News: Houston Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo said his lengthy career is finished after a knee injury knocked him out of the Rockets' playoff game Tuesday night against the Trail Blazers. "For me, basketball is over," he said. Mutombo, an 18-year NBA veteran, appeared to get tangled with Portland center Greg Oden and came down hard on his left leg late in the first quarter of Game 2 and did not return. He stayed prone on the court under the Blazers' basket for several moments before he was taken away by stretcher. A preliminary examination revealed a knee strain. Afterward in Houston's locker room, the 7-foot-2 veteran was on crutches and fighting back tears. Mutombo, the league's oldest player at 42, will be examined by doctors in Houston on Wednesday. "Dikembe is one of the statesmen of this league," teammate Shane Battier said. "There's not a better guy. To see him in pain is tough to see. He cares so much about this game that he doesn't want to end his career like that. That's the tragedy of it, too."
Analysis: Mutombo is an eight-time All-Star who won the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award four times and stands in second on the NBA's career blocks list with 3,289. He has played for Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York and Houston. In 1,196 career games, Mutombo has averaged 9.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. Mutombo played 18 minutes in Game 1 of the series and had nine rebounds. The Rockets won the opener, 108-81, before the Blazers evened the series with a 107-103 victory on Tuesday. "I've had a wonderful 18 years of staying injury-free, so I just want to go out with my head up, no regrets," he said. Mutombo's days of having Fantasy value will end if he does in fact retire.
News: Houston Rockets reserve center Dikembe Mutombo injured his left knee in Tuesday night's playoff game against the Trail Blazers and left the court on a stretcher. Mutombo appeared to get tangled with Portland center Greg Oden and came down hard on the leg late in the first quarter of Game 2. Mutombo stayed prone on the court under the Blazers' basket for several moments before he was taken from the court. A preliminary examination revealed a knee strain and he was ruled out the rest of the game. Mutombo played 18 minutes in Game 1 of the series and had nine rebounds. The Rockets won the opener, 108-81.
Analysis: The veteran shot blocking specialist was not worth much in Fantasy at his advanced age. Still, the NBA may be losing one of its greatest interior defenders if he cannot return. This could be the end of the road on his illustrious career.
News: Houston center Yao Ming, who missed Friday's game against Golden State with soreness in his right foot, is expected to return to the floor Monday night against the Hornets. Yao had an MRI on Saturday that came out with good news. Yao did not practice Sunday but was called probable to play. "He's fine," coach Rick Adelman said. "He didn't do anything (Sunday). They think (Monday), he is going to be fine. I think any big guy who has had problems, when something happens, you're always worried about them."
Analysis: Dikembe Mutombo made a rare start in place of Yao on Friday and came up with his biggest game in more than a year, scoring 10 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to lead the Rockets to a 113-109 win over the Golden State Warriors. With Yao back, Mutombo will head to the bench. Keep Mutombo reserved in all leagues now.
News:Dikembe Mutombo, who turns 43 in June, made a rare start in place of injured center Yao Ming and came up with his biggest game in more than a year, scoring 10 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to lead the Rockets to a 113-109 win over the Golden State Warriors on Friday. "All I knew was if I could go out and do the things I love to do, which is playing defense, rebounding, blocking shots and controlling the paint, our team would have a chance to win," said Mutombo, who added four blocked shots while logging a season-high 36 minutes.
Analysis: Despite the blast-from-the-past night that Deke enjoyed, Fantasy owners should nto expect him to repeat the feat -- possibly for whatever is left in his Hall of Fame worthy career. Yao is day to day with a foot injury and Mutombo will return to his limited bench role likely in the team's next game. It's just nice to see a good guy like Mutombo still getting it done, even if just for one night, at age 42.
News: Houston led the Lakers 38-34 when Dikembe Mutombo made his season debut with 8:01 left in the first half of Tuesday's contest. The 42-year-old Mutombo had two baskets and an offensive rebound in just over four minutes of action.
Analysis: Mutombo should not be owned in any leagues at this time. He is only a good insurance policy in case Yao gets hurt.
