Raptors forward Amir Johnson expected to play Sunday

(11/9/2014) After practicing Saturday, Raptors coach Dwane Casey indicated forward Amir Johnson will be ready to play Sunday against the 76ers.  

Johnson had missed three games while dealing with ankle injury, and he left Friday’s game against Washington after playing 21 minutes.

In three games, Johnson is averaging 12.0 points and 7.3 rebounds.

(11/8/2014) Raptors small forward Amir Johnson practiced Saturday after sitting out Friday's game with a sore ankle, TSN.ca reports.

Coach Dwayne Casey indicated that Johnson could have played through the issue Friday if the team needed, and while the forward is questionable for Sunday's game, it seems like he has a good chance of suiting up. He has averaged 12 points on 54.8 percent shooting in three games.

Johnson was a game-time decision due to an ankle injury, but decided to try and play through it. He wasn't moving as well throughout the game, and it's possible he reinjured himself. The team has yet to give an update on his official status.

Both players were considered game-time decisions coming into the contest, but will dress and are expected to play. Johnson is dealing with an ankle injury. Valanciunas is dealing with a hand issue. 

Center Lucas Nogueira will also dress for the contest. He's dealing with a groin injury.

As expected, Patrick Patterson will fill in and make the start in his place. Johnson has missed the last two games after sustaining the injury Saturday against Orlando.

According to TSN.ca, Johnson will be held out Wednesday in Boston as well as an "early season precaution, per coach Dwayne Casey. His next chance to return will come Friday at home against Washington.

(11/2/2014) Raptors power forward Amir Johnson was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Heat because of a sore left ankle, per the team's official website. Johnson sustained the injury Saturday night against the Magic but played through the pain. After receiving pre-game treatment, the team ruled him out for the game.

Johnson has averaged 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks through two games. His next chance to return will come Tuesday against Oklahoma City.

(10/29/2014) Raptors power forward Amir Johnson scored 16 points on 7 of 15 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking four shots in 31 minutes in his team's 109-102 win over the Hawks in Wednesday's regular-season opener.

Johnson delivered 13 double-doubles in 77 games last season and wasted no time getting on the board in the new campaign. He also chipped in two assists on a night where seven different Raptors scored in double digits. The Raptors will square off with the Magic Saturday.

(4/12/2014) Raptors forward Amir Johnson was eased back into action Friday against the Knicks, in his return from a three-game absence due to an ankle injury.

Johnson was in the starting lineup for the game, but played just 17 minutes and failed to make much of an impact. He was scoreless on one field-goal attempt, while adding three rebounds, two assists and a block in the 108-100 loss.

With the Raptors locked into the playoffs, it makes sense the team would be overly cautious with Johnson in his first game back. He has appeared in 74 games this season, averaging a career-high 10.7 points, and adding 6.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists along the way.

(4/10/2014) Raptors forward Amir Johnson went through a light portion of practice Thursday, as he continues to work his way back from a sore right ankle, the National Post reports.

Johnson has missed three straight games due to the ailment and appears to be ready to return Friday against New York, according to the Toronto Sun.

"He's pretty close. He's still not 100 percent. But he's pretty close. If he had to go tonight, he probably could go. We're trying to make sure...he's ready for the next couple of weeks," head coach Dwane Casey said.

(4/5/2014) With a playoff spot pretty much locked up, the Raptors aren't taking any chances with any injured starters. Amir Johnson will sit out his second game in a row Saturday against the Bucks, as he continues to deal with an ankle injury suffered Wednesday.

Coach Dwane Casey told the team's play-by-play announcer prior to the game that Johnson's absence is more of a precaution with just five games left on the schedule. The Raptors don't play again until Wednesday against the 76ers.

Lowry left Monday's game against Miami with a sore left knee and has now missed two straight games due to the ailment. He has enjoyed a breakout season, averaging 17.4 points, 7.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game on the season.

Johnson continued playing and finished with six points on 3 of 7 shooting. He also chipped in with eight rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block in 30 minutes. He is averaging 15.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists over his last five games.

(3/13/2014) Raptors forward Amir Johnson scored in double figures for the third game in a row Wednesday, a 101-87 win over the Pistons. 

Johnson didn't quite lead the team in scoring, but he put up a solid performance with 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting. He also snagged nine rebounds -- five offensive -- and added one assist, two steals and a block, while turning the ball over just once in 33 minutes in a 101-87 win.

Johnson is starting to turn it up recently, averaging 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 blocks per game over the last five.

(2/25/2014) Raptors forward Amir Johnson was able to play through an ankle injury Tuesday, as he logged 36 minutes in a 99-93 win over the Cavaliers.

Johnson got the start and played well, scoring nine points on 4 of 6 shooting. He also filled up the box score well, adding six rebounds, four assists and two blocks, making up for four turnovers.

Johnson has been playing a bit of a reduced role recently, averaging just 27.2 minutes per game over the last five. He is averaging 9.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in that span.
