News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass was fairly productive during Tuesday's contest against the Knicks. Bass finished with 11 points in the 100-85 defeat on 5 of 6 shooting from the field. He also added seven rebounds, three blocks and one assist to his stat line, while logging 28 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Bass has actually picked up his play of late as he entered Tuesday's tilt averaging 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds over his last nine games on 55 percent shooting from the field. The 27-year-old continues to earn starts at power forward, but his inconsistent production has made it hard to leave him active for long stretches of time. However, he could be worth plugging in as a low-end option while he is playing like this.
News: Celtics power forward Brandon Bass scored in double figures for the first time since Feb. 25 on Tuesday against the Bobcats. He finished with 10 points and hauled in seven rebounds in the 100-74 loss. He was an efficient 4 of 6 from the field and made both of his free throws while playing 24 minutes. Bass also posted two steals, two assists and a block in the defeat.
Analysis: After a career campaign a year ago, Bass has not been as productive this season. He entered Tuesday averaging just 6.2 points with 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in the previous five contests on close to 54 percent shooting. Bass should continue to see steady minutes in Boston but leave him for deeper Fantasy formats down the stretch.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass had another subpar performance Friday against the Warriors, as he scored just eight points in 26 minutes. Bass shot 3 of 5 from the field and 2 of 3 at the free-throw line, while snagging just four rebounds. He also had three assists, in a 94-86 win.
Analysis: Bass remains the starter in Boston, and he is averaging 31.8 minutes per game over the last five, but his production leaves something to be desired. He has reached double figures in scoring in just two of the last five games, while averaging 9.2 points per game in that span. He is averaging just 4.0 rebounds per game as well, so continue to consider him just a low-end Fantasy option, at best.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass struggled to make much of an impact Friday against the Suns, as Jeff Green continues to show him up. Bass scored just six points on 3 of 8 shooting in 32 minutes, while grabbing six rebounds; Green led the team with 31 points and seven rebounds, in a 113-88 win.
Analysis: Greens breakout has coincided with Bass struggles, as he is averaging just 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game over the last 10. The Celtics seem to prefer Greens athletic style of play over Bass, and it is affecting Bass production. At this point, Bass should be left for deeper Fantasy formats.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass turned in another underwhelming performance during Monday's contest against the Bobcats. Bass, who was making his fifth straight start at power forward, finished with eight points and five rebounds in the 97-94 defeat. He connected on four of his seven field-goal attempts and also added seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal to his stat line, while logging 32 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Bass was able to regain his spot in the starting lineup once Jared Sullinger was lost for the year with a back injury, but 27-year-old's stat lines have pretty much remained the same. In fact, he is averaging 7.6 points and 5.2 rebounds since the move was made, which is right on par with his season averages. While Bass is seeing around 28 minutes per game since his move back into the starting rotation, his underwhelming stat lines make merely a low-end option whose value lies in deeper formats.
News: Celtics power forward Brandon Bass made his third consecutive start on Wednesday against the Raptors and was able to score in double figures. He finished with 10 points and hauled in three rebounds in the 99-95 win. He was an efficient 4 of 6 from the field and made 2 of 3 free throws while playing 24 minutes. Bass also posted a block and an assist in the victory.
Analysis: Bass has been starting with Jared Sullinger out for the season and should continue to see decent minutes on a nightly basis. He is averaging 8.6 points with 5.2 rebounds in the previous five contests on 45 percent shooting. Since Boston is pretty thin in the frontcourt at this point, Bass is worth owning in deeper Fantasy formats.
News: Boston power forward Brandon Bass was moved to the bench behind Jared Sullinger on Sunday against Miami. Bass played 19 minutes as a starter his last time out Friday at Atlanta and failed to score on 0 for 4 shooting from the field with two rebounds.
Analysis: Bass is bringing home just 7.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game on the season over 25.8 minutes per night. Unfortunately, those numbers are even worse lately at 4.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 20.8 minutes over his last five contests. Now he's losing his starting spot for Boston. Bass has low-end Fantasy value at this time.
News: Celtics power forward Brandon Bass got the start and played 28 minutes on Tuesday night during a loss at Cleveland. Bass scored eight points in the game for Boston as he went 4 for 7 from the field. He grabbed six rebounds and added an assist in the contest.
Analysis: Bass isn't doing much scoring and he's not rebounding much, either. Fantasy owners should only be considering his usage in the deepest of formats right now. He's been an underwhelming option all season for Boston.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass was once again not much of a factor during Monday's contest against the Bobcats. Bass finished with just six points in the 100-89 defeat on 3 of 6 shooting from the field. He also added three rebounds and two blocks to his stat line while logging 17 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Bass continues to earn starts at power forward but hasn't been much of a Fantasy factor in recent weeks. He has failed to score in double figures in each of his last four contests and is putting up 6.6 points and 4.4 boards over his last 10 games. Unless Bass starts to see a serious spike in production, he should only be owned in deeper formats as a reserve option.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass was in the starting lineup yet again Saturday against the Hawks, and he played a solid role in an 89-81 win. Bass scored 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting in the game, while grabbing four rebounds in 36 minutes. He added two assists, three steals and a block.
Analysis: Bass has been in the starting lineup over the last two games, and he is averaging 7.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in those two games. His play has taken a step back this season, and it does not seem like a change in his role is going to make much of a difference. At this point, he continues to have just low-end Fantasy value.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass registered eight points and three rebounds during Boston's 93-76 win at Brooklyn on Tuesday. Bass connected on just 4 of his 11 attempts from the field -- his sixth consecutive game shooting below 40 percent. He has totaled just 29 points combined during that span. Bass also contributed three rebounds and a block during 19 minutes of playing time as the Celtics built a big lead early.
Analysis: After a breakout scoring performance during his first season with Boston last year, Bass has taken a step backward through the first quarter of the season. He entered Tuesday's game averaging just 8.3 points per game on the year and has topped double digits in points only twice during December. The silver lining is his rebounding (5.5 rpg), but he is not considered a viable option outside of deeper Fantasy formats for now.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass endured one his worst performances of the season during Friday's contest against the Rockets. Bass was held in check and scored just two points in a 101-89 defeat. He went 1 of 3 shooting from the field and was unable to reach the free throw line. He also added four rebounds, an assist and a block in 23 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Bass has been held in single digit scoring five of the last seven games and has averaged 6.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game over that stretch, compared to his 9.3-point average this season. Bass has gone in and out of the starting lineup a few times, and is more of a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 8 (Dec. 17-23).
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass got back to double figures in scoring Wednesday against the Timberwolves, after being held to just 10 points total in his previous two games. Bass scored 12 points in 30 minutes, shooting 6 of 9 from the field. He added eight rebounds and filled the box score with an assist, three blocks and two steals in a 104-94 win.
Analysis: Bass has seen a small reduction in his role this season, and he has responded by shooting his lowest percentage since 2006-07. He is averaging 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game, while shooting just 44.3 percent from the field. Bass has gone in and out of the starting lineup a few times, and is more of a low-end Fantasy option moving forward.
News: After being held to single-digit scoring in his last four games, Celtics forward Brandon Bass bounced back with a solid performance against the Spurs Wednesday night. Bass scored 16 points and snatched six rebounds in a 112-100 defeat. He went 7 of 10 shooting from the field and knocked down both of his free throw attempts. He also added two steals and a blocked shot in 29 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Bass seems to have put his right finger injury behind him and is looking to turn in back-to-back double-digit scoring performances for just the second time this season. At this point, he is way too inconsistent for Fantasy owners to trust. He is averaging 9.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game and should be kept active in deeper formats for now.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass left Monday's contest against Bulls early on due to an injury to his right finger. X-rays came back negative and he was able to return in the first half. Bass went on to score 16 points with five rebounds in the 101-95 win. He was an efficient 5 for 6 from the field and made all six of his free throws. Bass also chipped in with three assists, two blocks and a steal while playing 34 minutes.
Analysis: Bass returned to the starting lineup Saturday with a poor performance but was able to get back on track Monday. At this point head coach Doc Rivers will continue to shuffle his starting lineup until he can find the players that can be effective as a starter. Bass proved last season to be a reliable option in Fantasy so keep an eye on the situation going forward. Keep the 27-year-old active in deeper formats at this point.
News: Celtics power forward Brandon Bass took the start but could not get going offensively against the Bucks Saturday night. Bass was held to just eight points and seven rebounds in a 96-92 victory. He shot 3 of 6 from the floor and made both of his free throws while chipping in with one block in 31 minutes of game action.
Analysis: Bass had reached double figures in scoring in three of his first four games and has been held to just eight points in his last two contests -- even with extended minutes. At this point head coach Doc Rivers will continue to shuffle his starting lineup until he can find the players that can be effective as a starter. Bass has not been able to make his case lately as he has averaged 9.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game thus far. Fantasy owners should keep him active in deeper formats if he continues to see minutes as a starter.
News: Boston power forward Brandon Bass played well in overtime in Wednesday's win against the Washington Wizards. Bass gave the Celtics 33 minutes off the bench as he shot 4 of 9 from the field to score 11 points. He grabbed seven rebounds and added a steal in the winning performance.