News: The Houston Rockets have re-signed 42-year-old center Dikembe Mutombo for the rest of the season. The move gives the Rockets an emotional leader and a backup to Yao Ming. Mutombo appeared in 39 games for Houston last season, logging most of his minutes after Yao broke his left foot in February. Mutombo averaged five rebounds, three points and 1.2 blocks. He became a free agent after last season and contemplated retirement before deciding to come back for an 18th season.
Analysis: Mutombo should not be owned in any leagues at this time. He is only a good insurance policy in case Yao gets hurt.
News: Two of the three teams the Rockets will face in Fantasy Week 1 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2) allowed over 106 points per game last season and both Memphis and Oklahoma City have done little to shore up their defense.
Analysis: That bodes well for the team's big scorers, Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming. Ron Artest should also get off to a quick start with his new team. It also means secondary options like Luis Scola and Rafer Alston could be in for strong starts. Shane Battier is dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of the entire preseason and when he returns, it will likely come off the bench. He's not a recommended starter for Week 1 and likely won't be for a while. We don't recommend starting low-end options like Carl Landry, Aaron Brooks, Luther Head, Dikembe Mutombo, Chuck Hayes or Steve Francis despite the good matchups.
News: Rockets general manager Daryl Morey met with Dikembe Mutombo on Tuesday and said the 41-year-old backup center will decide in a week to two weeks whether he will return for an 18th season or retire.
Analysis: The 7-foot-2 Mutombo filled in when Yao Ming broke his foot in February, averaging 16 minutes and three points a game. His Fantasy appeal is minimal heading into the upcoming season even if he does choose to return as Yao Ming is expected to be healthy and Mutombo would play a very limited role off the bench.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo scored 11 points for the second straight game in Thursday's win at Portland. He added five rebounds and three blocks.
Analysis: At this late stage of the season, trusting the 41-year-old is more than risky. Fantasy owners can think of him in a pinch as he has returned to the starting lineup, but we wouldn't recommend him if you can avoid it.
News: The Rockets went to a different lineup Friday at Golden State. They moved Tracy McGrady from shooting guard to small forward and moved Luis Scola from power forward to center. Dikembe Mutombo was moved to the bench.
Analysis: We aren't sure how long this move will last, but Fantasy owners should not be surprised. Mutombo was only playing around 20 minutes per game even as a starter and is just not in a stage in his career where he can be put in a prominent role.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo had 4 points with 7 rebounds in Thursday's win at Dallas while starting once again at center. He played 19 minutes and was 2-for-3 from the field.
Analysis: The 41-year-old should continue to start for the Rockets at center with Yao Ming out for the year, but he likely won't play much more than 20 minutes per game. That makes it tough for him to produce much more than he did on Thursday.
News:Dikembe Mutombo, who now takes over as the Rockets starting center with Yao Ming out for the season, had four points, six rebounds and four blocks in 23 minutes Tuesday against the Wizards.
Analysis: Mutombo had averaged only 8.1 minutes per game and is 41 years old, so his Fantasy value is clearly limited. Scoop him up only in deeper leagues.
News: According to the Houston Chronicle, Rockets center Yao Ming will be out the rest of the season and post-season with a stress fracture in his sore left foot. Yao was examined after Monday's practice and met Rockets team physician Dr. Tom Clanton to go over the test results. The Rockets plan to announce a diagnosis Tuesday afternoon. For the season, Yao is averaging 22.0 points and 10.8 rebounds.
Analysis: Dikembe Mutombo will now see more playing time at center. He is only averaging 8.1 minutes per game with 0.5 points and 2.4 rebounds, so his Fantasy value is limited. He should only be added in deep leagues at this time.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo has not appeared in a game since Feb. 2 at Milwaukee.
Analysis: Mutombo has appeared in just 14 games this season and is playing more of a coaching role for the team than anything else. Ignore him in Fantasy.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo played a team-low seven minutes in Tuesday's season-opening win at the Lakers. He did not score and had just an assist and two fouls.
