(11/29/2012) The Mavericks officially released veteran forward Troy Murphy Thursday, in order to make room for the signing of guard Derek Fisher. Murphy appeared in 14 games with Dallas before the release.

Murphy started the 2010-11 season in New Jersey and ended up with Boston following a buyout when he was traded to Golden State. He played in only 35 games and averaged a career-low 3.1 points per game. Murphy had averaged at least 14 points per game while playing with Indiana in the previous two seasons.

Murphy recently told the New York Times that his experience with Boston was “Exasperating. If you had told me it would have been like this, I would never have believed you.” Murphy started the year in New Jersey and ended up with the Celtics following a buyout when he was traded to Golden State. He finished the season on the bench and not part of Doc Rivers' rotation. “You can’t look back,” Murphy said. “You make a decision and you stick with it. Murphy missed his sixth consecutive game Sunday against Detroit since spraining his right ankle in practice on March 24. "I think [Murphy will be back] soon," Rivers said. "I know he felt better. He worked out today, so I would say maybe next game. I don't know that, but I think he's going to be back soon."
