News: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Hawks center Johan Petro will not play Wednesday night at the 76ers. Petro remains in Florida with his expectant wife.
Analysis: Even when healthy and active, Petro has minimal Fantasy value. Ignore him in all leagues when he does return.
News: Hawks center Johan Petro saw his first game action since Jan. 23 on Tuesday night against the Pacers. After missing time due to a back injury, he scored a season-high 10 points in the 114-103 loss. He was an efficient 4 of 6 from the floor and made both of his free throws. Petro also posted two rebounds while playing 15 minutes off the bench.
Analysis: Petro entered Tuesday having scored just 21 points in 11 games this season and has never been much of a Fantasy option. Continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: Hawks center Johan Petro is a game-time decision Tuesday for the game at Indiana due to a back injury, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Petro has missed the last four games for Atlanta but the injury occurred on Monday.
Analysis: Petro is averaging just 6.4 minutes per game this season and has only played in 11 games for the Hawks. Even when healthy, he barely sees minutes. He has low-end Fantasy value in all leagues and formats.
News: After missing the first six games of the season due to a back issue, Hawks center Johan Petro made his debut Wednesday night against the Warriors. He played five scoreless minutes off the bench and finished with zero stats in the 92-88 loss.
Analysis: Petro has averaged just 4.7 points with 3.9 rebounds thus far in his career and poses minimal Fantasy value going forward. Continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: Hawks center Johan Petro was ruled inactive for Monday's game in Portland. Petro continues to deal with a back issue.
Analysis: Petro has been dealing with a bad back all season long and has yet to make his season debut. Larry Drew told reporters earlier in the week that he'll remain inactive until he can log enough practice time to feel comfortable in games, so we'll continue to monitor his status moving forward. Petro has marginal Fantasy value, even when healthy.
News: Hawks center Johan Petro was ruled inactive for Sunday's game against the Clippers as he continues to deal with a back injury.
News: Hawks center Johan Petro was ruled inactive for Friday's contest against the Heat as he continues to deal with a back injury. Petro has yet to appear in a game this season.
Analysis: Petro continues to be slowed by a back injury but he isn't expected to be a major part of coach Larry Drew's rotation anyway. Even when healthy, owners should ignore the 26-year-old in all formats.
News: Hawks center Johan Petro was ruled inactive for Wednesday's contest against the Pacers as he continues to deal with a back injury. Head coach Larry Drew told reporters before the game that he will remain inactive until he can log enough practice time to feel comfortable in games.
Analysis: Petro has yet to play this season because of the injury and could be out for a few more games until he is worked back into game shape. Petro has marginal Fantasy value, even when healthy.
News: Atlanta center Johan Petro is dealing with a back injury and will not play Sunday against the Thunder. Petro could not travel to Oklahoma City.
Analysis: Petro did not get any minutes in the season opener against Houston and the back issue could be the reason. He has limited Fantasy value regardless, when healthy.
News: According to multiple sources, the Hawks have agreed to trade Joe Johnson to the Nets in exchange for Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Jordan Williams and Johan Petro. The teams will also complete a sign-and-trade of DeShawn Stevenson, sending him to Atlanta along with the Brooklyn's 2013 lottery-protected pick via Houston.
Analysis: This will be the fifth team Petro will play for, although that is if the Hawks don't buy his contract out first. Fantasy owners will have to keep an eye on what Atlanta plans to do moving forward. However, no matter where Petro ends up playing next season, he won't be worth drafting in the majority of formats on Draft Day.
News: New Jersey center Johan Petro hit the first 3-pointer of his career on Tuesday night against the Heat. Playing in a blowout loss, Petro saw 29 minutes and went 4 of 9 from the field to score 11 points. He grabbed eight rebounds and had two steals in the performance for the Nets.
Analysis: The 7-footer averages under 15 minutes per game for the Nets on the season. New Jersey was getting blown out and that is why he was afforded a 3-pointer. He doesn't usually take them. Petro has low-end Fantasy value.
News: New Jersey center Johan Petro scored 16 points on Friday night against Detroit. "I didn't pay any attention to the score," Petro said. "I just tried to work hard on both ends of the floor and get something positive out of a bad night for the team." He shot 6 for 10 from the field and nailed all four of his foul shots. Petro added an assist and five rebounds in his 20 minutes of action. The Nets would still lose the game to the Pistons, 109-92.
Analysis: Petro got extended playing time as the Nets are depleted on the frontcourt with Brook Lopez and Mehmet Okur both sidelined. This was his best game of the season and third time he's scored in double digits for the Nets. Despite his nice outing, Fantasy owners should leave Petro on waivers as he's just not a player that will impact a game that often.