Analysis: Mutombo is on his self-proclaimed farewell tour this season and doesn't figure to be getting enough playing time to help your Fantasy team. He's still a nice shot-blocker when playing, but he does not need to be owned at this time.
News: The Houston Rockets signed Dikembe Mutombo to a one-year contract on Monday, extending the 41-year-old center's NBA career into a 16th season. "I'm going to enjoy every second and every minute of my last year in the NBA," he said. "I hope my farewell tour will be a nice memorable one."
Analysis: The 7-foot-2, 260-pound Mutombo ended up playing a pivotal role for Houston last season, when Yao Ming broke a bone in his right leg and missed 33 games. Mutombo started in his place and averaged five points, 10 rebounds and 1.45 blocks. Unless that happens again, Mutombo is not worth drafting outside of deeper Fantasy leagues as a source of cheap blocks.
News: Dikembe Mutombo was contemplating retirement after the Houston Rockets were ousted by the Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs. But dinner with Hakeem Olajuwon changed all that. "To have someone like that, who I admire so much, tell me I have too much to offer to walk away meant a great deal. What Hakeem had to say really motivated me," Mutombo told Houston television station KRIV.
Analysis: Mutombo, who is set to be a free agent, said he told Rockets owner Leslie Alexander he wanted to continue playing for the team. New coach Rick Adelman said the Rockets have been talking about the team's makeup and a little bit about Mutombo. Mutombo averaged 3.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 75 games last season, making 33 starts in place of Yao Ming. His Fantasy days are long behind him, but he has some measure of value as insurance for Yao owners in very deep leagues.
News: According to the Houston Chronicle, Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo said he was reconsidering his plan to return for another season. "I just spent a week with my kids, and I talked with my wife about it again," Mutombo said. "I'm just frustrated with the fact there was a chance to go to the second round, at least. After contributing the way I did contribute during the course of the season, I felt I did deserve a little time in the playoffs to play. The opportunity was not given to me. I'm a little bit disappointed about it." Mutombo averaged just eight minutes per game in the postseason. "I'm a free agent now," said Mutombo, 40. "I just want to go think about how many people I can change their lives in Africa. After that, maybe I'll think about basketball again."
Analysis: Mutombo, even if he does return, is nothing more than an injury replacement and stopgap for Fantasy users at this point. Continue to monitor his situation, but it's not worth losing sleep over.
News: Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo, who had missed a second-consecutive game because of soreness in his left knee, said he had been advised to sit out for 10 days after he collided with Michael Olowokandi on March 7, but insisted he could keep playing, setting back his rehabilitation. "I think I made a mistake," Mutombo said. "I didn't listen to the team doctors and our trainer (Keith Jones). Jeff (Van Gundy) was having a concern with me continuing to play and asked me to take a couple days off and I just thought I could keep going. I was feeling better. I didn't give myself a chance to have four or five days of healing. That was a mistake on my part."
Analysis: Mutombo played 11 minutes against the Clippers Wednesday, getting four rebounds. He's no longer a great start in most Fantasy formats with Yao Ming healthy. Consider him only in the deepest of Rotisserie league for his help in the rebounding and block categories.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo missed his second straight game on Monday night against the Bucks with a sore left knee.
Analysis: Mutombo is considered day to day. Keep him reserved in all larger Fantasy leagues until he can officially return and prove his health in consecutive games.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo (knee) was able to play 14 minutes Sunday at Philadelphia. He finished just two points but did grab seven rebounds.
Analysis: Mutombo is no longer a great Fantasy option with Yao Ming back, but can be a decent source of blocks and rebounds in larger Rotisserie leagues.
News: Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo, struggling since bruising his right knee March 7 in Boston, was held out of Friday's game in Toronto in hopes that it would help him get stronger.
Analysis: Mutombo has struggled since the injury, getting just three rebounds in the next four games, playing just 27 minutes in those games. Rockets athletic trainer Keith Jones said Mutombo is "about 50/50" to play Sunday in Philadelphia against one of his former teams. He went with a light workout Friday and again is scheduled for another on Sunday, Jones said, but nothing as demanding as playing in a game.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo (knee) was able to play Friday vs. New Jersey.
