dale Ellis for fourth place in career 3-pointers in NBA history. He shot 4 of 6 from long-range and 8 of 12 overall from the floor to tie Dirk Nowitzki for the team high in scoring. "I was getting good looks in the last couple of games, too, it was just that the shots wouldn't go," Stojakovic said. "It's easy to play with the guys. I get so many good looks because they draw so much attention. Tonight (Saturday), I was able make them." He added four rebounds, an assist and a steal in 28 minutes of playing time, also a season-high.
Analysis: Stojakovic was 1 for 11 from beyond the arc in his first three games of action with Dallas, but the rust was certainly gone Saturday night. He now has 1,723 career treys and trails only teammate Jason Kidd (1,756), Reggie Miller (2,560) and Ray Allen (2,562) in NBA history. Allen passed Miller for the lead Thursday. Stojakovic was the key to Dallas' win, as he scored nearly double the amount he did in the previous three games combined. "He's arrived," Nowitzki said. "That was fun to see." Still, Fantasy owners should not fall in love with his single-game performance. Instead, check on his next few outings to see if he has a chance to impact the game on a consistent basis. if he does, Stojakovic may be worth a flier as a low-end Fantasy option after the All-Star beak -- especially in category-based formats.
News: New Dallas forward Peja Stojakovic made his long-awaited team debut and had eight points and five rebounds in the Mavericks' 99-96 victory Monday night. Stojakovic, who was signed a few weeks ago, but had been rehabilitating a knee injury, was in the starting lineup and logged 20 minutes. He finished 3 of 9 from the field and attempted six 3-pointers but made just one.
Analysis: Monday was Stojakovic's first game action since Nov. 26 and the veteran certainly appeared rusty. He struggled shooting the ball and attempted three shots from 3-point range before making his lone trey with 11:15 remaining in the third quarter. It will likely take him awhile to return to game shape and Fantasy owners should not expect huge results right away. Monitor him progress the rest of the week and he could be worth an addition in category-based and deeper leagues only.
News: According to the team's official website, Mavericks F Peja Stojakovic has been cleared to make his Dallas debut on Monday against Cleveland. Stojakovic has been out of action since late November with an apparent knee injury suffered while a member of the Raptors.
Analysis: Some of the reason Stojakovic had been held out since being acquired via trade was because the Mavericks wanted to allow him to regain some conditioning he lost while languishing on the inactive list for Toronto. It might take him a few games, or more, to get situated in Dallas. There are indications, however, that the Mavs plan to lean on him as a significant role player on the wing to give them some of the offense they lost when Caron Butler was lost for the season. He is worth taking a flier on in deeper leagues, especially in category leagues where he might be able to provide significant help in 3-point categories.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Mavericks forward Peja Stojakovic (knee) is expected to make his debut with the team as early as Monday against Cleveland. "If everything goes well, the hope is he'll play next week,'' Carlisle said of Stojakovic. "But that's if all goes well. ... His workouts have to continue to go the right direction in terms of conditioning and rehab on the knee."
Analysis: Stojakovic has been out of action since late November with an apparent knee injury. He was traded from New Orleans to Toronto but has appeared in just eight games all season. Stojakovic is averaging 8.1 points on 48 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent beyond the arc in just under 15 minutes a night. While he'll give the Mavericks a nice shooter off the bench, Stojakovic won't solve their problems. Once he joins Dallas Fantasy owners should continue to view Stojakovic as a low-end forward option in the deepest of formats.
News: Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said Wednesday he expects ailing forward Peja Stojakovic (knee) back sometime soon. Weve got Peja Stojakovic at home working out, getting ready to play next week, he said. Stojakovic, who has not played since being acquired on waivers from New Orleans on Jan. 24, did not travel with the team for its three-game road trip earlier this week.
Analysis: Stojakovic is averaging 8.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game this season but he has not suited up for the Mavericks yet. When he does, it will be the third team the veteran will play for this season. Stojakovic offers Fantasy value in deeper formats -- especially in category-based leagues -- as a great source for 3-point shooting. Keep him on waivers until he returns from injury.
News: Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said on Monday that Peja Stojakovic (knee) will not travel with the team on their three-game road trip that begins this week, according to the team's official website. Stojakovic has yet to play since being acquired on Jan. 24.
Analysis: The report noted that Carlisle plans on Stojakovic working on his conditioning in the next week. The hope is that he will be ready to "heighten" his work the following week. Stojakovic has some long-term appeal in deeper formats -- especially in category play -- with the Mavs hinting at a significant role for him eventually. He can be a great source for 3-point shooting, but at this point he is better saved for patient Fantasy owners.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Mavericks SF Peja Stojakovic won't play Thursday against the Rockets or Saturday night against the Hawks as he continues to deal with a knee injury. The veteran last played on Nov. 26.
Analysis: The Mavericks haven't really said if Peja is sitting out because of the knee injury or because he's not up to speed with the Dallas offense, but it's likely a combination of both. Stojakovic has said his knee is getting better, so he doesn't appear to be too far away from a return. Fantasy owners in deeper leagues who could use his quality shooting skills should continue to stash Peja away until he proves worthy of starting.
News: According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Mavericks are going to be patient with 33-year-old Peja Stojakovic. It's unlikely he'll play in Thursday's game against the Rockets as he's being classified as day-to-day. "He's making gradual progress," coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's doing a little more each day. But if he'll play tomorrow? It's very doubtful." Dallas signed Stojakovic on Monday after Toronto bought out his contract. Peja took part in some light workouts and shooting drills with the team on Wednesday, but his sore left knee and his conditioning aren't where they need to be to play in a game. "We just want to make sure there's no flare-ups with the knee issues," Carlisle said. "So far the signs are very good. He's going to make progress pretty quickly, I believe. But we've just got to make sure that we're going at the right pace."
Analysis: Stojakovic hasn't played in a while, so it makes sense the Mavericks are bringing him along slowly. With Caron Butler out of commission, Peja could see a decent amount of playing time in Dallas, once healthy. "We all know what he did in this league -- he's one of the best shooters ever," forward Dirk Nowitzki said. "He's definitely one of the best shooters in this league and he's going to spread the floor for us." The biggest question will be can Peja's knee hold up and can he perform at the level needed to be considered a Fantasy factor? That remains to be seen and even after he makes his debut with Dallas, it will likely take a few games for him to get into a groove. He's one of the best 3-point shooters and has one of the highest free-throw percentages in NBA history, which gives him marginal Fantasy value in the deepest of leagues. Owners in those formats could take a gamble on him once he does return, but don't expect too much, too quick.
News: The Mavericks announced Tuesday that SF Peja Stojakovic won't play Tuesday against the Clippers and could miss Thursday's game against the Rockets. He should be able to make his Dallas debut soon, however. I feel OK, Stojakovic said. Its just that I havent played basketball for four or five weeks. Its more getting into the playing shape. Its something that I have to work with the trainers and the coaches and keep progressing. I talked to the doctors, its nothing major. Its just something that I guess, the way they explained it, every athlete my age has it. It just depends how you manage it. Right now, Im going in the right direction and hopefully Ill be 100 percent soon.
Analysis: There are whispers that indicate Peja could be in line for a decent amount of playing time in Dallas and could even find himself starting as the team continues to try to fill the Caron Butler void. The possibility of playing time, as well as his premium 3-point shooting ability, make him worth taking a flier on in deeper Fantasy leagues. He is better saved for the very patient Fantasy owner, however.
News: After spending part of Monday watching Mavericks practice, Dallas officially signed small forward Peja Stojakovic, reports the team's official site. Dallas had been trying to clear roster space and that was holding up the signing. It has been reported that Stojakovic will not play on Tuesday against the Clippers.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Peja Stojakovic has yet to sign with the Mavericks as the team continues to try to clear roster space. Coach Rick Carlisle said Stojakovic would not play Tuesday against the Los Angeles Clippers and may not be able to play Thursday. "He's going to be an asset for us,'' Carlisle said. "I don't want to be unfair to him by making this appear to be something where he's going to walk in here playing X number of minutes and be a starter and be making every shot. We got to make sure he's ready from a health and conditioning standpoint. And that may take some time. And whatever amount of time it takes, we're going to take it.''
Analysis: In the meantime, Peja is stuck in a holding patter. But what's a few more days after being a virtual non factor all season with the Raptors. There are whispers that indicate Peja could be in line for a decent amount of playing time in Dallas and could even find himself starting as the team continues to try to fill the Caron Butler void. The possibility of playing time, as well as his premium 3-point shooting ability, make him worth taking a flier on in deeper Fantasy leagues. He is better saved for the very patient Fantasy owner, however.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Mavericks SF Peja Stojakovics could "collect a large portion of minutes at small forward and perhaps start".
Analysis: Stojakovic is no spring chicken at 34, and hasn't played more than 62 games in a single campaign since the 2007-08 season. If his knee can stop plaguing him, Peja could be a factor in the Mavs offense, but that's a big if. For now, only pick Stojakovic up in deeper leagues if you need help at the SF spot.
News: Less than two hours of getting released by the Toronto Raptors, forward Peja Stojakovic has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Dallas as soon as he clears waivers. The terms of the contract buyout was undisclosed.
Analysis: Stojakovic has been out of action since late November with an apparent knee injury. He was traded from New Orleans to Toronto, but has appeared in just eight games all season. Peja is averaging 8.1 points on 48 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent beyond the arc in just under 15 minutes a night. While he'll give the Mavericks a nice shooter off the bench, Peja won't solve their problems. Once he joins Dallas Fantasy owners should continue to view Peja as a low-end forward option in the deepest of formats.
News: The Raptors bought out the contract of SF Peja Stojakovic on Thursday. The veteran shooter will apparently sign with the Mavericks, according to ESPN.
Analysis: Stojakovic has reportedly been out with a knee injury since late November, but he must feel confident in the joint's status if he's throwing team names out there. Of course, one of those teams would also have to be willing to take him on. For now, continue to ignore Peja in Fantasy play.
News: ESPN.com is reporting that Toronto SF Peja Stojakovic could be bought out by the Raptors. Toronto is currently looking to trade Stojakovic. He is out indefinitely currently.
Analysis: Stojakovic could end up finding roster space elsewhere, but until he does, he has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: Toronto SF Peja Stojakovic has missed eight straight games because of swelling in his left knee and the team has no idea when he'll be able to return, reports the Toronto Star on Monday. The Raptors play again on Tuesday in Charlotte and Stojakovic is definitely out.
Analysis: Only owned in 5 percent of Fantasy leagues at this point, Stojakovic has bled Fantasy value this season. We have no clue when he'll return to the court and is likely to be just a small part of the Toronto rotation when he does. He can be cut in just about all Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: According to the Raptors official website, forward Peja Stojakovic was not active for Saturday's showdown with the Pistons. The veteran forward has missed eight straight games with a knee injury.
Analysis: Stojakovic has played in just two games since joining Toronto. While he's averaging 9.2 points and 1.5 rebounds over those contests, it is still unsure how much he'll factor into the rotation once he's healthy. For now, Fantasy owners should ignore Peja in all formats. When he's healthy, he is only worth owning in the deepest of category-based leagues solely for his 3-pointers.
