Clippers rule Crawford (calf), Barnes (hamstring) out Wednesday

(3/4/2015) The Clippers ruled guard Jamal Crawford and forward Matt Barnes out of Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers, the team announced.

Crawford suffered a right calf contusion during Monday's contest. Guard Austin Rivers is expected to see an increase in minutes with Crawford out. Meanwhile, Barnes has been dealing with a strained hamstring, which caused him to miss Monday's game. Forward Glen Davis could see an expanded role with Barnes sidelined.

The Clippers are pick 'em against the Blazers.

(3/3/2015) Clippers small forward Matt Barnes spoke about the decision to hold him out of Monday's game against the Timberwolves, saying that the team was being cautious with his injured hamstring, NBA.com reports.

"It’s just something right now we want to play kind of cautious," Barnes said. "I don’t want this to linger on, especially, you know, we’re in the home stretch of the season right now. We have kind of a spaced out schedule which is kind of rare for us right now."

Barnes indicated that he would have played Monday had it been a playoff game after straining his hamstring the previous day.

(3/2/2015) Though he was listed officially as questionable, Clippers forward Matt Barnes will not suit up Monday against the Timberwolves. 

Clippers coach Doc Rivers told reporters during his media availability that Barnes is unlikely to play in Monday night's game. However, via the Orange County Register, Barnes said he'd play if Monday night was a playoff game, essnetially ruling himself out. 

Barnes sustained a right hamstring injury in Sunday's win over the Bulls. 

This season, Barnes has averaged 9.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 57 games.

(3/1/2015) Clippers forward Matt Barnes is considered questionable for Monday's game against the Timberwolves, according to ESPN.

Barnes suffered a right hamstring injury in Sunday's win, leaving his status for Monday in doubt. The veteran is averaging 9.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 57 games this season.

The Clippers are currently 8 1/2-point favorites Monday.

(3/1/2015) Clippers SF Matt Barnes injured his right hamstring during Sunday's win over the Bulls. After the game, coach Doc Rivers said the hamstring was strained, and it was likely that Barnes wouldn't play in Monday's game at the Timberwolves. 

Barnes returned to Sunday's game after suffering the injury. He scored six points in 34 minutes.

(2/6/2015) Clippers F Matt Barnes was ejected from a 105-94 loss to the Cavaliers on Thursday. 

Barnes picked up two technicals early in the third quarter, as the Cavaliers built a lead that would grow as large as 32 points. The Clippers were whistled for five technical fouls in the game, including four in a three-minute, six-second span in the third quarter.

Barnes picked up his first technical for shoving Kevin Love. Soon after, he was hit with a second technical foul, resulting in his ejection, for something he said to official Eric Lewis. Teammates had to restrain Barnes from going after Lewis. 

Barnes finished his night with four points on 2-of-5 shooting.

The Clippers next play Friday night at the Raptors.

(1/28/2015) Clippers small forward Matt Barnes said he would play Wednesday against the Jazz, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Barnes suffered a strained abdominal muscle in the fourth quarter of Monday's win over the Nuggets, scoring 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting. He's averaged 9.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 43 games.

(1/27/2015) Clippers forward Matt Barnes was great from the field Monday against the Nuggets, going 7 of 11 and finishing with 18 points. Unfortunately, it was not all good news for Barnes, who aggravated a strained abdominal muscle in the fourth quarter, according to the Associated Press.

Barnes scored in double figures Monday for the first time in four games. Although, he is averaging a season-best 12.5 points per game in 12 January appearances.


Clippers' Doc Rivers unclear on backup small forward position

(1/18/2015) Clippers coach Doc Rivers is still trying to figure out who will fill in the backup small forward position. After trading Reggie Bullock to the Suns to acquire his son, Austin, Rivers left the door open to anyone being able to fill the void on Saturday.

"It could be anyone. It’s not that big of an issue for me. Reggie was playing 10 minutes a game," Rivers said. "We feel like we have enough guys who can cover for him."

The Clippers signed Dahntay Jones to a 10-day contract Wednesday and played five minutes in Saturday's win. Since the trade, however, starting small forward Matt Barnes has played 40 minutes per game, well above his normal 28.5 minutes.

(1/18/2015) Clippers small forward Matt Barnes matched a season high with 26 points on 10 of 15 shooting, including 4 of 9 shooting from behind the arc, while hauling in a season-high 10 rebounds in his team's 117-108 win over the Kings Saturday.

Barnes turned in his best line of the season, playing 40 minutes while posting his first double-double before fouling out late. He also chipped in three steals, one assist and one block in the win. The Clippers move on to face the Celtics Monday.


Farmar, Barnes to be game-time decisions for Clippers

Barnes turned the ball over a season-high five times Friday but was able to bounce back in a big way Saturday, scoring a season-high 26 points. He's averaged 9.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 21 games.

Barnes and J.J. Redick (25 points) managed to carry the offense on a night where the pair's three-point shooting was impeccable. Barnes, who hadn't topped 17 points in a game before Saturday, also kicked in two steals, one rebound and one block in 32 minutes. The Clippers take a two-game losing streak into Monday's meeting with the Pistons.

Barnes was benched in favor of Jamal Crawford a week ago but still averaged 23.5 minutes over the last two games, both as a substitute. He has scored just 6.3 points per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field.

(11/8/2014) The Clippers will start Jamal Crawford at small forward Saturday and send Matt Barnes to the bench, the Orange County Register reports.

Crawford has averaged 20.2 points in his four games while shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range. Barnes has fared far worse, averaging 6.4 points in five games while shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and 26.3 percent from three-point range.

Both of Barnes' shooting percentages are far below his career marks, so it's possible he'll eventually get things turned around, but it looks like the Clippers are content turning to Crawford to help jump start the offense.

(4/10/2014) Clippers forward Matt Barnes was able to play 29 minutes Wednesday against the Thunder, despite dealing with strep throat.  He scored seven points on 3 of 9 shooting, adding seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks in a 107-101 loss.

Barnes has seen his production drop off a tad from last season, but not in a particularly drastic way. He is averaging 9.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 60 appearances.

Barnes was the second-leading scorer with 24 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field, including 6 of 10 from downtown, and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with seven rebounds, one assist and two steals while logging 33 minutes of game action. He is averaging 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists over his last five games.