Analysis: Bass has scored in double figures in three of the four games he's played this season and has added over seven rebounds per game as well. As long as you need cheap help in those two categories, Bass can help in deeper Fantasy formats.
News: Boston power forward Brandon Bass made a solid contribution for the Celtics as a starter Tuesday night in Miami in the season opener. The Celtics dropped the game but Bass scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds over 28 minutes. He went 6 of 11 from the field and added an assist for Boston in the losing effort.
Analysis: Bass is paying special attention to rebounding this season and definitely got off to a nice start with his double-double against the Heat. Bass averaged career highs in points (12.5) and rebounds (6.2) in 59 games last season and is looking to keep improving for the Celtics. As a starter, Bass can definitely be active in most deeper Fantasy formats.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass understands the team's added depth in the frontcourt has clouded his role for the upcoming season, but it hasn't altered his focus. Bass, who signed a three-year contract extension in the offseason, appears locked in a position battle for the starting power forward spot with Jared Sullinger as the rookie has received several starts during the team's preseason schedule. "This year I just want to be a better rebounder, thats all," Bass told the Boston Globe. "And as far as everything else that I worked on this summer, its only going to get shown when I get more opportunities."
Analysis: Bass also missed some time over the past weekend because of a right knee bruise -- the same area that caused him problems last season -- but returned to the lineup Sunday against Philadelphia. While he started the game over Sullinger and logged 26 minutes, he said he is not concerned about his position with the Celtics, including a reserve role. "I make my adjustments no matter what it is," he said. "I feel like I can overcome anything. So I just make my adjustments and make the best out of my situation." Bass averaged career highs in points (12.5) and rebounds (6.2) in 59 games last season. He might not be able to top the 31.7 minutes he posted last year with Sullinger in town, but he's still worth a late-round selection as a bench player in deeper Fantasy drafts.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass was able to play through a knee during Friday night's contest against the Raptors. Bass, who tweaked his knee during Boston's win over the Hawks last Wednesday, finished with 10 points and three rebounds in the 84-79 loss to Toronto. Bass made five of his 11 shot attempts and also added one steal to his stat line.
Analysis: Bass's injury is not being considered serious and he will attempt to play through it moving forward. However, that doesn't mean he will be able to remain in the lineup on a nightly basis, so owners will have to keep an eye on his status moving forward. Bass has turned in his most productive season as a pro to date, so leave him active in all formats as long as he can stay in the lineup.
News: For the third straight game, Celtics forward Brandon Bass made at least half of his shots on Thursday against the Bulls, as he went 6 of 12 from the field for 15 points. He also added five rebounds and went 3 of 4 from the free-throw line in the game, as the Celtics tried and failed to come back against the Bulls, falling, 93-86.
Analysis: Bass is now shooting 52.2 percent from the field in that four game stretch while averaging 13.3 points per game. He has done much of his damage from the free-throw line in the game, adding 5.3 makes per game in that span. Bass has been playing slightly more minutes lately, as the Celtics have been hit hard by injuries, so consider him a viable starting option in all formats.

Analysis: Bass has been a steady offensive presence for the Celtics and is averaging 15.0 points per game over his last five contests. He could stand to shoot a little better, but with 6.0 rebounds and a block per night over that stretch, Bass can be active in a large amount of Fantasy leagues.
News: Celtics forwards Kevin Garnett and Brandon Bass combined for a pair of double-doubles, as they both reached double-digits in rebounding and scoring against the Bucks. Bass, who briefly left the game after turning his ankle was the less effective offensive player of the two, as he scored 12 points to Garnett's 16, however they both grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the team. Despite his minor ankle injury, Bass ended up leading the team in minutes played on Thursday, seeing the floor for 37 minutes as the Celtics defeated the Bucks, 100-91.
Analysis: Bass is averaging a career-high 11.8 points per game in 2011-12. His field-goal percentage is a little below his norm, however that can be excused because of the larger load he has taken on. Bass is a solid player who should continue to see an increased role on the team for the rest of the season, as injuries have left them short-handed in the front court. He is a viable low-end Fantasy option moving forward.
News: Celtics forward Brandon Bass fouled out of Monday's game against the Clippers, but not before leading the team with nine rebounds. Bass also chipped in with 10 points -- the fourth time in March he scored in double figures. Bass is averaging 11.3 points per game in March.
Analysis: Bass is averaging a career-high 11.7 points per game in 2011-12. His field-goal percentage is a little below his norm, but Bass has increased both his scoring and rebounding average this season. He is not a double-double machine, but Bass is worth considering as a low-end Fantasy start.

Bass left briefly in the first quarter to have his ankle re-tapped, but was able to return to the 97-92 victory. He finished with eight points and four rebounds, while also adding three rebounds and a steal to his stat line.
Analysis: Bass continues to be plagued by his problematic left ankle, but5 was able to play through it on Tuesday. However, this is something Fantasy owners will have to continue and monitor for the remainder of the season. Bass is averaging a career-high 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season and should continue to see plenty of minutes as a starter. As long as he is able to stay healthy, owners can view the 26-year-old as a viable option in the majority of formats.
News: Boston forward Brandon Bass notched 18 points and three rebounds during the Celtics' 115-111 victory over New York on Sunday afternoon. Bass, who connected on 6 of 11 shots from the field and a perfect 6 for 6 at the free-throw line, added four blocks.
Analysis: Bass was inserted into the starting lineup again Sunday and finished with his highest scoring output since Jan. 23 against Orlando (19). He still remains inconsistent with his shot selection, but has posted at least a 54-percent mark from the field over his past two games. Bass should receive plenty of minutes as a starter and is considered a quality Fantasy option in most formats for Week 11 (March 5-11) when Boston plays four times.
News: Boston forward Brandon Bass, who had missed six games with swelling in his left knee, returned to the lineup on Tuesday night against Cleveland. Bass started off the game shooting the ball very well, hitting his first five shots. He finished the game going 6 for 12 from the floor and 12 points. News: Celtics F Brandon Bass admitted Tuesday he might not return to the lineup until after the All-Star break because of a knee injury, according to the Boston Herald. The team said Sunday that Bass was expected to miss two weeks of playing time. "Yeah, something like that," Bass told reporters about a likely return post-All Star break. "But a 10 to 14-day rest is perfect, because it allows me to do what I need to do."
Analysis: Bass was attempting to play through the knee injury that originally occurred Jan. 26 during a game at Orlando. He missed one game because of the issue (Feb. 5) before returning to play the next three and likely rushed himself back too soon. "I just wanted to play," Bass said. "I felt that I could keep going, but my knee kept getting weaker and weaker." Fantasy owners should continue to reserve Bass in all formats while he's sidelined.

That will see Bass out until at least the end of February. Bass was averaging 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game over 29 minutes for the Celtics on the year. When healthy, he has plenty of value in deeper Fantasy formats.

He is also contributing a solid average of 6.3 rebounds a night -- also a career best -- during his first season with the Celtics. Still, he has not topped 20 points in a game since the season opener and should be viewed as a mid-range option in deeper Fantasy formats.

Bass is averaging 11.6 points, 5.8 boards and 2.2 assists per game over his last five. When healthy, Bass is a solid Fantasy option in deeper formats. He's averaging 9.0 points, 6.2 boards and 1.0 assist per game over his last five contests, while getting 28 minutes of court time. Bass has struggled with his shot though as he's shooting 39.1 percent from the field, which is low for a big man. Still, Bass is too inconsistent to rely on in all Fantasy leagues. He is averaging 10.4 points with 7.2 rebounds in his last five games and is shooting 50 percent from the field over that span. The 26-year-old has flourished since coming to the Celtics in the offseason and is finding production on an aging team. He is on pace for a career campaign so continue to roll with Bass as a low-end option in larger Fantasy formats heading into Week 4 (Jan. 16-22).

Analysis: Bass is averaging just 26.5 minutes-per game right now as Kevin Garnetts primary backup, but he is one of the Celtics go-to options on offense despite that. He attempted the most shots on the team on Friday, and is now shooting 53.1 percent from the field. He is averaging just under six rebounds-per game to go along with his solid scoring, so Fantasy owners should consider him a solid starting option in all formats moving forward.

He added 11 rebounds, recording his first 20-and-10 double-double for his career. Bass had played 336 career games prior to Sunday and had never accomplished the feat prior.
Analysis: Bass jumped right into the lineup for Sasha Pavlovic and Kevin Garnett at times and looked like an excellent scoring option for the second team. Obviously, if he keeps this up, Bass would be an instant sensation off the waiver wire. Bass could have an excellent season as he helps keep Boston's veterans healthy. He should get plenty of minutes. Consider him a player worth monitoring going forward as a possible waiver-wire pickup.
News: Newly acquired Celtics F Brandon Bass scored 12 poitns on four of five shooting in the Celtics preseason finale against the Raptors. He added just two rebounds, but had five boards in the first preseason game, to go along with nine points.

He scored 11.2 points-per game and had 5.6 rebounds in 26.1 minutes last season, but he could best those numbers this season. He is a fine Fantasy option in the later rounds on Draft Day.
News: According to Yahoo Sports, Boston has agreed to deal F Glen Davis in a sign-and-trade to Orlando in exchange for F Brandon Bass, a hard-working player with a solid amount of offensive skill who never seemed to fit into Magic coach Stan Van Gundy's rotation. Bass finished with a career-high 11.2 points per game last season, his second with Orlando.