Analysis: Mutombo is coming off the bench now with Yao Ming back in the lineup. Keep him reserved in most formats until he is able to prove both healthy and productive in his limited role.
News: According to the Houston Chronicle, Houston centers Yao Ming and Dikembe Mutombo left Boston bruised, but both players said Thursday they were not hurt and will play Friday night against the New Jersey Nets. Yao dislocated the middle finger of his right hand in the Boston game but said he had only minor swelling and will play with the middle two fingers taped together. Mutombo had an MRI exam on his bruised his right knee, but no other damage was found, and he had only slight swelling.
Analysis: It appears safe to keep both players in your lineup. Yao should be used as a No. 1 center, and Mutombo is a No. 2 option at this point.
News: With one center back, it looked for a moment as if the Rockets would lose one. Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo, who left Wednesday's game with a bruised knee, said he would play Friday, but initially thought that it could be much worse, even career-threatening. "It scared me," Mutombo said. "I'm going toward the end of my career. I don't want to walk away like that. I have a flash memory of watching Charles Barkley getting carried out (in Philadelphia). That got in my mind. But I think I'm going to be able to play on Friday."
Analysis: Mutombo's minutes and production will start to decline with Yao's return, but with so little quality at center, he can still be used as a low-end No. 2 option. It's best to keep him reserved in most formats until he can return and prove the knee isn't a problem.
News: Even with the return of center Yao Ming on Monday against Cleveland, backup center Dikembe Mutombo still grabbed 10 rebounds in 19 minutes. He also had three points.
Analysis: Mutombo's minutes and production will start to decline with Yao's return, but with so little quality at center, he can still be used as a low-end No. 2 option.
News: Center Dikembe Mutombo, after getting a season-high 22 rebounds Friday, played only 10 minutes Saturday, getting two rebounds after he was unable to match up with the Spurs' Tim Duncan.
Analysis: With Yao Ming likely returning next week, we would recommend reserving Dikembe in all leagues. He has been very useful, but will return to a minimal role with Yao back.
News: Center Dikembe Mutombo had a season-high 22 rebounds, eight on the offensive boards, a game after he had just one.
Analysis: Deke won't be good for many more games like this with Yao Ming's return just around the corner. Fantasy GMs using him as a stopgap should feel comfortable starting him in larger leagues for the upcoming scoring period, though.
News: Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo played 39 minutes Wednesday against Miami, second on the Rockets to only Tracy McGrady, grabbing 13 rebounds. He also added five points.
Analysis: Mutombo remains a No. 2 Fantasy center for now, but his status will change once Yao Ming returns.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo enjoyed a nice January averaging 12.4 rebounds per game. He was inserted into the starting lineup after Yao Ming went down with injury in late December.
Analysis: Yao is due back around the beginning of February, so Mutombo's Fantasy relevance is running out. Still, he could be used as a low-end Fantasy option as a cheap source of rebounds with Yao out.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo had four points and nine rebounds in a loss to the Mavs Thursday.
Analysis: Mutombo hasn't been as good as rebounder as he was when he first took over for the injured Yao Ming. Still, he could be used as a low-end Fantasy option as a cheap source of rebounds with Yao out.
News: Center Dikembe Mutombo had a season-high 14 points to go with 14 rebounds and four steals Saturday vs. Charlotte.
Analysis: The rebounding should remain solid, but Deke won't be much of a scorer in Fantasy leagues. Continue to rely on him only for the boards and blocks.
News: Center Dikembe Mutombo battled some painful tendinitis in his left knee on Tuesday but still had 13 rebounds and three blocked shots in 37 minutes. "My left knee was killing me," Mutombo said. "Thank God I was able to play the game. It's just tendinitis here on the top. Sometimes it gets sore. Especially on back-to-backs, it's tough. I think I did a good job. I was able to give our team great tempo at the beginning, and I was able to come out in the fourth quarter and control (Memphis' Pau) Gasol. If he gets going, he's tough. I had no choice. We are a very small team with Yao out. They need me. I had no choice."