News: According to the Raptors official website, forward Peja Stojakovic was not active for Friday's contest against the Nuggets. He's now missed seven straight games with this knee injury. He is being considered day to day.
Analysis: Stojakovic is a pure shooter and has played well in his limited time in Toronto. In the two games he's played for the Raptors he's averaging 9.2 points and 1.5 rebounds. He's also shooting 50 percent from the field and 48 percent from downtown. He's far from an elite option, but Peja is worth using in the deepest of category-based Fantasy leagues, solely for his shooting percentages and 3-pointers.
News: Toronto forward Peja Stojakovic missed his sixth straight game on Wednesday as the Raptors faced the Knicks. Stojakovic has not been traveling with the team due to his knee injury. He is being considered day to day, but could return to action on Friday against Denver.
Analysis: Stojakovic is one of the best 3-point shooters in NBA history, but the lack of playing time has hurt him the last few years. He scored 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting with three 3-pointers in his last game played on Nov. 26 at Boston, so he can still produce. Until he's back on the floor, Fantasy owners should keep Peja reserved until further notice.
News: Toronto forward Peja Stojakovic is not with the team as the Raptors played the Pacers in Indiana on Monday night, reported the team's play-by-play announcer. Stojakovic is not traveling with Toronto due to his knee injury and missed his fourth straight game Monday. The team won't return home from the current road trip until Dec. 10 against Denver. Stojakovic is likely out until then.
Analysis: Stojakovic scored 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting with three 3-pointers in his last game played on Nov. 26 at Boston over 16 minutes on the floor. He can clearly still put the ball in the basket, especially from long range, when healthy. That said, he's anything but these days. Keep him reserved until he can prove both healthy and effective.
News: Raptors F Peja Stojakovic(knee) was held out of Sunday's game against the Knicks. He missed his fourth straight game with continued swelling in his left knee.
Analysis: Stojakovic has averaged 5.5 points in four games with the Raptors since being traded from New Orleans on Nov. 20. He is an above-average 3-point shooter and could see more playing time with Reggie Evans being sidelined for more than a month. Keep him reserved until he can prove both healthy and effective.
News: Raptors F Peja Stojakovic was active for Friday's game against the Thunder but he did not play due to a swollen left knee. He is considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Peja is one of the players who could see a boost in playing time with Reggie Evans being sidelined for the next two months, but he is going to be used in spotty situations as a player who is more accustomed to playing the wing small forward position rather than power forward despite being 6-10. He is a possible sleeper for 3-point shooting in category leagues, but remains a very low-end play in Fantasy for now.
News: Raptors F Peja Stojakovic (knee) did not dress for Wednesday night's game against the Wizards due to a swollen left knee. He was activated for the game, however. He is considered day-to-day by the team.
News: Toronto forward Peja Stojakovic will not play Wednesday night against Washington, according to the team's play-by-play announcer. Stojakovic, who missed practice Monday, is considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Stojakovic has averaged 5.5 points in four games with the Raptors since being traded from New Orleans on Nov. 20. He is an above-average 3-point shooter and could see more playing time with Reggie Evans being sidelined for more than a month. When he's healthy, Stojakovic could make for a quality Fantasy option.
News: According to the team's official website, Raptors F Peja Stojakovic missed Monday's practice. However, the report added that the swelling in his knee has "gone down." Stojakovic is considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Peja is one of the players expected to see a boost in playing time with Reggie Evans being sidelined for possibly over a month, but he is going to be used in spotty situations as a player who is more accustomed to playing the wing small forward position rather than power forward despite being 6-10. He is a possible sleeper for 3-point shooting in category leagues, but remains a very low-end play in Fantasy for now.
News: Raptors F Peja Stojakovic was held out of Sunday's active roster against Atlanta. Raptors radio announcer Eric Smith reports that he was held out due to swelling in his left knee.
Analysis: Stojakovic should be considered day-to-day. Peja is one of the players expected to see a boost in playing time with Reggie Evans being sidelined for possibly over a month, but he is going to be used in spotty situations as a player who is more accustomed to playing the wing small forward position rather than power forward despite being 6-10. He is a possible sleeper for 3-point shooting in category leagues, but remains a very low-end play in Fantasy for now.
News: New Raptors forward Peja Stojakovic scored 13 points and grabbed two rebounds off the bench in Friday's loss at Boston, his second game played with Toronto since being acquired from New Orleans. Stojakovic played 16 minutes -- after logging only six during his debut Wednesday -- and finished 5 of 7 from the field, including 3-4 from 3-point range. He could see increased playing time soon, perhaps even in the starting lineup, after starting forward Reggie Evans suffered a broken foot in Friday's game.
Analysis: Stojakovic will continue to see his minutes in a reserve role for the Raptors unless used as a replacement for Evans. In two games with his new club, he is averaging 11 minutes, 10 points and 1.5 rebounds. Despite being an accurate shooter, especially from long range, his Fantasy value is limited to deep leagues but keep a lookout on a possible addition to the Toronto starting lineup.
News: Raptors forward Peja Stojakovic saw just six minutes in his debut on Wednesday against the 76ers. Stojakovic was acquired from the Hornets on Friday. He scored seven points on a 2-for-3 shooting performance -- 1 fro 2 from downtown -- and going 2 for 2 at the foul line. He added one rebound for the Raptors, as they would win the game, 106-90.
Analysis: Stojakovic was acquired from the Hornets on Friday. He was averaging just 14.8 minutes over six appearances for the Hornets this year, but being used sparingly. While he is one of the best shooters in the NBA, his lack of playing time doesn't give him much Fantasy value. Until he starts getting more playing time, he's not worth owning in the majority of leagues. If his minutes go up, consider him an option in the deepest of category-based formats for his 3-point shooting ability.
News: Peja Stojokovic, who was traded from the Raptors to the Hornets on Friday, was not able to make his debut with the Raptors on Sunday against the Celtics. He is, however, expected to make his debut on Wednesday at home against the Sixers. Stojakovic was averaging just 14.8 minutes over six appearances for the Hornets.
Analysis: Stojakovic, a veteran sharp-shooter, is merely a role player at this stage in his career. However, more playing time in Toronto could allow him to return to relevance in category leagues as a potential 3-point option in Fantasy.
News: Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Hornets have agreed, in principle, to trade forward Peja Stojakovic and guard Jerryd Bayless to the Raptors for guard Jarrett Jack, David Andersen and Marcus Banks.
Analysis: On the season for the Hornets, Stojakovic was only averaging 7.5 points and two 3-pointers per game over 14.8 minutes. He could actually see a boost in minutes with the Raptors and that could mean more production, especially from long range. Fantasy owners will want to monitor how he performs with his new team. He could gain viability in leagues where 3-pointers are coveted.
News: In his first action in four games, veteran forward Peja Stojakovic logged 17 minutes in Saturday's 107-87 win over Portland. Stojakovic has been healthy, but not been active in coach Monty William's rotation. His 11 points were one more than he had in his two previous games combined. "I saw a diagram on TV the other night and it listed the best shooters in the history of the game, and Peja was on that list," Williams said. "It just kind of shocked me. He can shoot in his sleep. For him to come off the bench like that and help us was huge." All of Stojakovic's shots were from behind the arc as he shot 3 for 7 from the field. He also hit two foul shots. Stojakovic grabbed one board and dished out two assists as well.
Analysis: Stojakovic showed he can still shoot the long-ball and score, so Williams might decide to keep him coming off the bench heading into Week 4 (Nov. 15-21). The Hornets play four games in the scoring period, so it will give Fantasy owners a good sampling of how New Orleans uses the veteran sharpshooter moving forward. Continue viewing him as a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic was active for the first time in four games for New Orleans as they faced Portland on Saturday. He's been healthy, but has not been included in the rotation by new coach Monty Williams.
Analysis: Stojakovic has played in two games this year and scored just 10 points. He can still hit 3-pointers, but with very limited playing time, Peja isn't worth owning in the majority of Fantasy leagues right now. If he's traded his value could go up, but we wouldn't hold our breath for that to happen.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic was inactive on Wednesday against Houston without an injury for the first time in his career, reports NBA.com. Coach Monty Williams said the decision to sit him was "matchup driven." Williams took the blame for Stojakovic's lack of playing time. Its a tough spot for Peja, Williams said. Its the first time hes been inactive in his career, and I take a lot of the blame actually all of it because I probably didnt do a great job of communicating to him when he was going to play.
Analysis: Stojakovic has scored 10 points in two games over 22 minutes on the court for the Hornets this season. He's still hitting a 3-pointer per game but as long as he's going to sit when healthy, he should not be owned in Fantasy.
News: Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic's 3-pointer, his only basket, put New Orleans up 73-72 on Wednesday and the team did not look back as they beat the Bucks, 95-91. Stojakovic played just under eight minutes and took just two shots from the field.
Analysis: Stojakovic has seen his production and playing time decrease over the past few years and Fantasy owners should take notice and keep him reserved in all but the deepest of Rotisserie formats. His 12.6 points per game last year, were his lowest since his second year in the NBA, and barring any shakeups in New Orleans, he'll be lucky to hit that average again this season.
News: Hornets veteran forward Peja Stojakovic missed all three of his shots from the field in Saturday's preseason opener against the Grizzlies. He finished the night 0 for 3 (0 for 2 from downtown) and recorded one rebound.
Analysis: Stojakovic has seen his points-per game average decrease for seven straight years and has only played in at least 80 games in a season once in his 12-year career. His 12.6 points per game last year, were his lowest since his second year in the NBA. Between his injury-prone status and the fact he's getting up there in age, makes Stojakovic a risky Fantasy option on Draft Day. With new faces in the mix in New Orleans, he may see a decrease in minutes. Owners should view him as a late-round pick at best this season.
News: The Sports Xchange reports that Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic didn't have any issues with his back, which has plagued him in the past, but he missed the last 18 games of the season because of a lower abdominal strain. Counting two other games that Stojakovic missed for personal reasons and the Hornets were 4-16 in his absence.
Analysis: Stojakovic also didn't have his best year when he was healthy. He only averaged 12.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists while making 132 three-pointers. He needs to play better and stay healthy to be considered a must-start Fantasy option, but he is useful in category-based leagues because of his shooting prowess. Plan on drafting Stojakovic with a late-round pick in 2010-11.
News: The Hornets official team Web site reports New Orleans forward Peja Stojakovic (abdominal) said he's still hopeful to return prior to the April 14 conclusion of the regular season. However, he still has not been cleared to practice or even run yet. "Hopefully it heals," Stojakovic said. "It doesn't matter where we are in the standings or how many games are left -- I'd just like to play, make a comeback and maybe play a couple games." Asked whether the Hornets would consider shutting down Stojakovic for the season, coach Jeff Bower said, "only if it reaches that point. Right now we still are hopeful that he'll show improvement and be able to make a return."
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved in all leagues until he gets back on the court -- if that happens. When healthy, Stojakovic is a low-end No. 3 Fantasy option in all scoring formats.