Analysis: The Celtics upgraded with a young player that likely just needs more opportunity, as Bass can rebound and hit a little jumper. The deal was likely motivated by cost as Bass fits in at a cheaper price. The 26-year-old is also a strong rebounder and pulled down 5.6 caroms per game last year. Fantasy owners should consider him a quality option in the later rounds of most deeper 2011-12 Fantasy drafts.
News: After shooting a combined 26 percent (5 of 19) from the field over his last two games, Magic F Brandon Bass was able to find his shot during Monday's 97-86 win over the Cavaliers. He went 4 of 8 at the charity stripe and also chipped in with six rebounds, two steals, and a block while logging 35 minutes. Bass is averaging 13.4 points and 5.6 rebounds over his last five contests.
Analysis: Bass finally re-discovered his scoring touch on Monday after putting up some pretty pedestrian type numbers of late. He has scored in double figures just three times over his last 11 games, despite starting every game over that stretch. Still, playing alongside Dwight Howard is always going to limit his rebound and even his scoring chances somewhat, which is way Bass should remain a low-end Fantasy option moving forward.
News: Magic forward Brandon Bass wasn't much of a factor in Monday's 89-85 loss to the Blazers. Bass finished with nine points in the contest on 4 of 9 shooting from the field. He made his lone free-throw attempt and also chipped in with seven rebounds, two steals and an assist while logging 24 minutes. Continue to view Bass as a low-end Fantasy option moving forward.

Bass connected on 5 of 8 from the field and was a glistening 7 for 8 at the free-throw line to post his highest scoring output since Jan. 22 against Houston (18). The 6-foot-8 LSU product also matched a season-high with three blocks and had an assist while logging 33 minutes -- his highest total in the three games.
Analysis: Bass, who remains in the starting lineup at power forward, snapped out of a minor slump in which he scored single digits in his last two games. His best Fantasy value recently has stemmed from rebounding and he is averaging 7.0 boards in his last five games. Still, he was better than Orlando's other power forward. Ryan Anderson, who Bass replaced in the starting lineup, finished with just six points while playing 27 minutes. Fantasy owners should monitor his playing time and view him as a mid-range option in deeper formats.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy has decided to return Brandon Bass to the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Washington. Ryan Anderson, therefore, returns to a bench role.
Analysis: On Wednesday morning Van Gundy said the difference in the starting lineup between the two of them starting is marginal, and he likes the way Anderson plays coming off the bench, so he decided to go with Bass as the teams regular starter. Expect Stan Van Gundy to mix and match based on matchups, but we have seen both Bass and Anderson be able to produce viable numbers while both have been healthy because they provide different assets. Consider Bass a viable No. 4 forward option in standard formats.
News: Everyone associated with the Magic understands how valuable Brandon Bass has become to the Orlando franchise. When he walked toward the scorer's table Sunday for his first action since Jan. 31, the sellout Amway Center crowd greeted him with a roar usually reserved for a Dwight Howard dunk. "It felt good just to get back on the court and to be out there playing with the guys," said Bass, who had missed the previous six games with a sprained left ankle before playing in the 89-75 win against the Los Angeles Lakers. "I'm confident in my role now and happy with how I've been contributing," said Bass, 25. "There's always room for improvement, but I definitely feel like I'm getting involved now."
Analysis: Last season Bass appeared in just 50 games, with only three starts. This season he's appeared in 50 of Orlando's 56 games, with 26 starts. His rebounding has more than doubled from 2.5 to 5.7 per game, and his minutes (24.9 mpg) and scoring (11 ppg) have nearly doubled from last season's averages of 13 and 5.8, respectively. He posted a career-high 27 points on Dec. 3 at Detroit and has also scored in double figures 31 times this season, compared to 11 all of last year. Bass has become a solid option in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News:Brandon Bass, who had missed the previous six games with a sprained left ankle, didn't start Sunday against the Lakers. However, he made his first appearance since Jan. 31 with 7:56 left in the first quarter after Ryan Anderson picked up his second foul. Bass picked up eight rebounds and played 30 minutes, chipping in six points.
Analysis: Anderson, meanwhile, saw his playing time dip from 28 minutes in his previous game to 18 on Sunday. Some of that had to do with the early foul trouble. Expect Stan Van Gundy to mix and match based on matchups, but we have seen both Bass and Anderson be able to produce viable numbers while both have been healthy because they provide different assets. Bass is not yet a safe play in Fantasy with the Magic slated for just one game in the upcoming scoring period, but it seems he'll be useful as a source of low-end double-digit scoring and some decent rebounding fairly soon.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Magic PF Brandon Bass will come off the bench against the Lakers on Sunday afternoon. Bass had missed six straight games with an ankle injury.
Analysis: Bass will likely regain his starting spot soon, but he's also Dwight Howard's primary backup. Unless Orlando makes a trade for a true center, Bass will probably continue to have both roles. Bass was putting up career-best numbers of 11.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game before getting hurt. Fantasy owners should keep him reserved though even if Bass can return. The Magic play just once in Week 17 (Feb. 14-20), so Bass won't contribute much. When healthy, Bass is a No. 4 Fantasy forward and No. 2 center in deeper leagues where he gets dual eligibility.
News: Magic forward Brandon Bass hasn't played since spraining his ankle on Jan. 31, but expects to return to action on Sunday against the Lakers. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Bass participated in most of practice on Saturday, which included a full-speed scrimmage. Bass was not wearing his bulky cast from earlier in the week, but instead just had his ankle taped. He said he felt good. Coach Stan Van Gundy said the team would make a final decision on Sunday morning. Im planning on playing, Bass said. If Stan calls my name, Ill be ready.
Analysis: Bass will likely regain his starting spot when he returns to action, but he's also Dwight Howard's primary backup.
News: The Magic's official team website reports that forward Brandon Bass went through part of shootaround Friday and feels that he'll play Sunday against the Lakers. Coach Stan Van Gundy said the team will have a better idea Saturday. Bass is not expected to play Friday night against New Orleans.
Analysis: Bass was putting up career-best numbers of 11.1 points and 5.6 rebounds a game before getting hurt. Keep an eye on what happens heading into Fantasy Week 17, but Bass is not worth using in the majority of leagues until after the All-Star break. When healthy, Bass is a No. 4 Fantasy forward and No. 2 center in deeper leagues where he gets dual eligibility.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Magic PF Brandon Bass (ankle) will not play against the Hornets on Friday. Coach Stan Van Gundy still thinks Bass will be out until after the All-Star break. "Well, he's getting better," Van Gundy said. "His swelling's going down. He's running in the pool and things like that. Again, I said from the beginning I'd be really surprised if he plays before the all-star break. So, I'll sort of stick to that. I know [athletic trainer] Keon [Weise] was ambitious and is ambitious and is hoping to get him back before that. It certainly will not be Friday night. That you can count on."
Analysis: Bass was putting up career-best numbers of 11.1 points and 5.6 points a game before getting hurt, taking full advantage of Rashard Lewis' departure. He remains worth stashing away until he's back on the court and contributing.
News: According to the team's official website, Magic F Brandon Bass (ankle) is progressing "faster than expected" and could be ready to return to action by Feb. 11 against New Orleans. He had been expected to be out through the All-Star break.
Analysis: This is far from a guarantee, but it is a good sign that he is ahead of pace on his recovery. He should still be reserved in all weekly formats and daily leagues until a concrete return date is set, but Bass remains worth of stashing in most standard formats as a solid rebounder and decent scorer while getting good minutes at power forward for Orlando. Continue to monitor his progress.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Magic coach Stan Van Gundy is not optimistic F Brandon Bass can return from his ankle injury until after the All-Star Game on Feb. 20. "Bass will be out for quite a while, at least all of this week," Van Gundy said after practice ended Wednesday. "You're not going to see him in the Miami, Washington or Boston games, and I don't think you'll see him in the Clipper or Philadelphia game next week either. So, I think you're looking at a minimum probably of five games with him, and quite possibly, you won't see him again until after the all-star break. He got a good sprain and had a significant amount of swelling."
Analysis: It appears the Magic will take a cautious approach with Bass, who has emerged as a steady rebounder and scorer at the power forward position since the team traded away Rashard Lewis. In his absence, expect Ryan Anderson to see more playing time and added production. Bass remains worth stashing in most standard leagues. Continue to monitor his progress.
News: According to the team's official website, Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said on Wednesday that F Brandon Bass could be sidelined through the All-Star break. Bass suffered an injury to his lower left leg in Monday's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass suffered an injury to his lower left leg in Monday's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, reports the Orlando Sentinel. Bass appeared to roll his ankle as he came down from a jumper in the third quarter and was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle later after leaving the game. He had to be helped off the court to the locker room. Bass played 25 minutes before going down and had gone 6 of 7 from the field to score 13 points. He added three assists, three rebounds and a block.
Analysis: Bass appears to have avoided serious injury here but he could definitely miss a few games. He's going to be considered day to day at first and Fantasy owners will need to monitor this going forward. Bass has been averaging about 11 points and six boards per game with a block over his last five contests. That makes him worth using in deeper formats, when healthy.