News: The illness that kept Nets C Johan Petro out of Wednesdays game against the Pistons was unable to sideline him on Friday, as he played seven minutes against the Timberwolves. His impact was not felt in the game, however, as he failed to score while attempting a single field-goal attempt and grabbing one rebound and one assist in a 108-105 loss.
Analysis: Petro has received sporadic starts this season, however he has not been much of a part of the teams offensive game plan, scoring just 4.3 points per game. He is receiving right around 15 minutes per game when healthy, but remains a marginal Fantasy contributor at best.
News: New Jersey C Johan Petro is available for Friday's game against Minnesota after dealing with a stomach virus earlier this week, according to the team. Petro missed Wednesday's contest against Detroit with the illness, but now appears to be over the issue.
Analysis: Petro is averaging 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds over his past three games and is shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor over that span. He has also received roughly 20 minutes a game recently, but remains a marginal Fantasy contributor when healthy.
News: Nets C Johan Petro has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Pistons due to an illness.
Analysis: Petro is averaging five points with four rebounds in his last five games and is shooting nearly 53 percent from the floor over that span. He has been seeing about 20 minutes per contest of late but is still a low-end producer. When healthy, Petro should only be active in the deepest of Fantasy formats.
News: New Jersey center Johan Petro has been getting some run for the Nets as they are banged up on the frontcourt. He scored six points and grabbed four rebounds in Tuesday's 106-99 loss to Indiana. Petro shot 3 for 6 from the field and dished out one assist. He would have had a second assist if Kris Humphries wasn't called for traveling after a nice pass from the big man.
Analysis: Petro isn't doing a lot with his playing time, just five points and four boards over his last four outings. He is getting around 17 minutes per game while Memhet Okur and Brook Lopez are sidelined, but once they are healthy look for Petro's minutes to decrease. At this time Petro is not worth owning in any Fantasy format.
News: Nets C Johan Petro has been steadily doing what he does so far this season, but he had his second breakout on Monday in a 101-91 loss to the Clippers. For Petro, however, a breakout constitutes a five-of-seven shooting night en route to 10 points, a rebound, a steal, and an assist in 16 minutes, so it wasnt the sort of night that really stands out.
Analysis: Petro is the Nets backup center, and its a role he is best suited for. He isnt an especially skilled scorer or rebounder, and he doesnt put up elite block numbers to make up for it. Even if he were to grab a starting role, he would not be a recommended Fantasy starting option, so continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: New Jersey C Johan Petro came off the bench for 19 minutes on Monday against Indiana. Petro blocked four shots in the game as he added six points and four boards. He also dished out two assists in the loss to the Pacers.
Analysis: Petro only had one block in his previous four games and is not a consistent weapon in the Nets' arsenal. He's not a major part of the rotation, but could be a cheap source of boards and blocks should he starting getting consistently around 15-20 minutes per game.
News: Nets C Johan Petro got the start in Monday's season opener against the Wizards and had a productive performance. He scored 11 points and hauled in five rebounds in the 90-84 win. He went 5 of 8 from the field and made 1 of 2 free throws while playing 29 minutes. Petro also chipped in with a blocked shot in the victory.
Analysis: Petro got the start on Monday with Brook Lopez (foot) injured and while Mehmet Okur gets used to his surroundings in New Jersey. He likely will continue to until Okur is ready so keep an eye on the situation going forward. Aside from Kris Humphries, the Nets don't really have anyone else to rebound so he should help owners in that category for the short term. But given his long-term value, continue to view Petro as more of a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Though he was active Wednesday after missing five straight games with an illness, Nets backup center Johan Petro didn't see floor time until Friday's game against the Clippers. Petro saw nine minutes of playing time on the night, just under his season average. He failed to score, though he took just one shot, but he pulled down a rebound on the defensive end of the floor.
Analysis: Petro doesn't get a whole lot of run for the Nets with their frontcourt pretty much set and starter Brook Lopez playing big minutes. The Frenchman stands seven feet tall, and can get some things done down low. However, his time has not come, though he finally got back on the floor in the win. Petro doesn't see enough playing time to make a Fantasy impact, so he should be ignored in all formats.
News: Although active coming off of an illness, Nets backup center Johan Petro did not play in Wednesday's game against the Warriors. It was his first missed game with the issue.
Analysis: Petro hasn't had much of an opportunity to contribute for the Nets this season, averaging less than 11 minutes per game. The 7-footer might have a bit more of an opportunity now that rookie Derrick Favors has been traded, but it still won't be enough to warrant Fantasy value. Either way, Petro will have to get healthy first. Fantasy owners should continue to ignore him in all formats.