News: As of Sunday, there remained no update on a possible return date for F Peja Stojakovic (abdominal). His initial prognosis ruled him out through at least the end of March.
Analysis: With the end of the month coming up, Peja could conceivably come back at some point in Fantasy Week 23 (March 29-April 4), but the lack of a guarantee makes him somebody to avoid. The Hornets have returned to full strength with Chris Paul back in the lineup and Peja's chances to contribute when he does return could be scarce.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Hornets F Peja Stojakovic (abdominal) has no set timetable for his return to the court. "It has improved," said Stojakovic on Thursday. "But I wouldn't say a great deal. I'd say it's better this last week, since we started the road trip. It's getting better."
Analysis: This leaves Peja on schedule for a late March return. By then, Chris Paul could be back for the Hornets as well. For whatever reason, Peja's numbers this season have been better without CP3 in the lineup, so his window for Fantasy use may have come to an end. Continue to keep an eye on his situation. He remains a nice source for three-point shooting.
News: According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Hornets F Peja Stojakovic (abdominal) will remain out for at least another 10 days. Last Wednesday, the team announced that Stojakovic would miss a minimum of two weeks.
News: According to the official team Web site, Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic will miss a minimum of two weeks with a lower abdominal strain. Stojakovic suffered the injury in the third quarter of Monday's game against the Warriors. If Stojakovic is out for two weeks, he will be sidelined for the next nine games. Coach Jeff Bower said Julian Wright will replace Stojakovic in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game at Oklahoma City.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved in all leagues, and this is bad timing with the Fantasy playoffs starting in the majority of leagues in Fantasy Week 21. Hopefully he can return before the end of the season since Stojakovic is a quality Fantasy option when healthy, but he remains a risky option for the rest of the year based on the timing of this injury.
News: New Orleans SF Peja Stojakovic left Monday's game against the Warriors after scoring 16 points, all in the first three quarters, with a right groin strain. He is initially considered day to day.
Analysis: Peja is averaging 12.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and a 3-pointer per game over his last five before this injury. He should be considered day to day and an injury risk in daily leagues. He is normally a solid Fantasy start for most 12-team and deeper leagues.
News: Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic had 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists and one steal Wednesday night against Memphis. He has now scored in double figures in his past three games and is averaging 12.0 points and 3.6 rebounds with five three-pointers in his past five games.
Analysis: Stojakovic has been erratic all season in his production, but he's capable of good scoring nights like this on a regular basis when he's going well. Keep him active in all leagues as a No. 3 Fantasy option and hope for more outings like this.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic had another slow night on Wednesday, scoring 11 points against the Bucks. In 30 minutes, he attempted only eight shots, making four of them, going 2 of 2 from 3-point range. He added one rebound, one assist and two steals.
Analysis: Stojakovic had been on fire in February, averaging 19.0 points through the first nine games this month. However, he's combined for a total of 20 in his past two outings. These past two games should be an aberration, and Peja should bounce back and remain a solid Fantasy option.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic had 24 points, hitting 4 of 5 from 3-point range, on Wednesday against the Jazz. Stojakovic finished 8 of 12 from the field. He added four rebiunds, four assists and three steals. Stojakovic has breached 20 points in three straight games and four of five.
Analysis: Stojakovic has managed double figures in points for 10 straight games, his longest such streak of the season. A lot of it has to do with the fact he is shooting 51.1 percent (23 of 45) from 3-point range in February. Stojakovic is starting to post some reliable Fantasy numbers and gain back some of the value he has lost over the last few seasons. We are just eager to see how consistent he plays once Chris Paul returns to the lineup in March.
News: New Orleans forward Peja Stojakovic had a huge game on Monday in a loss at Orlando. Peja nailed five threes and shot 11 of 18 overall to score a team-high 29 points. He added nine rebounds and five dimes.
Analysis: Stojakovic is going to be asked to pick up much of the scoring slack now that Chris Paul is out for an extended period of time. He's been doing the job so far, averaging 19.2 points and three three-pointers per game over his last five. He's playing like a must-start right now so continue to think of him that way until he proves differently.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic scored 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting as New Orleans defeated Charlotte 104-99 on Saturday. Peja played 35 minutes and added four rebounds and three assists in the win.
Analysis: Stojakovic has been producing at a higher level since the injury to Chris Paul. He is averaging 17.4 points over his last five games. Unfortunately, he does not see much production in rebounds and assists. He is a solid No. 3 Fantasy forward.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic scored 23 points Friday against the 76ers. In 37 minutes he shot 8 of 14, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range. He added three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
Analysis: Stojakovic's production has picked up in Chris Paul's absence. In four games since CP3 has been out Peja has scored 20 or more twice. Expect him to continue to shoulder a bigger offensive role in the coming weeks.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic had a tough night shooting against the Bulls on Friday, sinking just 4 of his 15 shots. He finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. He did manage to make 3 of the 7 3-pointers he attempted.
Analysis: Stojakovic has scored in double figures three times in his last four games, but is only averaging 10.4 points in his last five contests. He is what he is at this point of his career, a low-end Fantasy option. He has value in only the deepest of leagues.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic hit four threes on Saturday during a loss at Denver. He went 4 for 10 from downtown and 6 of 15 overall to score 16 points over 33 minutes. Stojakovic added four rebounds and two steals.
Analysis: Peja has eight threes in his last five games but had been in something of a shooting slump previous to the four threes he hit Saturday. In fact, averaging 11 points per game over his last five, his scoring is down right now for the Hornets. He has value in deeper leagues but that is about it these days.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic hit three threes and shot 7 of 13 overall on Sunday as New Orleans won at Washington. Peja scored 20 points and added three rebounds and two assists.
Analysis: Stojakovic is averaging 10.2 points per game over his last five contests and fewer than two threes per game. This is lower than his season averages but Sunday's game was a step in the right direction. Stojakovic is just a low-end option until he can get healthier and start producing at a higher level consistently.
News: New Orleans SF Peja Stojakovic, who has been dealing with back pain, was able to play through it on Saturday against the Rockets but was not too effective. Stojakovic went 2 for 7 from the field, scoring five points and adding a rebound and an assist.
Analysis: Stojakovic has been performing at a rather low level of late, averaging 6.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in his past five games. Those numbers are well below his average for the season, as the back soreness is clearly having a negative impact on his play. Stojakovic is just a low-end option until he can get healthier and start producing at a higher level.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Peja Stojakovic sat out Friday's practice due to pain in his back. The pain stems from a blow to the back he took Wednesday against Miami. Coach Jeff Bower said barring any setbacks, Stojakovic should play Saturday night against the Houston Rockets at New Orleans Arena. "He got hit in the back, but we're expecting him to go (Saturday night)," Bower said. "He took today off, but did some light shooting and stretch. Unless something shows up (Saturday) morning, he feels he'll be playing (Saturday) night as normal. We'll see how he is, but from his comments today, he expects to play."
Analysis: Peja is always a risky start because of his aging body and inconsistency, but use him as a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward in deeper leagues for his ability to hit the three in category-based play. It appears safe to keep him active in those formats.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic put up 24 points, his most in a month, as New Orleans defeated the Nuggets on Friday night.
Analysis: Take away his two eight-point outings earlier this month, and Peja has averaged 16.8 points since mid-November or so. He's a little bit inconsistent at time and always prone to injury, but Stojakovic is certainly worth using in deeper leagues as a low-end starting option.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic scored a team-high 21 points with five threes on Wednesday in a win over the Wolves. He was 5 of 6 from downtown and 8 of 12 overall. He added two steals and three rebounds.
Analysis: Peja is always a risky start because of his aging body and inconsistency, but use him as a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward in deeper leagues for his ability to stroke the three.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic returned to action in Friday's win over the Timberwolves after missing a couple of games due to a personal matter. Stojakovic managed 8 points and 4 rebounds.
Analysis: Peja is always a risky start because of his aging body and inconsistency, but use him as a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward in deeper leagues for Week 7 (Dec. 7-13).
News:Peja Stojakovic is listed as a probable starter for Friday's game against Minnesota in the team's official media notes. He missed the team's last two games while attending to a personal matter.
Analysis: All signs point to Peja returning Friday night. If you are in a daily lineup league, it appears safe to activate him. In weekly formats, he should be a safe play for the team's upcoming three-game scoring period in Fantasy Week 7 (Dec. 7-13).
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic missed a second straight game to deal with a family member's illness Tuesday at the Lakers. He's day to day.
Analysis: Stojakovic is still an excellent 3-point shooter and has scored in double figures in six straight games, averaging 17.7 points during that stretch. He's worth using as a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward once he returns.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports the Hornets practiced Monday in Los Angeles, but starting small forward Peja Stojakovic did not rejoin the team because of an illness with a family member. The Hornets haven't ruled out Stojakovic for Tuesday's game at the Lakers, but it appears unlikely he will play.
Analysis: If Stojakovic does miss Tuesday's game as expected then hopefully he will not be out long. When healthy and active, consider Stojakovic a low-end No. 3 Fantasy forward.
News: The New Orleans Hornets have yet to announce an update on the return status of SF Peja Stojakovic, who left the team for personal reasons and missed Sunday's game. The Hornets next play at the Lakers on Tuesday and it is not yet known if Peja will be able to play.
Analysis: New Orleans only plays twice during Week 6 (Nov. 30-Dec. 6) and the team has a bad matchup to begin with. If there was no threat of Peja missing time we'd still suggest going in another direction. Stojakovic could easily miss the game Tuesday, though, so we feel it is best to reserve him across the board.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic is not with the team due to personal family reasons for the game Sunday at Sacramento, his former team. The team unsure when he'll return at this point.
Analysis: The Hornets play only twice in Week 6 (Nov. 30-Dec. 6) and Peja may miss one of those games now. This clearly suggests you keep him inactive for the upcoming Fantasy week. When able to play, Stojakovic is a deadly three-point specialist and worth using in deeper Fantasy leagues despite coming off the bench.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic scored 25 points, hitting 7 of 11 threes, and pulled down 13 rebounds, by far a season high, Thursday against the Suns, giving him his first double-double of the season. He's averaging 21.7 points over his last three games.
