Matt Barnes plays despite strep throat

(4/10/2014) Clippers forward Matt Barnes was able to play 29 minutes Wednesday against the Thunder, despite dealing with strep throat.  He scored seven points on 3 of 9 shooting, adding seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks in a 107-101 loss.

Barnes has seen his production drop off a tad from last season, but not in a particularly drastic way. He is averaging 9.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 60 appearances.

(2/23/2014) Clippers forward Matt Barnes caught fire from downtown on Sunday, knocking down six triples in his team's 125-117 victory over the Thunder in Oklahoma City.

Barnes was the second-leading scorer with 24 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field, including 6 of 10 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with seven rebounds, one assist and two steals while logging 33 minutes of game action. He is averaging 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists over his last five games.

Barnes was probable to play Monday after suffering a swollen left thumb in his previous game. He also tallied five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 27 minutes of action. Barnes has averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds over 24 games played.


Three Clippers suffer injuries vs. Pacers

(1/18/2014) The Los Angeles Times reports that Clippers guards J.J. Redick Darren Collison, and Matt Barnes all suffered injuries in Saturday's loss to the Pacers in Indiana.

Redick has bruised left knee, Collison a sprained left big toe and Barnes a swollen left thumb. X-rays on Barnes' thumb came big back negative, according to ESPN. All three players are probable for Monday's game at Detroit.

Barnes played 22 mintues in the win while racking up three rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in his return. He has averaged 6.7 points and 4.1 rebounds over nine games played.

(12/20/2013) Clippers coach Doc Rivers revealed that forward Matt Barnes will return Saturday after a 16-game absence caused by a torn retina, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Barnes, who will wear clear goggles while on the court to protect his eyes, underwent multiple surgeries on the eye, which was injured on Nov. 18. He suited up for Wednesday's game but did not play.

"I had no plans on playing him [Wednesday]," Rivers said. "I told him, 'Listen, you just never know. I'll throw you in. I have no fear of that.' But I didn't want to. He worked out [Thursday]. We brought in four of the guys just to run him through stuff. Then he gets a real practice today. So that'll be good."

Barnes has averaged 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in eight games played this season.

(12/18/2013) Clippers forward Matt Barnes has been cleared to return to action Wednesday provided he wears goggles on the court, the Los Angeles Times reports.

It's up to head coach Doc Rivers whether he wants to throw Barnes back into the fire immediately, but he's received clearance to play after undergoing three eye surgeries in the span of two weeks. He has averaged 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in eight games played.

(11/21/2013) The Clippers announced Thursday that forward Matt Barnes will miss at least two weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a retinal tear in his left eye.

Barnes suffered the injury in Monday's game against the Grizzlies. He has played 20 minutes per game this season, averaging 5.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

(11/20/2013) Clippers forward Matt Barnes did not travel on his team's two-game road trip and will miss both games due to a left eye contusion, NBA.com reports.

Barnes suffered the injury when he was inadvertantly hit by Zach Randolph during a loose ball. Barnes has averaged 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds while playing 20 minutes per game over eight games. His status for his team's home game against the Kings Saturday is unknown.


NBA fines Matt Barnes for inappropriate language

(11/14/2013) The NBA has fined Clippers forward Matt Barnes $25,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely manner and inappropriate language on Twitter, the league announced Thursday.

Barnes used the language in a tweet that said he was through sticking up for his teammates after being ejected from Wednesday night's win over the Thunder. He has since deleted the tweet.

(11/14/2013) Thunder forward Serge Ibaka and Clippers guard Matt Barnes were both ejected for an altercation before halftime Wednesday.

Ibaka and Blake Griffin found themselves tangled up while fighting for a rebound. Ibaka shoved Griffin and Barnes retaliated by shoving him back. Both players were separated by the officials.

Barnes went 0 for 5 shooting from the field and was held scoreless in eight minutes of game action before he was tossed. Ibaka made all six of his field goal attempts and finished the game with 13 points, two rebounds and one assist while logging 17 minutes before the ejection.

Barnes came off the bench and went 3 of 5 shooting from the field, including two missed attempts from downtown. He finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block while logging 22 minutes of game action.

Barnes fell one point and two rebounds shy of his first double-double of the season. He had just one last season. He is averaging 6.6 points and 4.6 boards through five games played.

(11/6/2013) Clippers forward Matt Barnes will miss Wednesday's game at Orlando due to a calf injury, the Los Angeles Times reports. Barnes is day to day. 

Barnes has been dealing with a calf strain since the preseason but has been able to play in four games for the Clippers thus far. He's averaged 6.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists with a steal and almost a 3-pointer per night. 

Barnes will hope to return to action on Thursday at Miami but could miss that game as well, according to coach Doc Rivers.

(10/26/2013) Clippers forward Matt Barnes, who had been dealing with a calf strain, made his preseason debut in Friday's finale against the Kings.

Barnes, who earned the start, struggled to make much of an impact as he missed all five of his field goal attempts. He did knock down all four of his shots from the charity stripe and finished the game with four points, three rebounds and three assists while logging 21 minutes of game action. He fouled out with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

(10/19/2013) The Clippers ruled out the following the following players for Saturday's preseason game against the Nuggets in Las Vegas: J.J. Redick (quad), Matt Barnes (calf), Reggie Bullock (knee) and Jamal Crawford (rest).

The Clippers have two preseason games remaining before the start of the season. The Clippers will open the season on Oct. 29 against the Lakers at Staples Center.