News: Backup center Johan Petro continues to have minimal impact for the new-look New Jersey Nets. He saw seven minutes of action on Saturday night against the Rockets and missed all six of his shots from the field. He did grab six boards in his play late in the game, when the outcome was all but decided. New Jersey would fall to Houston, 123-108.
Analysis: Petro has been getting around 10 minutes a game over his last 10 outings. During that span he's averaging just 3.2 points and 1.8 boards. That stat line should indicate to all Fantasy owners that Petro is not worth owning at this stage of the season.
News: New Jersey center Johan Petro played eight minutes on Thursday against Washington as starting center Brook Lopez dealt with foul trouble late in the game. Petro shot 1 for 4 from the field finishing with two points and three rebounds. He also added a steal and a block for the Nets.
Analysis: Petro is averaging just 2.3 points and 3.5 boards over his last six games. While he does find the ball off the glass, Petro's limited minutes doesn't give him much Fantasy value. If any more trades happen in New Jersey, his value could change. But owners shouldn't have him on their radar anyway. Leave him on waivers.
News: Nets C Johan Petro played 17 minutes off the bench in Thursday's preseason game against the Celtics. He scored just two points, but did bring down five rebounds. Petro has scored a combined four points in his last two preseason games.
Analysis: Petro did have 10 points in the preseason opener against Maccabi Haifa of Israel, but he is more or less showing you how little production he offers. He is too far down the depth chart to contribute numbers on a consistent basis and is not worth owning in Fantasy.
News: The New Jersey Nets have reached a contract agreement with center Johan Petro. The Nets did not announce the terms of the deal Saturday, but an NBA official with knowledge of the agreement tells The Associated Press the contract is for $10 million over three years. The official requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak for the team. The agreement is contingent on Petro passing a physical. Petro is a second free agent to agree to a contract with the Nets. Small forward Travis Outlaw got a five-year, $35 million contract Thursday. "We are very pleased to add Johan to our roster," said Nets president Rod Thorn. "He is a young player with a defensive presence who should fit well into our frontcourt rotation."
Analysis: Petro will be a backup for Brook Lopez. Petro averaged 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in five seasons with Seattle-Oklahoma City and Denver. A native of Paris, Petro averaged 3.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 12.1 minutes for the Nuggets last season. As a backup center, he has minimal Fantasy value and likely can be undrafted heading into the 2010-11 Fantasy season.
News: Nuggets C Johan Petro started at center against the Mavericks Monday night, but he played only four minutes. He was held scoreless and has scored only eight points in his last four games.
Analysis: Petro is getting minimal playing time and is usually just a place-holder with the first unit. He is not a viable Fantasy option even in the deepest of leagues.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that Denver C Johan Petro has filled in admirably in the absence of Kenyon Martin, who went down with a knee injury. Petro is averaging 6.9 rebounds in eight games as a starter. "It's just opportunity," said Petro, who had played sparingly until being put in the lineup. "The year did not start out the way I wanted it to. I'm just trying to get focused on what I know I can do, and that's rebounding." Petro agrees that some forget he once had been a solid NBA contributor. He averaged a respectable 6.0 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18.2 minutes with Seattle in 2007-08. "I'm trying to help the team whatever way I can," said Petro, who is not being counted on for scoring. He is averaging just 5.5 points in his starts. "If rebounding can help, that's what I'm going to do."
Analysis: Although Petro has stepped up nicely in Martin's absence, his numbers wont help out your Fantasy team. He can be a cheap source of rebounds in the deepest of leagues, but his scoring leaves much to be desired. He can remain reserved in all but the deepest of leagues at this time.
News: According to the Denver Post, Nuggets F Kenyon Martin (knee) could be sidelined for a couple of weeks after undergoing his first session of platelet rich plasma therapy Monday. Johan Petro will continue to start in his place with Chris Andersen getting a Fantasy boost.
Analysis: Martin said he isn't sure when his next PRP therapy session will be and said "we'll see how it works," in reference to the first session Monday. His status remains up in the air and there is no concrete timetable for a return, but it is now clear he won't be back until at least early April. His Fantasy season remains in doubt after what was a resurgent and healthy first half for him. Petro and Andersen will see a boost in minuets, but it is Andersen who possesses more Fantasy appeal despite coming off the bench.
News:Johan Petro had a game-high 10 rebounds in his first start of the season for the Nuggets. Petro got the start with Kenyon Martin sidelined.
Analysis: Martin will be out for an indefinite amount of time. Petro could be a sleeper in some category-based leagues and in deeper leagues if you need a fill in at center, but he is not a recommended option in most scenarios unless he can start helping in other categories.