Analysis: Consider Mutombo a No. 2 Fantasy center as long as Yao remains out. Mutombo is a good source for rebounds right now.
News: Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo had one point and 13 rebounds Tuesday against Memphis. He was 0-of-3 from the field and hit one foul shot.
Analysis: Mutombo has done well rebounding the ball, but his scoring remains to be desired. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy center as long as Yao Ming remains out.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo had 11 points and 13 rebounds in a loss to the Nuggets on Saturday.
Analysis: Mutombo has now recorded two double-doubles in the last four games, but don't expect him to keep that up. He is still a monster on the boards, but will not score much on a nightly basis.
News: Dikembe Mutombo's streak of getting at least 10 rebounds ended at 11 games, with Mutombo getting eight rebounds in 27 minutes on Wednesday.
Analysis: One game shouldn't scare anyone that has added him just yet. He has been a terrific addition off the waiver wire with Yao Ming sidelined until perhaps March.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo continued to own the boards on Saturday night at Sacramento, getting 18 rebounds, his 10th consecutive game with at least 10.
Analysis: His overtime tip-in proved to be the game-winner on Sunday, but his offense remains mediocre at best. With Yao Ming now slated to be out until some time in March, Fantasy owners can expect more rebounds anc blocks from Mutombo. He's emerged as a must-start No. 2 Fantasy center and could serve as your top center in larger leagues if you are desperate.
News: Dikembe Mutombo moved into second place on the all-time blocks list in the Houston Rockets' 102-77 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Mutombo blocked five shots and grabbed 19 rebounds, matching a season high and reaching double-digits for the eighth straight game. He now has 3,191 blocks, two more than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time list.
Analysis: Mutombo has now reeled off eight straight games with double-digits rebounds. If you are in dire need of rebounds, consider using Mutombo in Fantasy leagues while Yao Ming is out with injury.
News: Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo had 16 rebounds in 27 minutes against Chicago, giving him double-figure rebounds in seven consecutive games.
Analysis: Consider Mutombo a No. 2 center in all leagues as long as Yao Ming remains sidelined with an injury.
News: Dikembe Mutombo had 13 rebounds and has had double-figure rebounds in six consecutive games for the first time since the 2000-2001 season.
Analysis: The absence of Yao Ming has made Mutombo useful in larger Rotisserie leagues once again, but only as a low-end No. 2 center because of his rebounding abilities. He doesn't score that much, so don't bank on him in that catergory.
News: Dikembe Mutombo had a season-high 19 rebounds Friday vs. Utah.
Analysis: He has averaged 14 in the Rockets' four-game homestand. The absence of Yao Ming has made Mutombo useful in larger Rotisserie leagues once again, but only as a No. 2 center for his rebounding abilities. He doesn't score much, so don't bank on him in that catergory.
News: Dikembe Mutombo had 12 rebounds Wednesday vs. Seattle, and is averaging 12.3 in his past three games.
Analysis: The absence of Yao Ming has made Mutombo useful in larger Rotisserie leagues once again, but only as a low-end No. 2 center because of his rebounding abilities. He doesn't score that much, so don't bank on him in that catergory.
News: Dikembe Mutombo grabbed 14 rebounds as the Rockets won their fourth straight game on Wednesday with a win over the Sonics. He also had eight points.
Analysis: The absence of Yao Ming has made Mutombo useful in larger Rotisserie leagues once again, but only as a low-end No. 2 center because of his rebounding abilities. He doesn't score that much, so don't bank on him in that catergory.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo, who had 14 rebounds on Friday, had 11 in 23 minutes on Sunday, getting seven on the offensive boards and blocking four shots.
Analysis: The absence of Yao Ming has made Mutombo useful in larger Rotisserie leagues once again, but only as a low-end No. 2 center because of his rebounding abilities. He doesn't score that much, so don't bank on him in that catergory.
