Mavericks SG Monta Ellis scores team-high 19 vs. Hawks

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/25/2015) Mavericks shooting guard Monta Ellis scored a team-high 19 points on 9 of 14 shooting in his team's 104-87 loss to the Hawks Wednesday.

The Mavericks had just two-fifths of the team's regular starting lineup, with Rajon Rondo (suspension), Tyson Chandler (hip) and Chandler Parsons (ankle) sidelined, and with Dirk Nowitzki scoring just four points, the Mavericks couldn't generate enough offense to hang with the Hawks despite ending the first quarter up 34-22.

Despite the struggling offense, Ellis was able to deliver his most efficient shooting performance since going 15 for 23 against the Spurs in late December. He also chipped in two rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes in the loss. The Mavericks will square off with the Nets Saturday.

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(2/11/2015) Mavericks guard Monta Ellis will play and start in Wednesday's game against the Jazz, reports the team's official website.

Ellis is dealing with a hip injury, which was threatening to keep him out of his first game this season.

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(2/11/2015) Mavericks guard Monta Ellis has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable for Wednesday's game against the Jazz, reports the team's official website.

Ellis is suffering from a hip injury, which occurred during Monday's loss to the Clippers. Guard Devin Harris would likely see his minutes increase if Ellis out.

The Mavericks are 4-point favorites.

Mavericks' Carlisle optimistic injured players will return after break

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/10/2015) Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle sounded optimistic that injured starters Tyson Chandler, Monta Ellis and Rajon Rondo would be able to return to action after the All-Star break, the Associated Press reports.

Carlisle indicated that Chandler's ankle sprain wasn't considered serious and that Rondo is improving in his return from orbital and nasal fractures, though the team has yet to rule out surgery for the injured point guard. The Mavericks are awaiting the results of an MRI taken on Ellis's injured hip.

"We've got to get our best players back on the court, but we have to do it in an expeditious but prudent fashion," Carlisle said.

The Mavericks entered Tuesday in fifth place in the Western Conference. Just 2 1/2 games separate the third-place and seventh-place teams in the conference playoff race. The Mavericks are 3 1/2-point favorites at home against the Jazz Wednesday.

Monta Ellis, Tyson Chandler expected to miss final game before the break

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2/10/2015) Although the Mavericks did not provide many details on the injuries that knocked Monta Ellis (hip) and Tyson Chandler (ankle) out of Monday's loss to the Clippers, both are likely to sit out Wednesday's game against the Jazz, according to ESPN.

"Hopefully it's not going to be bad," star forward Dirk Nowitzki said following the game. "It's nothing we can really control now. We don't really expect either to play on Wednesday and we've got to be better. We've got to be better with what we've got."

Chandler landed awkwardly on his left ankle after being fouled by Spencer Hawes 39 seconds into the game. He never returned. Ellis exited with 8:03 remaining in the opening period with what coach Rock Carlisle indicated was "some kind of strain." He's due for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.

Wednesday's game against Utah will be Dallas' final game before the All-Star game, giving Ellis and Chandler plenty of recovery time for the final stretch of the season.

''We moved the ball well. We did a good job of sharing the ball, moving it and hitting open shots when we needed to.''

While Ellis said he plans on playing Wednesday against New Orleans, Carlisle wasn't so sure. "I got to talk to my trainer and Monta about it," the coach said. "I can't give you an answer now."