Analysis: The Hornets recently inserted Stojakovic into the starting lineup, and the move has paid off. He's picking up some of the points left behind by Chris Paul, but his performance might be spotty since he relies so heavily on the 3-pointer. Still, he's worth a flier if you need an extra forward for your bench.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic, who had to come off the bench for the first seven games this season, got a start Monday at the Clippers in an effort to give his team a spark. He played 25 minutes and scored 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting, including 2 of 6 from 3-point range. He also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Analysis: The Hornets won by nearly 30 points, so if there's any justice in the world, Stojakovic will continue to start. He's no longer the consistent scorer or rebounder he was in years past, but he still knows how to knock down the three. Keep an eye on him to see how well he performs as a starter.
News: New Orleans SF Peja Stojakovic scored 11 points in 30 minutes off the bench on Monday in a win over the Knicks. Peja was 3 of 6 from three-point range and he added two assists and two steals.
Analysis: Stojakovic nailed six threes and poured home 26 points on Sunday at Boston and now has 12 threes on the season in four games. He is a deadly three-point specialist and is worth using in deeper Fantasy leagues despite coming off the bench.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic lead the team in scoring in the preseason finale against the Clippers. He came off the bench to score 19 points in 23 minutes. Peja shot 6 of 10 from the field and hit all three of his three-point attempts. He added one steal.
Analysis: Stojakovic has scored in double figures in two of his last three preseason games but despite regular minutes, hasn't done much else. He'll enter the regular season as a bench and role player and should only be owned in Fantasy as such.
News:Peja Stojakovic's conducted a series of low-impact exercises while immersed in salt water in the Mediterranean Sea this offseason. He explained that his aquatic workouts helped him strengthen his chronically ailing back in ways "I wouldn't be able to do on the ground."
Analysis: The 32-year-old swingman is pain-free for now, and he believes he can still be a productive NBA player, even if it means coming off the bench. Stojakovic said whatever role coach Byron Scott has in mind for him, "I'm for it if I can be helpful to this team. I'm not looking for any individual achievements," Stojakovic said. "I really believe this team has talent and potential to play good basketball. If we all understand our roles from the very beginning and know what we have to do on the court, I think we can be a successful team." Scott intends to give 2007 first-round draft choice Julian Wright a chance to start at small forward, while Morris Peterson and rookie Marcus Thornton, a star on LSU's 2009 Southeastern Conference championship team, will compete for playing time at shooting guard. Consider Stojakovic more of a fourth or fifth option at forward these days in Fantasy, but he can still be very helpful in category-based play for help in three-point shooting.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic, who returned two games ago after missing nearly a month with back spasms, is back in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Heat.
Analysis: Stojakovic has struggled in his return from the back injury, but maybe being back in the starting lineup will help. For now, consider Stojakovic a No. 4 Fantasy forward.
News: Hornets coach Byron Scott said Peja Stojakovic may be ready to start Tuesday night when New Orleans visits Miami. Stojakovic started Sunday's game at New Orleans as a reserve in his second game since returning from a back injury that kept him out 15 games.
Analysis: Stojakovic starting will obviously raise his Fantasy value as he is likely to get more playing time and play with the team's starters more. He won't be the high-end option he is capable of being at first but will hopefully turn up his game down the stretch of the regular season as New Orleans gears up for the playoffs. Stojakovic can be used in the upcoming scoring period but don't expect him to be the Peja of old right away.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic was able to return to the Hornets lineup on Friday against the Warriors after missing 15 games with a back injury. He came in off the bench and scored seven points on 3-for-8 shooting in 25 minutes of work. Julian Wright started for the 16th game in a row in Peja's place in the starting lineup.
Analysis: This has been a long time coming for Stojakovic owners who have been patiently holding on to him and waiting for his return. He won't be the high-end option he is capable of being at first but will hopefully turn up his game down the stretch of the regular season as New Orleans gears up for the playoffs. Stojakovic can be used in the upcoming scoring period but don't expect him to be the Peja of old right away.
News: After missing 15 consecutive games with back spasms, Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic will play Friday night against the Golden State Warriors, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Hornets Coach Byron Scott said Stojakovic will come off the bench for the next few games. Stojakovic has been sidelined with back spasms since having to leave a March 2 game against Philadelphia during the third quarter. "He'd probably play about 20 to 25 minutes," Scott said about Friday's game. "We want to gradually build his minutes back up. He will probably play two or three games off the bench before we insert him back in the starting lineup." Julian Wright will earn his 16th consecutive start at small forward in place of Stojakovic. Wright has averaged 16 points in the previous two games.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved for now and hope he can return at 100 percent and play at a high level. When healthy, he is a No. 3 Fantasy option. Wright has played well, but with Stojakovic back in the lineup, his value will decrease.
News: New Orleans SF Peja Stojakovic could not play in Wednesday's game against the Clippers. It was the 15th straight game he missed. Hornets coach Byron Scott has said that there is no timetable for his return yet, despite his back feeling a little better according to Scott.
Analysis: Stojakovic has played in 53 games this season, averaging 13.8 points. It seems that Peja is just days from returning but he's too volatile right now to consider starting in weekly Fantasy leagues. Keep him reserved until he can prove healthy.
News: New Orleans SF Peja Stojakovic could not play in Tuesday night's game against the Kings. It was the 14th straight game he missed.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports there's still no timetable on when Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic might return to the lineup. Coach Byron Scott said he continues to report that his back is feeling better, but it's uncertain when he'll return. Sunday night's game was the 13th in a row he has missed with his latest round of back spasms.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved in all leagues for this scoring period. The Hornets play four games this week, but it doesn't sound like Stojakovic will play any time soon. When healthy, he is a No. 3 Fantasy option.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic missed his 13th straight game on Sunday against the Spurs as he's dealing with back spasms. He was expected to return at some point this weekend but never saw any action.
Analysis: Stojakovic is clearly a major Fantasy injury risk in Week 23 (March 30-April 5). Stojakovic has played in 53 games this season, averaging 13.8 points. It seems that Peja is just days from returning but he's too volatile right now to consider starting in weekly Fantasy leagues. Keep him reserved for the upcoming scoring period.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic was unable to play on Friday against the Knicks as he continues to nurse a back injury. Stojakovic was thought to potentially return to action on Friday and remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Spurs.
Analysis: Peja was thought to have a decent chance of returning on Friday against the Knicks but was unable to do so. Even if he does return on Sunday against the Spurs, he'll likely be a player to reserve for the upcoming scoring period as he'll probably be a bit rusty.
News:Peja Stojakovic was unable to return to New Orleans' lineup when the Hornets faced the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night. Shortly before tip-off, Hornets coach Byron Scott said Stojakovic would miss his 11th straight game with back soreness. Scott said Stojakovic, who had back surgery two seasons ago but came back strong last season, has been feeling better lately and did more work than usual in shootaround Wednesday morning. "We'll see how he feels tonight and tomorrow, because that gives us an indication if we can do a little bit more with him to get him going," Scott said. He added that when Stojakovic eventually returns, he may do so initially coming off the bench because second-year swingman Julian Wright has been performing well recently as a starter. "It might be a great idea to bring Peja off the bench ... for a few games," Scott said. "That will allow me to control his minutes even more so, where I can kind of gradually get him back into the grove of things rather than throwing him back out there right away."
Analysis: Stojakovic has played in 53 games this season, averaging 13.8 points. It seems that Peja is just days from returning and we think he's got a good chance to play in New York Friday, but it will likely come off the bench, at best. It is probably the best idea to keep him benched until he can prove himself healthy and ready to contribute.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Hornets coach Byron Scott said forward Peja Stojakovic is making progress, but said some days his feels OK and some days he experiences pain. Stojakovic said last week that he still feels a stinging pain that extends from his lower back to his leg. He is questionable for Wednesday's game against Denver. Stojakovic has now missed 10 games due to this injury.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved in all leagues until he can get back on the court and prove he is 100 percent. This back injury has been a pain for Fantasy owners who count on Stojakovic as a No. 3 Fantasy forward.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic was unable to play on Sunday against the Warriors as he continues to nurse a back injury. Stojakovic is typically a starter but was replaced in the lineup by Julian Wright. He remains questionable for Wednesday's game against the Nuggets.
Analysis: Stojakovic has now missed 10 games due to this injury and becomes an injury risk for the upcoming scoring period. There was a chance he was going to return on Sunday but that obviously did not happen. Unless word comes down before lineups lock on Monday that he'll be active on Wednesday, he should not be used in the upcoming scoring period.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic was unable to play on Friday against the Grizzlies as expected but there is a chance that he could play in Sunday's game against the Warriors. Stojakovic is typically a starter but was replaced in the lineup by Julian Wright.
Analysis: Stojakovic has now missed nine straight games due to this injury, but will hopefully be able to return on Sunday. If he does become available for the upcoming scoring period, he'll be a No. 3 Fantasy forward.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Hornets coach Byron Scott said Friday that Peja Stojakovic (back spasms) could play this Sunday against the Golden State. That rules him out for Friday's game against Memphis.
Analysis: This will be the ninth straight game without Stojakovic. Keep Stojakovic reserved in daily leagues for Friday, obviously, but it looks like he could be available for Sunday and should be available for the upcoming scoring period.. When healthy, Stojakovic is a No. 3 Fantasy forward.
News: Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic missed Wednesday's game against Minnesota because of lingering back problems. "My gut tells me he will play in this homestand, I'm not sure if it'll be Friday, Sunday or Wednesday," coach Byron Scott said of Stojakovic during Wednesday morning's shootaround. "Hopefully it's the earliest, which is Friday, which is what I'm hoping for. A lot of it depends on how he feels. He said he feels a whole lot better and that's encouraging. We'll just go from there."
Analysis: This is the eighth straight game without Stojakovic. Keep Stojakovic reserved in daily leagues for Friday unless something changes. When healthy, Stojakovic is a No. 3 Fantasy forward.
News: Hornets coach Byron Scott said Peja Stojakovic should be ready to play soon, but would miss his seventh straight game with back soreness on Monday night against the Rockets. "Sometime this week I expect him to be back out there, or this homestand," Scott said.
Analysis: Scott doesn't sound convinced that he'll have Peja back for New Orleans' next game on Wednesday against the Minnesota. For that reason you should continue to keep him benched in daily leagues and hopefully you didn't start him in Week 21. Let him come back and prove he is 100 percent before making him active in all formats.
News: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic is expected to miss his seventh consecutive game Monday night against Houston. Stojakovic said before Saturday's game that he was experiencing sharp pains running down from his lower back to his legs, a problem he experienced in 2006 when he tried to come back to play after requiring back surgery. Hornets Coach Byron Scott said they are in no rush for his return until he is healthy. The team officially list him as a having back spasms. "Sometimes it's slow, sometimes it's fast," said Scott, regarding Stojakovic's recovery. "Peja being in his early 30s, maybe that has something to do with it as well. It's no big rush for us right now."

