Hornets, Cavaliers announce minor move

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/12/2014) The Cavaliers acquired center Brendan Haywood and the draft rights to Dwight Powell from the Hornets for guard Scotty Hopson, the team announced Saturday.

Haywood did not play at all for the Bobcats last year.

Brendan Haywood unlikely to return

(3/11/2014) Bobcats center Brendan Haywood has yet to play this season due to a fractured foot, and he does not seem to be making much progress. According to the Charlotte Observer, Haywood has yet to be cleared for any weight-bearing basketball activities, casting doubt on whether he will be able to play at any point this season.

Haywood still has one year left on his contract, so the Bobcats probably want to see him avoid any long-term issues as he works his way back.

Brendan Haywood slowly increasing activities

(2/8/2014) Bobcats center Brendan Haywood, who is rehabbing from a stress fracture in his left foot, hopes to start playing at some point in the next few weeks, according to the Charlotte Observer on Saturday.

Haywood discovered the injury in the preseason, which has caused him to miss at least the first half of the season. He is currently only limited to jog, shoot, do some light jumping and start weight training with his legs.

"It's not like an (anterior cruciate ligament), where you can double up the work and get back quicker," Haywood said. "You really can't do anything for it."

(10/17/2013) The Bobcats announced Thursday that center Brendan Haywood underwent surgery on his left foot to reinforce his stress fracture and help it heal, according to Yahoo! Sports.

The surgery is expected to keep Haywood out for at least three months before he has a follow-up CT scan to see his progress.

(10/11/2013) Bobcats center Brendan Haywood has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left foot, according to the Charlotte Observer. He is scheduled to have surgery which will keep him out for at least the first 12 weeks of the regular season.

Haywood was limited to 61 games last season because of a similar issue. In fact, he was shut down for the remainder of the 2012-13 season late March because of a stress reaction in his ankle. He averaged only 3.5 points and 4.8 rebounds while logging 19.0 minutes of game action last season.