News: After Orlando made those block bluster trades back in December, the one spot on the roster that was lacking was a backup center to Dwight Howard. GM Otis Smith told the Orlando Sentinel, he wasn't in a hurry to make another trade and has not made a big move yet. The reason being is his faith in Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson. I think one thing that the trades showed is the confidence that we have in those guys to be able to play, said Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, referring to Bass and Anderson. It created more opportunity for [Anderson] and Brandon and theyve played well. Bass is averaging more points than former backup center Marcin Gortat -- 18.2 to 12.5 points per 48 minutes (based on his minutes at center).
Analysis: Bass may not be the answer for the Magic in terms of a backup center, but for now he's working out fine and Smith is happy with him. But the moment he starts to struggle, Bass could be in trouble. Over his last five games he's averaging 11.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game in 30 minutes of action. Fantasy owners in deeper leagues should view Bass as a decent reserve player in standard CBSSports.com formats. He won't post monster numbers, but Bass is a suitable option, especially in formats that allow dual eligibility.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass continued to start on Wednesday night in an overtime win over the Sixers. Bass played 37 minutes in the starting lineup and scored 11 points with 10 rebounds and a blocked shot. He did not shoot well, however, going just 3 for 11 from the field. Bass added two steals. Meanwhile, Ryan Anderson came off the bench and scored a team-high 20 points with four 3-pointers in 28 minutes.
Analysis: Bass and Anderson have been interchangeable in the starting lineup at times this season and it usually depends on the whim that Stan Van Gundy is currently operating on. As long as Bass is starting he should remain a decent Fantasy option in deeper leagues and a quality reserve in standard formats. But if he moves to the bench or continues to have his minutes cut then his value will decline.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said Thursday after a 125-124 loss to Oklahoma City that he may consider changing his starting lineup. The most likely move would be to bench power forward Brandon Bass for Ryan Anderson. Against the Thunder, Bass played 20 minutes and finished with eight points and four rebounds. Anderson, meanwhile, played 23 minutes and had 15 points and five rebounds. Well, I didnt think he was playing very well, Van Gundy said of Bass. Hes struggling a little bit. And Ryan was playing well, spreading the floor out, and then they went small in the fourth quarter and theres nobody out there for either one of em to guard until the very, very end when [Jeff] Green when came back in. But we were having too much success with the floor spread out, and we needed to get stops even though we didnt. So, I didnt want to play Brandon because I wanted the floor spread out and we needed to.
Analysis: Keep an eye on what develops because Bass has played well since the Magic traded Rashard Lewis to Washington. In his past two games, both losses for Orlando, Bass failed to score in double figures, but he had at least 10 points in his previous five games. As long as Bass is starting he should remain a decent Fantasy option in deeper leagues and a quality reserve in standard formats. But if he moves to the bench or continues to have his minutes cut then his value will decline.
News: Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy has seen a difference in forward Brandon Bass since he's been inserted into the starting lineup, according to NBA.com. Number one, hes gotten a lot better defensively, Van Gundy said. Hes putting more emphasis on rebounding the ball. Over his last 10 games, Bass is averaging 5.5 rebounds per contest. In his 14 starts, Bass is averaging 13.3 points and 5.6 boards per outing.
Analysis: Bass has been playing through a sore knee, which is something Fantasy owners should keep an eye on. He's having his best year as a pro this season as the Magic have tweaked their roster. While he's starting and healthy, Bass should be viewed as a solid forward option in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Magic PF Brandon Bass participated fully in Tuesday's practice. Bass played through a knee injury on Monday and appears to have suffered no setbacks.
Analysis: The fact Bass was back out on the court Tuesday, one day after playing through a sore knee, is a great sign for his Fantasy owners. Bass has averaged 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and has shot 53 percent from the field this season, and has Fantasy value in deeper leagues when healthy.
News: Magic forward Brandon Bass, who was a game-time decision with a knee injury, logged 24 minutes in Monday's game against the Warriors. Bass scored 10 points in the contest on 3 of 8 shooting from the field. He went 4 of 5 from the charity stripe and finished with three rebounds.
Analysis: Bass was able to play on Monday night, but he clearly isn't at 100 percent. Fantasy owners are going to keep an eye on his status heading into the next few games to see if needs to take a night off. Bass has averaged 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and has shot 53 percent from the field over 24 minutes per night, and has Fantasy value in deeper leagues when healthy.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass is going to start on Monday against Golden State, coming off a knee injury, reports the Orlando Sentinel. Bass got the OK to play from coach Stan Van Gundy.
Analysis: Bass may be healthy enough to play for Orlando, but he's not 100 percent. He's still a bit of a risky play for Week 11 (Jan. 3-9) because we don't know if he'll remain healthy the entire period. When healthy, Bass has averaged 11.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and has shot 53 percent from the field over 24 minutes per night. He has value in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Brandon Bass (knee) was able to participate in Monday's morning shootaround, but he remains a game-time decision for Monday's game against the Warriors. If Bass can play tonight, he will be in the Magics starting lineup, Van Gundy said. Bass sounded optimistic that he will be able to face the Warriors. I dont think its going to prevent me from playing, Bass said. Well, I hope not. Im going to go out tonight and see how I feel and see if I can give it a try.
Analysis: Coach Stan Van Gundy said a team physician and another doctor have reviewed the scans of Bass knee, and the doctors arent convinced that he has a torn meniscus. So, for the time being, the team will attempt to treat the discomfort in Bass knee without surgery. We still consider Bass risky to start in weekly formats for Week 11 (Dec. 3-9) given this situation. Bass is averaging 13.0 points and 5.8 rebounds over his previous five games.
News:The Orlando Sentinel reports that Brandon Bass said at practice Sunday that he might need arthroscopic knee surgery. He has been dealing with lingering soreness in his left knee after he came down hard on it on Thursday night and "heard a pop." If Bass can not play, Ryan Anderson will start at power forward.
Analysis: Bass sat out practice on Friday and Sunday due to the soreness and swelling he has dealt with since then. He underwent an MRI and could know as soon as Monday whether or not he needs surgery. Consider too risky to start in weekly formats for Week 11 (Dec. 3-9) given this situation. Bass was averaging 13.0 points and 5.8 rebounds over his previous five games.
News: Magic PF Brandon Bass, who was replaced in the starting lineup by J.J. Redick on Tuesday, is back starting at power forward Thursday against the Spurs. Coach Stan Van Gundy told the Orlando Sentinel he plans to stick with that lineup for the "foreseeable future."
Analysis: Bass has thrived as a starter, averaging 14.4 points and 7.0 rebounds, which is enough to make him a worthwhile Fantasy option. With the news he'll remain in the starting lineup, he's worth a flier in all Fantasy leagues.
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Brandon Bass will remain in the starting lineup at power forward. The Magic shuffled their roster on Saturday by acquiring Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu. Bass has averaged 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in three starts this season.
Analysis: Bass will remain in the starting lineup, allowing him to retain much of the Fantasy appeal he has gained in the short term. However, Fantasy owners should expect his touches to become reduced on the offensive end. In his first three starts, he has seen an average of around 12 shots per game. With offensive weapons like Arenas, Richardson and -- of course -- Dwight Howard on the team, he is not likely to see such a high-volume of touches. Hedo Turkoglu is 6-10 and capable of taking some minutes from Bass at the four, but power forward is not his most comfortable position and Bass will remain at the four when the Magic need defense and rebounding. Bass should remain a consistent source of rebounds, but be aware of a potential dip in scoring. For now, he remains a viable play as a No. 4 forward -- especially in cumulative leagues for Week 9 (Dec. 20-26) with the Magic one of just three teams scheduled for four games.
News: Orlando forward Brandon Bass was the beneficiary of some nice passes from teammate J.J. Redick on Saturday night against Philadelphia. Bass would shoot 8 for 19 from the field and hit both his foul shots versus the 76ers, finishing with 18 points. Redick found Bass on a few times for easy dunks, but the Magic wouldn't be able to overcome playing with just eight players. Orlando traded four players on Saturday, which should allow Bass to remain a starter. He was already named a starter through Christmas, but with the Magic lacking size on the frontcourt, Bass will be leaned on more. He added eight rebounds in his 34 minutes of court time.
Analysis: Bass is averaging 11.8 points and 6.4 boards over his last five games for Orlando. When he starts, Bass' numbers go up slightly -- 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds. But that was with Marcin Gortat and Rashard Lewis still on the team. Bass could produce around 18 points and nine boards if the Magic's roster stays as is. With Orlando playing four games in Week 9 (Dec. 20-26), Bass should be viewed as a solid pickup off the waiver wire in most Fantasy leagues. Consider him a low-end start for now.
News: Magic PF Brandon Bass, who has started three straight games with Quentin Richardson sidelined by an elbow injury, will continue to start through Dec. 25 against the Celtics, coach Stan Van Gundy told the Orlando Sentinel on Friday. Bass is averaging 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in the three starts.
Analysis: Nobody's saying Bass won't continue to start if he keeps playing as well as he has, but Van Gundy has been hesitant to give him big minutes in the past. If you're looking for some help at forward, Bass is clearly putting up starter-caliber numbers right now, but you shouldn't get too attached to him.