Analysis: This cannot be good news for Stojakovic owners. Chances are, the re-evaluations could find something causing the pain that will cause him to miss some time. That makes him an extreme injury risk for Week 21 (March 16-22). When healthy, Stojakovic is a decent No. 3 forward.
News: Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic remained out Friday against the Bucks with back spasms. Stojakovic has now missed four games with the injury. Hornets coach Byron Scott said before the game that Stojakovic still had some soreness and would likely sit out Saturday's game at Chicago as well.
Analysis: Stojakovic is likely going to be an injury risk for the upcoming scoring period as he is probably not going to play. Unless word comes down that he'll be back for the upcoming scoring period, he will likely be a player we recommend sitting. When healthy, Stojakovic is a decent No. 3 forward.

News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic has struggled from the field in his past two games in a major way. On Sunday, Stojakovic went 3-for-11 on field goals for 11 points and six rebounds with an assist. Every shot he took was from downtown as well.
Analysis: In his previous game against Milwaukee, he went 3-of-10 from long distance and 5-of-15 overall for 13 points and four rebounds. He has hit only 12 of the last 38 triples he's attempted and is going through the type of funk that even great shooters like Peja go through. He should still be thought of as a No. 3 or 4 option despite the recent struggles.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic had 18 points, eight rebounds and two assists in Monday's game in Sacramento. He went 4-for-5 from the foul line and had a string of 35 straight free throws made snapped in the game. He had been held to double figures in his previous two games.
Analysis: Peja is going through a bit of a shooting funk, making just 19-of-52 shots over his last five games and going just 8-for-31 from beyond the arc in that span. Shooters go through this from time to time, but players of Peja's caliber usually snap out of it. Fantasy owners should consider him a worthy No. 3 or 4 option through his funk.

