by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1/2/2014) Magic forward Jason Maxiell scored just six points despite playing 43 minutes in an 87-81 loss to the Cavaliers Thursday.

Maxiell shot just 1 of 6 from the field, and adding most of his points by going 4 of 6 at the free-throw line. He added just six rebounds as well, though he filled up the box score well with two assists, two steals and three blocks.

Maxiell has seen his role increase in recent games due to an injury to Nikola Vucevic, but this is a very recent development. Maxiell averaged just 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in the month of December, while appearing in just 10 of 15 games in the month.

Maxiell has appeared in 15 of the team's first 19 games, starting 11 of those. He is averaging just 4.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for the season.

I’m going to show them the first time and help them out the second time," Maxiell told the Orlando Sentinel Tuesday. "And, by the third time, they should have it down pat, and then they’ll be on their own.” Maxiell spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Pistons.