News: Dikembe Mutombo had more rebounds in the third quarter Friday, 11, than he had in any previous game this season, 10, and finished with 14 in just 22 minutes against the Hawks.
Analysis: The absence of Yao Ming has made Mutombo useful in larger Rotisserie leagues once again, but only as a low-end No. 2 center.
News: The injury to center Yao Ming brings much more playing time for Dikembe Mutombo. Mutombo played a season-high 25 minutes against the Clippers on Saturday after Yao was hurt. He started and played 19 minutes on Tuesday. He had been averaging 7.7 minutes in the 17 games (of 26) that he had played before Yao's injury. "I have no choice to figure out how I can maintain myself very well to come out and give the team some defense and rebounding and blocking shots," Mutombo said. "We just have to figure out how we can great chemistry on the offensive end."
Analysis: In the 1 1/2 games that Mutombo has filled in for Yao, he has just six points and 13 rebounds. He will need to be more productive before inserting him into Fantasy lineups. He is, although, someone to keep an eye on as a possible stopgap No. 2 Fantasy center.
News: Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo picked up 10 rebounds off the bench in Wednesday's win at Charlotte.
Analysis: Mutombo is playing only against traditional centers in the current rotation and his Fantasy value is limited to deep Rotisserie formats as a possible short-term replacement.
News: With Chuck Hayes starting at power forward Friday vs. Knicks, the switch moved Shane Battier to small forward and Tracy McGrady to guard with Yao Ming at center and Rafer Alston at point guard. Dikembe Mutombo is the first center off the bench, but with Juwan Howard no longer in the mix at power forward, he will play as the backup center when teams go small.
Analysis: Consider Howard and Mutombo obsolete Fantasy options until this situation changes.
News: Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo said he had no opinion about the NBA decision on Monday to ban the fan that shouted a racial epithet at him from NBA arenas for a year, but had chosen to forgive the fan while trying to forget the incident. "I've come to the conclusion (that) I don't know if he (meant) what he said," Mutombo said. "I want to just forget about that, and think about my season about to start. I knew that he crossed the line. Actually, I want to forgive him. I'm trying to forget about it."
Analysis: While Mutombo has enjoyed a splendid NBA career, his days as a useful Fantasy C have long passed. Consider him only if an injury were to create regular playing time. Even then, it would be purely out of desperation.
News: Dikembe Mutombo has scored a total of 10 points in the month of March, during which he's played in just four out of 10 games.
Analysis: He's not worth owning in Fantasy leages anymore.
News: Dikembe Mutombo did not play on Thursday at Phoenix, marking the fourth DNP-CD during the month of February and the fifth since Yao Ming was able to return from his foot injury.
Analysis: Mutombo is no longer worth owning in Fantasy leagues now that Ming has returned. Only consider him if there is some type of long-term injury to a Houston big man.
News: Dikembe Mutombo scored seven points on 2-of-3 shooting with four rebounds and two blocks in 23 minutes on Saturday vs. Utah.
Analysis: He's not a big Fantasy factor these days. With Yao Ming back, Mutombo isn't counted on too heavily by the Rockets and Fantasy owners shouldn't rely on him, either.
News: Dikembe Mutombo scored just two points on Sunday vs. Miami. On Sunday, the Houston Rockets announced that they expect Yao Ming (foot) to return next Wednesday.
Analysis: When Yao does return, Mutombo should no longer have any Fantasy value.
News: Center Dikembe Mutombo, after getting 10 rebounds in Atlanta and averaging 9.1 in the first 11 games he has played since Yao Ming went out, had just one rebound in 23 minutes.
Analysis: Mutombo is no more than an emergency replacement for Yao Ming owners. He's not a big Fantasy factor these days.
