Knicks' Jackson confident Calderon will recover from Achilles issue

(4/21/2015) Although an Achilles injury caused his season to end prematurely, Knicks president Phil Jackson said he is confident guard Jose Calderon will be able to recover from the issue, reports ESPNNewYork.com.

Calderon was bothered by an Achilles injury for most of the season and played his last game Feb. 25.

(4/1/2015) Knicks guard Jose Calderon (Achilles) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Nets while forward Travis Wear (back) is considered doubtful, according to the team's injury report.

Calderon has missed the last 18 games for New York with the injury and the team is still considering shutting him down for the year. Wear has missed the last four games with the injury and is averaging 3.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

Calderon, who suffered the Achilles' injury at the end of February, said he doesn't like his chances of returning to the floor this season, but wouldn't rule it out. He is averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 assists per game.

(3/23/2015) Knicks guard Jose Calderon was administered a procedure for his injured Achilles, the team announced on Monday

Calderon underwent a platelet-rich plasma treatment for the Achilles injury he was diagnosed with in early March. The treatment will sideline Calderon an additional 10 to 14 days before he's re-evaluated by the Knicks' training staff. 

Calderon has missed the previous 10 games and has been ruled out for Monday's contest against the Grizzlies. The Knicks are 14-point underdogs against Memphis.

Early (sprained left ankle) and Hardaway (wrist) will miss their fifth consecutive game due to their injuries. Calderon is still recovering from an Achilles strain that was diagnosed in early March. Wear was pulled from Sunday's game due to a sore back.

(3/17/2015) Knicks guard Jose Calderon is progressing slowly in his recovery from an Achilles injury and will miss his 11th straight game Tuesday against the Spurs, but he is still trying to return this season.

“(The injury) is taking a little longer than we expected but we’ll see how it goes with the doctors,’’ Calderon said, per the New York Post. “I want to come back for my team and teammates and respect for them and the organization. If there’s a risk, no, but we’re trying to get it 100 percent.’’

A recent MRI revealed Calderon is dealing with a left Achilles strain. In 42 games, Calderon is averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 assists. Guard Shane Larkin is expected to see his minutes increase with Calderon sidelined.

Calderon was originally listed as doubtful with an Achilles injury. 

Knicks coach Derek Fisher told the media that Calderon would get an MRI on the Achilles on Saturday. Depending on the results of the test, the team may sign a replacement player for its open roster spot. 

The Knicks are 13.5-point underdogs on the road, Friday.

Calderon said he tweaked his Achilles during Wednesday's game, but didn't say it was serious. He added that he has no plans to end his season prematurely.

"I want to be with my team," Calderon said. "[It's] why after yesterday when it happened I wanted to keep playing... I want to be with my team until the end of the season."

The announcement came late in the fourth quarter with the Knicks down big. Calderon scored five points on 1 of 7 shooting from the field in 36 minutes, kicking in seven assists, two rebounds and one steal. The Knicks are off Thursday but have a back-to-back scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Calderon hasn't missed many shots in his last few games, but Tuesday's performance represented the first time he topped 50 percent shooting while taking at least 10 shots since Dec. 20. He also chipped in two assists and two rebounds in 31 minutes in the loss. The Knicks will square off with the Nets Friday.

Calderon tried to put weight on his leg as he was helped to the locker room, but was unable to do so. Calderon will not return after suffering a contusion on his knee, the team announced.

He leaves the game with four points, seven assists and four rebounds for New York.

(1/12/2015) The Knicks are actively trying to trade guard Jose Calderon and center Andrea Bargnani, league sources told ESPN. However, trying to deal forward Amar'e Stoudemire is not part of the team's current plans.

The Knicks recently traded J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert to Cleveland and waived Samuel Dalembert as part of a roster shakeup following a 5-35 start. CBSSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger wrote last week Calderon could be the next Knicks' player on the move.

Sources told ESPN that Bargnani is a candidate to be waived in February, if New York can't trade the former No. 1 overall pick, who has an expiring contract. Calderon has two years and $15.1 million left on his contract after this season.

However, with Calderon, 33, due more than $15 million over the next two seasons, teams could be looking elsewhere for point guard help.

Despite playing for the last place Knicks, Calderon’s agent informed USA Today Calderon will not push for a trade. In 24 games, Calderon is averaging 9.4 points and 4.3 assists.