News: With Orlando forward Quentin Richardson ruled out for Tuesday's game at Denver, the Magic gave power forward Brandon Bass a chance to start the game. Bass played well over 27 minutes on the floor, scoring 10 points on 5 of 11 shooting. He added three rebounds in the performance as Rashard Lewis moved over to the small forward spot.
Analysis: In two starts this season entering Tuesday, Bass has averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Bass can produce when given the opportunity, but he's not expected to continue to get this many minutes or remain in the starting lineup. His long-term Fantasy appeal remains spotty at best.
News: Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy mixed his starting lineup on Friday night, giving forward Brandon Bass the nod over Quentin Richardson. Bass didn't disappoint as he scored 18 points and eight rebounds in his 28 minutes of court time. He shot 8 for 11 from the field and nailed both his foul shots. Bass would add an assist, but the Magic would lose their third straight game, 117-105.
Analysis: Bass has had his playing time go up and down this year. He has put up solid outings like his one on Friday, but will follow it up with a so-so game. He's averaging 13.4 points and 5.6 rebounds over his last five games, but that too is skewed because most the team dealt with flu-like symptoms during the last week. Bass is a nice player to own in deeper Fantasy leagues, but until he gets some consistent play and production, he's not worth much in most formats.
News: Orlando forward Brandon Bass scored a career-high 27 points in Friday's 104-91 win over the Pistons. The Magic were without starters Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson, who both have the flu. Bass stepped up in a big way in their absence, making his first 11 shots and finishing 11 of 12 from the field. He went 5 of 7 from the free-throw line and also chipped in with three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 32 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Bass has been a bit inconsistent this season but has been playing at a high level recently. He is averaging 14 points over his last five contests while seeing about 22 minutes a game over that stretch. Still, it will be difficult for Bass to put up big numbers on a nightly basis unless he sees more playing time. Until that happens, continue to view him as an emergency stopgap measure off the waiver wire in deeper leagues.
News: Magic F Brandon Bass chipped in 17 points off the bench in Wednesday's game in Chicago. He played 29 minutes and went 5 of 8 from the field and 7 of 7 from the foul line. He had scored a combined 16 points in his two previous games.
Analysis: Bass continues to put up stat lines like this on a very inconsistent basis. The Magic mix and match at power forward and Bass will not be able to put up numbers on a consistent basis unless his role changes. Until that happens, Bass remains just an emergency stopgap measure off the waiver wire in deeper leagues.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass saw 21 minutes on the floor against the Pistons in an easy Orlando win on Tuesday. Bass scored nine points on 4 of 8 shooting with a free throw. He added seven rebounds.
Analysis: Bass is as volatile as it gets in terms of consistent scoring production. He's scored in double figures twice in his last five games and totaled 17 points in the other three. He gives fairly consistent rebounding numbers, but only for a player who is best used in the deepest of Fantasy formats.
News: Magic forward Brandon Bass fell one point short of his season high on Wednesday night against the Heat. Bass shot 9 for 12 from the field, finishing with 18 points, and showed some range as he made some18-footers. Bass added six rebounds, an assist and a steal in his 26 minutes of action. Orlando would go on to beat Miami, 104-95.
Analysis: Bass had been in a mini slump for the Magic as his playing time had decreased in four straight games and had scored just 17 points in a three-game span. He entered Wednesday's outing averaging 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for Orlando. While he has started a few games for the Magic this year, his main role will be off the bench. That limits his Fantasy value to the deepest category-based leagues at this time.
News: Magic forward Brandon Bass is producing much over his last three games. After Saturday's 8 point and four rebound outing against the Pacers, Bass is averaging 7.6 points and 4.0 rebounds over his last three outings. Bass shot 4 for 9 from the field and added a block, a steal and two assists in his 19 minutes of action on Saturday.
Analysis: Bass had been averaging a career-high 9.3 points and 5.4 boards per contest this season. While he's one of the first players off the bench for Orlando, coach Stan Van Gundy has experimented him as a starter too. He is a good source of rebounds, but should only be a Fantasy option in the deepest of category-based formats.
News: Orlando forward Brandon Bass remains in the rotation for the Magic, although he's not starting. With Ryan Anderson riding the pine, Bass is the first forward off the bench and is making the most of his opportunities. he's grabbed at least eight boards in the last three games for the Magic. Bass went 4 for 6 from the field and hit all six of his foul shots -- something they struggle to do as a team -- finishing with 14 points on Saturday. He added eight rebounds, one block, one steal and two assists in his 21 minutes of action against the Nets.
Analysis: Coach Stan Van Gundy experimented with Bass in the starting lineup this year, but decided to go with his smaller starting five. Bass is the first big man off the bench and provides the Magic with another big body besides Dwight Howard to hit the glass. Fantasy owners should consider him an option in the deepest of category-based leagues as he shoots a nice percentage from the field and is a decent source of rebounds.
News: Magic F Ryan Anderson got the start at power forward in Wednesday's game against Utah, but lasted just over a minute on the floor before being removed from the game and not returning. He went to the floor on a loose ball scuffle, but did not appear to be injured on the play. Brandon Bass saw a majority of the playing time at the four, finishing with 14 points and four rebounds in 37 minutes.
Analysis: This continues to be a developing situation as the Magic and coach Stan Van Gundy continue to shuffle options at power forward in order to keep Rashard Lewis at his more comfortable small forward position. Anderson has had some spotty decent performances and so has Bass, but neither player will be a recommended Fantasy option until somebody can emerge as the victor for consistent playing time.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass watched as Ryan Anderson got the start Monday against Atlanta. Bass played 18 minutes off the bench in the victory and scored six points on 3 of 8 shooting. He grabbed five rebounds.
Analysis: Bass is getting around 18-20 minutes per game this season and is averaging nine points per contest. With minutes, Bass can go off as he did against Minnesota for 19 points. That said, he's mainly just a low-end source of rebounds.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass watched as Ryan Anderson got the start on Wednesday against Minnesota. Bass didn't mind as he played 24 minutes and had the best game of his season thus far. Bass shot 6 of 7 from the field to score 19 points off the bench. He went 7 for 7 from the line and added eight rebounds for the Magic.
Analysis: Bass and Anderson have been linked with Bass seemingly the first player off the bench. The Magic said Anderson would get his minutes and he did Wednesday as a starter. Still, it didn't take away from Bass whatsoever. With the Magic up big, Bass got big minutes and played extremely well. After three games, he's averaging 10.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and is shooting quite well from the field and the line. Bass is definitely worth a look in deeper leagues if you need rebounding help.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass has been the first player off the bench in the first two games of the season but Magic coach Stan Van Gundy wants to reiterate that he has not beaten out Ryan Anderson for the backup PF spot, reports the Orlando Sentinel Monday. "Not at all," Van Gundy said. Against Miami, Van Gundy simply thought Bass would be a better matchup against Chris Bosh. "Those guys have both been so good through this whole first month, I don't want to bury either one of them on the bench," Van Gundy said. "I think it's too important to our team that we keep both of them alive and working and getting better, so that we have the flexibility of working with them both."
Analysis: Bass has played 18.5 minutes per game after two contests compared to 15 by Anderson. That said, the production has been similar with Anderson dropping nine points and five rebounds compared to Bass' 6.5 points and 5.5 boards. Bass is an energetic spark around the basket that could lead him to more and more minutes this season, except he's not going to see a whole lot more than Anderson anytime soon. Both players are really just reserve options in Fantasy right now until one gets the other's minutes.
News: Magic F Brandon Bass managed to scrape together nine points in Friday's loss to the Heat by making the most of any opportunity he had. He shot just 1 of 5 from the floor, but sunk 7 of 8 free throws. Bass also pulled down six rebounds and assisted on a Dwight Howard basket in 21 minutes of action. He turned the ball over once. The night before, Bass finished with four points and five rebounds in 16 minutes.
Analysis: Bass is an energetic spark around the basket that could lead him to more and more minutes this season. In the preseason, he showed plenty of double-double potential and through two games the potential remains. Bass could be a good sleeper to snatch up on Fantasy rosters before he breaks out and it's too late.
News: Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy confirmed on Wednesday to the Orlando Sentinel that both Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson will be apart of his bench rotation this season.
Analysis: Bass has earned his spot in the rotation by scoring 16, 14 and 17 points, respectively, in each of his last three preseason games. Bass is shooting well from the field and adding near double digits in rebounds as well. The way he's been playing, Bass has late-round Fantasy sleeper written all over him.
News: Magic PF Brandon Bass has looked good this preseason and that continued on Monday night in a win over Atlanta. Bass paced the Magic with 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting. He added eight rebounds over 20 minutes on the floor. Bass did not pick up an assist, steal or block in the game.
Analysis: Bass has done an excellent job for Orlando in the preseason. He has scored 16, 14 and 17 points, respectively, in each of his last three games. Bass is shooting well from the field and adding near double digits in rebounds as well. The way he's been playing, Bass has late-round Fantasy sleeper written all over him.
News: Magic forward Brandon Bass recorded a double-double on Saturday against the Bulls as he started alongside Rashard Lewis and Dwight Howard on the frontcourt. He tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes of play. He made 7 of his 9 shots from the field and also had two assists.