Analysis: Stojakovic is averaging 14 points per game on the season and will occasionally outperform those numbers. Of course, he'll also under-perform at times in his heightened age. He's averaging five boards per game over his last five with 1.2 steals. As long as the Hornets have their core of scorers, Peja will be mostly left for 12-team and deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: New Orleans was without three of its best players on Monday against the Grizzlies as Tyson Chandler and Chris Paul were injured and David West suspended. To make up for the losses, small forward Peja Stojakovic kept shooting and shooting and shooting. He did score 23 points in the loss but he also missed most of the time. He finished 7-for-22 from the field and 1-of-7 from deep and added seven rebounds and only one assist.
Analysis: Peja took it upon himself to score for the Hornets and that meant a horrendous shooting night as the extra pressure was placed on his shoulders. The good news is that the Hornets expect to have at least some of the trio back for its next game so Peja won't have to press. He's still scoring 21 points per game over his last five with six boards and 2.4 steals so he deserves to be starting across the board despite the poor night.

Analysis: Peja has picked up the scoring pace a bit with almost 17 points per game over his last five and will continue to score at a nice level with Paul and Chandler out. Fantasy owners should keep him active in any league as long as it lasts, especially in leagues that reward three-point shooting.

Analysis: Stojakovic is averaging 17 points and five rebounds per night over his last five contests and is picking up the pace shooting from long range. That is pretty much the best you can hope for out of the aging forward so continue to use him as a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward that is subject to going ice cold at times.
News: New Orleans SF Peja Stojakovic shot 4-of-12 on Saturday night in a win at Detroit and scored 10 points for the Hornets. He was 1-of-6 from beyond the arc and had six boards.
Analysis: Stojakovic is not the player he once was and is averaging 12 points and five boards per game over his last five. That comes with two threes per night. He can still score from downtown but he's mostly just a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward and is subject to going ice cold at times.
News: Hornets SF Peja Stojakovic did not play well in Monday's loss to the Knicks and he scored just eight points despite taking 12 shots. He was just 3-of-12 from the field in the game with two threes. He did grab six rebounds and dish out four assists.
Analysis: Peja is not the man who was once one of the NBA's great long distance shooters. He can still score from downtown but he's mostly just a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward as he's averaging just 10 points, five boards and two assists per game over his last five. He's shooting poorly as well.
News: New Orleans snapped a winning streak by losing at Denver on Saturday night but it wasn't because of SF Peja Stojakovic. Peja scored 19 points and added six rebounds as he connected on 4-of-9 long range shots.
Analysis: Peja has been struggling lately with just 13.5 points per game over his last four and is simply not a big-time scorer for the Hornets. He's good for threes but does little else worthy of mention in Fantasy. He's mostly just a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy forward.

Start him as a No. 3 or 4 Fantasy F, when healthy. Monitor his progress for now.

News:Peja Stojakovic sat out his third straight game with back soreness Tuesday night when the New Orleans Hornets hosted the Los Angeles Lakers. Scott did not want to guess whether Stojakovic would return for the Hornets' Christmas Day game at Orlando or home game Friday night against Houston. "We're not going to push him to try to play," Scott said. "We want to make sure that, in his mind, that he's fine, that he's comfortable, that he'll come back and give us everything he's got." Stojakovic missed most of 2006-07 because of surgery to remove a disk fragment in his lower back, but came back strong last season, starting 77 games. He has started 20 games this season, averaging 13.1 points. He is shooting 43 percent from 3-point range and leads the team in 3-pointers with 53.
Analysis: Stojakovic, 31, is now in his 11th NBA season, but Scott said he wasn't concerned that Stojakovic may be wearing down. "I'm not real worried right now. I'll start worrying a little bit more when the trainer starts to worry," Scott said. "Right now he said it's just a little soreness, something they expected with the surgery, so right now we're just doing everything to make sure when he comes back that he's healthy so we won't have a reoccurrence of it." Continue to monitor what happens with Stojakovic and hope he can return soon. When healthy, he is a No. 3 Fantasy forward.

