Mavs upgrade Monta Ellis to questionable for Wednesday's game

(2/11/2015) Mavericks guard Monta Ellis has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable for Wednesday's game against the Jazz, reports the team's official website.

Ellis is suffering from a hip injury, which occurred during Monday's loss to the Clippers. Guard Devin Harris would likely see his minutes increase if Ellis out.

The Mavericks are 4-point favorites.

(2/8/2015) Mavericks point guard Devin Harris suffered an apparent ankle injury in Saturday's win over the Trail Blazers, the team reported. Harris was seen limping to the bench near the end of the game, trying to stay in the game, but coach Rock Carlisle subbed him out for J.J. Barea.

Harris finished the game with 16 points on 5 of 15 shooting from the field, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range, and grabbed seven rebounds before exiting the game.


Mavs' Rajon Rondo to undergo facial surgery

(2/4/2015) Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told reporters Wednesday guard Rajon Rondo will undergo facial surgery, but he was unsure of when the surgery would take place, reports the Star-Telegram.

Rondo suffered an orbital and nasal fracture after taking a knee to the head during last Saturday’s game. It is not known how long Rondo will be out. Cuban added the team will look to add a player using a 10-day contract.

Guards Devin Harris, J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton are expected to see their roles increase during Rondo's absence.

Harris rolled his leg on during Monday's game and could not finish the game. X-rays on the leg came back negative. In 48 games, he is averaging 8.3 points and 3.2 assists.

Dallas is a 9-point underdog at Golden State, per VegasInsider.com.

(2/2/2015) Mavericks point guard Devin Harris had his leg rolled on in the fourth quarter of Monday's game and was forced to leave. Harris, who played 24 minutes and scored seven points and dished out four assists, received an X-ray following the play, which came back negative.

"Hopefully it's not bad," coach Rick Carlisle said after the game.

Harris said he was examined for ankle and knee injuries and he will see how it goes.

"If I can [play through it], I will," Harris said. "Obviously, if I can't, I can't. We'll just have to see how it is [Tuesday]. If I can run and cut, I'll play."

(2/2/2015) The Mavericks announced guard Rajon Rondo is dealing with an orbital and nasal fracture, according to the team's official website.

Rondo sustained the injuries when he received a knee to his head during last Saturday's game. Rondo has already been ruled out Monday's game and will not travel with the team to Golden State and Sacramento.

Guards Devin Harris, J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton are expected to receive an increase in minutes over the next few games.

Harris played 10 minutes Monday before leaving with leg soreness. He did not return to the game.

(10/6/2014) The Mavericks have plenty of experience at the point guard spot this season, with Jameer Nelson and Raymond Felton joining Devin Harris this offseason. It looks like Nelson is going to get the first crack at the starting role, head coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN.com Sunday.

"When we were recruiting him this summer, I told him we were looking for the best guy to be a starter for us," Carlisle said. "I really like Harris off the bench."

Nelson played with the starters during a team scrimmage Saturday, with Harris and Felton playing together with the second unit, a look they could go a lot this season.

"I like Jameer in that spot and Felton, he's going to be out the first four games," Carlisle added. "So if there were some tea leaves here, that’s what it may look like. But it's early to commit to anything. We got to see how it goes in games."

(9/30/2014) Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle is not ready to name a starter at point guard, according to ESPN Dallas. In fact, he's not concerned over the idea of splitting minutes between Devin Harris, Jameer Nelson and Raymond Felton.

"I get a lot of questions about the minutes crunch," Carlisle said. "I'm not worried about that. I just want good basketball players that want to win, and I think we have that."

(7/5/2014) The Mavericks are nearing agreement on a deal with free agent guard Devin Harris on a three-year deal, ESPN.com reports Saturday.

According to reports, the deal will pay Harris $9 million over the course of three years. He could step into a starting role following the trade of Jose Calderon.

Harris appeared in 40 games for the Mavericks last season, all off the bench. He averaged 7.9 points and 4.5 assists per game, though he also shot just 37.8 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from three-point range.

(3/13/2014) Mavericks guard Devin Harris shook off a sore Achilles and was able to fill his usual role Wednesday, in a 108-101 win over the Jazz.

Harris, who was forced to leave the team's previous game as a result of the injury, did not seem hobbled this time around. He scored 12 points in 20 minutes off the bench, while adding three rebounds and three assists along with three turnovers.

Harris was only cleared to play just before tipoff, but still looked solid. He is averaging 9.4 points and 4.0 assists per game over the last five.

Harris will have plenty of time to get back to full health even after playing Wednesday. The Mavericks are off until Sunday against the Thunder.

Harris played 17 minutes in his first action, scoring six points on 2 of 4 shooting. He added two assists and did not turn the ball over once in a 127-112 loss.

Harris will likely work as the team's backup point guard now that he is healthy, though it may take a few weeks before he is back in playing shape. He is coming off a season in which he averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 assists per game for the Hawks in 58 appearances.

Harris went through a full workout Thursday and participated in the team's shootaround Friday but was ruled out before Friday's game. He has been sidelined all season after undergoing offseason toe surgery.
