Warriors' Kerr grateful that Iguodala, Lee accepted reserve roles

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/4/2015) Warriors coach Steve Kerr acknowledged Tuesday he's grateful that Andre Iguodala and David Lee each accepted a reserve role on the team, which has contributed to Golden State's 46-12 record this season -- only two wins behind the Hawks for the best record in the NBA.

Iguodala only accepted a role off the bench once in his career, and it wasn't even in the NBA. While winning an Olympic gold medal in 2012 as a member of Team USA, Iguodala took a back seat to LeBron James.

"It's one of the most gratifying parts of the season," Kerr said, per the Washington Post. "That's really what you hope for as a coach. That each guy is going to accept a role and understand that that role is designed to make the team better and that it may cost him some minutes and some points and all that stuff. But if everyone buys in, and believes, you've got a pretty strong, powerful force and I think we've achieved that to this point."

Lee also didn't have any objections to Kerr's plans this season when he was told that Draymond Green was a better fit in the starting lineup.

"I've had plenty of years putting up big numbers, being an All-Star and doing things like that. Now it's time to chase a ring and I love what our team is doing and our chemistry. And the character guys on our team, nobody cares who gets the credit," Lee said. "We know that we have two bona fide superstars in Steph and Klay and everybody else is really here to fill around those guys and to make them as successful as possible."

Warriors planning rest days for Andre Iguodala, Andrew Bogut

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1/18/2015) Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters he is planning on resting small forward Andre Iguodala and could rest center Andrew Bogut for some time, according to mercurynews.com

"Andre's not real happy," Kerr said smiling after Iguodala reluctantly agreed to miss his first game of the season. "He wants to play every second of every game, so I have to protect him from himself a little bit."

Iguodala is coming off of a season where knee tendinitis kept him limited for some time. Bogut is still recovering from knee inflammation, which kept him out of action for a month.

"Thankfully we're in a position where we can do that," Bogut said of getting rest. "If we're 20-15 at this point, we don't do that. There are some luxuries and rewards in performing well early."

Kerr also hinted that point guard Stephen Curry and shooting guard Klay Thompson may get some time off, as the two are playing less minutes this season than in previous years.

"Whether it's Pop or anybody else, to me, it's common sense," Kerr said. "And when you get into a long stretch, and you're fortunate enough to be able to mix and manage, then you just do it. It makes sense in the long run."

Warriors' Andrew Bogut, Andre Iguodala get the night off vs. Thunder

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1/16/2015) Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters that Andrew Bogut and Andre Iguodala will sit out Friday's clash against the Thunder. Both players are getting a night off to rest amid Golden State's four-games-in-five-nights set, per the San Francisco Chronicle.

Golden State is a 1 1/2-point road favorite against Oklahoma City.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11/22/2014) Warriors shooting guard Andre Iguodala scored a season-high 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting, including 2 of 2 shooting from behind the arc, in his team's 101-88 win over the Jazz Friday.

It wasn't a typical night for the Warriors, as the team shot out to a 28-13 lead in the first quarter and maintained a huge lead throughout. Iguodala played 25 minutes off the bench during his sharpshooting performance, delivering his second straight double-digit performance but only his third such performance of the season. He also kicked in three rebounds and one assist in the win. The Warriors are set to take on the Thunder Sunday.

Kerr: Not worried about Warriors' Andre Iguodala 'at all'

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11/12/2014) Warriors guard Andre Iguodala has endured considerable struggles over his last two games, but coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday he wasn't worried about Iguodala "at all," the Contra Costa Times reports.

"I thought (Iguodala's rough night against the Spurs) was just one of those games," Kerr said. "The Phoenix game, I didn't use him the right way. I wore him down a little bit on the second night of a back-to-back. But he was brilliant against Houston. His defense changed the game for us.

"It's part of being in the NBA. There are ups and downs. I'm not worried about Andre at all. He's one of our captains. He's one of our smartest players. We're figuring out some things, though. We're new together, and we're trying to play with some different rotations."

Iguodala scored just three points in 53 mintues over his last two games while adding five rebounds and two assists. He'll look for a bounce-back performance Thursday against the Nets.

Andre Iguodala's value taking a hit

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/12/2014) At the Fantasy Basketball Today blog Wednesday, I took a look at a handful of players who have gotten off to slow starts to the season, to see how Fantasy owners should handle them. Among the toughest to gauge is Warriors forward Andre Iguodala, who is off to a disastrous start so far:

"The Warriors have had a lot of trouble getting production from the bench since last season, and new coach Steve Kerr thought he might address that by moving Iguodala there. That has been a disaster so far, as the team's second unit, led by Iguodala and Shaun Livingston, have struggled mightily. Iguodala's production has cratered so far, and his per-minute numbers are down across the board as well. He might move back to the starting lineup at some point, but at this point, I'm not even sure that can save him. He hasn't looked right since the first half of last season."

Iguodala is probably still worth rostering, and if the owner who has him in your league wants to get rid of him, he might be worth a flier. But you won't want to give up anything of value at ths point.

Warriors SG Andre Iguodala thrives Tuesday off bench

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/15/2014) Warriors veteran shooting guard Andre Iguodala has never come off the bench in a regular season game, but Steve Kerr does not appear averse to that scenario this season.

Wearing a protective mask over his broken nose, Iguodala piled up eight assists without a turnover Tuesday night in a lopsided defeat of the Lakers. And though Kerr has mentioned him as a probable starter, he liked what he saw from Iguodala in a reserve role.

"I thought Andre was brilliant, and I don't know that (coming off the bench is) the route we're going to go, but he solidified that unit, and our lead went up when he subbed in, which was encouraging," Kerr told InsideBayArea.com.

Iguodala tried to take a mature mental and emotional approach. "It's just growing up, being smart about the situation," he said. "You could do the opposite and kind of just tank it just to say that it's wrong. But like I said, our whole focus with this team is to try to continue to improve and make the most of our unit, and we have so much depth, there are opportunities for us to get where everybody wants to be."

Iguodala averaged 9.3 points in 32 minutes per game last season. It was his lowest scoring output since his rookie season.