News: Nuggets C Johan Petro played four minutes off the bench Thursday against San Antonio. He was held scoreless. He had scored 13 points with five rebounds in his previous game.
Analysis: Petro saw 22 minutes of playing time in that game and shot a fluky 5 for 5 from the field. Don't expect many more performances like that from him down the line. In his current position off the team's bench he will not offer much to Fantasy owners.
News: Reserve center Johan Petro has resigned with the Denver Nuggets. Petro has career averages of 5.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in 270 games with the Nuggets and Oklahoma City/Seattle franchise.
Analysis: Petro appeared in 27 games for Denver last season, starting 10 times and averaging 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds. He also appeared in 10 playoff of the Nuggets' playoff games as they reached the Western Conference finals. He is not expected to have much Fantasy value.
News: According to The Sports Xchange, Denver C Johan Petro at least scored Sunday at Sacramento as a starter. In seven minutes, Petro had two points. Still, Petro didn't do enough to start in the second half. In his three previous games as a starter, Petro had gone scoreless in a combined 34 minutes. Petro hardly has showed he could be a factor for the Nuggets in the playoffs.
Analysis: Petro could see some more starts with Martin out for an indefinite amount of time, but that should not mean much to Fantasy owners. He isn't in line for a lot of playing time and is more of a placeholder in the starting lineup.
News: Nuggets C Johan Petro was in the starting lineup on Saturday in Utah with Kenyon Martin out due to injury. Petro managed no points and three rebounds in 11 minutes.
Analysis: Petro could see some more starts with Martin out for an indefinite amount of time, but that should not mean much to Fantasy owners. He isn't in line for a lot of playing time and is more of a placeholder in the starting lineup.
News:Johan Petro made his first start for Denver and grabbed five quick rebounds in 8 1/2 minutes Monday against the Celtics. Then Petro sat on the sideline as the Nuggets, coming off a three-week, eight-game trip around the All-Star break, quickly fell behind by double digits, their fatigue and frazzled nerves exposed by the hot-shooting Celtics. Petro finished with nine points and 10 boards.
Analysis: Petro hasn't really received a lot of playing time since being acquired in a January trade from the Thunder, but it finally seems the Nuggets are committed to getting the young center some PT. Petro is a developing player and a wait-and-see Fantasy project.
News: The Nuggets traded Chucky Atkins and a 2009 first round pick to obtain C Johan Petro and a 2009 second-round draft pick from the Thunder. Petro averaged 15 minutes a game for the Thunder with 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game average.
Analysis: Petro's move to Denver probably won't do all that much for his stock as he is well behind Nene and even Cheikh Samb on the dpeth chart. Continue ignoring him and leave him on waivers.
News: Thunder C Johan Petro scored 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting against the Magic on Friday. He played 20 minutes and was the top bench performer for the Thunder.
Analysis: As long as Chris Wilcox is healthy, Petro's fantasy value is marginal at best. Leave him on waivers unless he moves up the depth chart. He averages about five points per game so this 15-point performance is clearly a fluke.
News:The Sports Xchange notes that C Johan Petro parlayed a solid preseason into a starting assignment opening night Wednesday against Milwaukee. That was about his only highlight. The Frenchman played just 17 minutes, scored two points and grabbed just three rebounds.
Analysis: The Thunder have some options on the block, with players like Nick Collison, Chris Wilcox and Robert Swift to mix in. Until Petro starts putting up consistently productive numbers, his starting status means very little.
News: Reports out of Oklahoma City are that head coach P.J. Carlesimo has not decided on a starting lineup for the season opener yet. However, injuries could decide it for him. Power forward Chris Wilcox is dealing with a hamstring injury and is not quite 100 percent yet. Nick Collison is dealing with a hyperextended knee, Earl Watson is dealing with a strained calf and Joe Smith is getting used to playing with a mask after suffering a fractured nose. Ideally, the Thunder would look to start Watson and Kevin Durant in the back court with Jeff Green and Wilcox at forward and Collison at center.
Analysis: The injured players are considered game-time decisions as of Sunday, making them risky starts in Fantasy for Week 1. Durant is a must-start in all formats and Jeff Green has some measure of appeal in larger leagues, though, he's still a wait-and-see player for now. Smith is not a recommended Fantasy option at the moment. Off the bench, Russell Westbrook is far too green to trust yet in Fantasy and Desmond Mason would only be worth activating if an injury forces him into more minutes. Low-end options like Johan Petro, Damien Wilkins and Robert Swift are not recommended.
