Pacers sign Monta Ellis to contract

(7/20/2015) After straightening out their cap space, the Pacers agreed to a contract with guard Monta Ellis on Monday, reports VigilantSports.com.

The NBA had temporarily forbid the Pacers from reaching a contract agreement with Ellis because the team didn't have the cap space. After some maneuvering, the two sides agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract.

(7/17/2015) The NBA has temporarily forbid the Pacers from reaching a contract agreement with guard Monta Ellis, reports Grantland.com.

Despite the stoppage, the Pacers are still expected to sign Ellis, but the team must reorder its transactions in order to fit him under the salary cap.

Once the cap has been cleared, Ellis is expected to sign a four-year, $44 million contract with an opt-out after three seasons.

(7/14/2015) The Pacers announced Tuesday they have officially reached an agreement with veteran shooting guard Monta Ellis, per a team release. Reports say the contract is worth $44 million, with an opt-out after the third season.

Ellis is a volume shooter who averaged 18.9 points last season for the Mavericks and has tallied a career mark of 19.3 points in 10 NBA seasons. 

"He'll be a great addition to our team," Pacers president Larry Bird said. "And he fits our needs for how we want to play. We're excited to have him. He adds another veteran in our lineup and we think he'll be a great fit, complementing George Hill in the back court."

(7/2/2015) Free-agent guard Monta Ellis has agreed to a four-year deal with the Pacers, per ESPN's Chris Broussard. Reports say the contract is worth $44 million, with an opt-out after the third season. 

Ellis, who averaged 18.9 points last season with the Mavericks, was coveted by several teams, including the Kings, but after meeting with the Pacers on Wednesday, decided to sign. 

In 10 NBA seasons with the Warriors, Bucks and Mavericks, Ellis has averaged 19.3 points and 4.8 assists.

(7/1/2015) Veteran free agent guard Monta Ellis is set to meet with the Pacers, the Indianapolis Star has reported. He arrived in town Wednesday afternoon.

The 29-year-old Ellis maintained his consistent production last season, averaging 18.9 points a game. It was his eighth straight season of averaging at least that. He also shot 44.5 percent from the floor, though his percentage from beyond the arc dipped to a disturbing 28.5 percent.

(6/24/2015) Mavericks veteran guard Monta Ellis is on the verge of opting out of the final year of his contract and will become a free agent this summer, a source has told ESPN.

Dallas is not expected to pursue Ellis, but the Pacers and Heat are believed to be interested.

The 29-year-old Ellis maintained his consistency and productivity last season. He averaged 18.9 points a game and shot 44.5 percent from the field. But he also nailed only 28.5 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. That marks his worst long-distance accuracy in seven years.

(4/27/2015) Mavericks shooting guard Monta Ellis scored 31 points on 13 of 21 shooting from the field, including 2 of 6 from 3-point range, in Dallas' 121-109 win over the Rockies Sunday.

It was Ellis' second consecutive playoff game with at least 30 points and is averaging 26.3 points per game in the series. Ellis also pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists in the contest. 

He and the Mavericks will look to stay alive in Game 5 from Houston Tuesday.


G Rajon Rondo lone regular starter to play for Mavericks on Monday

(4/13/2015) Mavericks guard Rajon Rondo is the lone regular starter who will play Monday for the Mavericks in Utah, the team has announced.

Center Tyson Chandler, forwards Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons and guard Monta Ellis will not play.

Chandler was already listed as doubtful with a knee injury. 

The Mavericks are 8-point favorites against the Jazz.

(4/13/2015) The Mavericks confirmed early resorts that they would rest forward Dirk Nowitzki, guard Monta Ellis and center Tyson Chandler for Monday's game against the Jazz. In addition, forward Chandler Parsons will miss his fifth straight contest with a knee injury. 

With all the moves, the Mavericks are 10.5 point underdogs against Utah.

Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis are reportedly flying back to Dallas with owner Mark Cuban Sunday instead of making the trip to Utah for Monday's game against the Jazz. Chandler scored 20 points on 9 of 10 shooting Sunday in 27 minutes.

(4/1/2015) Mavericks shooting guard Monta Ellis scored a team-high 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting in his team's 135-131 win over the Thunder Wednesday.

Ellis was one of four Dallas players to rack up at least 18 points in the shootout, and he played 37 minutes after missing one game due to a calf injury. The guard also kicked in five assists, four rebounds and four steals in the win, just the Mavericks' second in the team's last six games.

Dallas will square off with Houston Thursday.

"He was kicked or kneed in the right calf," coach Rick Carlisle said after the game. "It's very sore but we don't know the extent of it. We'll see how he feels in the morning and go from there."

Ellis scored 10 points on 5 of 10 shooting from the field and pulled down two rebounds in Dallas' 94-76 blowout loss to the Spurs.

(3/25/2015) Mavericks guard Monta Ellis has been dealing with a variety of injuries for most of the season, but he said after Tuesday's contest that he's starting to feel healthy, reports ESPNDallas.com.

"I've been battling injuries all season," Ellis said. "The last few days, my body has been feeling good and [Tuesday] I'll sleep real good. I went and worked out [Monday] night for at least two and a half hours. I wanted to come in [Tuesday] and give my team a lift that they have been looking for."

Ellis had one of his best games of the season Tuesday when he scored 38 points on 16-of-27 shooting to help defeat the Spurs.

"Now that my body is feeling good, we'll try to make a run of it until the playoffs start," Ellis said.

(3/23/2015) Mavericks guard Monta Ellis had a rough night Sunday in his team's loss to the Suns, going 4-for-22 from the floor, continuing a recent downward shooting trend, per The Dallas Morning News

Ellis was 0-for-8 from the floor in the fourth quarter and since the All-Star break, he is shooting just 38.7 percent. But the Mavericks will continue to feed him the ball. 

"We got to get shots," coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's the one guy who can get clean shots. He's getting good looks and I always believe he's going to make the next one."

(2/25/2015) Mavericks shooting guard Monta Ellis scored a team-high 19 points on 9 of 14 shooting in his team's 104-87 loss to the Hawks Wednesday.

The Mavericks had just two-fifths of the team's regular starting lineup, with Rajon Rondo (suspension), Tyson Chandler (hip) and Chandler Parsons (ankle) sidelined, and with Dirk Nowitzki scoring just four points, the Mavericks couldn't generate enough offense to hang with the Hawks despite ending the first quarter up 34-22.

Despite the struggling offense, Ellis was able to deliver his most efficient shooting performance since going 15 for 23 against the Spurs in late December. He also chipped in two rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes in the loss. The Mavericks will square off with the Nets Saturday.