Analysis: Bass has been contributing for the Magic all preseason as he was averaging 10.7 points and 6.3 boards through his first three games. Coach Stan Van Gundy has been experimenting him in the starting lineup this preseason and it's worked out alright. The Magic are thin on the frontcourt and Bass does give Howard some help on the boards when they are on the floor together. Plus it allows Lewis to play at a position he is more comfortable at. Fantasy owners should keep tabs on Bass and the Magic during the preseason. He could be a late-round sleeper with some potential if he gets a starting gig in Orlando.
News: According to the Orlando Sentinel, Magic PF Brandon Bass probably won't get to play much this season unless he's traded. Coach Stan Van Gundy started his second team Thursday against the Bobcats, and Bass wasn't in the lineup, which suggests he's not even in the team's top 10.
Analysis: Bass had 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench Thursday -- both team highs -- so he still has the ability to make a worthwhile contribution in Fantasy. Problem is he won't have the opportunity, barring a series of injuries or a trade. He looked like he might have a bounce-back season with the Magic hoping to play Rashard Lewis more at small forward, but they apparently have other players they can substitute at power forward. Bass isn't worth drafting in Fantasy at this time.
News: Magic forward Brandon Bass shot 50 percent from the field on Thursday against the Bobcats and hit 4 of his 5 foul shots. The backup forward finished the day with 16 points to lead the team and grabbed nine boards -- four offensive. He threw in an assist, a steal and two blocked shots.
Analysis: Bass has been contributing for the Magic all preseason, but as of right now his role with the team is in flux. The Magic have experimented starting him alongside Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis on the frontcourt. That would give them a solid group, but leave them thin on the bench when it comes to big men. Fantasy owners should keep tabs on Bass and the Magic during the preseason. He could be a late-round sleeper with some potential if he gets a starting gig in Orlando.
News: Magic F Brandon Bass was productive in Friday's preseason game against the Pacers. Bass started at power forward and had nine points on 3 of 5 shooting and seven rebounds in the 93-86 loss. Bass also had an assist and three blocks.
Analysis: With the Magic do some tweaking to their lineup, Bass got the start on Friday. The team has been experimenting with Rashard Lewis at the small forward position and with Bass playing the power spot. Fantasy owners should continue to see how this plays out over the course of the preseason. If Bass becomes a starter, his Fantasy value would obviously increase.
News: The Magic are experimenting with a lineup change at the start of training camp that would push Rashard Lewis back to his more natural small forward position. Such a move would move Brandon Bass into the lineup at power forward and move Mickael Pietrus to the bench.
Analysis: Any shift with Lewis would essentially remold Orlando's offensive philosophy. The move isn't set in stone by any means, but it does create the possibility that Bass could have some increased Fantasy appeal going into the season. Bass averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in his most productive season with the Mavericks in 2008-09 and would still be a very limited option in Fantasy even as a starter.
News: Orlando F Brandon Bass scored eight points and grabbed two rebounds in a win over the Mavericks on Thursday. Bass shot 3 of 5 from the field in 12 minutes.
Analysis: Bass is averaging 2.5 points and a rebound over his last five games. He has no Fantasy appeal and can be left on waivers in all formats.
News: Orlando F Brandon Bass scored 16 points and added nine rebounds in a win over the Wizards on Saturday. Bass shot 6 of 10 from the floor while adding an assist and a block in 30 minutes.
Analysis: Bass has seen an increase in his minutes of his last two contests, but that is because the Magic were blowing out their opponent. He will rarely see important minutes during a game, and Bass offers minimal Fantasy appeal and can be reserved in all formats.
News: Orlando F Brandon Bass saw some rare minutes in a blowout win over Chicago on Thursday and scored 13 points. Bass shot 4 of 5 from the field while adding eight rebounds and two blocks in 22 minutes.
Analysis: Bass normally gets higher minutes in games that are decided early. He is not usually playing in clutch situations. He doesn't offer much Fantasy appeal.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards on Wednesday in a win over Golden State. He played 16 minutes and shot 3 for 8 from the field.
Analysis: Bass doesn't always get a spot in the rotation and really doesn't have any Fantasy value at this time.
News: Magic F/C Brandon Bass, who had become a non-factor off the bench since Rashard Lewis returned from his 10-game suspension, had 17 points and three rebounds in 18 minutes Wednesday against the Knicks. He had played in only two of the team's previous six games.
Analysis: Bass played a total of 11 minutes during that six-game stretch, with the Magic clearly preferring players like Ryan Anderson to him. Bass is a good scorer and rebounder when he gets the minutes, but his playing time is too inconsistent right now for him to make an impact in Fantasy. Leave him on waivers.
News: Magic PF Brandon Bass, who didn't play at all in the team's last game Friday against the Nets, played 14 minutes off the bench Monday against the Bobcats. He finished with 10 points and six rebounds. He lost some playing time with fellow PF Ryan Anderson, back from an ankle injury, also coming off the bench. Anderson was previously in the starting lineup with Rashard Lewis serving a 10-game suspension.
Analysis: The Magic frontcourt has suddenly become much more crowded, which can only hurt Bass' prospects going forward. He's still a good scorer and rebounder off the bench, but his minutes will be too inconsistent for Fantasy use.
News: Orlando PF Brandon Bass scored in double figures for the second straight game on Friday in a win over the Pistons. Bass dropped 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting. He added six rebounds.
Analysis: Bass is averaging 10 points per game for the Magic in 23 minutes off the bench per night. He's giving Orlando some excellent minutes off the bench and is contributing nicely as a secondary player. If he had center eligibility in Fantasy he'd be worth a look at a thin position. He does not, however, as just a forward, and that limits him to largely being unowned.
News: A person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press that Mavericks forward Brandon Bass is headed to Orlando. Bass agreed Friday to sign with the Magic, according to the person, who was granted anonymity because the Magic had not made an announcement.
Analysis: NBA.com, which first reported the signing, said it was a four-year deal for around $18 million with an escape clause after three years. Bass is only 23, but has been in the NBA for four years - two with the Hornets, the last two with the Mavericks. He averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds over 19.4 minutes per game last season. As a backup big man, his appeal in Fantasy will be limited.
News: Dallas PF Brandon Bass scored in double figures on Wednesday in a win over Miami. Bass dropped 10 points on 4-of-6 from the field. He added eight rebounds and a block.
Analysis: Bass is averaging seven points, four boards and less than a half a block per game over his last five games. Wednesday was a nice performance but it is also the best he can do. He's not worth using in Fantasy at this time.
News: Dallas PF Brandon Bass scored 12 points in 19 minutes on Tuesday against Detroit. Bass was 5-of-7 from the field and he added two rebounds.
Analysis: Bass has put together a couple of nice runs of double digit performances this season, but each time has come back to earth and is playing more like we expect out of him. He is a low-end option who should only be used in the deepest of leagues.
News: Mavericks F/C Brandon Bass had just four points with an assist and a rebound in Wednesday's game against Sacramento. He has played under 20 minutes in each of the team's four games.
Analysis: Bass has put together a couple of nice runs of double digit performances this season, but each time has come back to earth and is playing more like we expect out of him. He is a low-end option who should only be used in the deepest of leagues.
News:Brandon Bass scored 16 of his season-high 20 points in the second quarter and Dallas' reserves contributed 54 points to lift the Mavericks past the Sacramento Kings 116-95 on Saturday night. Bass scored 10 in a 21-7 run that gave the Mavericks a 57-40 lead with 3:48 remaining in the first half. Bass was 7-of-9 from the field with four boards and a block in 22 minutes.
Analysis: The Dallas bench came up huge on Saturday and Bass led the charge. He's scored in double figures in two straight games and even attempted 11 shots on Friday night at Houston. He's clearly getting a little more involved in the offense and could see a nice increase in Fantasy value. He should still only be used in deeper Fantasy leagues at this time.
News: Dallas F Brandon Bass led all Dallas players off the bench, scoring eight points on 2-of-4 shooting. He played 18 minutes in the game, averaging 8.4 points per game over his last five games with 3.8 rebounds.
Analysis: Bass had put together a nice run of double digit performances over a week ago, but has come back to earth and is playing more like we expect out of him. He is a low-end option who should only be used in the deepest of leagues.
News: Dallas forward Brandon Bass made 9-of-11 shots for 19 points, which is a new career high, Wednesday against Portland. He also added four rebounds and one assist.
Analysis: Bass has three games of at least 16 points in his past six outings and has played well for the Mavericks off the bench. Bass is worth adding in deep leagues and should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy center in leagues where position changes are allowed or a No. 4 Fantasy forward.
News: Mavericks forward Brandon Bass had 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks Wednesday against Golden State. This was Bass' third double-double this season, and he is averaging 10.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in his past five games.
Analysis: Bass has played well recently, including scoring a career-high 18 points two games ago against Detroit. He is eligible at forward and center in leagues that allow for dual eligibility, so consider adding Bass in deep formats at this time. He could be a serviceable No. 2 Fantasy center as long as he plays at this level.
News: Dallas F Brandon Bass made 8-of-12 field goals for a new career-high 18 points and six rebounds. It's the second time in four games that Bass has set a career-high, scoring 17 points against the Jazz on Jan. 17.