News: For the second consecutive year, Sonics C Johan Petro averaged six points per game during the 2007-08 regular season. He saw his rebounding increase from 4.1 per game to 5.2 and averaged 18 minutes per game, as he had in each of his first three NBA seasons.
Analysis: Petro started 28 games, but still found it hard to play more than 20 minutes per game. Fantasy owners should monitor him in the offseason and the preseason as he'll have a chance to start at center at the beginning of the season for Seattle. His upside isn't very high at this point, but he'll be worth taking a flier on as a third or fourth Fantasy center.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro had 10 points for a second consecutive game Wednesday against Washington. He added five rebounds and a steal in 18 minutes.
Analysis: Petro continues to start at center for the Sonics and figures to remain in that role for the final games of the regular season. As such, he warrants consideration in larger leagues as a No. 2 center.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro was held under 10 points for the first time in four games Friday at the Lakers. He shot just 3-for-10 from the field, but managed 11 rebounds.
Analysis: Petro has double-double potential, but is far from being consistent enough to trust as anything more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy center at the moment. He continues to start, which is obviously going to provide him with a chance to produce.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro had 12 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday at Boston. He shot 6-for-15 from the floor and also added a block.
Analysis: Petro has double-double potential, but is far from being consistent enough to trust as anything more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy center at the moment. He continues to start, which is obviously going to provide him with a chance for more nights like this down the stretch.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro started once again Sunday at Toronto, but he played just 18 minutes and finished with 4 points with 6 rebounds.
Analysis: Petro saw Nick Collison get the majority of the minutes at center on Sunday, but he's been seeing very solid playing time since the team traded away Kurt Thomas. He's a solid rebounder and is about as good as you are going to get off the waiver wire in Fantasy for a center at this stage.
News:Johan Petro had a season-high 15 rebounds for Seattle in a loss at Milwaukee Wednesday night. He also scored 11 points in 31 minutes of action.
Analysis: Petro now has back-to-back games with 10-plus rebounds and he missed back-to-back double-doubles by just 2 points. He continues to start for the Sonics at the center spot and is seeing a good amount of minutes. He's clearly a solid rebounder and is about as good as you are going to get off the waiver wire in Fantasy for a center at this stage.
News: Seattle center Johan Petro went for eight points and 10 rebounds Tuesday at Detroit.
Analysis: Petro has played well recently, but he's still nothing more than a low-end Fantasy option at this time.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro had 6 points with a rebound, a block and a steal in Sunday's win over Minnesota. He shot 3-for-5 from the field.
Analysis: Petro has come back down to earth after a solid beginning to his promotion as a starter. He appears to be the choice to continue starting at the five over Nick Collison and is still a player worth taking a flier on in Fantasy, but he should remain reserved for now.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro 15 points with 8 rebounds in Wednesday's loss against Denver. He shot 7-for-13 from the field and also added 2 steals and a block.
Analysis: Petro has had at least 8 rebounds in three straight games and has been the only starter at center for the Sonics since the team traded away Kurt Thomas. He's worth an add as a No. 2 Fantasy center while the 22-year-old 7-footer continues to see solid playing time.
News: SuperSonics C Johan Petro had 10 rebounds and 7 points in Sunday's loss to the Lakers while starting once again at center. He shot just 3-for-13 from the field, though.
Analysis: Petro continues to start for the Sonics now with the departure of Kurt Thomas via trade. That doesn't mean he's the player who benefits most, however. Nick Collison will see most of the minutes at the five, but there appears to be enough to go around for Petro to become a low-end No. 2 Fantasy center.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro started for the Sonics Thursday, scoring 8 points with 5 rebounds in 23 minutes against Portland.
Analysis: Petro shot 3-for-7 from the field and may continue to start for the Sonics now with the departure of Kurt Thomas via trade. That doesn't mean he's the player who benefits most, however. Nick Collison will see most of the minutes at the five.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro scored six points on 3 of 9 shooting Thursday against the Cavs. Petro, who also had three rebounds, has now scored at least four points in six straight games, but less than 10 in each of those contests.
Analysis: Petro really didn't have a consistent spot in Seattle's rotation until late December. He has now played in the last 18 games and continues to improve with each contest. Still, he doesn't do enough to warrant use in Fantasy leagues at this time.
News: A game after scoring a career-high 22 points, Sonics C Johan Petro scored just two points with two assists and a rebound while playing just nine minutes off the bench Friday vs. Dallas.
Analysis: Petro is not in a position to help Fantasy owners on a regular basis, obviously. He'a a backup center who sees irregular minutes and he should not be owned in Fantasy.