News: Former Hawks center Dikembe Mutombo looked like the Dikembe Mutombo of old Monday afternoon against his former team. With All-Star center Yao Ming out with an injury (toe), Mutombo had to pick up the slack for a Rockets team playing without its biggest stars -- Tracy McGrady also sat out the game with a bad back. Mutombo was more than up to the task, blocking shots and wagging his finger, rebounding and scoring like he hasn't all season for the Rockets. "It's amazing to see Mutombo still out there running around like that," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "He played (33) minutes. He played great minutes for their ball club. I thought eventually we could wear him down and make them play small ball and match us, which they did. That was kind of to our advantage."
Analysis: Despite the nice game, he should not be relied on in Fantasy leagues.
News: Dikembe Mutombo scored three points on 1-of-1 shooting with eight rebounds on Saturday vs. New Orleans.
Analysis: He should not be relied on in Fantasy leagues.
News: Dikembe Mutombo picked up nine rebounds and three blocks on Tuesday at Charlotte.
Analysis: Mutombo played just 19 minutes despite the absence of Stromile Swift. He should not be relied on in Fantasy leagues.
News: Dikembe Mutombo got another start but only scored one point on 0-of-3 shooting with one block on Thursday night in Cleveland.
Analysis: Mutombo continues to start over Stromile Swift, although Swift has much more upside from a Fantasy perspective.
News: Dikembe Mutombo started at center at Oklahoma City on Wednesday. He did not attempt a field goal, but he did log 10 rebounds.
Analysis: Stromile Swift actually played well now that Mutombo is back from an injury. It will be interesting to see who wins out as Yao Ming's replacement until he can return in or around February. Get your hands on either or both if you can and see who wins out.
News: Dikembe Mutombo (finger) returned to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Jazz. He scored just one point and had six rebounds in 21 minutes.
Analysis: Mutombo is a decent source of blocks and rebounds, but he should only be depended on in Roto leagues of 12 or more teams as a No. 2 center.
News: Dikembe Mutombo (finger) is expected to return on Tuesday vs. Utah according to the Houston Chronicle. "He's physically in shape to be an old head," said Tracy McGrady. "We don't quite know how old he is, but for a guy — lets say in his mid-40s — he's in great shape. Mentally, physically, Deke he's a strong individual."
Analysis: Stromile Swift failed to do anything with Yao Ming (toe) and Mutombo sidelined so Dikembe should see plenty of time. He's worth adding if he's still available as he'll be quality source for blocks and rebounds while Ming remains unable to play.
News: According to the Houston Chronicle, Yao Ming could miss six weeks following surgery on his left big toe and Dikembe Mutombo is expected to miss at least two games with a dislocated finger.
Analysis: With Ming and Mutombo out of the picture, Stromile Swift had a big chance to make an impact, but failed to do so. He scored only two points in 14 minutes of action while bringing down only three boards. Mutombo owners are advised to hang on to him because he'll log significant minutes when he is able to return.
News: According to the Houston Chronicle, Dikembe Mutombo dislocated and cut the middle finger on his right hand and will miss at least the next two games. He is scheduled to be re-evaluated next Monday.
Analysis: With Ming and Mutombo out for a while, Stromile Swift and Lonny Baxter will have to man the post for now. Neither had a rebound in Sunday's win over the L.A. Lakers. Swift is the only one of the two that could have any Fantasy appeal.
News: With Yao Ming expected to be sidelined for several weeks, Dikembe Mutombo is expected to see a significant increase in minutes. He started in Sunday night's win over the Lakers, but left the game with a dislocated finger. His status heading into Wednesday's game is not yet known.
Analysis: Yao owners would be wise to pick up Mutombo, despite his finger injury. He'll provide blocks and rebounds in Yao's absence.
News: Dikembe Mutombo had one block and no points in nine minutes of action at Sacramento on Thursday.
Analysis: Mutombo should not be on Fantasy rosters these days.
News: Dikembe Mutombo is only averaging 10.5 minutes per game and is averaging less than one block per game for the first time in his 15-year career.
Analysis: His days of being a factor in Fantasy leagues are over.
News: Dikembe Mutombo signed a two-year deal with the Houston Rockets on Friday and plans to retire after the 2006-07 season. "I don't see myself playing after this contract," the 39-year-old center said.
