Report: Suns expected to waive John Salmons, Kendall Marshall

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/19/2015) The Suns are expected to waive small forward John Salmons and point guard Kendall Marshall after acquiring the pair in deadline deals Thursday, the Arizona Republic reports.

Salmons was part of the three-team deal that saw the Suns receive two first-round picks while shipping out Goran Dragic. Marshall is reportedly coming to the Suns in the three-team deal that will bring Brandon Knight to Phoenix and send a first-round pick along with Tyler Ennis and Miles Plumlee out of town.

Heat acquire Suns G Goran Dragic in three-team trade

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2/19/2015) The Heat have finalized a deal to acquire embattled Suns guard Goran Dragic in a multiteam just moments before Thursday's trade deadline, Marc Stein of ESPN reports. The trade also includes the Pelicans, according to the Sun Sentinel. The teams announced the trade Thursday night.

Miami shipped Danny Granger and two future first-round picks, a top-seven protected 2017 first-round pick and an unprotected 2021 first-round pick, to Phoenix. Goran's brother, Zoran Dragic, was also included in the deal and will head to Miami. The Pelicans received Justin Hamilton, Norris Cole and Shawne Williams from Miami, and shipped John Salmons, who will be waived, to Phoenix.

Dragic was on the trading block for the last week after he told reporters he didn't trust the Suns' front office heading into free agency at the end of the season. Miami was on the list of Dragic's preferred destinations (Knicks, Lakers) prior to the deadline, and the deal was made with the belief that he'll sign a contract extension with Miami in July, per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

The 28-year-old posted career-best numbers in points per game (20.3) and field goal percentage (50.5) last season. This season, he is averaging 12 points, 4.5 assists and 2.2 turnovers per game while shooting 50.1 percent from the field in 52 games. According to the Palm Beach Post, Dragic's 35.5 percent accuracy from 3-point range is down from 40.8 last year, but would rank fifth on Miami's roster.

Cole will be a free agent this offseason and wasn't expected to return to Miami before the deal was made, per the Associated Press. Meanwhile, New Orleans and Williams are expected to reach an agreement on a contract buyout, per Wojnarowski.

(7/11/2014) The Hawks officially waived forward John Salmons Friday, after acquiring him in a cap-clearing move at the draft.

Salmons was due a $7 million salary for 2014-15 season, but the Hawks were able to waive him while paying just $1 million of that. He averaged just 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 78 games for the Raptors and Kings last season.

Hawks swap Lou Williams for Raptors' John Salmons

by Joe Polito | CBSSports.com
(6/30/2014) The Raptors improved their backcourt depth Sunday by acquiring guard Lou Williams in a deal with the Hawks. According to Yahoo Sports, Atlanta receives forward John Salmons, and Atlanta also obtain the rights to Lucas Nogueira.

Williams played sparingly for the Hawks after returning form knee surgery. He averaged 10.4 points and 3.5 assists on the year. Salmons was sent to Toronto in the Rudy Gay trade but failed to make an impact. Nogueira was the No. 13 overall pick in the 2013 draft and played center in the Spanish ACB League last season.

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/26/2014) The Raptors will likely waive forward John Salmons in the coming days, if they cannot find a trade partner, reports the Toronto Sun Wednesday.

Salmons is due $7 million next season, but the Raptors can cut that to $1 million if he is waived by June 30. Salmons was acquired by the Raptors in a midseason trade with the Kings, appearing in 60 games off the bench and averaging 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(2/25/2014) Raptors forward John Salmons was able to play through back soreness Tuesday against the Cavaliers, but struggled to make any kind of impact in the 99-93 win. Salmons played 20 scoreless minutes, missing his two field-goal attempts while adding just one rebound and one assist.

John Salmons just misses double-double vs. Denver

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2/1/2014) Raptors forward John Salmons enjoyed a solid performance on Friday, as he fell one assist shy of his first double-double since December of 2012 in his team's 100-90 victory over the Nuggets in Denver.

Salmons handed out nine assists, and scored 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting, including 3 of 4 from downtown. He also chipped in with one rebounds and two steals. He has averaged 6.8 points and 2.6 assists over his last five games played.

John Salmons plays 17 minutes vs. Bobcats

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1/20/2014) Raptors forward John Salmons played 17 minutes Monday after missing his previous game with a back injury, but he was held scoreless while missing his only field-goal attempt in his team's 100-95 loss to the Bobcats.

Salmons was a game-time decision Monday due to back spasms, and it's likely the injury overwhelmed his potential production on the court. He has averaged 6.2 points and 24.6 minutes over 37 games played.

John Salmons finding his stroke recently

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/15/2014) Raptors forward John Salmons scored in double figures for the third game in a row Wednesday against the Celtics, in an 88-83 loss.

Salmons has been shooting the ball welling during his streak, as he connected on 5 of 9 from the field and 3 of 5 from three-point range to finish with 13 points. He has now made multiple 3-pointers in each of his last three games, and added two assists, two steals and one block and rebound each in 27 minutes in the loss.

Salmons is averaging 7.1 points per game since being traded to Toronto, an improvement over his 5.8 points-per-game average prior to the trade.

John Salmons scores 14 points vs. Thunder

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/22/2013) Raptors forward John Salmons scored 14 points on 5 of 12 shooting in his team's 104-98 win over the Thunder Sunday.

It was Salmons' highest-scoring effort since coming to the Raptors from Sacramento, and the 14-point affair matched his overall season high. He also recorded three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 31 minutes off the bench. Salmons has averaged 6.3 points in 23 games played.

New Raptors look rusty Friday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/13/2013) Playing their first games in a new system, the three Raptors players acquired in last week's trade from Sacramento did not look great Friday against the 76ers.

Guard Greivis Vasquez was the best of the three, but he struggled to make plays in the new system. Vasquez scored 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, but had just two assists and four turnovers in 17 minutes.

Vasquez looked more comfortable than forwards Patrick Patterson or John Salmons, however, who combined to shoot just 2 of 8 from the field. Patterson scored five points with five rebounds in 19 minutes, while Salmons scored three points with two rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes, in the 108-100 win.

John Salmons shipped to Toronto

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/8/2013) The Raptors have reportedly agreed to a seven-player deal with the Kings, who are sending forward John Salmons and three other players to Toronto.

Salmons was a key piece to sending Rudy Gay to Sacramento due to having a salary of a little more than $7.5 million. He is due to make $7 million next season, but only $1 million of his contract is guaranteed if he's waived before June 30, 2014, which seems likely to happen.

Salmons ends a tenure in Sacramento that included 72 starts last season by scoring 5.8 points per game this season while shooting 35 percent from the field.

(4/14/2013) Kings forward John Salmons was able to deliver somewhat of a bounce-back performance during Sunday's blowout loss to the Rockets.