Analysis: Bass has the potential to put up solid numbers for the Mavericks, but the big numbers are coupled with minute scoring performances. He remains a low-end option reserved for the deepest of leagues.
News: Dallas PF Brandon Bass shot 5-of-9 from the field over 28 minutes on Saturday night in a win and scored a season-high 17 points with nine rebounds.
Analysis: Bass is averaging 10 points over his last five games, up from eight on the season. He's also pulling down six boards with that. That makes him worth owning as a reserve in deeper leagues right now but that is likely the extent of his value.
News: Dallas PF Brandon Bass played 33 minutes off the bench in a loss to the Hornets on Wednesday night. Bass shot 2-of-4 from the field and scored six points with six boards.
Analysis: Bass has been in double figures twice in his last five games and is averaging nine points over that span with six boards and 1.2 blocks per night. He remains no better than a low-end forward option with that kind of production, however.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds in what was only his second double-double of the season. His only other double-digit rebounding performance was the night that he earned the other double-double which was Dec. 7 at Denver.
Analysis: Bass has not been a factor on most nights for the Mavericks. This performance was very out of the ordinary and not something that can be counted on from him. He remains no better than a low-end forward option.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Mavs F Brandon Bass echoed coach Rick Carlisle, saying that he should be getting to the free-throw line more. The 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward has attempted just 38 free throws in 23 games, less than two a game. Better than an 80-percent foul shooter, Bass recognizes that getting to the line more could boost his 7.9-point scoring average. "Maybe I have to pump fake or something," Bass said. "The refs know I'm always going to go strong and won't complain, but lately I'm not getting calls. I'm going to continue to go strong and keep working at it."
Analysis: Bass is averaging 8.8 points and 6.4 boards over 22 minutes per game over his last five contests. Getting to the line more would definitely help his numbers and increase his Fantasy potential. Until that happens, however, he remains just a low-end Fantasy forward.
News: Dallas PF Brandon Bass scored 11 points and grabbed nine boards in Thursday's win over the Bobcats. Bass played 24 minutes off the bench and was 5-for-12 in the game.
Analysis: Bass has scored in double figures in five of his last seven games for the Mavericks. He's only averaging just over 18 minutes per game this season, however, and his stats don't really warrant using in anything but the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
News: Mavericks F/C Brandon Bass had 14 points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes Tuesday against the Clippers, marking his third straight game with at least 10 points and second straight with seven assists.
Analysis: Bass doesn't play much more than 20-25 minutes per game, so he'll continue to produce modest numbers like these. Think of him as a low-end Fantasy forward.
News: Dallas PF Brandon Bass scored six points in 22 minutes off the bench Wednesday against the Rockets. Bass added six boards and a blocked shot.
Analysis: Bass has now played more than 20 minutes in three straight games despite averaging under that total. He's responded by scoring and rebounding more, but only at a marginal increase. He's only recommended in the deepest of deep Fantasy leagues.
News: Dallas PF Brandon Bass played 24 minutes off the bench on Thursday in the team's opening night loss to Houston. Bass scored nine points on 4-of-11 shooting and added six rebounds. He also stole two balls for the Mavericks.
Analysis: Bass played a prominent role off the bench for the Mavericks last season and figures to do the same in 2008-09. That's exactly how he was used in the opener. Bass is considered a very low-end Fantasy forward and not someone recommended for use in anything but the deepest of leagues at this time.
News: The Mavericks are one of the nine NBA teams in Week 1 to play just two games. They will start of the season on Oct. 30 against Houston, who ranked fourth in the NBA in defense last season (92.0 ppg). Then, they'll travel to Minnesota to face Minnesota to face a Timberwolves team that allowed 102.4 points per game. The good news is that the team enters the season at full strength.
Analysis: The team's prominent trio of Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howar and Dirk Nowitzki are good starts in most leagues this week because the condensed schedule means no team is playing more than three games anyway. Jason Terry will come off the bench behind Antoine Wright, but Terry is the better Fantasy option because he will get the majority of the minutes there. Wright is worth owning in larger leagues because he is going to get a good amount of minutes, but is not yet worth activating. Erick Dampier will be the starting center and, as usual, his appeal is limited in Fantasy to that of a No. 3 center. It's not time yet to start fringe options like Brandon Bass, Jerry Stackhouse, Jose Juan Barea, DeSagana Diop, Shawne Williams or Gerald Green. At the moment, Barea is the only player of that group worth owning as Kidd's backup.
News: Mavericks F Brandon Bass averaged career highs in scoring (8.3), rebounding (4.4), assists (0.7), blocks (0.6) and minutes played (19.7) during the 2007-08 regular season, his third in the NBA. Bass had averaged just 7.7 minutes per game in 2006-07 with New Orleans.
Analysis: Bass played a prominent role off the bench for the Mavericks, especially after the team traded away DeSagana Diop. He backed up both bigs for the Mavs and was around 10 points and four rebounds off the bench on most nights. Depending on how the new coaching staff in Dallas plans to use him, Bass could be in line for a similar season in 2008-09.
News: Mavericks F Brandon Bass is unlikely to see much of a role change in the final scoring period of the Fantasy season with his team clinging to a playoff spot. With five games remaining, the Mavs are currently holding the seventh seed, two games ahead of Denver and Golden State.
Analysis: Bass, who scored 19 points with four rebounds in his last game at Phoenix, will continue to see around 20-25 minutes on most nights while backing up Dirk Nowitzki and Erick Dampier. He is very erratic with his outputs, but has been useful as a fifth forward in deep leagues.
News: The Mavericks may have lost Dirk Nowitzki with knee and ankle injuries for at least two weeks, according to initial reports. Brandon Bass would likely start in his place.
Analysis: The team finds itself very thin in the front court already with the trade that sent DeSagana Diop to New Jersey for Jason Kidd. So Bass and Erick Dampier will have to play more minutes than normal to account for the loss. The team will also likely have to add a big from the NBDL or some other free agent move. Bass could become a consistent double-digit scorer with decent rebound totals as a result and is worth scooping up off the waiver wire immediately.
News: Mavericks F Brandon Bass scored a career-high 19 points Saturday against the Nets. He shot 8-for-13 from the field and also added 7 rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Bass saw heavy minutes because Erick Dampier got into foul trouble very early in both the first and second half. He got almost exclusively all the minutes at center and seemed to match up well with Josh Boone. Don't get too excited about this one very solid game.
News: Mavs PF Brandon Bass chipped in with a strong performance off the bench Thursday against the Spurs with 16 points in 30 minutes. He also had six rebounds as he went 7 of 10 from the field. It was the first time in seven games he played more than 20 minutes and the first time in eight games he scored in double figures.
Analysis: Bass has had an up-and-down season with the Mavs. At times, he has looked like a bonafide NBAer. At other times, he has looked like a bench scrub. The Mavs are trying to work on his consistency, but Bass remains a very low-end Fantasy forward.
News: Mavericks F Brandon Bass shot just 2-for-9 from the field Thursday at Phoenix, finishing with 7 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.
Analysis: Bass continues to see around 20 minutes on most nights, although he had just 17 minutes on the floor Thursday.Continue to view him as a stopgap in Fantasy, best used as an injury replacement on a short-term basis in leagues of 12-plus teams.
News: Mavs F Brandon Bass had 12 points with 4 rebounds, an assist and a block in 25 minutes of play off the bench Friday against Memphis.
Analysis: Bass was one of seven players Dallas used off the bench Friday and he continues to see around 20-25 minutes despite his secondary role. Continue to view him as a stopgap in Fantasy, best used as an injury replacement on a short-term basis in leagues of 12-plus teams.
News: Even though the Mavericks scored a season-low 67 points Sunday at Detroit, reserve PF Brandon Bass had one of his best games in weeks. He scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds in 31 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Bass has scored in double figures in his last two games and three of his last five, averaging 8.8 points over that stretch. After a great start to the season, he struggled with an Achilles' injury, but he appears back on track now. Continue to think of him as a decent bench option in deeper Fantasy leagues.
News: Mavs PF Brandon Bass scored four points and grabbed three rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench Monday against the Grizzlies. He has 20 points and 12 rebounds in three games since missing one game because of a foot injury.
Analysis: Bass has battled an Achillies' injury for weeks and it really has cut into his game. His minutes are down, and so is his production. Continue to treat him as a low-end Fantasy forward who might occasionally score in double figures.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass, who missed a game to have a sore left Achilles' examined, returned to game action Friday against the Lakers. He played 19 minutes off the bench, scoring 10 points and pulling down five rebounds.
Analysis: Bass' Achilles' has bothered him for weeks now, which might explain his poor play since early December. An MRI came back negative, though, so he'll play for now. Continue to treat him as a low-end Fantasy forward who might occasionally score in double figures.
News: The Dallas Morning News reports that Brandon Bass (Achilles') will be a gametime decision for Friday's game against the Lakers. "We'll see how he feels and continues to progress this afternoon," coach Avery Johnson said, "but he seems to be doing better."
Analysis: Bass has been bothered by a foot injury for weeks now and just felt it was time to have it checked out. An MRI was negative on his Achillies', and Bass is listed as day-to-day. Perhaps the injury is a major reason why we have seen a decline in his game since early December. Bass will score in double figures on occassion, but is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy option when healthy.
