Grizzlies acquire Matt Barnes for Luke Ridnour

(6/25/2015) The Grizzlies have acquired guard Matt Barnes in a trade with the Hornets for veteran point guard Luke Ridnour, according to a report from Yahoo Sports. 

Barnes just came to the Hornets earlier this month in a deal with the Clippers, but Charlotte was not expected to retain the shooting guard, who averaged 10.1 points and 4.0 rebounds this past season. 

Ridnour, who was just dealt to the Grizzlies on Wednesday, has been contemplating retirement after 12 seasons in the league. 


Hornets deal Lance Stephenson for Spencer Hawes, Matt Barnes

(6/15/2015) The Hornets have acquired both Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes in a trade with the Clippers.

Charlotte sent the Clippers Lance Stephenson in return. 

Barnes, however, isn't likely to stay with the Hornets very long. The report also states that Barnes is likely to be bought out of his contract before July 1 so that the Hornets only owe him $1 million of the $3.5 million on the deal. 

Barnes averaged 10.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game this past season. Hawes averaged 5.8 points and 3.5 rebounds.

(6/15/2015) The Clippers and Hornets have been involved in trade discussions for Hornets guard Lance Stephenson, sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Clippers are reportedly willing to include forwards Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes in the deal.

Stephenson is coming off a disappointing first season in Charlotte. Over 61 games, he averaged 8.2 points on less than 38 percent shooting.

The incident occurred during the Game 2 loss to the Rockets. The language was directed toward Rockets guard James Harden's mother.

(5/8/2015) Clippers teammate Matt Barnes has been told by Chris Paul that he will play Friday night in Game 3 of the playoff series against the Rockets, the Orange County Register has reported. Paul was sidelined the first two games with a hamstring injury, but the Clippers managed a split in Houston.

Nothing in regard to Paul's status has been made official.

Barnes has a sore right shoulder and was spotted with an ice pack on it after practice. He was already considered probable heading in. Barnes only scored four points in 23 points in Game 4.

Barnes started in the Clippers' Game 4 win on Sunday, scoring four points in 23 minutes.


Clippers coach Doc Rivers would rest players down the season's stretch run

(3/24/2015) Clippers coach Doc Rivers recently indicated he would consider resting his key players during the 11 remaining regular-season games if he believes it will help during the playoffs, reports the L.A. Daily News.

Point guard Chris Paul has never played in all 82 games but has been in 71 so far this season. Paul will be 30 in May and Rivers said if a game off is best for the team's quarterback, then so be it.

“The 82 thing is an individual thing,” Rivers said of Paul’s goal to play all 82 games. “That does nothing for our team. If resting him at some point we feel is the best thing for him, then he’s going to have to take that hit.”

Starting small forward Matt Barnes is 35. Blake Griffin is five games into a return after being out five weeks with an elbow injury.

DeAndre Jordan has played in 311 consecutive regular-season games, the longest active streak in the league.

The Clippers currently hold the fifth spot in the Western Conference.

Crawford suffered a right calf contusion during Monday's contest. Guard Austin Rivers is expected to see an increase in minutes with Crawford out. Meanwhile, Barnes has been dealing with a strained hamstring, which caused him to miss Monday's game. Forward Glen Davis could see an expanded role with Barnes sidelined.

"It’s just something right now we want to play kind of cautious," Barnes said. "I don’t want this to linger on, especially, you know, we’re in the home stretch of the season right now. We have kind of a spaced out schedule which is kind of rare for us right now."

(2/6/2015) Clippers F Matt Barnes was ejected from a 105-94 loss to the Cavaliers on Thursday. 

Barnes picked up two technicals early in the third quarter, as the Cavaliers built a lead that would grow as large as 32 points. The Clippers were whistled for five technical fouls in the game, including four in a three-minute, six-second span in the third quarter.

Barnes picked up his first technical for shoving Kevin Love. Soon after, he was hit with a second technical foul, resulting in his ejection, for something he said to official Eric Lewis. Teammates had to restrain Barnes from going after Lewis. 

Barnes finished his night with four points on 2-of-5 shooting.

The Clippers next play Friday night at the Raptors.

(1/27/2015) Clippers forward Matt Barnes was great from the field Monday against the Nuggets, going 7 of 11 and finishing with 18 points. Unfortunately, it was not all good news for Barnes, who aggravated a strained abdominal muscle in the fourth quarter, according to the Associated Press.

Barnes scored in double figures Monday for the first time in four games. Although, he is averaging a season-best 12.5 points per game in 12 January appearances.


Clippers' Doc Rivers unclear on backup small forward position

(1/18/2015) Clippers coach Doc Rivers is still trying to figure out who will fill in the backup small forward position. After trading Reggie Bullock to the Suns to acquire his son, Austin, Rivers left the door open to anyone being able to fill the void on Saturday.

"It could be anyone. It’s not that big of an issue for me. Reggie was playing 10 minutes a game," Rivers said. "We feel like we have enough guys who can cover for him."

The Clippers signed Dahntay Jones to a 10-day contract Wednesday and played five minutes in Saturday's win. Since the trade, however, starting small forward Matt Barnes has played 40 minutes per game, well above his normal 28.5 minutes.