News: Sonics reserve C Johan Petro tied his career high with 22 points Wednesday against the Nets. He also chipped in with nine rebounds and one assist in 30 minutes off the bench. It was the second time this season that Petro has scored in double figures with both games coming in his last five outings.
Analysis: Petro continues to see extra playing time with Chris Wilcox out of the lineup, but as soon as Wilcox is healthy, Petro will likely be back to being a fringe option. Continue to track his progress, but despite the big game, he has little to no Fantasy value.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro played for 20 minutes Monday against the 76ers, just the fourth time all season he has managed that feat. Petro scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds against Philadelphia.
Analysis: Petro saw extra PT on Monday as Chris Wilcox was out with a knee injury. If Wilcox misses extensive time, Petro will likely see more PT. But as soon as Wilcox is healthy, Petro's minutes will subside. He is merely a stopgap Fantasy option in larger leagues.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro (back) was back on the floor Sunday night vs. Golden State. He scored six points with four rebounds and an assist off the bench. He also blocked two shots.
Analysis: Petro currently finds himself as a backup and isn't a player that we recommend using outside of the deepest of leagues. He can be a cheap source for blocks and rebounds, but little else.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro (back) was able to play in Sunday's game vs. Golden State.
Analysis: Petro will have a decent game off the bench once in a while, but not enough to keep using him in Fantasy leagues. He is an extremely low-end Fantasy center at this time.
News: Center Johan Petro, who is suffering from a lower back strain, is able to play, but head coach P.J. Carlesimo doesn't want to use him until he has a chance to practice, according to the Seattle Times.
Analysis: Petro will have a decent game off the bench once in a while, but not enough to keep using him in Fantasy leagues. He is an extremely low-end Fantasy center at this time.
News: Sonics center Johan Petro was the only player to score off the bench Tuesday against New York, totaling eight points.
Analysis: Petro should only be used as a low-end center option in deep leagues. He has scored in double figures only twice since February.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro played just 10 minutes and did not score any points Wednesday at Indiana.
Analysis: Petro will have a decent game off the bench once in a while, but not enough to keep using him in Fantasy leagues. He is an extremely low-end Fantasy center at this time.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro had nine points and nine rebounds on Friday against the Bucks.
Analysis: Petro's numbers have certainly gone down since he was taken out of the team's starting lineup earlier this month. He will have a decent game off the bench once in a while, but not enough to keep using him in Fantasy leagues. He is an extremely low-end Fantasy center at this time.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro managed just four points in 15 minutes off the bench Wednesday in a loss to the Miami Heat.
Analysis: Petro has been up and down this season. He's currently on a down swing.
News: Johan Petro has scored in double-figures in five of his last seven games, shooting 72 percent from the field in that span.
Analysis: Petro should now be added in deeper formats for use as a possible stopgap option until the pixy dust wears off. He likely won't keep this up for too long.
News: Johan Petro had 12 points and nine rebounds in 12 minutes Tuesday. He was rewarded with more playing time Wednesday, scoring a career-high 16 points in 30 minutes.
Analysis: Petro isn't yet a recommended Fantasy starter, but these efforts are worth keeping an eye on. Petro is worth stashing in leagues of 12-plus teams as a possible No. 2 center down the line.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro had six points, five rebounds and three assists in a win over the Hornets on Friday.
Analysis: Since Petro was taken out of the starting lineup on Dec. 1, his numbers have begun to reflect that of a role player. In four games, he has scored just 24 points with 13 rebounds and five assists. He is not a recommended Fantasy option at this time.
News: Sonics F/C Nick Collison will start at center Friday night vs. Indiana, according to the Seattle Times. Johan Petro will move to the bench.
Analysis: Petro is going to be inconsistent because he's so young and the position he plays. He's not safe to start in most formats yet, but keeping him as a reserve center in larger leagues is wise.
News: Johan Petro had 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks to rally the Seattle SuperSonics to a 99-87 win over the New Jersey Nets. "I sat him down and told him, 'All you need is one breakthrough game.' Maybe this is it," Sonics coach Bob Hill said of the 20-year-old Petro. "I'm still a kid," Petro said. "I'm just going to go out and have fun (now). I was thinking too much, about a lot of things."
Analysis: Hill benched his 7-foot center because of his ineffectiveness on Saturday in favor of a three-guard lineup -- which failed. He's going to be inconsistent because he's so young and the position he plays. He's not safe to start in most formats yet, but keeping him as a reserve center in larger leagues is wise.
News: Earl Watson said he was not going to tell his agent to pursue a trade right now. "It's too soon right now," Watson said. "I will say this: This has been one of the most fun teams I have been on, just my teammates. These guys make me want to be here. That is the positive I am looking forward to for 82 games, my teammates."