News:The Dallas Morning News reports that Mavs PF Brandon Bas has been sent home to have his right foot re-examined and missed Wednesday's game against the Bobcats. "He's had some issues," coach Avery Johnson said. "He used to be just in pain. Now he's injured. We'll know more after he's re-evaluated." Johnson added that Juwan Howard will pick up Bass' minutes as the backup to Dirk Nowitzki and an occasional fill-in at center.
News:The Sports Xchange reports as part of the continual evaluation process, the Mavs coaching staff routinely eliminates things that aren't working. The same principle is applied to players. Brandon Bass, for example, may have had too much on his plate earlier this season. In his first year with the Mavericks, the 22-year-old power forward was also being force-fed minutes to speed along the assimilation process. Bass' personal playbook has lost some pounds lately. As a result, his game looks lean and mean again. "Sometimes elimination is the best way to help a player," coach Avery Johnson said. "He came here and we didn't really know him. We had never coached him before, so you've got 10 or 15 different deals on the table and then you start getting to a point, well, let's start eliminating some things."
Analysis: Bass personally feels more comfortable. He has a better understanding of what's expected and is not worrying about making mistakes. "I don't do that now," Bass said. "I'm slowly getting out of that. I was doing that and that's not good. You can't play like that. You've got to just play. Coach knows and I know that I'm not trying to make those mistakes. Things happen, so I just think the best thing is just play." Bass has now scored in double figures for two straight games after Monday's 11-point outing against the Kings. He hadn't scored in double figures in the previous four games and the last 11 games of November. Bass can be a decent low-end Fantasy forward at times, but not much else.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass had 14 points with five rebounds and a block Saturday at the Clippers. It was the first time he had double figures in any category since he had 12 points and 11 rebounds Jan. 2 against Golden State.
Analysis: Bass can be useful in small doses for Fantasy owners, but his role off the bench makes him an erratic option, to be used as a stopgap.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass had eight points for the second consecutive game Friday at Seattle. He brought down three rebounds and also added a block. He hasn't reached double figures in any category since he had 12 points and 11 rebounds Jan. 2 against Golden State.
Analysis: Bass can be useful in small doses for Fantasy owners, but his role off the bench makes him an erratic option, to be used as a stopgap.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass didn't see a single minute of action Saturday against the Hawks, watching the entire game from the bench. Since scoring a season-high 18 points on Dec. 5, he has averaged only 3.6 points in 11 games, failing to score in double figures even once.
Analysis: Bass had averaged 10.6 points per game up until the dry spell, scoring in double figures 13 times in 18 games. With the Mavericks not seeing the need to use him Saturday, we have a growing concern over him in Fantasy. Unless you play in a particularly deep league, consider dropping him for someone else.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass had two points and four rebounds in 19 minutes Thursday against the Cavaliers. Since scoring a season-high 18 points on Dec. 5, he has averaged only 3.6 points in 11 games, failing to score in double figures even once.
Analysis: Bass had averaged 10.6 points per game up until the dry spell, scoring in double figures 13 times in 18 games. Since he continues to play about the same number of minutes, we have a growing concern over him in Fantasy. Unless you play in a particularly deep league, consider dropping him for someone else.
News: Mavs F Brandon Bass had four points and nine rebounds in Friday's win over New Orleans. He played 25 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Bass continues to see around 20-25 minutes off the bench and has become a reliable source for cheap points and rebounds in larger leagues.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass scored just five points with two assists and two rebounds Thursday vs. Denver. He played 21 minutes off the bench and was 2-for-4 from the field.
Analysis: Bass has actually been a very pleasant surprise in Fantasy hoops this season, averaging 10.3 ppg and 4.6 rpg while playing off the bench. The third-year player is flourishing in his extended role off the bench and is worth owning as a No. 4 forward in larger leagues.
News: When the Mavericks signed PF Brandon Bass during the off-season, they wanted a physical presence who could throw his weight around inside but was also athletic enough to match up on the perimeter with smaller, quicker teams like Golden State and Phoenix. Bass flashed his potential in those areas in Thursday's win over the Warriors. His 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench were a major factor in the Mavericks first win at Oracle Arena in 22 months. "Animal is back," guard Jason Terry said. "We were calling him house pet for a minute because we hadn't seen him in three or four days. But any time he's out there he's a great asset to this team."
Analysis: Bass put in 32 high-energy minutes against Golden State and took a big step in gaining the confidence of his new teammates. "He's big, but he has the agility and ability to be a perimeter player," guard Jerry Stackhouse said. "And he's a guy who can sit down there and guard bigger players. He's going to be a big plus against the unconventional teams that try to follow the model of Phoenix, the teams that get up and down the court and run and gun." Bass is clearly proving his worth in the NBA this season, but he really doesn't have much value in Fantasy unless Dirk Nowitzki succumbs to injury.
News: Mavericks PF Brandon Bass (ankle) returned to action Thursday against the Warriors. He missed his first game Monday against the Rockets after landing awkwardly making a block in the fourth quarter in Saturday's win over Sacramento.
Analysis: Bass has proven one of the Mavericks' more trusted options off the bench in the early going, but he still doesn't see enough minutes to have value in traditional 12-team Fantasy leagues.
News: Mavericks F Brandon Bass (sprained left ankle) missed his first game as a Maverick on Monday, according to The Sports Xchange. Bass landed awkwardly making a block in the fourth quarter in Saturday's win over Sacramento, but when coach Avery Johnson summoned him off the bench later, Bass got up. "I came back in because Coach called my name," Bass said. "I wasn't going to sit down." Bass had trouble walking the next two days but reported progress. X-rays came back negative, and he had an MRI scheduled for Tuesday. He hopes to return Thursday at Golden State.
Analysis: Bass has proven one of the Mavericks' more trusted options off the bench in the early going, but he still doesn't see enough minutes to have value in traditional 12-team Fantasy leagues.
News: Mavs PF Brandon Bass scored 10 points with seven rebounds in Friday's loss at Atlanta. He also had two blocks and an assist in 27 minutes.
Analysis: Bass is not going to play that many minutes on a regular basis and as a result will be a very erratic Fantasy option this season. Don't get too excited, but keep an eye on him.
News: PF Brandon Bass scored 10 points and had nine rebounds in a rare start for the Mavericks on Saturday.
Analysis: Bass spent two seasons with the New Orleans Hornets, averaging 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game. He played in 50 career games after being selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. He could play a role off the bench this season, but don't pay him much attention in Fantasy play.
News: The Dallas Mavericks on Thursday signed free agent forward Brandon Bass. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Analysis: Bass spent two seasons with the New Orleans Hornets, averaging 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game. He played in 50 career games after being selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. Don't pay him much attention in Fantasy play.
News: Hornets forward Brandon Bass played for just the 16th time this season Tuesday night and the first time since Jan. 10. He had five points and three rebounds in five minutes.
Analysis: Bass has minimal Fantasy value. He doesn't get enough playing time to help your Fantasy team.
News: Hornets second-year forward Brandon Bass saw playing time Thursday for only the second time since Dec. 23. Bass went scoreless in nine minutes, missing all four of his field-goal attempts while adding two rebounds. His two missed alley-oop dunk attempts on the Hornets' final two possessions summed up what kind of night it was for the Hornets in a 24-point loss to the Pistons.
Analysis: Bass is not someone who should be owned in any Fantasy format at this time.
News: The Hornets are a much deeper team than they were a year ago. Former Sixth Man Award winner Bobby Jackson anchors the reserves, but the team has several reliable options to turn to. Rasual Butler, last year's team leader in 3-pointers, seems poised for a breakout year. Center Marc Jackson returns to provide toughness, veteran leadership and a high-post game. Versatile forward Linton Johnson has emerged as the team's all-purpose utility man, and Byron Scott is giving Jannero Pargo the freedom to run wild on offense.
Analysis: Jackson is worthy of a starting gig in leagues of 12 or more teams despite his role off the bench. Butler, Jackson, Johnson and Pargo are lesser options outside of deep Rotisserie formats, but can be helpful in individual categories when logging healthy minutes. Reserve center Marc Jackson spent the entire preseason recovering from a pulled right hamstring. Jackson is expected to be 100 percent for the start of the season and ready to regain his role as the team's backup center behind Tyson Chandler. Young bigs Brandon Bass, last year's second-round pick, and rookies Hilton Armstrong and Cedric Simmons aren't expected to have an impact early. But if any of them puts it together by February, the Hornets will have a nice group of reserves.
News: The New Orleans Hornets on Friday assigned rookie forward Brandon Bass to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBDL. Bass, the Hornets' second-round pick out of LSU, has played in only three games since the start of February and hasn't played more than 6 minutes in a game since Nov. 28. He is averaging 1.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 19 games this season. Hornets coach Byron Scott and general manager Jeff Bower said the move will allow Bass to gain needed game experience.
Analysis: The 6-foot-8 forward will play with the 66ers through April 5, a span of five games. He will remain on the Hornets' roster but on the inactive list. His value is limited to deep keeper leagues at this point.
News: Rookie Brandon Bass is averaging 2.3 ppg and 2.3 rpg through his first nine games.
Analysis: His value is limited to deep keeper leagues at this point.