Analysis: Stojakovic had only nine points on 2-of-7 shooting Tuesday at Memphis. He has averaged seven points over his last three games after averaging 19.8 over his previous five. News:Peja Stojakovic fell backward onto the court, his legs splayed as his feet swung upward almost comically. The quick fadeaway he had just released swished through, the referee whistled the Suns for a defensive foul and the New Orleans Arena crowd roared. It was the kind of flair for the dramatic the Hornets needed during a second-half surge that powered them to a 104-91 victory against the depleted but feisty Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. "I don't even know if the guy touched him, but we'll take it," Chris Paul said of the shooting foul that allowed Stojakovic to add a three-point play the hard way to the five other 3s he nailed from the perimeter. Analysis: Stojakovic remains a solid enough scorer to start as a No. 3 Fantasy forward, but keep an eye on this injury in case it ends up more than a day-to-day issue. He's already an injury risk for Week 2 (Nov. 3-9) as the Hornets play three times.

The three-game week concludes against a Cavaliers team that allowed 96.7 points per game.
Analysis: Chris Paul should get off to a great start against rookie point guard DeMarcus Nelson in the opener before moving on to face Steve Nash and Mo Williams. David West, Peja Stojakovic and Tyson Chandler should all get off to quick starts. But secondary players like Morris Peterson, James Posey, Julian Wright, Devin Brown and Mike James should not be used for now. They remain very low-end options in Fantasy.

News: Hornets SG Peja Stojakovic (groin) was back in the lineup Thursday vs. Minnesota.

Analysis: Stojakovic is now averaging 14.5 ppg in 12 games this season. He's getting plenty of minutes and has started shooting well, so as long as he gets the ball, he should continue to score. He doesn't do much other than score, but in standard Fantasy leagues, he deserves to start as a No. 4 guard or forward.

News: Hornets SG Peja Stojakovic made 10 of his 13 3-point attempts en route to a 36-point night Tuesday as New Orleans improved to 4-0 with a 118-104 win over the Lakers. The 10 threes are a new Hornets record.

News: Hornets SG/SF Peja Stojakovic scored 19 points with a rebound in Wednesday's season opener vs. Sacramento.
Analysis: Peja had a nice offensive output, but didn't offer much in the other categories. As long as he's healthy, the sharp shooter can be counted on to provide decent scoring and shooting percentages.
News: Hornets F/G Peja Stojakovic, starting at small forward in the team's preseason finale Friday against the Bobcats, finally found his shooting touch after struggling all preseason. He scored 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting in 28 minutes.
Analysis: Back problems cost Stojakovic almost all of last season, and he looked rusty so far in his return, averaging 8.3 ppg on 34.7 percent shooting before Friday. Because of continued injury concerns, Stojakovic might go unnoticed in many drafts, but he did average close to 18 points a game before getting hurt last season. If he can produce those numbers again this season, he would be a steal in the middle rounds on Draft Day.
News: Hornets SG Peja Stojakovic scored 10 points with five rebounds in Saturday's preseason game at Phoenix. He is averaging 10.0 ppg in three preseason contests.
Analysis: Because of injury worries, Stojakovic might slip down unnoticed in many drafts. He is probably worth a pick somewhere between rounds nine and 11 as a fourth or fifth guard. He did average close to 18 points a game before getting hurt last season, so if he can produce that kind of output again this season, he would be a steal that late.

News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic (back) was nearing a return in the final week of the regular season, but did not play in any of the final games.
Analysis: Peja should be back to 100 percent by the start of training camp, but injuries will likely be an issue with him from this stage on in his career. As long as he is healthy, he can be a high-end scorer. He'll be drafted in the first 10 rounds in all leagues.
News: Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic could miss the rest of this season because of severe soreness and stiffness in his surgically repaired back. Stojakovic, who had a disc fragment removed from his lower back on Dec. 17, returned to practice March 13 and participated in his first full court, five-on-five session March 23. But Stojakovic has complained of soreness throughout his body since returning to practice. On Monday, Hornets coach Byron Scott said Stojakovic might not play again after just 13 games this season.
Analysis: After signing a five-year contract last summer worth approximately $64 million, Stojakovic played in only 13 games for the Hornets this season, averaging 17.8 points and 4.2 rebounds. He should be fine for next season, but he is not worth holding onto at this point unless you are in a keeper league.
News: Peja Stojakovic is in no rush to return from a four-month absence. The Hornets' forward has only recently rejoined the team for full-contact practices, but he isn't making any predictions on when he'll return to the lineup after undergoing back surgery on Dec. 17. Hornets coach Byron Scott has ruled out Stojakovic's return on Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks or Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs. Stojakovic, who leads the team in scoring at 17.8 points per game in only 13 games, complains of severe soreness after practices. He has recently been playing games of three-on-three with the team's reserves, often struggling to make shots.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved until he proves healthy enough to play. Hopefully he can come back soon to help your Fantasy team in the playoffs.
News: Coach Byron Scott said he likely would bring forward Peja Stojakovic off the bench when the injured forward does return to the lineup. Scott said he would need to ease Stojakovic back into the rotation since he hasn't played since Nov. 24 because of a back injury that required surgery on Dec. 17.
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved until he's given clearance to play. It appears to be getting closer, which is a good sign for Fantasy owners who have remained patient.
News: Peja Stojakovic was cleared by team doctors to resume full-contact practice. He is expected to return to the lineup before the end of March. Hornets coach Byron Scott said he wants to see Stojakovic get four or five good practices in.
Analysis: Think about adding Peja in leagues in which he was abandoned. When healthy, his field goal percentage and scoring totals alone make him a No. 2 or 3 Fantasy forward in even the shallowest of leagues. At worst, add him so no one else can.
News: Hornets guard Peja Stojakovic went through practice drills with contact Wednesday for the first time since he had back surgery about three months ago. There was no timetable for when the three-time All-Star would return. He has been out since November. Stojakovic initially was diagnosed with back spasms, but the Hornets eventually determined he would need surgery to remove a disc fragment from his lower back. He had surgery on Dec. 17. He returned to individual drills, running and shooting before Wednesday, but had not been subjected to contact.
Analysis: Stojakovic, acquired by New Orleans in an offseason sign-and-trade deal with Indiana, averaged 17.8 points and shot 41 percent from 3-point range before he was sidelined. He had a career-high 42 points in a win against Charlotte and hit the winning 3-pointer in a victory at Minnesota as the Hornets got out to an 8-3 start. Stojakovic was not expected to play during a two-game East Coast swing that includes games at the New York Knicks on Friday and the Washington Wizards on Saturday. He is still out indefinitely, so there is no telling when he will return.
News: Although injured starting shooting guard Peja Stojakovic has made progress in his recovery from back surgery in December, Hornets head coach Byron Scott said he still doesn't know if he will return to the lineup by April, accoring to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "If he is back, it would be a great, pleasant surprise for all of us, a big boost," Scott said. "But right now, I'm not really counting on that."
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved until he's able to get back on the court. It doesn't appear that he'll be much help for Fantasy GMs until the last few weeks of the season, if that.
News: It's been exactly 10 weeks since Peja Stojakovic underwent surgery to remove a disc fragment in his lower back. Still, the Hornets forward is nowhere near ready to return to the court. That hasn't stopped Stojakovic from remaining hopeful of coming back before the end of the regular season, though. But with less than two months remaining, the question becomes, will he? "If I get 100 percent this year, I'm going to play, Stojakovic told the Oklahoman. "That's not a question."
Analysis: Keep Stojakovic reserved until he's able to get back on the court. It remains to be seen if that will happen this year.
News: Peja Stojakovic has been cleared by team doctors to resume traveling with the team. Stojakovic, who underwent back surgery on Dec. 17, had not traveled since Dec. 6. Stojakovic, however, still hasn't been cleared to start running and he is limited to light cardio exercises.
Analysis: Stojakovic is still not expected to return until mid-March if at all this season. He's only going to be able to help teams come the Fantasy playoffs it appears -- if that.
News: According to the Sacramento Bee, Hornets F Peja Stojakovic (back) may miss the remainder of the season. Head coach Byron Scott put his return as a "might", and when asked if Stojakovic is done for the season, said, "I think that's a realistic possibility. I think you have to be prepared for that. In Peja's situation, you have to be prepared for the worst."
Analysis: Fantasy owners have barely missed him. He's been one of the biggest busts of the season and is best left on the waiver wire outside of leagues with 12-plus teams. He's only going to be able to help teams come the Fantasy playoffs it appears -- if that.
News: According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Hornets F Peja Stojakovic might not play another game this season. The initial MRI test performed on Stojakovic's injured back earlier in December did not show that he had a disc fragment, Hornets coach Byron Scott said. But after a closer look performed by specialists hired by the Hornets revealed the injury, Stojakovic underwent surgery to correct the problem. "If we missed it, I'm sure Indiana missed it," Scott said. "I'm just saying it because he complained about it all last year. In my mind, it's been there for a few years."
Analysis: Scott said the team hasn't ruled out Stojakovic returning this season, but they will not make that determination until after the All-Star break in February. "I don't think none of us wants to say forget this season; I don't think Peja wants to do that," Scott said. "He feels he can comeback sooner and we've got to give him the benefit of the doubt." Scott said Stojakovic is likely to miss a couple of months, and is on an 8-12 week rehabilitation schedule. Stojakovic's Fantasy ownership has already dipped to 60 percent. If you can hold onto to him until the Hornets officially make a ruling on his status, it is recommended you do so. Prior to getting injured, Peja was averaging 17.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
News: Hornets starting shooting guard Peja Stojakovic, who had missed the past nine games because of back spasms, underwent surgery Sunday afternoon to remove a disc fragment in his lower back, according to The Oklahoman. No timetable has been set for his return. "Our main concern was to get Peja and David [West] healthy again," said Hornets general manager Jeff Bower in a statement. "After a series of evaluations, our medical staff determined that surgery was the best option for both of them."
Analysis: Peja could be sidelined for at least a month after the surgery and should be reserved in all leagues at this point. He's certainly worth hanging on to in leagues of 10-plus teams because of his scoring ability once he is able to return.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic (back) remained inactive for Saturday's game against the Mavs.
Analysis: There is still no definitive word on Stojakovic's return, so continue to keep him benched in all Fantasy leagues.

