Hornets ink Marvin Williams to two-year deal

(7/12/2014) Free agent forward Marvin Williams has agreed to a two-year, $14 million contract with the Hornets, according to ESPN on Saturday. Williams averaged 9.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 66 games for the Jazz.

Williams finishes the season averaging 9.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 66 appearances. He is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Williams will have missed three straight games because of a knee injury. He has just one more chance to return to the hardwood, on Wednesday against the Timberwolves in Minnesota.

The fact that Williams did not travel with the team means the injury is a bit more serious than just a day-to-day issue. He has just two more chances to get back on the floor, beginning Tuesday against the Clippers.

He tried to play through the injury Tuesday, but was forced to leave after just eight minutes. He is officially listed as doubtful for Fridays' game against the Trail Blazers, according to the Deseret News

(4/9/2014) Jazz forward Marvin Williams tried to play through a bruised left knee Tuesday against the Mavericks, but was forced to leave after aggravating the injury.

Williams played just eight ineffective minutes, as he was held scoreless while missing both of his field-goal attempts. He added nothing else to the box score before leaving, and his status moving forward is not yet known.

Williams will likely be considered day to day moving forward, with the team's next game set for Friday against Portland.

Williams scored eight points on 3 of 7 from the floor, including 1 of 3 from downtown, and 1 of 1 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with four rebounds, two assists and one block while logging 26 minutes of game action. He is averaging 9.3 points and 3.8 rebounds over his last five appearances.

Williams injured his back wrestling Samuel Dalembert for a rebound earlier in the week. He is averaging 9.6 points and 5.2 rebounds over 54 games this season.

(3/14/2014) Jazz forward Marvin Williams and guard John Lucas will both miss Friday's contest against the Clippers, according to Deseret News.

Williams missed practice Thursday after playing just 22 minutes on Wednesday because of a lower back strain. Lucas is nursing a sprained right ankle, which has caused him now to miss four consecutive games.

Utah will return to the floor Sunday in San Antonio.

(3/13/2014) Jazz forward Marvin Williams was unable to practice Thursday according to the Salt Lake Tribune, as a result of a lower back strain. He is set to undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury, so his status moving forward is currently not known.

Williams played just 22 minutes in the team's previous game Wednesday, so it could have been bothering him then.

It was Williams' best scoring performance since topping 20 in three straight games early in February, and his 80 percent success rate from the field was his best mark of the season. He also chipped in seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in 23 minutes. Williams has averaged 10.3 points and 5.4 rebounds over 45 games played.

(2/12/2014) Jazz forward Marvin Williams posted his first double-double of February Wednesday, scoring 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting while grabbing a season-high 14 rebounds in his team's 105-100 win over the 76ers.

Williams put up just his third double-double of the season in the win, Utah's third straight. He has averagd 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds over 41 games played.

(2/9/2014) Jazz forward Marvin Williams continued his recent success from behind the arc on Saturday, as he knocked down five treys for the second straight game in his team's 94-89 victory over the Heat.

Williams knocked down two triples in the first and fourth quarters, respectively. He scored a team-high 23 points on 9 of 15 from the floor, including 5 of 8 from downtown, and 0 of 2 from the charity stripe. He also chipped in with three rebounds, one assist and one block while logging 28 minutes of game action.

Williams has knocked down 10 of his last 16 attempts from 3-point land over his past two games. He has averaged 19.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists over his last five games.

It was Williams' first time over 20 points this season, and he also kicked in eight rebounds and two steals in in 40 minutes in the loss. He has averaged 9.6 points and 5.4 rebounds over 37 games played.

(2/2/2014) Jazz forward Marvin Williams was back in the lineup Saturday against the Clippers, after missing the team's previous game with Achilles soreness.

Williams played 36 minutes and filled up the box score well, but struggled with his shooting overall. He scored nine points in just 3 of 11 from the field, missing all five of his three-point attempts. Fortunately, he made up for the cold shooting with 10 rebounds and five assists in a 102-87 loss.

Williams continues to start for the Jazz, but has been in a bit of a slump recently. He is averaging just 9.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game over the last five, while shooting 35.3 percent from the field.

(1/13/2014) Jazz forward Marvin Williams, who broke his nose back in November, told the Standard-Examiner that he plans to ditch his protective mask in the coming days. Williams played a portion of the second half of Friday's loss to the Cavaliers without the mask. He was held to three points and four rebounds in that game

"I don't know," he said. "I'm gonna go through a little trial period the next 48 hours. I might retire it, I'm not sure yet."

In 28 games, Williams has averaged 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds on 43.9 percent shooting in 27.1 minutes this season.

(12/24/2013) Jazz forward Marvin Williams, who suffered a broken nose on Nov. 14, has been to stop wearing his clear protective mask but has changed his plans. Williams said he's comfortable with the mask and will wear it for the remainder of the season, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

"It's almost a certain level of comfort I have with it now," Williams said. "That was my first time breaking my nose and I don't want to have it happen again. … It will take some time to get used to not wearing. I'll probably take that time in the summertime."
