Kevin Martin can't find his shot in loss to Kings

(4/14/2014) Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin was back on the hardwood Sunday night against the Kings, but endured a difficult shooting night in his team's 106-103 defeat to Sacramento.

Martin missed all eight of his shots, including three of them from behind the arc. He knocked down all two of his free throw attempts and finished with two points. He also chipped in with one rebound and one steal while logging 18 minutes of game action.

Both players have been dealing with these injuries for a while, though Pekovic's battle has been much longer, and we might not see them again this season.

(4/9/2014)  The Timberwolves have been hit hard by injuries in the season's final week, and will be without five players for Wednesday's game against the Bulls. Center Nikola Pekovic (ankle) and guards Kevin Martin (foot) and J.J. Barea (back) are joined on the inactive list by forwards Chase Budinger (ankle) and Shabazz Muhammad (knee).

Muhammad and Budinger might be out for the season as a result of their injuries, while the remaining three remain day to day moving forward.

(4/7/2014) Timberwolves head coach Rick Adelman told the Star Tribune that guard Kevin Martin will miss Tuesday's contest against the Spurs because of a sore right foot injury.

Martin will have missed three games in a row due to the ailment. He is averaging 19.2 points and 3.0 assists while shooting 43.1 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from behind the arc over that span. His next opportunity to return will come Wednesday against Chicago.

Martin has appeared in 65 games this season, averaging 19.2 points and 3.0 assists while shooting 43.1 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from behind the arc over that span. His next opportunity to return will come Saturday in Orlando.

Martin shot 8 of 20 from the field, including 1 of 3 from downtown, and a perfect 14 of 14 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with three rebounds, three assists and one steal while logging 40 minutes of game action. He is averaging 24.0 points and 2.6 rebounds over his last five games.

Martin is officially out indefinitely as a result of the injury, and a more concrete timeline will liklely be determined in the coming days.

Martin had X-rays taken on the thumb earlier Saturday, which revealed the injury. He had appeared in 48 of the team's first 50 games, averaging 19.0 points and 2.0 assists per game for the season.

Martin went 10 of 17 shooting from the field, including 3 of 3 from downtown, and 3 of 5 from the charity stripe. He finished the game with 26 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal while logging 34 minutes of game action. (1/21/2014) Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin didn't shoot the ball well Tuesday, but he still managed to be effective in a 112-97 win over the Jazz.

Martin shot just 5 of 16 from the field, but was still efficient enough to score 18 points. He added a pair of 3-pointers and went 6 of 6 at the free-throw line, while tossing in four rebounds, two assists and one steal in the win.

At one point during the game, Martin suffered a lacerated right pinky and had to leave the game. Afterward, the team's TV play-by-play announcer reported that the injury was not more serious than that, confirming that Martin avoided a broken finger

Martin went through an extended slump in December, but has been much better since the start of January. He has scored in double figures in all but one of 10 games, while averaging 17.0 points per game. Hopefully the finger does not become a nagging issue that derails him. The Timberwolves have two days off before their next game, Friday against the Warriors.

Martin played just 19 minutes in the team's loss to the Grizzlies Sunday, and was held scoreless. He is shooting just 30.6 percent overall over the last five games, a possible sign that the injury has been bothering him for a while.