News: David West (right forearm strain), Stojakovic (back spasms) and Bobby Jackson (cracked rib) didn't play for the Hornets against Cleveland Monday, while Drew Gooden (strained left groin) was out for Cleveland and is listed as day-to-day.
Analysis: Both West and Stojakovic are solid starts in all leagues when healthy. Gooden's a useful No. 4 Fantasy forward.
News: According to The Oklahoman, Hornets F Peja Stojakovic (back spasms) will miss the team's next three games. He joined the team during the early part of Sunday's practice, but ducked out before the media was allowed in and was not available for comment.
Analysis: The Hornets say Stojakovic is progressing and was able to shoot some and ride a stationary bike for 20 minutes, but he'll likely be limited to just that until at least Thursday. Fantasy owners should get him out of their lineup ASAP because he won't play this week. Rasual Butler will make for a great pick up in Fantasy leagues this week as a result.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic (back) did not play Friday against the Bulls.
Analysis: Fantasy owners should keep Peja reserved until further notice and continue to monitor his health. He is still awaiting the results of an MRI exam. When healthy, he's still a must-start.
News: Hornets F Peja Stojakovic is considered doubtful for Friday's game vs. Chicago, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "We just have to take it as it comes," Byron Scott said. "Obviously, I wished they (Stojakovic and David West (elbow)) would be able to play Friday, but I'm going to make sure those guys are 100 percent. If that means the middle of December, then so be it."
Analysis: Middle of December? Hopefully not that long for Peja, but you never know. Fantasy owners should keep him reserved until further notice and continue to monitor his health. He is still awaiting the results of an MRI exam. When healthy, he's still a must-start.

News: The New Orleans Hornets' big offseason signing was about more than getting the player they felt was the best available. The Hornets completed their acquisition of three-time All-Star Peja Stojakovic through a sign-and-trade deal with Indiana on Wednesday. Stojakovic's agent, David Bauman, had said last week that Stojakovic would sign as a free-agent with New Orleans, but general manager Jeff Bower said the sign-and-trade deal was better for both sides. "I think now everybody around the league knows that we're serious about getting better and being a competitive basketball team," Hornets coach Byron Scott said. "We're serious about winning." Bauman has said Stojakovic's deal with the Hornets would be worth $64 million over five years.
Analysis: "I think this team has a lot of talent and it deserves to be in the playoffs," said Stojakovic, a two-time winner of the NBA's 3-point shooting contest who has averaged 18.4 points for his career. Stojakovic will be ready for training camp after a knee injury which forced him to miss four playoff games is 100 percent. Peja will couple with Chris Paul, Desmond Mason and the Hornets to improve their chances dramatically.
News: Peja Stojakovic signed a five-year contract with the NO/Oklahoma City Hornets over the weekend. The Indiana Pacers reportedly offered a longer deal, but it sounds like a lot less money. "I think it's safe to say we were extremely surprised based on the level of interest (in) Peja and that they traded Peja for Ron Artest," Peja's agent David Bauman said. "I will frankly say I was very surprised at where the Pacers came from."

News: The Indianapolis Star reports Peja Stojakovic opted out of the final year of his contract making him a free agent. However, the veteran would like to remain with the Pacers. "We are going to see what's out there and listen to what other teams have to say, but Peja is the Pacers' to lose," Stojakovic's agent, David Bauman, said. "The contract he signed before was done as a restricted free agent, so he didn't really get a chance to test the market."
Analysis: Stojakovic added that a knee injury which forced him to miss four playoff games is 100 percent and he will be ready for training camp. Expect Stojakovic and the Pacers to get something hammered out and for the veteran to be part of their plans for the next few seasons.
News: Peja Stojakovic missed Indiana's 90-75 first-round playoff loss to New Jersey on Tuesday night because of pain and fluid on his right knee. Analysis: Peja continues to be one of the best options in Rotisserie leagues for free-throw percentage. That's great for Fantasy owners in Rotisserie leagues, but Fantasy owners in head-to-head leagues are more interested in the 23 points he was able to drop on New York.

News: The Indiana Pacers traded volatile forward Ron Artest to the Sacramento Kings for Peja Stojakovic on Wednesday, a day after a deal between the teams all but fell apart. Artest reportedly balked at being dealt to the Kings, but met with Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh on Wednesday at Conseco Fieldhouse and apparently agreed to go to Sacramento.
Analysis: "Obviously, we're very happy about getting a player of (Stojakovic's) caliber," Pacers president Larry Bird said in a statement. "He's one of the best shooters in the league and we definitely feel he can help us right away." Stojakovic is the Kings' longest-tenured player, joining the club as an unheralded 21-year-old rookie in 1998 and becoming a three-time All-Star. But he is expected to void the final season of his contract to become a free agent this summer, and Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie decided to get something in return for his most successful draft pick. This trade should help his Fantasy value over the remainder of the season. Peja needed a change of scenery and he will be counted on to do a lot of scoring in Indiana.
News: According to published reports, the trade sending Ron Artest to Sacramento and Peja Stojakovic to Indiana is back on -- pending league approval. Ron Artest, along with his agent Mark Stevens, met with CEO Donnie Walsh and team president Larry Bird on Wednesday, one day after a deal to send the forward to Sacramento fell apart, the Indianapolis Star reported. Artest disputed media reports that he rejected the trade proposal Tuesday. "I'll go anywhere," Artest said by phone after he drove past a group of reporters waiting outside Conseco Fieldhouse. "I just want to get back on the basketball court and start playing again." Artest told the Star the meeting with Walsh and Bird was good.

News: According to reports, the trade that was supposed to send Ron Artest to the Kings for Peja Stojakovic has been called off because Ron Artest turned it down.
Analysis: What? Things can't get much weirder when it comes to Ron Artest. The story is far from over, but don't count anything out just yet. As flaky as Ron Artest is, he could change his mind by the time you finish reading this. Peja is still a member of the Kings, but it is unknown whether he'll suit up for Tuesday night's game.
News: According to reports, Ron Artest was traded to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Peja Stojakovic pending league approval.
Analysis: Peja will fill a similar role to what Artest did while he was with the Pacers. He will be able to stretch the court more that Artest thanks to his outside touch, but he'll likely be asked to become more active on the boards. A change of scenery may be just what the doctor ordered for Peja who hit a bit of a lull in Sacramento this season. Expect similar numbers to his 16.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg in Indiana for the time being.

He said the injury causes problems with a nerve that makes his right leg go weak. At one point in pregame warmups Friday, Stojakovic made 11 straight and 19 of 20 3-pointers he attempted. He said after walking off the court that he had yet to determine whether he would play.