Analysis: Petro simply doesn't do enough to be considered a viable Fantasy starter.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro scored eight points in Wednesday's loss at Orlando. He shot 4-for-9 from the floor in 19 minutes of action.
Analysis: Petro continues to start for the Sonics, but simply doesn't do enough to be considered a viable Fantasy starter.
News: Sonics C Johan Petro (irregular heartbeat) was able to start Sunday vs. the L.A. Lakers. He finished with six points and four rebounds in 24 minutes.
Analysis: Petro is a viable, but less than desireable No. 2 option in leagues of 12 or more teams when healthy.
News: Johan Petro did not play in Friday's loss to the Lakers because of an irregular heartbeat. His heartbeat returned to normal, but the Sonics were being cautious.
Analysis: He should play Sunday assuming everything is OK. When healthy, Petro is a viable, but less than desireable No. 2 option in leagues of 12 or more teams
News: Centers Mouhamed Sene and Johan Petro combined for zero points in 27 minutes against the Blazers in a season-opening loss Wednesday.
Analysis: Consider Petro a viable, but less than desireable No. 2 option in leagues of 12 or more teams. Sene is not a recommended Fantasy option until he can prove otherwise.
News: SuperSonics center Robert Swift, who won the starting job with his defense and hustle in the preseason, will miss the entire regular season after tearing the ACL in his right knee. He was injured early in Wednesday night's exhibition game against Sacramento. He left the arena on crutches and underwent an MRI exam on Thursday. Additional testing by team physicians Friday morning confirmed the injury.
Analysis: Surgery hasn't been scheduled, but Swift is expected to be out for eight to nine months. Johan Petro is now expected to be the starter with rookie Mouhamed Sene as his backup. Consider Petro a viable, but less than desireable No. 2 option in leagues of 12 or more teams. Sene is not a recommended Fantasy option until he can prove otherwise.
News: According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, SuperSonics center Robert Swift may miss the 2006-07 season with a right knee injury. The report cited two unnamed team sources. He hurt his knee in the team's preseason game against Sacramento on Wednesday.
Analysis: This comes after the Sonics said they'd be cautious with their starters. Swift wasn't going to be a particularly attractive Fantasy option, but many teams were counting on him to be their No. 2 guy. You'll have to find another option. The team hasn't announced anything yet, but Danny Fortson is next on their depth chart at the center position. We find it unlikely that they'll consider him their main man at center. The team may be forced to go with a rotation at the position much like they did last year. Johan Petro, Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison should all get a share, but none of them will dazzle you.
News: The SuperSonics exercised their fourth-year option on center Robert Swift on Friday and their three-year option on center Johan Petro.
Analysis: That means both are under contract through the 2007-08 season, after which each has a player option to remain with Seattle. Petro, drafted in the first round in 2005, fell under the new CBA. He could also have been a free agent next season if Seattle didn't exercise its option now. Petro's value is limited to being a cheap source for rebounds in deep Rotisserie leagues.
News: The SuperSonics exercised their fourth-year option on center Robert Swift on Friday and their three-year option on center Johan Petro. That means both are under contract through the 2007-08 season, after which each has a player option to remain with Seattle. Swift, a first-round pick in 2004 whose contract is governed by the league's previous collective bargaining agreement, could have become a free agent next season had the Sonics not picked up his option by Oct. 31. Petro, drafted in the first round in 2005, fell under the new CBA. He could also have been a free agent next season if Seattle didn't exercise its option now. Last season, Swift appeared in 47 games and averaged 6.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Petro played in 68 games and averaged 5.2 points, 4.4 rebounds.
Analysis: Neither player are trendy Fantasy picks, but Swift does have more value. Swift could finally move into a prominent role this season as the Sonics hoped he would when they drafted him in 2004. Consider Swift nothing more than a late-round pick on Draft Day in deep leagues at this point. Petro should not be drafted.
News: The Los Angeles Lakers rallied for a 104-101 preseason victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Thursday night. Nick Collison scored 20 points for the Sonics, while Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis each added 15. Los Angeles, which trailed by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, used a 7-0 run to take a 102-95 lead with one minute to play.
Analysis: Collison won't be seeing those types of numbers on a regular basis during the season, but he still warrants a selection in deeper Rotisserie formats in the late rounds. At least we know he can score 20 points when given a chance. As for Allen and Lewis, they are the obvious gems of the bunch and both warrant selections in the early rounds. We like Chris Wilcox as a sleeper in Rotisserie formats for his rebounding and blocks.
