G Rajon Rondo lone regular starter to play for Mavericks on Monday

(4/13/2015) Mavericks guard Rajon Rondo is the lone regular starter who will play Monday for the Mavericks in Utah, the team has announced.

Center Tyson Chandler, forwards Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons and guard Monta Ellis will not play.

Chandler was already listed as doubtful with a knee injury. 

The Mavericks are 8-point favorites against the Jazz.

(4/13/2015) The Mavericks confirmed early resorts that they would rest forward Dirk Nowitzki, guard Monta Ellis and center Tyson Chandler for Monday's game against the Jazz. In addition, forward Chandler Parsons will miss his fifth straight contest with a knee injury. 

With all the moves, the Mavericks are 10.5 point underdogs against Utah.

(4/13/2015) The Mavericks could be down a few players Monday as the team prepares for its playoff push, reports ESPN.com.

Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis are reportedly flying back to Dallas with owner Mark Cuban Sunday instead of making the trip to Utah for Monday's game against the Jazz. Chandler scored 20 points on 9 of 10 shooting Sunday in 27 minutes.

It's the first game he's reached 20 points since Feb. 4.

Chandler scored 12 points and came down with 23 rebounds. Chandler went 5 of 9 from the field and made both of his free-throw attempts. This is the third time Chandler has posted 20 or more rebounds in a game this season.

Parsons said he hopes to return Sunday. Forward Richard Jefferson is expected to continue to receive an increased role with Parsons out.

Chandler said after Tuesday's win that he hopes to play tomorrow, but his availability won't be determined until Wednesday. He played 30 minutes while being limited offensively Tuesday, adding seven rebounds, three steals and one block.

Chandler sat out the team's last game before the break after playing just one minute in the penultimate game before the layoff. While his sprained ankle limited him in Tuesday's practice, he expected to play Thursday. He saw 33 minutes of action in the loss.

The Mavericks will move on to face the Rockets at home Friday.

(2/10/2015) Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle sounded optimistic that injured starters Tyson Chandler, Monta Ellis and Rajon Rondo would be able to return to action after the All-Star break, the Associated Press reports.

Carlisle indicated that Chandler's ankle sprain wasn't considered serious and that Rondo is improving in his return from orbital and nasal fractures, though the team has yet to rule out surgery for the injured point guard. The Mavericks are awaiting the results of an MRI taken on Ellis's injured hip.

"We've got to get our best players back on the court, but we have to do it in an expeditious but prudent fashion," Carlisle said.

The Mavericks entered Tuesday in fifth place in the Western Conference. Just 2 1/2 games separate the third-place and seventh-place teams in the conference playoff race. The Mavericks are 3 1/2-point favorites at home against the Jazz Wednesday.

(2/10/2015) Although the Mavericks did not provide many details on the injuries that knocked Monta Ellis (hip) and Tyson Chandler (ankle) out of Monday's loss to the Clippers, both are likely to sit out Wednesday's game against the Jazz, according to ESPN.

"Hopefully it's not going to be bad," star forward Dirk Nowitzki said following the game. "It's nothing we can really control now. We don't really expect either to play on Wednesday and we've got to be better. We've got to be better with what we've got."

Chandler landed awkwardly on his left ankle after being fouled by Spencer Hawes 39 seconds into the game. He never returned. Ellis exited with 8:03 remaining in the opening period with what coach Rock Carlisle indicated was "some kind of strain." He's due for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.

Wednesday's game against Utah will be Dallas' final game before the All-Star game, giving Ellis and Chandler plenty of recovery time for the final stretch of the season.

Chandler was seen noticeably limping on the court at the beginning of the first quarter, before having to head back to the locker room for evaluation. Chandler played just one minute and scored one point.

Chandler and the Mavericks dominated the Kings, holding all but two Sacramento players to seven points or less. The big man also chipped in one assist and one steal in 30 minutes while turning in his second straight performance with at least 16 points and 16 rebounds. He'll square off with the Blazers Saturday.

The double-double was just his second in the last seven games. Chandler also kicked in two steals and one assist in 34 minutes. The Mavericks will stay on the road and face the Kings Thursday.

Chandler had an X-ray performed on his left knee, which came back negative, after being helped off the floor to the locker room earlier in the game.