News: Johan Petro scored 13 points while also adding seven rebounds on Sunday at the L.A. Lakers.
Analysis: Petro should continue to start in place of the injured Robert Swift and he's emerged as a decent source for rebounds in larger leagues.
News: Johan Petro grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds against Orlando on Friday.
Analysis: Petro should continue to start in place of the injured Robert Swift but has minimal Fantasy value. Monitor the situation, incase he emerges as a legit Fantasy option.
News: Johan Petro started and scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting on Wednesday in Atlanta.
Analysis: He should continue to start in place of the injured Robert Swift but has minimal Fantasy value. Monitor the situation, incase he emerges as a legit Fantasy option.
News: In Friday's 100-77 loss at Houston, Seattle coach Bob Hill let 7-foot rookie center Johan Petro and second-year center Robert Swift, who is 7-1, play the last five minutes together. Hill said the results were "just OK." Swift and Petro had some success early in the game guarding Yao Ming but eventually couldn't keep up. They combined for two points.
Analysis: Petro has minimal Fantasy value.
News: According to the Seattle Times, Sonics coach Bob Hill is considering replacing Johan Petro with Robert Swift as the starting center.
Analysis: Hill said Swift has moved pass Petro in terms of development and couldn't understand why the team was considering sending Swift to the development league earlier this month. "I'm not so sure Robert Swift doesn't deserve to start," Hill said. Petro has minimal Fantasy value either way.
News: According to the Seattle Times, Johan Petro left Wednesday's game in the fourth quarter with a loose tooth and was unable to return. He is considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Petro has minimal Fantasy value even when 100 percent.
News: Johan Petro scored four points with eight rebounds on Sunday afternoon in New York.
Analysis: Bob Hill will continue to give him minutes but he isn't worth owning in Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: According to the Seattle Times, Sonics coach Bob Hill is making some serious changes to the center position. Vitaly Potapenko will likely move to the inactive list, and the spot will belong almost solely to youngsters Johan Petro and Robert Swift. "We're going to have rotations for positions 1 through 4 and keep the center position kind of for those guys and see how the minutes go because they need to be on the floor," Hill said. "We need their length. We need to know what shots they can block and adjust. And they can run. ... We'll see it's going to be fun with them. They're going to be scared. They're going to make mistakes and it's OK. And they're going to get better."
Analysis: Petro and Swift are both intriguing pickups in very deep leagues if you need help at the center position. Neither should make an immediate impact for Fantasy purposes, but monitor the situation. They are both talented with nice upside.
News: According to the Tacoma News Tribune, Seattle SuperSonics coach Bob Weiss met with centers Johan Petro and Robert Swift on Friday and told them that as long as the team’s other post players are healthy, Weiss is going to alternate the two young players on and off the inactive list.
Analysis: Weiss placed Petro on the inactive list for the game against Cleveland and activated Swift, the only player on the team not to play this season. Neither player has any Fantasy value.
News: According to the Seattle Times, Nick Collison will become the starting center for the Sonics.
Analysis: According to the report, Collison will move to center and Johan Petro will move to the bench. Reggie Evans will move to power forward. Collison's value will increase when he plays enough games at the position to qualify as a Fantasy center. Petro should not be owned in any leagues.
News: Sonics center Johan Petro was hospitalized with a stomach virus which caused him to miss Sunday's game vs. Sacramento.
Analysis: The rookie is suffering from gastroenteritis, inflammation of the mucous membrane in the stomach. He first felt sick after Saturday's practice and admitted himself into the hospital on Sunday morning, according to Sonics coach Bob Weiss. After having fluids pumped into his system, Petro was discharged and rested at home. He is questionable for Nov. 22 vs. Utah.
News: Coach Bob Weiss told the Seattle Times that he is nearly certain rookie Johan Petro, who had a strong preseason, will start at center with Vitaly Potapenko nursing a left hamstring injury.
Analysis: Despite Petro's starting status, he should have very minimal Fantasy appeal early on.
News: The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports Johan Petro has had a strong preseason and coach Bob Weiss might start the rookie at center while Vitaly Potapenko (hamstring) is out.
Analysis: Neither Petro or Potapenko are useful in most Fantasy leagues, but the rookie might be a decent pickup in larger keeper leagues if he can secure the starting job.
News: The SuperSonics signed Petro, the 25th pick overall in the NBA draft, to a contract on Monday.
Analysis: Petro averaged 6.1 ppg in 28 games with Pau Orthez in the French Pro A league. He also averaged 5.1 ppg in 11 games in the Euroleague. He will learn from the bench and should have little or no Fantasy value in his initial season.
